A Machete, A Revealing, An Apology

Welcome to another chapter! This one is one of my favorites, just because I love Josh and Bo.

Happy Reading!

"Hey, Sam! Wake up!" A voice echoed. Sam's tired eyes awoke to find no one in the room. "Sam!" It whispered again. Looking again around the room to find the source of noise, Sam noticed a little hole where no one other than Mike stared back at her.

"Mike?" She whispered back in disbelief. He shushed her as she leaned forward in her chair, ignoring the fact she was still in a towel.

"What?" She squinted her eyes.

"Get over here!" Mike continued to whisper-yell. Staring at her current condition, her arms and legs tied around a swirly chair, she obeyed and pushed herself closer to Mike. "Give me your hands." He ordered as Sam turned herself around with her chair, showing off her binded hands while he cut them with his cool machete.

"Ouch." She hissed, rubbing her wrists when she was fully freed. "Damn, that rope was tight." She took hold of the blade and cut her ankles free as well. "But thank God you found me." She leaned down to get a better look into the hole.

"It's okay, you're okay." Mike assured her.

"What happened to your fingers?" Sam ignored his previous statement, in awe at the mutilation of Mike's hand.

"Yeah..." He sighed. "And I'm the lucky one."

"Jesus, what happened!?" She demanded.

"There's a fucking maniac on that mountain that's trying to kill us all!" Mike explained bluntly, leaving no points behind.

"This guy that you're talking about? Yeah, he attacked me." She said through gritted teeth, feeling angry at herself for not fighting back more. Sam felt as though she could have done more to prevent this from happening to herself. "He showed me videos, too. And one he showed me was Josh being murdered. Right next to Bo. It was fucking awful."

"Jesus..." Mike cursed under his breath.

"He was cut right in half by a saw blade on wheels."

"What is even going on around here? Listen, there's a door here and it won't open. Can you unlock it from your side?" He stratigized. Sam nodded before grabbing a hold of her backpack and pulling out a flashlight, strapping it on her back, opening the door as well. Her barefeet hit the stone cold ground, and felt shivers run up her spine. She wasn't necessarily clothed for chilly weather. She wasn't necessarily clothed at all. Walking down cement steps, she reached a door locked with a piece of wood blocking any exit. Pulling the wood off with a huff, she threw it over her shoulder and as quietly as possibly, careful not to attract any attention to herself.

Sam opened the door with a flourish to see Mike in the flesh, hobbling out of her way.

"Hey!" He greeted her, softly.

"You look like hell!" Sam complimented, skipping the introductions.

"Nice to see you, too." Mike said, sarcastically as she walked past him. She pulled spare clothes from her pack. "What are you doing there?"

"Well, I can't kick maniac ass with a towel on, now can I?" She snorted, unfolding the sport leggings and red sweatshirt. When she noticed Mike still standing there, she raised an eyebrow. "Do you mind, Mike?" She twirled her fingers to signal for him to turn around.

"Oh! Right!" He did as he was asked, awkwardly.

"Alright, done." She said, after fixing her top on and placing the towel in her backpack. Suddenly, the two of them heard sniffling and shouting in a whole different room. Sam wasn't able to distinctly identify them but she had best guessed it was Ashley and Chris.

"Is that...crying?" Mike asked. Sam shook her head darkly.

"I think so." Sam reluctantly agreed. With the two of them working together, they easily threw open the opposite steel door, slamming themselves into it. The room revealed Ashley, Chris and surprisingly Bo, but her head was limply hanging downwards, as she made no sudden movements. She definitely wasn't okay.

Ashley began to cry out series of 'no, get aways' as a figure in a mask and overalls headed towards the three of them, all chained to a table. Gunshots were heard as Mike and Sam watched Chris shoot them at the psycho.

"Oh, Chris." He spoke, his voice obviously tampered with to hide the identity of the psycho. His head turned to the side, "Oh, Chris, Chris, Chris." He continued and paced back and forth in front of the table.

"What the fuck!?" Chris swore out, looking at his gun to check for anything he was missing. The psycho finally moved around the table instead of just around the front, creeping behind Ashley and making her head frantically move side to side.

"Oh, you've heard of blanks before," He held his arms out wide to the side, "I mean really?" He stopped behind the lifeless Bo, as his fingers danced around his mask, pulling on the edges, revealing the man behind it.

