Erwin's POVI sat on the desk in Hanji's room as she slept on the bed when a loud crash from the door woke her up and made me turn abruptly towards it. Mike rushed in the room, out of breath and bloody. Well, his shirt was anyway. I knew automatically what had happened, another death. Hanji looked over to me and I looked back at her with sad eyes.
"Who?" I asked Mike.
"Jean," He said as his head hung low as he spoke.
Immediately, I rushed out of the room with one destination in mind. I made my way down the corridors and saw a small group consisting of Eren, Levi, and Mike around Jean's room.
"Jaeger!" I said, grabbing him by the shoulders and looking him intensely in the eye. He looked as if he had been crying. "Did you kill Kirstein??"
"O-Of course not! We may have f-fought a lot, but he was my comrade! Don't you dare think I would kill my friend you asshole!" Eren screeched back at me.
Seeing that he was genuine, I let go of his shoulders and patted his back. "I know, I know. I just had to make sure."
"I walked in and found him sobbing over the body. He wouldn't tell me what happened." Mike spoke up from behind me.
"What's going on in here?" I heard Levi's voice call from behind me.
"Kirstein is dead. We found Eren over the body, crying" Mike chimed in again from behind me.
"Eren," Levi said, crossing over to him and staring up at him. "Tell me what happened please."
"I was going to your r-room, and I heard a voice and I knew it was Jean's, so I went in here and saw a dark figure with a mask, standing over him with a bloody knife. I tackled him... and I scared him out that window, and then stayed with Jean until he.... until he..." Eren's voice started to crack towards the end, but he manages to finish without crying.
"Thank you, Eren." Levi pressed a kiss to his lips and then turned to me, preparing to speak, but Eren stopped him.
"Wait, one more thing... the killer is a male. I could tell from his fighting." Eren spoke softly as the words left his mouth, then he turned around and left, hanging his head low. Levi stared at him as he walked away. I could tell he wanted to go after him, but he just stood there.
"Levi go. I understand, he needs you right now," I simply smiled at him before he turned and ran after Eren. Eren heard him and turned around and fell into Levi's arms out of sadness. I saw him try to comfort Eren from their spot on the floor, but I didn't think he would ever be the same again. I turned away so they could have some time and walked back to Hanji's room. I looked into the room to see Hanji curled up in her blanket facing the window which I assumed she has opened. I walked over to her side of the bed and pulled up a chair and sat down in front of her. Her eyes were red and I saw her try and sit up, but she just flopped back down. I stood up and held out my hand and I got a confused look in return, but I knew what was going to help her. We made our way down halls and into a small room that I hadn't seen in years. There were spider webs covering whiskey bottles and cards scattered across the floor. "Erwin I can't be down here. It was all so long ago, I can-" I cut her off by kissing her forehead and smiling as I made my way over to an old bottle of whiskey and brushing off the webs."C'mon I'm trying to cheer you up. Do you not remember this place?" I asked and I unscrewed the cap of the bottle. She smiles a faint smile as she nodded. This was where the whole "gang" of us would go after training or a long mission in the beginning. I saw her walk over to the cards that were sprawled on the ground, she was the one who left them there. The last time we were down in this room was when Hanji backed out of being a teen and turned into a scientist. Her smile turned into a straight face and then she quickly sat down and covered her face with her fragile hands," Hey I'm sorry there are too many memories down here I shouldn't have brought you here. C'mon lets go then," I said as I held out my hand, but then she looked up at me with a smile."Why would we leave? This is where it all began this is one of the only happy places left in this hell hole," Hanji chuckled and then stood up and wrapped her arms around me for a hug," Thank you Erwin, Thank you."
