Chapter 40
Jake's Pov
I looked at the clock and it was 12:43, I turned in my test and I walked out. I had my day planned out, just me and Casey. Naomi had 4 tests to take and I wanted to spend time with Casey. I walked in the house and saw Cynthia.
"Hey Cyn." I said.
"Hey Jakey." she said and I smirked.
"Why do you insist on calling me that?" I asked.
"Because, I like it," she said. "What can I do for you?"
"Where's my little girl?" I asked.
"She's upstairs asleep." she said.
"Thanks," I said and I walked upstairs to her room. Casey was asleep and I smiled, I walked over and I placed a soft kiss on her head. Her eyes fluttered opened and she looked at me and smiled, I picked her up. I got her a outfit and laid her down. I changed her diaper and she was laughing and kicking. "Ok Casey, sit still." She stopped and pouted.
I put a white shirt on her, a jean short overalls, and a flowery turban on her head. I put her socks on and white converse. I put diamond studs earrings in her ears.
"For a new dad, I think I got a nice sense of fashion." She smiled and squealed, I sat her on the floor and grabbed her bag. I put some stuff in and I picked her up, I walked downstairs and into the kitchen.
"Be careful with that baby, Cameron Jake." Cynthia said.
"I'm not stupid Cynthia," I said and kissed her cheek. "I'll be back later."
"Bye." she said and I walked out to my car, I hooked her in the car seat. I hooked the pacifier in to her bib.
I got to the mall and I got the stroller from the back, I put her in and kissed her head. I pushed her into the mall.
"Ok, where to first Case?" I asked and she squealed. "I have no idea what that meant, but ok." I walked into a baby store and I was looking around, man I hate shopping.
I walked to the food court and I sat down, I pulled out some food and I fed Casey. My phone rang. "Yeah?"
"Hey man, where are you at?" Aaron asked.
"The mall with Casey, what's up?" I asked.
"Justice and I just finished our tests, were on our way." he said.
"What about the others?" I asked.
"They can come when they want." he said.
"I'll see you when you get here." I said.
"Bye." he said and hung up.
"She has pretty blue eyes." A voice said and I looked at who said it. He had dark brown hair that was spiked in the front and he had brown eyes.
"Yeah, she got them from her mom," I said and Casey smiled. "Do I know you?"
"No, but I know you." he said.
"Um how?" I asked.
"I'm the boy adopting Justice." he said and I froze.
"You?" I asked and he nodded.
"I wanted Kaylee but she wouldn't come without her twin." he said.
"Is their specific reason you want a girl?" I asked.
"Actually yes." he said.
"Can I ask what that reason may be?" I asked.
"I've always wanted a little sister." he said.
"How old are you?" I asked.
"I just turned 21." he said.
"Are you even capable of handling a 14 year old?" I asked.
"I'm pretty sure I am." he said.
"Do you have a job?" I asked and stood up.
"Yes, and I'm in college." He said.
"To be what?" I asked.
"I'm not sure yet," he said. "Christy already went over the details."
"Of the adoption, this is details of Justice," I said. "One, you can't leave her home alone to go out to college parties and coming home drunk with a random girl."
"Why?" He asked.
"She's had a tough past and she'll get scared if she sees you drunk," I said. "Yeah, you can go to parties but you can't get full out drunk."
"What else?" He asked.
"Clothes, Justice not the girly type and don't give her makeup even if she asks for it," I said. "Also, she hasn't started her period yet so you do have to teach her about that."
"What am I suppose to know about periods, I'm a dude." he said.
"Welcome to parenthood, do you have a girlfriend?" I asked.
"No." he said.
"Well, you have to show her attention and lots of it," I said. "She does have these moods where she'll have a teen attitude but not a lot. You can't yell at her either, she'll get scared."
"Then how am I suppose to get in her if she does something wrong?" He asked.
"You can make her know you're serious, that doesn't mean yell at her. Just be stern and make her listen," I said. "She is also gonna be scared though, so she's not gonna warm up to you instantly."
"Ok." He said.
"And, you can't just leave her with anyone, definitely boys." I said.
"Any disorders I need to know about?" He asked.
"She has these episodes where she screams and yells, don't touch her or tell her to calm down." I said.
"What am I suppose to do?" He asked.
"Sit on the floor and watch her, when she notices your there don't move or be loud. Wait till she comes to you and talk quiet." I said. "The last and most important thing." I grabbed him and pinned him against the wall. "Lay a hand or hurt Justice, I will shatter your fucking jaw and beat you till you can't stand up. Got me?" He nodded and I let go, he tugged at his collar.
"Damn, you really care for her." he said.