Josh Washington, alive and whole.

The whole table went silent until Chris broke the barrier.

"Josh?"

"Josh!" Sam ran forward into view. At the mention of him, Bo's head rolled slightly, but not fully up. He began to laugh, not genuine at all, though. It sounded forced and different than before. Everyone seemed to wait for Bo's reaction but she was too sick to even comprehend what she was hearing around her.

"Hey, everyone." His voice was low and gentle.

"Josh..." Mike repeated, menacingly, almost like he was warning him to say one more thing.

"Oh, oh very good." Josh admitted, and continued to pace around the table. A fool could tell he was trying to get Bo to realize he was there.

"Josh!" The muffled voices rang in Bo's ear. She hummed quietly once to herself, before forcing herself to move her head slightly. Whenever she opened her eyes, the world looked like 3-D glasses to her, red and blue outlined the walls and every feature anyone had, so she kept her eyes shut.

And even though she had shut them tightly, her brain continued to tell her the world was spinning.

Then a laugh. Just like Josh's but different. More forced, more evil.

Bo wanted nothing more than to just open her eyes and see but her body told her no by keeping her still. Every time someone spoke, what felt like a high pitched frequency would outdrown the words.

She knew he was there, she knew he was alive, and while her spirit rejoiced and her heart ached, the rest of her body was unresponsive, shivering in the cold air of the basement. She could hear him talk to her friends, she realized where he was but still had to fight the sickness in her brain.

Bo had done so well before, when she had found Sam, but she was fighting so hard that when she let go of that hope for a second, her whole body plunged into it's disease. Bo needed to regain that strength that she had for so long until she reached this dreaded place.

Keep talking, Josh. Say or do anything but it has to be something.

Bo prayed as hard as she could.

Get up.

"They're gone!" She finally heard something without the ringing. That was a start. "I hope you appreciated my little phantasmagorical spectacle!" Josh continued as his voice grew clearer and clearer. Now that her body was semi-responsive, she just needed to work up the courage to wake up and face Josh. Her brain was working, it was reading thoughts and images and words, she understood speech again, and she was remembering memories.

Bo realized that all her hurting, all her sadness and loneliness she felt was Josh's fault. That he had hurt her, not physically, but emotionally for a revenge spree.

"It was such a delight playing the puppet master!" Josh bragged. Bo felt her something rise up in her, and it was not her lunch this time. It was raw anger. How could he have done that to her? Tell her he loved her and then rip himself apart just to mess with her and Chris? "To all of you Pavlovian panic!"

"What about during the shed, huh!?" Chris yelled out, just as angry as she was. "I saw you cut in half! Bo saw you cut in half! You hurt her, and what, for this? For your sick entertainment?"

"It was a fake body. It was fake blood!" Josh explained, giddily but suddenly grew serious. "And I never meant to hurt Bo, don't you dare accuse me of doing so. She wasn't supposed to be there! She was supposed to be sleeping this entire time!"

"How did you expect her to sleep through all of this shit!" Mike jumped in, his arm waving over the unresponsive girl.

"I put a sleeping aid in her smore. She was supposed to be out of the way but then she woke up during our little 'Hannah' meeting. I figured if I knocked you all out, I could just put Bo back to bed and we could both go home in the morning. But then I messed up and put Ashley in Bo's spot and Bo in Ashley's." He explained. The way his voice sounded now was the real Josh, the one they were familiar with. "She wasn't supposed to be in the shed with me. I never. Meant. To hurt. Bo."

It suddenly all made sense to Chris. How sleepy Bo actually was so fast, the way the man on the Intercom had introduced all of them as Chris, Josh and Ashley instead of Bo. But it was no excuse for what he did. Even if he took huge precautions to keep Bo from harm.

"Josh, why are you doing this?" Sam said softly, as if trying to coax him to show the real self.

"Don't even ask this sqiurelly little runt." Mike grunted. "He's out of his fucking tree."

"He's definitely off his meds." Chris admitted.

"Oh, come on, guys!" Josh's tone grew back to the insane way he was before he talked about Bo. "Revenge is the best medicine!"

"We thought your best medicine was Bo." Ashley said, quietly speaking up for the first time.

