( WE NEED TO
TALK ABOUT KEVIN )

100 MILE WILDERNESS, MAINE
ONE YEAR LATER

WOODS
[ ☾]

A young Man and Woman are asleep in a tent. A bright light appears outside. The woman sits up in alarm and shakes the Man. "Will, get up. Something just happened." She says. The light outside disappears. Footsteps approach the tent and a figure walks past. "Go. Go do something."

"W-what are we supposed to..." Will grabs a flashlight and goes outside the tent. "Hello? Hello?" He stands for a moment pointing his flashlight into the darkness. "It was a deer." He turns back to the tent door. "I don't know. It was like – it was a deer or something –" He hears a noise, turns around again and gasps. "Oh!"

Dean, bloodstained and dirty and holding an axe-like weapon, is standing in front of him. "Where am I?" He asks.

"What?" Asks Will. The Woman comes out of the tent. Dean cocks a gun and points it at her and Will. "W– hey, hey."

       "Where's the road?" Dean asks.

Will points. "Twelve miles, that way." He says.

Keeping his gun pointed at the couple, Dean picks up a backpack from the ground and runs off.

CLAYTON, LOUISIANA
FOUR DAYS LATER

COUNTRY ROAD
[ ☼ ]

Styx's Man in the Wilderness plays. An orange pick-up comes to a stop. Dean gets out and the driver points directions. Dean walks down the road and holds his left arm while walking.

Later, a sign on a stone pillar marking someone's land reads "Lafitte". Dean reads the sign and walks onto the land. Dean, carrying a shovel and holding his left arm, paces slowly and deliberately from a windmill.

"This better be you, you son of a bitch." Dean starts to dig, grunting as if in pain.

The scene then cuts to him throwing the shovel down and hoisting himself up to sit on the edge of the grave he has dug. He holds his left arm.

"All right." Dean stands up and the camera pans to uncovered bones in the grave. "Hold on, you bastard." He rolls up his left sleeve. His forearm is glowing red and pulsing. "Hold on!" Dean cuts his left arm with a large knife. "Anima corpori..." He holds his arm out over the grave and red glowing liquid drips from his arm onto the bones. "Fuerit corpus... totem resurgent."

Dean groans in pain as light plays over the bones. As the light vanishes, he drops to the ground.

"Wow." Dean rolls down his sleeve, still gasping in pain. A Man appears behind him. "Wow. That was fast."

"No thanks to you. The hell took you so long?" The Man says.

Dean gets to his feet, holding his arm. "You're welcome." He says as the Man cracks his neck. "Everything working?"

"Good enough." The Man opens his mouth wide and vampire teeth descend, then retract as he closes his mouth. "So... what now?"

"Like we talked about, I guess."

The Man nods. "Then this is goodbye." He says.

"Keep your nose clean, Benny. You hear me?" Dean says as Benny walks towards Dean, holding out his hand. They shake.

"We made it, brother. I can't believe it." Benny laughs and pulls Dean into a hug.

       "You and me both."

SUPERNATURAL

KERMIT, TEXAS

HOUSE
[ ☾]

Sam is packing a bag in a dark bedroom. He pats a dog that is lying on the bed. A woman in the bed opens her eyes and watches Sam leave. Sam pauses briefly in the doorway, then walks on. We hear the front door close.

The Impala pulls out of the driveway. Someone watches from the shadows across the street.

RUFUS' CABIN
[ ☼ ]

The Impala pulls up outside the cabin and Sam gets out. He opens the front door and takes a few steps inside. Dean pushes Sam to the ground and douses him with holy water.

"What the –? I'm not a demon." Sam says as Dean pours Borax over him. "Or a Leviathan. What –"

Dean grabs Sam's arm and cuts it with a knife. Sam gasps in pain. "Or a shifter. Good." Dean stands up. "My turn. Come on. Let's go." He holds out the bottles to Sam.

"I don't need to. I know it's you." Sam says.

"Damn it, Sammy!" Dean splashes the holy water and Borax over himself and holds out a knife to Sam, who has stood up. "Come on!"

"No! Dean, can I just say hello?" Sam asks.

Dean rolls up his sleeve and cuts his own arm. "All right." He smiles as he binds his arm. "Well... let's do this."

