Chapter 9: Countdown Part 4

You have 1 day until the mission.

Jess closed her book, putting it back in her Inventory as she stood still, looking over the massive graveyard. The dark clouds poured heavily on her wither skull as thunder echoed through the grey sky; the wind blowing against her black cloak.

She walked deeper into the graveyard, walking familiar paths and turns on the gravel pathway. She walked pass other grieving families. She walked pass funeral in progress, despite the heavy rain. But she didn't care, she was for one thing, and one thing only.

It was then she stopped at two unmaintained graves. She got on her knees and cleared away the dirt and vines. It was until after the mess was cleared she spoke.

"Hey mom," she said to one grave. "and mom." She said to the other grave. "Uh, other mom? Or is it Moms? I still don't know how to properly address it." She said, addressing the two graves in front of her. "Sorry for not visiting in a long time I was... delusional." She said to tombstones.

It was known in this town that two women raised Jess and her brother. One of them was her birth mother, their father died as she was pregnant, the other woman came into their lives much later; her stepmom.

That is until one day her stepmother died from a disease, and then for some unknown reason, her birth mother disappeared without a trace, and presumed dead.

So the town made the graves, and she and her brother would visit. But as time moved on, so did they. They promised to visit as they moved out of their hometown, preparing to live their own lives.

But they never did come back to visit. The one thing she could remember about her birth mother was her long, blue hair.

She continued to talk to the graves. "I thought I had friends, but I really didn't. We simply didn't 'connect', unlike my brother, Jesse. I never understood why you gave us both the same name." she said shaking her head. Thunder cracked loudly.

"If you did it because you thought we would stick together, then you were wrong. If you thought that we would be equals, then you misplaced your faith. If you thought that we would look out for each other, then you are the most stupid parents to have ever existed..." She said, glaring at the graves.

"... but I love you both so much." She said, taking off her mask, her eyes soft as bread dough as tears were mixing with the heavy rain.

"I felt... so much pain." She said to the graves, slouching forward. "I feel abandoned. I feel all alone... but I've managed to make a friend." She said, smiling despite the tears.

"He's... eccentric, but his heart is in the right place. But life wasn't kind to him. Remember... remember when we would all go the fair, have fun? We would talk about the Order of the Stone?" she said, remembering the happy memories she had with her brother and her moms.

"Well... they're liars. There weren't four members, there were five." She said as she told her story of how on the day of her birthday that everything changed.

"...I know you said to take pride in my name... but I decided to stick with the name Jess." She said. "Not that I mean to offend you or anything." She quickly added. "But I feel like I need to take pride in things that make me... well, me."

"I love you both so much, and Jesse does too. I'll try to come back someday, but I simply can't make any promises. Not anymore." She said, putting on her wither skull as she walked back into the livelier part of town.

As she walked deeper into town, passing by the familiar streets, glancing at the new things that were added since she and her brother left.

While she still wore her cloak and wither skull, people didn't mind her, especially since they were dressing up as well.

Once a month, the town would host a grand fair as people would dress up during this day. They would be as monsters, their favorite heroes, the occasional villain, and sometime they wouldn't wear anything at all.

During this one, special day of the month, there would be booths of vast varieties. There would be food, games, merchants, and laughter. She and her moms would take her and her brother every year, dressing up to fit the theme they're wearing.

She remembers the year that they all dressed up like the Order of the Stone. She was dressed as Gabriel, her brother was Soren, birth mom was Ellegaard, and stepmom was Magnus.

Another year was a theme of monsters. She and her brother were zombies, and her moms were a pair of endermen.

'Such good memories...' she sadly thought to herself.

And despite the heavy rain, people are still celebrating. There are colorful rainbow beacons, shooting a large variety of colors into the air as the redstone lamps shinned so bright that they emitted warmth.

It was then she walked to her old house, still vacant after all these years. She went inside and looked around the dusty, empty place that was once a source of joy and cheer.

She walked up to the fireplace, looking at the vacant spot where the family picture was before turning around and taking three steps forward. She punched the wooden floor, breaking the block, revealing a chest.

Opening it, she found a necklace. It was a silver chain that has a black heart pendent, with white flames. She used [Observe] on it.

Necklace: Burning Love

Given to Jesse at a young age by her stepmother.

'Remember that love is more intense than fire, brighter than the sun, and will always be with you. Love is an eternal companion.' Her stepmother told her long ago, after the monthly fair was coming to a close.