"What?" He said, her statement catching him off guard.

"Did you ever even love her?" Chris prodded at the beast. "You so well proclaimed it back in the shed. Did you ever love her, or were you just acting to get revenge on her?"

"Hey, listen you fuck!" Josh got in his face, making Chris rise up in his seat as well. "She is everything to me! She was the only one who gave two shits about me in my time of grief! She has been there for me without explanation, without payback while all of you have an agenda when it comes to me." Backing away and returning to his spot behind Bo's chair, he realized how quiet the room got. The last of his rant ended with a whisper. A whisper that if only him and Bo could hear, would be more than alright with him. "I never believed in love at first sight. But honest, I knew it was you the moment I laid eyes on you."

"His little...verbal love letter," Mike said, snarling at Josh, "does not explain why he had to fucking murder Jessica!"

"What?" Josh gasped out.

"Didn't you hear me?" Mike crept closer, dangerously fast. "Jessica is dead, and you're going to fucking pay, you dick!" Knocking a square one right in the face, Josh fell to the ground.

"Hey!" Chris got up and held Mike back, Sam running to tend Josh's face. "Calm down, he's sick. Let him explain more!"

"Oh, I think he already did a fucking fantastic job!" Mike growled, struggling against Chris.

"Just, let's bring him to a place where we can set him down and deal with him later?" Ashley suggested. Sam pulled Josh up to his feet as he dizzily followed her towards the group.

"Nuh uh," Mike childishly said, "Don't bring him near me, I'll rip out his teeth." He turned his back from Josh, whose eyes were wide open as he tipped his head down, blood from his nose dripping down his arm.

"C'mon, Josh." Sam pulled him over a little further from the group and reached into her bag in order to take out a small thing of Kleenex she was sure she had. Pulling out the small bag, Josh sighed in relief.

"Thanks, Sam."

"Yeah, don't expect any more charity from me. What you did today? It was insane, unforgivable. Some of us weren't even apart of the prank. Just like Mr. Jensen, our tenth grade Biology teacher? Always handing out group punishments to everybody when it was just you and Mike screwing up the class?" She watched as he slowly wrapped his fingers around the napkin and held it to his nose.

Mike walked out of the room in a rage fit suddenly, capturing Sam's attention. When she turned back to check on Josh, she noticed he was trying to talk with Bo, who either wasn't having it or was very ill.

"Bo?" Josh whispered, gently, holding onto her hand, his eyes widening when he felt how cold they were. "Bo, please look at me." He grabbed hold of her chin and tried to move her face up to look at him but she was practically passed out, her eyes only fluttering slightly before closing them again. He unlocked the chains on her hands. "Bo, I know right now, things are really crazy and you're probably confused why I did this to you, I just...I love you, so much, you know? I didn't want to, I tried to get you to stay home, I d-did everything in my power to keep you from getting hurt or seeing anything you didn't want to, or losing you, I can't lose you. I'm so...so sorry."

A soft hum was heard from Bo's lips as her head moved slightly. "You're awake!" He whispered and held up her face, with a wide smile. However, he slowly let go when he saw how bad in shape she was. Her face with pale with dark circles around Bo's eyes, her veins almost completely shown underneath her skin. From her hair being in a bun, from faraway Josh could only tell she was pale but not sickly as she was.

Josh shook his head as a tear fell out and rolled down his cheek. His first one since his sister's funeral.

"Josh." Sam said, her voice almost sounding like a Military general's. "Let's go." She and Chris binded him up in the chains that Ashley was held in.

"What about Bo?" Ashley asked, stepping out of the way to reveal her still lifeless in her seat.

"I can carry her!" Josh almost immediately suggested with wide eyes.

"Ha! No." Chris said humorlessly. "You're chained up. If you wanted to help Bo maybe you shouldn't have tortured all of us."

"Come on, man." He grunted, nodding hid head to the side as if he wanted to talk privately. Rolling his eyes, Chris took Josh by the arm and threw him off the the side, "If you were me, and you woke up in that shed to see you've made a mistake and Ashley was right next to you, chained all the same as you had been, especially after doing anything you could, lying to her, drugging her, knocking her out, what would you do?"

Chris got up in Josh's face, "I'd stay dead, you selfish bastard."
