[5]: Team Fun

"The time to relax is when you don't have time for it."

-Sydney J. Harris

I keep my promise like I intended to and even put in extra effort to make Morgan feel a tiny bit special. Okay, we both know that's a big fat lie. After three hours of pretending I'm okay with my brother being here and not in any way creeped out by the sudden change in character, I locked myself in my room for the night. It didn't take long before I found myself texting Morgan and pleading with her to let me stay over the rest of the weekend.

Anywhere was better than being at home with Liam because everywhere else wouldn't have him. My current plan is to simply avoid him until he scurries off back to college. At the very least he has to be gone by Monday so all I have to do is duck him until then.

"That dirty snake. Sean doesn't seriously think he's a 'changed man' does he?" Morgan asks for close the hundredth time. This has become her automatic reply to anything pertaining to Liam and I have to admit, it's pretty accurate.

Sitting in her mother's bathroom with me on a stool, Morgan shuffles around as she fixes my hair. Evidently, I don't need the stress right now that it could bring. It's half-past four leaving her fifteen minutes to wrap this up so we can make it to the party on time and for once I'm looking forward to one of these social gatherings.

"I'm pretty sure he does. And here's the thing, it's literally going against all the laws of physics the past four years have created." Just the thought of trying to make sense of the situation make my head hurt all over again.

"Then let's just go party and forget there's even a Liam," Morgan says with a cheery smile. "And then I'll hunt him down for ya myself."

Morgan hates Liam, more than I ever could. He's my brother after all and despite his harsh words, I know I'd come running the moment shit hits his fan. Morgan, on the other hand, hates him because of her twin brother Prestley. Liam bullied him enough before going off to college for Prestley to refuse to attend his freshman year. Because of that, I can't fault her for her feelings and often share in them myself.

As if on cue Prestley pokes his head into the bathroom. "Dad texted and said he would be in Georgia another night and mom just left for the evening." He says catching his sister's gaze in the mirror.

"Has it ever occurred to anyone that the other woman's name is Georgia?" I ask, more as a rhetorical question than a legitimate one.

Morgan puckers her lips as a thoughtful expression washes over her face while Prestley shudders.

"That's a sight I really wish I hadn't pictured." He grumbles with a disgusted grimace on his partially stubbled face. "I'm starting the truck, be down in five or you'll have to find a new ride." He states walking off.

"Since when did Prestley get facial hair?" I ask with a chuckle and a hint of genuine curiosity.

Morgan shrugs, setting down the curler. "Somewhere between him entering high school and choir being where the cool kids hang out." She replies with an eye roll as she studies my appearance in the mirror. "All done!" She claps happily.

I stand and reach upward, stretching the stiffness from my body. "Will he really leave us?" As the words leave my mouth a couple honks sound from the driveway.

"He is my twin after all." Morgan winks.

I'm not one for parties, not even a little. But I'm KP and unfortunately, that means I have to make an appearance at least once a week. It's completely inconvenient to my own personal desires but when I think of it as a job I don't mind as much for some reason. I feel that since my brother was such a bully that I at least owe the students some sort of kindness.

Tonight is different, or at least became different as soon as Liam showed up. There are two rules when it comes to parties, have fun and don't tell anyone you're not friends with. It took a year to get the rules drilled into everyone but they're thankful for them now. Tonight I'm finally going to follow rule one and have a good time, for real.

"Who's the sober driver?" Prestley asks, pulling his truck off to the side of the dirt road so he won't get blocked in and puts his truck in park.

There are a few inches of snow and we have no intention of sleeping in the truck tonight with more on the way. Parking a bit away is never a problem for our little trio.

The lack of response makes Prestley sigh. "Fine, I'll take this one."

Morgan squeals in delight and throws herself over the center console at her brother. "Best brother ever." She declares.

All Prestley does is grunt in agreement and exit the truck.

The party is quite literally out in the middle of nowhere, high up in the hills, and down a beat-up hunting road only used during big game season. I imagined there would be fewer people willing to climb up a mountain for a party but as we walk down the road we pass more and more vehicles.

The music is a gentle hum drifting through the evergreen trees, loud enough to be enjoyable yet soft enough to hear your neighbors conversation. The glow of a bonfire lights up half of the party while the headlights of a few trucks illuminated where some are playing beer pong.

"Two rounds of beer pong and then cozy up next to the fire?" Morgan asks, a sparkle in her eye. More specifically, the sparkle in her eye she gets when I'm doing something she enjoys.

"Okay partner, but I'll warn you, I'm pretty terrible at this game." I laugh, looping my arm through hers and making our way towards what looks to be a rather pleasant night.