She used to think what she said was silly, and she still thinks so now, so she hid it under the floor. She regretted that she even hid it in the first place, ever since she and her brother became orphans. She wished that she took this with her when they left, but she simply forgotten.

She then spent the next hour in her former bedroom, walking down memory lane. She then said one last goodbye before leaving the house. Putting the necklace on, she wore it proudly as the pendent hanged outside of her cloak, and not tucked in under it like her other necklace: Notched Strength.

She walked back to the fair, where everyone was wearing their costumes, not caring about the rain, looking at her minions in awe. She brought all of them: Hulk, Bones, Legs, Smoke, and even her new ghast, Steam.

"Whoa, nice zombie costume dude!" a woman from the crowd complimented Hulk.

"I like the one made out of bones." A man said.

"Which one?" someone asked.

"Duh, both of them!" he shouted.

"I like the spider- no wait, the ghast!" a woman said. "Hey," she said to Steam. "How did you make you're costume realistic?"

"Maybe it's a real ghast?!" someone else shouted.

"Don't be stupid!" the woman shouted. "Ghast don't wear iron armor, have three eyes, and hooked tentacles! This is simply an awesome, nightmare version of a ghast." The woman concluded, the crowd agreeing with her.

Of course they didn't know that is a real ghast, her ghast that she managed to evolve. Even after doing a ton of hard quests, she managed to get him up to level 50 as the rest of her minions are level 90 as she herself is at level 105.

She could have bought another sub-skill for [Creature Tamer], but she was determined to make sure she had every advantage she has when they go to fight the Enderdragon. She decided to come back and visit her home, just in case she failed and the last thing she did was going to one of the monthly fairs her town hosted.

It never hurts to have fun every now and then, now does it?

Jess sent a mental message to her minions. It was then Legs, Bones and Smoke climbed on top of Steam as Steam used his tentacles to securely wrap around Hulk, capturing the attention of the audience as they rose into the air. She then pulled out Conquest, double-checking her skill [Leaping].

[Leaping](Active) level 10

You can now jump to a maximum height of 20 blocks. You take 10% less fall damage.

While she could jump up to 20 blocks, that doesn't mean she would. The fall damage alone would be enough to break her legs.

So with carful precision, she managed to jump, twist, flip, and land on top of her ghast. Turning the attention of the crowd to her.

"Ladies and gentlemen, are you enjoying what you see?" she asked the crowd, they replied with a large cheer.

"I hope you do, because believe me, these costumes were not easy to make." She lied as the crowd gasp, whispering to each other.

"How did you make the costumes?!" an excited fan asked.

"Sorry, trade secret. But who like to see something special?" she asked, changing the subject as the crowd's growing excited.

"What's that? I can't hear you?" she mockingly asked. The crowd cheered even louder.

"All right, I will now make us... disappear!" she said, pulling out a Splash Potion of Teleportation. "Everyone stepped back!" she demanded as the crowd of people cleared some space.

"I just want to say, thank you, you've been a wonderful audience!" she complemented as she threw the potion on herself and her monsters, causing them to teleport all the way back towards the temple, not knowing they've impressed an entire crowd of people.

When she arrived in the main area of the temple, and scaring Ivor, she quickly ran to the various rooms; grabbing armor, weapons, and food.

She then sat on the floor, in her room, and opened her book to the quest section.

Quest: Homesick, has been competed. +10 levels of Experience have been rewarded.

Bonus Objective has been completed. You talked with your deceased loved ones. The skill [Eternal Love] has been rewarded.

Bonus Objective has been completed. You retrieved the necklace Burning Love. The item [Burning Love] is now a quest item.

Notch admires your emotional release and granted you 2000 Divine Points.

She then looked at the new skill.

[Eternal Love] (Passive) Level 1

Even though they are gone, their love for you still remains even now. This skill fills you with calm and security when you are under mental stress.

"Thanks moms, you two really are the best." She quietly thanked.

"Jess, hurry! We need to get packing!" She heard Ivor shout, and then a large explosion. "Agh! Jess, hurry! There's a fire!" Ivor screamed.

After helping Ivor with his potions, and putting out the fire, Jess gathered her minions together at the large Nether Portal.

She wore her usual attire: a black cloak, a wither skull, diamond armor underneath, with her necklace Notched Strength. But this time she has her good luck charm, her necklace Burning Love, given by her stepmom.