"I care for all those kids, their like my own," I said. "Now, can you handle her now?"
"Yes." he said.
"Good," I said. "When are you coming to pick her up?"
"I already signed the papers, I'm suppose to get her Saturday," he said. "I'm taking her out."
"Out where?" I asked.
"To the campus." he said.
"You're taking a 14 year old to a college campus?" I asked. "On her first night with you?"
"I live on campus." he said.
"Where's she gonna sleep?" I asked.
"In her room," he said. "It's a three room dorm."
"Who's got the other room?" I asked.
"Ashton, he's my dorm mate." He said.
"Didn't I just say she's scared of boys?" I hissed.
"He won't hurt her, plus he's never even there. He's always with his girlfriend." he said.
"Fine, but the same goes for him if he touches her," I said sternly and he nodded. "What's your name?"
"Lee." he said.
"I'm Jake." I said.
"McKenna Cassidy." I heard Aaron hiss and I looked his direction. Casey had her lip poked out about to cry.
"Aaron Isaac," I snapped. "You better watch how you talk to her."
"I'll see you Saturday." Lee said.
"Bye," I said and he walked away, I looked at the two boys and Casey. "Can I ask why you made my daughter cry?"
"She was pulling my hair and I popped her hand," he said. "So, what's up?"
"You came here." I said.
"Well, who was that boy?" Justice asked.
"He's the one adopting Justice." I said.
"What?" Justice shrieked.
"My sister, Justice." I said.
"Jake, I'm sorry." Aaron said.
"I should've known someone was gonna adopt one of us sometime soon," I said. "I just thought Maddie was gonna go first."
"Why not you?" Justice asked.
"Nobody wants a boy my age and I want to stay with Christy and the others." I said.
"If you do get adopted, are you scared to get abused again?" Aaron asked.
"No, I'm older, I can defend myself." I said.
"You do know when you turn 18, you gotta go, right?" Justice asked.
"Yeah, but I don't know if I am," I said. "I mean, all of them look up to me and I'm the oldest besides Brandon."
"I still can't believe you live with a WS member and Dre doesn't care." Aaron said.
"What can he do?" I asked.
"Do you know why he's in there?" Justice asked.
"Yeah, but that's not my place to tell you," I said. "He never told about me."
"I'm still pissed at you though." Aaron said.
"Why?" I asked.
"You told Naomi your biggest secret after knowing her for 2 days but never told your best friends since elementary school," he said. "Seriously dude? We trusted you with everything and you never told us this."
"How was I suppose to tell you guys Aaron?" I asked.
"It's easy, we wouldn't have treated you any different." he said.
"I didn't want to take that chance, you gotta look at it from my point of view." I said.
"We were hurt, but felt stupid because the boy that feels like our brother lied to us." He said.
"If your my brother you should understand." I said.
"Dude, we've all told each other everything but yet you chose to trust the girl with the secrets," he said. "I love Naomi, I really do, she's like a little sister me but it doesn't make us feel any better."
"All of you, or just you?" I hissed.
"All of us." he snapped.
"Then why are you the one telling me?" I asked. "The girls to scared to talk to me?"
"Why shouldn't they, you get mad so quick." he hissed.
"So do you," I spat. "I've never hurt those girls, I've always protected them so don't even try and make me the bad one."
"Really? The Jake I knew, would've never touched a girl." he spat.
"Really? You gotta bring up the past?" I spat. "Yes I regret ever touching Naomi, but I can't take it back."
"Were you ever gonna tell us?" He hissed. "It would've been a good lie trying to tell us why you ran out of the school so fast."
"Why are you bringing this up now?" I snapped.
"I wanted things to die down before I said anything," he spat and I shook my head. "You know, I wouldn't be surprised if there's more secrets your hiding. What's next Jake?"
"Like you've never had secrets Aaron." I spat.
"I've always trusted you to tell you, I thought you trusted me too." he spat.
"I do trust you, but it was something I couldn't tell. That would've lead to a lot of questions I didn't want to answer."
"I wouldn't have asked them then, all you had to do was say you were a adopted," he spat. "But instead you told Naomi, but she's pretty good at keeping secrets too. Why are you so protective of them kids Jake?"
"Because I want to be." I snapped.
"Are you sure because I think there's a little more to the story," he hissed. "Just like Justice." My fist connected with his jaw.
"You know, I thought you would be smarter when to shut up," I hissed and he punched me, I tackled him and we started fighting. I saw Justice move Casey and I kicked Aaron off me and punched him.
"Jakey," I heard a small voice, I saw Maddie and Taylor and Tyler were with her. I saw Haylee but not Kaylee.
"Get off my brother." Kaylee hissed and pushed Aaron.