"I don't know whether to give you a hug or take a shower." Sam jokes.

Dean laughs. "Come here." He holds out his arms and they hug.

"Dude. You're... freakin' alive." Sam walks a few steps away with his hands in his hair. "I mean, what the hell happened?"

"Well, I guess standing too close to exploding Dick sends your ass straight to Purgatory."

"You were in Purgatory? For the whole year?" Sam asks.

"Yeah, time flies when you're running for your life."

"Well, how'd you get out?" Asks Sam.

"I guess whoever built that box didn't want me in there any more than I did." Dean says.

       "What does that mean?"

       "I'm here, okay?" Dean asks.

"What about Cas? Was he there?"

Dean walks a few steps away and speaks with his back to Sam. "Yeah, Cas didn't make it." He says.

       "What exactly does that mean?"

"Something happened to him down there. Things got pretty hairy towards the end, and he... just let go." Says Dean.

"So Cas is dead? You saw him die?" Sam asks.

       "I saw enough."

"So, then what, you're not sure?" Sam asks.

Dean turns back to Sam. "I said I saw enough, Sam." He says sternly.

       "Right. Dean, I'm sorry."

"Me too. So you – I can't believe you're actually here." Dean takes two beers out of the refrigerator. "You know that half your numbers are out of service? Felt like I was leaving messages in the wind." He sits down at the table and sets a beer down for Sam.

Sam remains standing. "Yeah, I-I-I didn't get your messages. Or anyone else's." He says.

       "How come?"

"Probably because I ditched the phones." Sam says.

       "Because...?" Asks Dean.

"I guess, um... I guess something happened to me this year, too." Sam shrugs. "I don't hunt anymore." He smiles tentatively.

"Yeah. And Sasha Grey's gone legit." Dean jokes and Sam exhales. "What?"

"Nothing. Um, she did a Soderbergh movie." Sam says.

        "What?" Dean asks.

        "She did a Soderbergh –"

"No. You, Sam. You quit?" Dean asks.

"Yeah. Yeah, I – you were gone...Dean. Cas was gone, Bobby was dead. Elena left. I mean, Crowley even shipped off Kevin and Meg to parts unknown."

"What do you mean Elena just...left?" Dean asks.

"I mean it just as I said it." Sam says. "I have no idea where she is."

"So you just turned tail on the family business." Dean says.

"Nothing says "family" quite like the whole family being dead."

"I wasn't dead." Dean stands up and walks around Sam. "In fact, I was knee-deep in God's armpit killing monsters, which, I thought, is what we actually do."

"Yes, Dean. And far as I knew, what we do is the thing that got every single member of my family killed. I had no one – no one. And for the first time in my life, I was completely alone." Sam says. "And, honestly, I-I didn't exactly have a roadmap. So, yeah, I-I fixed up the Impala, and I just... drove."

"After you looked for me." Dean says and Sam says nothing. "Did you look for me, Sam?" Sam looks away. "Good. That's good. Now, we – we... always told each other not to look for each other. That's smart. Good for you. Of course, we always ignored that because of our deep, abiding love for each another, but not this time, right, Sammy?"

"Look, I'm still the same guy, Dean."

"Well, bully for you. I'm not." Dean walks away and we hear the door close.

       "Welcome back." Sam says.

Dean exits the cabin and pulls out his cellphone to dial a number. "Yes, I have a request to track down a phone I lost." He says.

APARTMENT
[ ☼ ]

Dean steps onto a porch and makes sure that no one was looking. He begins to pick the lock. After successfully picking the lock, Dean steps inside.

There wasn't that much around, a couple of sofas and a small tv were in the living room, but it looks as if it hasn't been sat on.

Dean makes his way over to what appears to be a bedroom. There was a bed, but it was unmade and was kept that way for a while. He finds a picture frame of he and Elena smiling together. He smiles and puts it down.

He then moved to a huge wall with pins and newspaper clippings covering it. It mainly consisted of all things Purgatory. Red strings of yarn were wrapped around pins, one to a sighting of a man in the woods found by two campers. The string leading up to that one was the step getting out of Purgatory.

