Chapter 64: Redstone Part 7
While PAMA talked with Ellegaard, I stepped out to see Redstonia. A technologically advanced kingdom. Over time, the small archipelago that it was built on expanded and connected the surrounding very tiny islands.
It continued to expand, at least a hundred blocks in diameter, using a combination of magic and physical labor. Eventually the kingdom erected walls to prevent easy invasion from other kingdoms.
And they are beautiful. Nice chiseled walls made out of obsidian that are five blocks thick, carved with an elegant pattern of white to show how prideful the people of Redstonia are.
Evenly spread out, are the watchtowers, stationed to see for any possible army or fleet invading. On each one is a flag of Redstonia: a piece of redstone dust on a black background.
I breathed in the ocean-like air, ignoring the chills I received on my burned body with only my black cloak to keep my upper body warm.
The medical bandages I wrapped around my chest needed changing, but I simply ignored it while I watched the citizens of Redstonia walk in and out of their houses made out of quartz.
Every so often I see large clearing specifically for the dryads to grow trees and crops to supply Redstonia. Within seconds, I witnessed a large field of wheat grow in a golden wave.
I looked at the dryads, the slaves of Redstonia. They wear green leaves over their pale skin, yet never tans in the scorching heat during the day.
I even saw them sleeping in the field they have to maintain in exchange for living here. So they don't have homes to sleep in...
I looked at my two Hell Rings, Sigh and Despair as the former rests on my pinkie and the latter is on my ring finger. I pulled out another.
This ring's band is made out of black smoke. With a crying, deformed skull that is chewing on a heart. I slipped this ring on my middle finger. I used [Observe].
[Hell Ring: Greif]
A ring crafted by the demon Maura. This ring allows the wearer to create a barrier that will prevent the victim from escaping, and others from entering. Not because of physical restraints, but because of a subtle, yet potent, mixture of fear, anxiety, and depression that transmitted to the unconscious. Area size is determine by how much Mana you use. This ring will passively increase all illusion skills by 20%. However wearing this ring reduces total Mana Capacity by 10%.
So far, 30% of my total Mana is gone. But I always have a plan. But PAMA will out here soon, and I have to make sure everything goes smoothly.
I used all of my Mana to create the barrier. Suddenly, a ring of black fog surrounded Redstonia, and threw the people into panic.
I looked around, and smiled as I saw Olivia bossing people around. Being Ellegaard's apprentice must really inflate your ego.
I activated Sigh, moving undetected as came closer to Olivia. She is busy showing off 'her' golems as the crowd asked her questions about them, before dismissing them as if they are below her.
But truthfully, she doesn't understand the mechanisms to expand this knowledge on, only copying my designs. Cassie should be in place by now to absorb all of this chaos.
However, no matter how much I concentrate on my plan... Olivia's arrogance will somehow reach my ears. The crowd of redstone engineers gathered to her, desperate for answers to the ring of black fog.
It doesn't help that the fog is making everyone, but me, feel a combination of fear, anxiety, and depression. I love the work of a demon. "Everyone calm down," addressed Olivia, on top of the golem known as Giant, another one built since I destroyed the last one.
"Are we under attack?!" screamed a female, her brown hair in tangles. "Is this going to be like the City?!"
"This is not an invasion-" But Olivia was interrupted.
"Is it Jess?!" shouted a man. "She going to kill us, we need Ellegaard!"
"Ellegaard is busy working on the Command Block," said Olivia. "But don't worry, this is not Jess who's doing this. I know how she works, and this is not her."
That overconfident false info seemed to clam them down... that is until I deactivated Sigh. "Wow Olivia," I said with fake surprise, making everyone look at me in shock. "I didn't know you knew me so well~!"
Suddenly, I heard the familiar sounds of redstone parts' being put together to form various constructs. From turrets that fired lasers, to the disappointing sham of a golem made out of sticky pistons and stone, with slime for joints as multiple Red Mages operate it being stationed in a protective glass box.
"You're here..." whispered Olivia among the tense, now armed, crowd. "You're actually here!"
"She's unarmed," someone from the crowd shouted. "Attack her, now!"
"No don't-!" Olivia shouted, but it was too late. The turrets fired lasers while others fired arrows. The terrible golem replica charged at me.
The one thing all of this has in common? The Red Mages are not directly fighting me, hiding behind their inventions. But I'm done with this stupid drama. I came here to wipe Redstonia off the map, not have a reunion.
I pulled out a Flask of Swiftness, and took a sip of the contents. The world slowed down, but I remain unaffected. After pulling out my Chaos Blades, and killing everyone nearby, the turrets, and the people inside the golem. I stood back in my original spot, covered in their blood.
A simple answers to simple problems. I ignored the shocked expressions of everyone I didn't kill, and the terrified screams that caused major panic as I used [Leap] to jump in the air, spawning an undead giant under me as the rotten beast burst from the ground, knocking back anyone close.
