Chapter 10
Being woken up by his previously set alarm, Donnie was quick to silence it so he wouldn't wake his parents. Wasting no time, he quickly and quietly got out of bed, getting dressed and making sure he had everything he would need, including the phone he had taken from the Hydra agent the day before.
Donnie silently made his way downstairs and into the kitchen, making sure that no one happened to still be up, even though it was 3:30am. As a last minute decision, Donnie decided to write a note for his parents, briefly telling them that he was completely fine and that they shouldn't worry about him. After placing the note somewhere they would easily find it, Donnie grabbed the car keys and headed out the door, locking it behind him.
Once he was seated in the driver seat of the car, Donnie put the key in the ignition and started it, wincing as the car came to life, not wanting his parents to hear it. Not waiting around to find out if the noise woke anyone up, Donnie backed out of his driveway and headed down the street, deciding to make a stop at a certain house before leaving to where he wanted to go.
Once at the house, Donnie put together a small note, got out of the car, and carefully walked over to a certain window. Once at the window, Donnie could see the peacefully sleeping girl through the thin curtains and opened blinds. He stared through the window for a few seconds before remembering his first priority, quietly opening the unlocked window enough to slip the note under it and place it on the small desk placed just in front of the window. After gently placing the note on the desk, Donnie quietly closed the window again before going back to his car and driving off.
As Hannah awoke, she smiled to herself, despite it being a school day. She got up and decided to take a shower before getting dressed for the day.
After her shower and morning routine, Hannah headed downstairs for some breakfast. "Good morning, Sweetie." Her dad greeted her with a warm smile as he glanced at her from the kitchen table where he was working on his computer. "Morning, Dad." Hannah greeted back with a bright smile. Before Hannah could greet her mother, an abrupt knocking sounded from the front door. "Who could that be?" Hannah's mom wondered aloud. "I don't know, but I should head out. I want to get to school a little early." Hannah said as she walked back upstairs, leaving her parents to deal with whoever was at their door.
Once in her room, Hannah walked over to her desk where her homework was neatly placed. Before she could grab her homework; however, she noticed a smaller piece of paper lying right next to it. Immediatly recognizing the handwriting, she picked up the paper and read what was written on it. As she read the note, she heard the faint sounds of paniced voices from downstairs. Realizing who the voices belonged to, Hannah decided to show them the note too.
"I don't know where he would go off to. But when we woke up this morning, he wasn't in his room or anything and the car was gone. All we found was a note saying that he was fine and not to worry." Mr. Jensen said as Hannah walked down the stairs. The four adults turned to the girl as she entered the room. "He left me one too." Hannah said, knowing who they were talking about as she held the note out to them. Mrs. Jensen gently took the note from the girl as she began to read it.
Hannah,
I know this is so sudden, but I'm sorry for leaving like this. I just have some things I need to do, whether that be at the location from the phone or not. I know I'm probably overreacting, but I just want to show these guys why they should just leave me alone. That I'm not someone they can keep following around all the time. I don't know when or if I'll even be back, but I don't want you worrying about me or trying to come after me. I can take care of myself, and this is just something I need to do to get my point across to them.
- Donnie
After reading the note aloud, the four adults looked slightly confused. "Location?" Mr. Jensen questioned. "Forget about the location for a second. What does he mean by the phone?" Mr. Baker asked curiously. Hannah sighed to herself, knowing she needed to inform them of what happened yesterday. "You guys remember when Donnie and I were out with friends yesterday?" Hannah asked, getting their attention. "Yeah. Why?" Mrs. Baker asked. "Well, when we were leaving Rosie's Diner after lunch, these two guys in black suits confronted Donnie, but he wanted us to go ahead while he hung back for a few minutes. When he caught up to us again and was asked what the two guys wanted, he said how they were Hydra agents following him, and they tried to get him to hear them out, so Donnie froze one and the other ran away. Donnie found a phone on the agent he had frozen, with some message mentioning something about Maribel Del Mar." Hannah explained. "That's not a location, that's a ship. It's currently stationed at the Port of Casablanca in Morocco." Mr. Baker stated in realization. "Why would Donnie need to go there?" Hannah asked confused. "That doesn't matter. What does matter is finding him before Hydra gets ahold of him." Mrs. Jensen said, the others besides Hannah nodding in agreement. "Come on. You'll have to miss school if you want to come along. Because I know with how close you two are, you are not just going to go to school during all this." Mr. Baker said, not even arguing with his daughter. Hannah nodded and the group of five left the house and headed towards the Baker's car, only to be stopped by Hannah's friends asking what the rush was and where her parents, Donnie's parents, and herself were going.