"Kay, go over there," I said and she looked at Aaron and then me. "Now Kaylee." I said more stern and she looked at Aaron and punched him, she ran to Taylor and into his arms. I looked at Aaron and his look was just as cold as mine.
"Ok, how stupid can you two be?" Macy spat and we looked at her, Simone was beside her.
"Stay out of this Macy." Aaron hissed and she looked at him.
"No, you two are brothers and you're fighting." Simone snapped.
"Because he had the guts to tell me the truth unlike some people." I hissed.
"You told him?" Macy asked.
"Someone had too," Aaron hissed and looked at me. "I just found out who I thought was my brother was nothing but a liar."
"I lied about one thing Aaron." I spat.
"That one thing was huge, you lied about your life. You're adopted and you didn't tell us." he spat.
"You didn't tell anyone about us?" Haylee asked and I looked at her. "You're ashamed of us?"
"I'm not ashamed of you Haylee." I said.
"You sure about that? As I remember, you were the one who told Maddie there was nothing wrong about being an orphan." Kaylee spat.
"Were just a big secret," Taylor hissed. "We look up to you Jake."
"Jake, I thought loved us, I thought you loved me." Maddie said with tears in her eyes.
"Maddie, come on don't cry." I said and walked near her but she ran behind Tyler.
"Don't let him hurt me Ty." she whispered and I looked at Tyler.
"You did it, she's never seen you mad and you promised," he said. "You know who's she's thinking of." I looked at Aaron.
"I really hope you feel proud right now." I said.
"Jake-"
"Save it," I said. "Nice knowing you." I looked at the kids and walked past them.
"But Jakey," I heard Maddie and I stopped, I turned around. "What about us?" I walked to her and bent to her level, I brushed her hair behind her ear.
"Brandon and Christy will take care of you." I said.
"No Jake, please don't leave." she cried.
"You'll be better off." I said and she went to hug me but I stood up.
"Cameron, where are you going?" Tyler asked.
"The last house I was at." I said.
"Jake please." Haylee and Kaylee said.
"Jake come on," Macy said. "You can't just leave."
"Watch me." I said.
"What about Naomi and Casey?" Tyler asked and I looked at him.
"She'll live and Casey will too." I said.
"And what about if one of us gets adopted?" Haylee asked.
"What's that got to do with me?" I asked.
"We come back just like Justice did." he said.
"Like I said, Brandon's there." I said and turned back around.
"So you're just gonna leave," Taylor asked. "Just like everyone else left us? How's you feel when your parents left you, that they didn't want you." I turned back around and looked at him.
"Watch it, Taylor." I said sternly.
"What Jake? You're not my brother anymore, you can't get on me no more," he said. "You never were around to watch us any way, except Maddie."
"That's a lie." I said.
"Is it really?" He asked.
"When am I not there for you guys?" I asked.
"Considering Taylor got in a fight today, I guess not enough." Haylee said.
"Haylee," Taylor hissed and hit her arm. "You weren't suppose to tell."
"Don't hit your sister and you got in fight?" I asked.
"Yeah, but I had a good reason." he said quickly.
"That reason better be good." I said.
"The dude hit Kaylee's butt and she didn't say anything," he said. "He's been messing with her for a awhile now."
"What?" I asked and looked at her. "Why didn't you tell me? And it was a boy."
"I didn't want to be a snitch." she said.
"Snitch or not, I've taught you better than to let someone walk over you." I hissed.
"He's on the football team and basketball team, why would she go against him?" Tyler asked.
"Um sorry to interrupt this moment but based on you just punched me and everyone in my high school is terrified of me," Aaron said. "There's another reason you didn't stand up against him." She glared at him.
"You gotta big mouth, you know." she hissed.
"Spill." he said, she looked at me.
"Jake." she said.
"You heard him, spill Kaylee or you're getting in trouble and so is Taylor." I said and she stayed quiet.
"Kaylee, just tell him," Haylee said. "It's not like he's done worse than Kyle did."
"He was messing with Haylee first and I took it so he'd leave her alone," she said. "Plus, I didn't want the team messing with the twins."
"Kay, I'd rather them mess with us than you," Tyler said. "We're suppose to stick together."
"What else Kaylee." Aaron said and she looked at him.
"What?" She asked.
"What else is there? You've already told a lot so just tell all of it." he said.
"He started messing with me because I punched him for messing with Justice," she said. "The team was."
"What'd they do to her?" I asked and she looked at Taylor and she opened her mouth to talk but her voice didn't come out.
"None of your concern." I heard Justices voices and I turned to her.
"It is my concern." I said.
"Technically it's not." she said.