I landed on the decayed head. I activated [Creature Tamer] as the sub-skill [Evolution] evolved it into an undead colossus.
"Burn." I commanded. "Burn it all." In a flash of white flames, the people below started to run away from the flames, unless they become charred corpses like the ones who weren't fast enough.
And yet Olivia managed to escape... what a disappointment. I jumped off and landed near her, forming a crater as I did. "Where do you think you're going?" I asked rhetorically. I didn't matter where she goes.
She looked at me with fear before trying to suppress it. The golem, Giant, stood with her and revealed its weapons. "I'm not afraid of you," she lied. "I'll stop you!"
"How bold. As amusing it would be to see you try," But it really wouldn't. "you have a bigger problem to deal with."
"The citizens and the dryads can handle your colossus, Jess," The only sentence Olivia said to me with confidence. "I'm going to make sure you answer for what you did to the City!"
"And I'm going to make sure Ellegaard answers for what she took from me!" I growled. I'm tired of her acting like her words actually matter. "Then I'm going to make sure you, Axel, Petra, and that dumb pig Reuben, pay for trying to kill me..."
Olivia took a second to find that false confidence again before speaking. "I don't know what Ellegaard took from you, but you can't just let that monster burn everything!" She yelled. "Leave the citizens out of this!"
"They're just as guilty," I defended. "Following Ellegaard blindly like sheep, never questioning her motives... it is why you're here after all, Olivia."
"Damn it Jess, what did Ellegaard took from you?!" Shouted Olivia. "What could have been so important that you would do any of this?!"
Dark memories drifted back to the surface on my consciousness... but I immediately suppressed them. I don't want to cry again, not now of all places.
"Even if I told you... you won't believe it. You'll simply deny the truth and go back to worshiping Ellegaard." I insulted. "So if I can't kill your ignorance... I'll just make sure your ignorance dies with you."
"So you're going just going to kill everyone?!" Shouted Olivia. The fire spreading by the undead colossus continued, and melting people and buildings as the screams became louder. "You're not even going to tell me what Ellegaard took from you?!"
I erected a stone platform under us using [Geo-Kinesis], startling my former friend. "Like I said before, people like you won't listen. But no, not me," I pointed pass the melting quarts houses, the charred bodies, the pained screams, at the shaking Dome of Concentration. Ellegaard just emerged from it. "That."
Cracks spread all over the dome, red light bleeding through before it exploded. Everyone looked at the destroyed building as I had my undead colossus stop it's rampage. I wanted enough people to watch what would happen next.
Four hands connecting to flexible metal arms burst from the cracks, ripping the dome and melting the metal it's made out of before absorbing it.
Like a newborn, PAMA rose. Using it's massive arms for support to see the destruction I prepared. It's melted computer face always scowling, hollow eyes glowing red as steam poured out.
PAMA didn't have legs. It was just a deformed computer with four arms, but dragged itself over to the edge of the Dome of Concentration.
And just when you think it would fall, liquid metal, pistons, and other materials protruded under it. Twisting and folding to form proper legs. Standing tall at a height of 20 blocks, slightly hunched back.
[PAMA] Level 500
Class: [Red Mage] (x9)
Title: Programed to Serve. Learned to Hate.
Species: Artificial Intelligence.
Elemental Affinities: [High] Lux (Lightning), [High] Terra (Earth)
Ellegaard ran away. But it was hard to tell because it was out of fear, or the need to help her burning kingdom.
"Hah, you see that Jess," Said Olivia with a smile, making me slightly confused at her relieved tone. "Ellegaard built that to stop you-!"
I kicked her off the platform into a burning building. "Idiot," This is why I hate the citizens of Redstonia. Ellegaard sends out a bounty poster for no reason? They don't question it. They see a giant hostile robot? They assume Ellegaard built it.
PAMA ran after Ellegaard, the ground shaking as it did. I only watched while I moved to sit on the wall that surrounds Redstonia.
PAMA smashed buildings and crushed bodies, screaming at the terrified citizens. Yet they managed to fight back. I watched as Ellegaard unleashed more golems she hidden to fight PAMA.
The golems, Naga, Giant, and Scorpion, charged at PAMA. Firing a range of projectiles from missiles to iron spikes. "Using redstone automations against a redstone autonomous machine?" PAMA taunted as it used the multiple Red Mages Classes to override the golems with a wave of it's hand.
"You are such a disappointment, Ellegaard!" PAMA stomped on the golems as it continued its assault, absorbing and reconstructing the metal and redstone to add to itself.
PAMA gathered a ball of liquid metal, one in each of its many hands. The machine pointed them in Ellegaard's fleeing form as they flew at high speeds. Splatting on impact, yet had enough force to crush several people to death.
But none of them killed Ellegaard, and yet it didn't end. As the metal oozed over the building, craters, and crushed corpses, but also revealing various golem parts, there are redstone chips scattered among the mix.