Ivor was wearing his armor from his days as a member of the Order of the Stone. It was gold armor, mixed with lapis, and had a blue gem on the front of the helmet. The only change he made was the four Potion Flasks that were attached to his back, funneling the liquid to him at will.

There are: Flasks of Speed, Strength, Hyper-Regeneration, and a new one called Resistance, which reduces damage by 80% when applied. However, these have a limited use, and they don't last very long, he's still trying to work out all the problems.

"Are you ready Jess?" he asked.

"Of course I am, but I'm still nervous." She admitted.

Ivor patted her on the back. "Don't worry, just follow my lead and you'll be fine. Now lets go!" he shouted.

And so Jess used her ghast to transport them through the infinite Nether, to a secret Nether Portal that leads to Soren's fortress. After making lots of ups, downs, and sharp turns to avoid lava and other lethal things, they finally found it.

Jess sent Steam away, back to the temple because he is simply too big to fit through the small Nether Portal. Her minions and Ivor stepped through, letting the weird feeling wash over them as they cross dimensions.

They emerged in a man-made cave, with only torches for light. "Over here." Ivor tapped a button, and suddenly a large, hidden door slide open. They all stepped through, revealing they are in a long, stone brick corridor, illuminated by redstone lamps.

"This way," he ran down the corridor to the right, Jess and her minions following. "If I remember, Soren should be checking on his Grinder about now." He said as he turned left. "There is a secret entrance I built here long ago, one that leads straight to the Grinder's sorting and storage system." He said as he turned to the right.

"So you built a secret entrance, that leads to another secret entrance?" she questioned as they ran through the maze-like fortress. "Seems a little weird."

He just scoffed. "Oh Please. What you people call weird, I call fun." He said as they came across a dead end. Ivor pulled out a pair of sheers, and used it to clear the 'stone' wall, which turned out to be grey wool, with added detail to match the surrounding stone bricks.

They all stepped through, Ivor covering the secret entrance that lead to another tunnel, they continued to run as they spotted a light source up ahead. They quickly continued to run towards it, revealing a 5x5 hole filled with water, with a glass blocks under it; illuminated by the room below. Ivor took off his helmet, closed his eye, and sunk his head in the water; listening.

"Uh, Ivor-?" Jess asked, only to be cut off with a raised hand from Ivor. They waited for a few tense moments before Ivor got up. "Okay, he's gone, now's our chance!" he said, breaking the glass block and jumping down the hole.

Jess and her minions followed, riding down the mini waterfall into Soren's storage room for his Grinder. She watched as items flowed through transparent pipes, dozens of minecarts with chests as they rapidly traveled across the railing above.

They met up with Ivor, who was in another room that contains the End Portal. "Quickly, in here!" he shouted as he jumped in, everyone else doing the same.

It was then Jess saw the bleak, empty void that surrounded her like the endermen. Carefully, they made their way to the fountain that was created after the Order 'defeated' the Enderdragon, in front of Soren's home.

"I still can believe he built a home in the End." Jess said, amazed at the sight before she continued with her objective.

Jess placed four End Crystals equally around the base of the bedrock fountain. Finally, Jess has to put down the egg on top of the pillar in the center of the fountain. "Remember Jess, once you put it down, run!" Ivor shouted from a distance, standing by her minions.

Jess used [Leaping] to jump high enough so she can go over the pillar, twist, place the egg down and land safely on the other side.

The ground shook, frightening the endermen as they let out a screech in unison as they frantically teleported around. The beams from the End Crystals shot to one another, one at a time in a counter-clockwise order.

Suddenly, the blackness of the fountain coiled up with the egg, floating up, carrying the egg higher and higher as the fountain became empty. The crystals shot one giant ray of energy upwards, mixing with the egg and the black fluid until it became one solid, large, black cube; slowly rotating.

"Jess! Stop looking and run!" Ivor shouted in the distance, which was enough to snap Jess out of her daze as she quickly ran towards her one-eye friend.

It was then the crystals she placed down earlier suddenly exploded, sending out a massive shockwave that sent her flying across the land, damaging Soren's home as multiple beams shot at the top of the obsidian pillars, spawning new End Crystals.

It was then the black cube above started to pulse. Within heartbeats, cracks started to spread as bright, purple light shown through the cracks before exploding; revealing the Enderdragon in all its horror.