"I'm your brother so it is, Justice Blake." I said stern.
"You leaving so how is that your business?" She spat.
"I'm not leaving, now tell me what they done," I said and she put her hand on her hip. "Don't." She crossed her arms.
"Why do you care so much?" She hissed.
"You're my sister." I said.
"The team surrounded us in the gym and they were messing with her," Kaylee said. "I'm sorry Justice, but I don't want to get in trouble with him."
"They touched you?" I asked.
"Kaylee tried to get them to leave me alone but Kian held her back." Justice said.
"When'd this happen?" I asked.
"The day I had my episode, I lied to you Jake." she said.
"About what?" I asked.
"The only reason I had that was because of my anxiety," she said. "I don't get them unless I have a panic attack."
"You're now just telling me?" I hissed.
"At least I told you." She said smartly.
"Lose it, Justice." I said sternly.
"Yeah, yeah, I remember what you said," she said. "But I don't listen very well."
"Uh oh." Tyler said. "Wrong move Justice."
"Jake, she's new, just leave it." Haylee said and Justice smirked, I gave her my look and her smirked slowly faded.
"You don't listen very well but last time I checked when's the last time you've touched a knife?" I asked.
"So?" She hissed.
"What'd I tell you if I caught cuts on you?" I asked.
"That I'd be in trouble." She said low.
"You listened to me then." I said.
"Because I didn't want to get in trouble." she said.
"What makes you think you won't now?" I asked and she looked at me.
"What? What about them?" She asked.
"Their in trouble too but I'm focused on you." I said.
"You're not my dad Jake and you can't tell me what to do." she snapped.
"Watch me." I hissed.
"The only thing I'm watching, is me leaving." she spat and turned to walked away and I grabbed her wrist and pulled her back.
"You still gotta go home and I'm coming home." I said.
"It won't make a difference." she said, I let go of her and looked at the others.
"You guys just go." I said with anger in my voice.
"Thanks a lot Justice, now he's gonna be in a bad mood with all of us." Taylor spat.
"Taylor." I spat and he looked at me.
"What Jake?" He snapped and he walked out and they followed, Maddie looked at me.
"Don't get mad at them, they just were protecting each other," she said. "Like you taught us."
"Madison, lets go." Tyler said and she ran to him. I looked at the others but now, Naomi was with them.
"So daddy Jake, how much trouble are they in?" She asked.
"Depends who gets to them first," I said. "Let's just hope I don't have to deal with Brandon too."
"Jake, their kids." Simone said.
"I was a kid too but I still got in trouble," I said, I pecked Naomi lips. "I don't know if I coming to your house but I'll try."
"Don't hurt them Jake," she said and I looked at her. "Just saying."
"I'm not, but no kid is to old for a whooping." I said.
"Don't whoop them." She said.
"Bye." I said and walked out to my car and got in, I drove to the house and got out. I walked in the house and I whistled, I waited and they all came down and sat on the couch. Except Justice and Taylor.
"Get down there." I heard Taylor and heard footsteps, both came and sat down.
"Who's ate?" I asked.
"We just came home and went to our rooms." Tyler said.
"I'll call for some pizza, you all go get showers," I said. "Maddie, I'll be up there to help you in a minute," they all raced upstairs to the showers and I grabbed the phone. I ordered and I walked upstairs and into Maddie's room, I covered my eyes. "Is it clear?"
"Yeah," she said and I peeked. "I need help." she had her shirt on wrong and I chuckled. I walked to her and took her shirt off, well, it was my shirt. I put it on her right.
"Better?" I asked and she nodded. "Ok, go downstairs and if someone knocks on the door-"
"Yell for you, I know." She said.
"Just go." I said and she ran out, I walked out.
"Jake!" Haylee called and I walked to her room and I opened the door. It was the wrong room but I froze, I walked back out and to Haylee's room.
"Yeah." I answered.
"I lost track." She said and I rolled my eyes.
"Haylee." I said.
"Will you just go?" She asked annoyed and I walked to my room. I went in my closet and grabbed a box, I walked back to Haylee's room.
"Here." I said.
"Thanks." she said and she went to the bathroom and came back out.
"You gotta be more careful, Haylee." I said.
"It was late, I didn't know." she said, I walked out and downstairs. The kids ate and they sat in the couch.
"Who's first?" I asked.
"I'm not sorry I beat his butt," Taylor said. "She's my sister and he touched her."
"I get that." I said.
"I'm sorry I lied to you." Haylee said.
"Me too." Kaylee said.
"By sticking up for yourself, doesn't mean fighting either." I said.
"Justice." Tyler said and she looked at me.
"What?" She asked with attitude.