"Son of a bitch." Dean says in astonishment. "She figured it out." He smiles and puts his hands on his hips. Suddenly, something was being pressured on the back of his head.

"Turn around slowly with your hands up." Her voice says.

Dean holds his hands up and turns around slowly, the gun on his forehead now. "Elena." He says breathlessly.

Elena looks surprised as she puts the gun down, but doesn't say anything. They stand there for a minute, neither of them actually saying anything.

"I'm guessing you're not a demon." Dean says as Elena says nothing. "I saw the devil's trap over the door."

Elena and Dean stand feet apart. She just stares with a blank look on her face that had Dean on edge.

"And I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you're not a shifter." He says, but Elena is still silent. "You look different."

Elena had completely changed her appearance since the last time Dean saw her. She had more blonde highlights in her hair than usual and she wore all black.

        "Say something. Please." Dean pleads.

Elena slowly steps towards him with her eyes closed and reaches her hand out to touch Dean's face. When it makes contact with his face, she sucks in a deep breath.

"You're real." She whispers while caressing his face.

"Of course I'm real." Dean says. "Elena, open your eyes and look at me."

Elena steps back with her eyes closed and shakes her head. "If I open my eyes you'll just disappear because all of this would've been a dream." She says.

        "Open your eyes, Lena."

Elena exhales briefly before opening her eyes, seeing Dean to be real. She rushes over to him and kisses him hard and deep before pulling away to touch foreheads.

"I love you too." Dean breathes out. He had been waiting to say those four words ever since he got trapped in
Elena looks into Dean's eyes, then immediately pulls him in slowly for a kiss. Slowly but surely, they both strip each other of their clothing whilst never letting their lips apart.

They make their way to Elena's bed, Dean positioning himself on top of her. He loved the way she looked underneath him; it was something he wanted to see for often.

Dean breaks the kiss, tracing his pointer finger down Elena's bottom lip and down to her waist where he caresses gently. He moves to kiss Elena again as she rolls on top of him.

Elena loved the way Dean's hands felt on her body, the hot trail of fire he left behind still lingering. She wanted more. And they continued to explore each other throughout the night.

Dean lays naked in bed with Elena on top of him, also naked. Dean strokes Elena's hair. "I got a question." He says.

        "What?"

"Who has better sex, me or Sam?" He asks.

Elena lifts her head to look at him. "I'm not answering that." She says.

"Oh come on!" Dean yells. "Was I good at least?"

        "You were...amazing." Elena says.

        "So were you."

Elena nuzzles her head into Dean's chest and sighs. "So what now?" She asks.

"I don't know." Dean says. "But I've been meaning to ask, how were you able to figure out how to get me out so fast?"

"I read." Elena says. "You know, it does wonders."

"Ha ha ha." Dean says lamely.

"You know what really irks me? I asked Sam to help me look for you in Purgatory. He told me that there was no way." Elena says.

Dean looks at Elena. "You asked Sam to help you, and he didn't?" He asks.

"Yeah." Elena says. "Next time I see him, he's got a whole other thing comin'."

"Yeah..." Dean says slowly as he thinks about what Elena had just told him. Why hadn't Sam looked for him?

Elena gets up slowly and makes her way to the bathroom. "I'm gonna take a shower." She says.

        "Yeah, okay." Dean says.

"I want you to join me, Dean." Elena says and Dean nods, understanding what she meant. He quickly gets up and follows Elena into the bathroom.

After their steamy shower, Dean dresses and tries to sneak away while Elena did the same. "Where do you think you're going?" Elena asks.

       "Out."

Elena crosses her arms. "Dean..." She starts as Dean sighs.

"I'm going to Rufus's Cabin." He says.

"And why do you need to go there?" Elena asks as Dean says nothing. "Dean, what aren't you telling me?"

        "Sam's there."

Elena's mouth is in an "o", but she quickly closes it and grabs Dean's car keys. "Let's go." She says.

       "Uh, no." Says Dean.

       "And why not?"

"A few minutes ago you said, and I quote, 'Next time I see him, he's got a whole other thing comin'.'" Dean says.

"I'll behave." Elena says and leaves to go towards the door. "Are you coming?"

Dean sighs. "I better not regret this." He says.