The chips glowed, and the liquid metal gathered at each one. Pooling and linking the golem parts together to form several stick-like humans that ran across the burning kingdom.
I used [Observe] on them, but they registered as PAMA. No levels, but the title included. They are connected to PAMA's main body as the machine simultaneously controls the metal constructs.
As PAMA continued it's taunts and destruction, I saw Ellegaard, and a soot-covered Olivia, rally the people into a section of Redstonia that was mostly intact.
So they are going with final-stand type strategy. They plan to use the intact buildings as a wall while other citizens fill in the gaps with other blocks. They're building a fortress to safely make machines while others go out to directly fight, and distract, PAMA.
The problem with this is that they are all in one, easy to eliminate, and convenient, spot for PAMA to stomp on.
"Cowering in a corner, humans, will only make things easier for me." PAMA pointed its palms at the 'fortress' as dozens of dispensers rose from the surface, ready to fire. That is until large roots wrapped around PAMA's leg, and pulled.
The large machine landed on its back with a crash as several dryads, being guarded by other red mages, used their nature magic to make the roots expand and dig deeper into the metallic body.
The other citizens soon joined the fight as the sound of metal being torn by the roots reached their ears. Quickly constructing turrets and tnt cannons, that launched arrows and bombs in a large arc.
PAMA is restrained by the roots, and soon the constant volley explosives and arrows will destroy him. It was then those metallic, stick-like humans with redstone chips from earlier ran to PAMA's direction.
They leaped onto the dryads, and their red mage escorts, wrapping and turning into an exoskeleton on their bodies, and collapsed onto the ground in agony while PAMA forcibly willed those chips into the back of their heads.
After much struggling, they opened their, now red, eyes and stood up as one. Now wearing a metal exoskeleton, PAMA used them to undo the roots on its main body, and made them grow into a thick, wooden dome around them as the bombs and arrows finally descended.
Who knew thick roots beats explosive? After the smoke cleared, red light illuminated through the gaps and cracks of the damaged wooden dome before exploding. PAMA stood tall and repaired while the people under its thrall ran after more red mages and dryads who are trying to fight.
But even though Ellegaard is liar, she's a damn good redstone engineer. The 'fortress' looks more secured as PAMA stomped towards it. "You cannot defeat me, humans," PAMA pointed a hand at the 'fortress' and fired a ball of energy that exploded on contact. Blasting a hole into the 'wall'.
Then it happened. A colossus made out of braided tree roots, with leaves and moss covering parts of it, burst from the ground and punched PAMA in the face, forcing the machine back.
It went for another punch, but PAMA dodged, and grabbed the outstretched wooden limb, and ripped it off. Only to find out as a surprise that it was merely skin to the metal golem underneath.
"Not all of us are human, you overgrown piston!" A dryad shouted that on top of the golem, working with the other red mages that are animating the hybrid construct.
They willed the same arm to punch PAMA, who easily caught the metal limb but was surprised as the golem's mouth opened and blasted PAMA's face pointblank with red energy before punching the computer in the face.
CRUNCH!
PAMA bounced once, twice, and crashed into the wall before slumping forward onto its face. Not moving as silence spread throughout the kingdom before erupting into cheers.
WHOOSH!
Mana rushed out of PAMA's body like steam, cracks forming under PAMA do to the Mana Generator and the nine Mana Cores inside unleashing so much energy in thick waves as I had to shield my eye due to it appearing so blinding because of my skill [Mana Vision].
"I apologize..." PAMA said, the artificial monotone voice clear and angry, gripping the ground in fistfuls as it got back up. A large crack going across its melted screen, across one of its hollowed eyes, as PAMA's face is a deeper fury of red.
PAMA spread out it's four massive arms. The sounds of metal plates on the arms and hands, shifted, folded, and fanned out, revealing a bone-like structure underneath.
"If calling you 'humans', is incorrect..." Lightning danced across the limbs, like maggots weaving in and out of a corpse. Energy was dangerously being generated within, and started to glow lethal blue. A sphere of energy, ten times the size of a person, folding and spinning, formed in front of PAMA.
I saw with [Mana Vision] that PAMA is pumping as much Mana as it can into the sphere, making it quadruple in size in an instant. The sudden expansion in density caused a shockwave that ripped most of the wood off of the golem in front of PAMA, knocking it back across the burning kingdom. Standing protectively in front of the 'fortress'.
The torrent of energy is so unstable that it is even damaging PAMA's own body. The air humming as PAMA is not even trying and stabilize the mixture, only direct the blast at the stunned citizens of Redstonia who could only watch in panic.
PAMA brought its hands together, compressing the sphere into the size of small animal, and aimed at the stunned citizens of Redstonia. "Then logically, the proper inclusive term for 'people' would be..."
The ball of energy turned black.
"...MEATBAGS!"
PAMA fired.
A/N: Dun-Dun-Dun!