"Justice." I said.
"Cameron." she said.
"You're pushing my buttons Justice." I said.
"Am I suppose to care?" She asked.
"Just go to you room Justice, I'll deal with you later." I said.
"Wow, I'm so scared." she said and I walked to her and got in her face.
"You may be fourteen but you're on the verge of getting something you don't want." I gritted through my teeth.
"Jake, come on." Taylor said.
"You shut up," I hissed. "I'm tired of your attitude, Justice."
"I'm tired of yours," she hissed. "You can't get respect unless you give it."
"I respect you Justice, but just because you have a bad past doesn't mean you're going to get off the hook. So does the rest of them and I get on them just the same," I said. "You can get mad at me, tell me you hate me, I don't care but it won't change anything."
"You don't treat us different but your little angel down there was he one who got a orange light today. How much trouble is she getting in?" she snapped and I looked at Maddie.
"Go to your room Madison." I said sternly.
"Jakey-"
"Now," I said more stern and tears welled in her eyes, she walked upstairs and then ran up the stairs. "You, I'd advise you to go to your room because I'm real close to losing my temper."
"You-"
"Justice, you have five seconds to get to that room," I gritted through my teeth and she walked upstairs. I looked at Haylee. "You, you're grounded for a week, you go to school and straight back home."
"But-"
"You want two weeks?" I asked.
"No sir." She said.
"I'll be up later," I said and she stood up, I kissed her head. I looked at Tyler. "I don't know what you did but just go to bed." He walked upstairs and I looked at Taylor.
"So?" He asked.
"I already have one diva, I don't need you to start," I said. "I'm pretty sure you don't want anything either. You're grounded too, here and school," he walked upstairs and I looked at Kaylee. "And you Kaylee Daniella, go to your room."
"Why?" she asked.
"Now, I'll talk to you last," I said and she walked upstairs and I followed. I walked to Maddie's room first, she was in her bed. I walked to her and she looked at me. "What'd you do Madison?"
"Jake-"
"Now." I said.
"I was talking and playing in class," she said. "I'm sorry."
"You're grounded too, here and school." I said.
"What? No." she said.
"Excuse me?" I asked.
"That's not fair." she said.
"Life isn't fair, you shouldn't have gotten in trouble." I said.
"So?" She snapped, I moved the covers and she shot up. "I'm sorry, Jake," I grabbed her and she struggled, I whooped her and she was crying.
"Now lay down, and go to bed." I said sternly and she laid down, I went to kissed her head and she moved.
"Leave me alone." she cried.
"Fine, be like that." I said and I started to walk out.
"Jake." she said, I turned out the light and walked out. I walked to Taylor's room next and peeked in.
"Night Tay." I said.
"Night Jake." he said and I walked in and to him.
"Taylor, you know why I grounded you, right?" I asked and he rolled his eyes. "Oh and, pass me that phone."
"Jake, come on." he said.
"Now," I said and he gave it, I turned out the light and walked out and I done the same with Tyler. I walked to Haylee's room and she was in her phone. "Pass it." She gave it to me. "Hay-"
"Just leave me alone Jake." she said low, I moved her hair and I kissed her head. I turned out the light and walked to Justices room. She was putting her hair up and she looked at me through the mirror.
"I'm about to go to bed, I just had to brush my hair drama king." she said and I walked to her and took the brush. I started brushing it.
"Justice, you know I didn't mean to get mad at you like that." I said.
"Whatever." she said and I put her hair up, she climbed in the bed.
"Ok, now phone," I said and she gave it to me. "You guys have bad attitudes today."
"Like you don't?" She spat, I kissed her head and I walked out. I walked to Kaylees room. She was on her phone and I took it and she shot up.
"Give it back." She said.
"No Kay." I said.
"Why are you so mad at me?" She asked and I rubbed her neck and the makeup came off on my fingers.
"I don't know, you tell me why there's a fucking hickey on your neck Kaylee Daniella." I hissed and she flinched.
"Jake, its not a big deal." she said.
"Not a big deal?" I spat. "Someones been sucking on my sisters neck, what else did you do Kay?"
"None of you business." she snapped.
"It is my business," I spat. "You're 14."
"And you're 17." she spat.
"I'm older." I snapped.
"You're not even my real brother and you're not my dad so stay out of my business and leave me alone." she spat, my eyes narrowed and my fists clenched.
"Kay." I said with anger.
"What Jake?" she spat.
"Go to bed." I said.
"You can't tell me what to do." she snapped and I kissed her head.
"I wish you guys would understand why I want to protect you." I whispered and I walked out turning off the light. I should not be dealing with this, we were going on a trip tomorrow.
