Chapter 61: Redstone Part 4
"Y-You!" screamed Ellegaard while Olivia was in shock. "How did you get in here?!"
"Simple," I nodded at Olivia. "She let me in."
Ellegaard turned to face her former apprentice, mouth open, and ready to yell at Olivia. Only to freeze in horror as she saw Olivia's eyes glow a deep red. I brought a burnt hand to my chin. "Well, I say 'her' but 'it' is more accurate... right, PAMA?"
It was then I watch 'Olivia' throw Ellegaard across the room, crashing into her advanced crafting machine; the very thing Maura, my demonic merchant, told me that I would need to repair PAMA.
But the truth is, I didn't need Ellegaard's 'advanced' crafting machine to bring PAMA back online. Seriously, it's only four crafting tables being pushed together towards the center by pistons; I can easily recreate that machine.
And it wasn't hard to discover what the advanced crafting machine looks like either since Olivia brags about it. All I had to do was eavesdrop on her when I was inside the City.
So I built the crafting machine, placed PAMA in the center and the complicated parts, needed to repair it, on the other faces of the crafting tables.
But, to me, that wasn't good enough. So I installed a Mana Generator in the mix, giving PAMA an alternate source of energy.
I even included a metal slab with a rune on it that contains the skill [Metal Manipulation], and 9 Red Mage Mana Cores. That way PAMA has more control over redstone than even the strongest redstone user.
But PAMA was still in its singular cube form. It lacked mobility. It could talk, but it couldn't reach its full potential.
There was also the problem that I compressed 9 Mana Cores into a small space, making them collide into each other and generating more energy. I didn't want another repeat of the hybrid I unleashed in Boom Town.
So I built a golem replica of Olivia, with PAMA's small, original cube body hiding inside it. Piloting, and controlling, the artificial body I made.
Then I simply snuck into Redstonia, my skill [Stealth] aiding me as we breached the Dome of Concentration, with the aid of my Hell Ring: Sigh. All I had to do was use [Metal Manipulation] to move the iron blocks on the roof to create an entrance, and seal it up as we went inside.
Then I created drama between Ellegaard and 'Olivia', and get the override code since Ellegaard's A.I. has no control over the Dome of Concentration.
So here I am now, looking as 'Olivia' walked towards the computer terminal. Ellegaard got up from the ground. "Calvin," she shouted. "Intruders! Protocol zero!"
"Protocol zero, initiated." Replied the A.I. "Releasing security golems."
Then I saw the constructs appear. My constructs. The same golem designs Ellegaard stole from me, slightly tweaked for Red Mages, and then promoted it publicly as if she invented it.
But that's not why I'm here. She took something from me that was worth so much more. I saw the same golems: Naga, Giant, and Scorpion appear from the shadows of the room, dropping from the ceiling, or simply walking though the entrance of Ellegaard's workshop.
I could have PAMA override the golems since they are under the influence of Red Mage magic. I used [Observe] on the A.I. to see that Calvin is using some kind of frequency. It would be interesting to see that happen... but I'm done playing around.
The golems surrounded us. I watched as Ellegaard try to secretly run towards the exit. Magnus had one exit to his kingdom. Ellegaard has one exit to her workshop. It's ironic that they have so much in common, yet they hate each other.
Another thing they have in common? They both pissed me off.
"You arrogant woman..." I growled as the golems closed in on us. I used [Metal Manipulation] to forcibly rip all of the golems apart. It cost me most of my Mana, but I can regenerate it back. I used the same skill to bend the armor Ellegaard is wearing by forcing her legs together; the sudden restraint caused her to fall onto the hard ground.
I dragged her back as she yelled at me to let her go. I threw her into the middle of the room of scattered golem parts. I looked at the woman who took something precious from me. Since [Observe] is no longer restrained by my previous quest, and it's already at max level, I can see so much more.
[Ellegaard] Level 400
Class: Vitalizer
Title: Redstone Legend
Species: Human
Elemental Affinities: [Low] Terra (Earth), [Low] Lux (Lightning)
Ellegaard is a redstone genius, a member of the Order of the Stone that broke up over the lies they told the world of how they defeated the Ender Dragon in combat, but really used the Command Block.
By telling the world a false story, they purposely excluded Ivor so no one knows about how he protested against the idea, or believe him if he ever tried to expose the truth of the Order of the Stone
Ellegaard is responsible for: sending out a bounty against Jess, scorching her body, taking her left eye, disassembling her shrine to Notch and Herobrine, stealing (and damaging) the pendent her deceased stepmother gave her.
But most importantly, and tragically, Ellegaard took-
I didn't bother reading the rest of the description ; I already know what she took. I don't want to be reminded. Ellegaard's level is lower than Magnus, yet she still claims to be better than him. Plus she has low elemental affinities, and her stats show that she's physically weak. What a disappointment.
"You stole my golem designs, and claimed you invented it," I said as I walked towards her. "You sought to kill me, Ellegaard, but you only motivated your assassin."
"I didn't do anything wrong!" she screamed. "I was doing the right thing by trying to get rid of you!"
I kicked her in the face. "If you try and crawl away..." I leaned in close to her bruised face. "I'll slice the flesh off of your arms, and shove the remains down your throat."
I leaned away as she tried to punch me, the attack missing completely as I kicked her in the chest. The armor Ivor made her is durable, and I'm going to rip it off her after I'm done here.
"You just wanted to keep your secret hidden, you fake." I said as 'Olivia' walked towards the computer terminal... and punched the screen, 'her' arm deep in the circuitry.
"You're nothing but a prideful engineer and a sad excuse of a woman," I insulted as she looked away from her computer to glare at me. "You stole my golem designs!"
"I put them to good use!" she defended. "I made sure those redstone constructs are used for good!"
"I didn't invent golems to be used with redstone," I revealed, much to her surprise. "You just assumed that since it's complicated, or mechanical, you automatically think that it's a redstone contraption!"
"Then what did you invent them for?" shouted Ellegaard, trying to act as if she's winning the argument. "Something evil?!"
"A personal project of mine," I said as red electricity started to crawl over PAMA's body, and into the computer terminal. "But I took a break from it... especially since you taught Olivia how to craft my golems. Not to mention her using them during the Tournament."
"Olivia revealed the golems publicly?" said a shocked Ellegaard. "They were supposed to be kept a secret!"
"Yep, she bragged about them." I confirmed. "She claims to be smart, and yet she couldn't figure it out that I'm the true creator of golem crafting. Even though I was hinting it... or maybe she simply denied it."
"But that's not the worse part." I added. "Now that people know golems can be customized, the kingdoms that are waging this war, other factions, cults, and other people will try to craft their own golems for their own sick purposes."
"Are you happy Ellegaard?" I rhetorically asked. "You just 'invented' a new weapon for people to kill each other, and your apprentice revealed it publicly."
"I had nothing to do with that." Said Ellegaard firmly. "Olivia is the one who released the knowledge of golem crafting!"
I pinched the bridge of my nose, closing my eyes in frustration. "Now you shift the blame to your apprentice... See, this is the problem!" I snapped. "Your pride, your arrogance, your desperation, and defensive personality are the reasons why I know you won't listen to me, or regret your actions!"
"I don't regret what I did to you!" she spat. "I'll say it again, I did the right thing for what I did and took from you!" I felt something snap inside my head... my sanity? I found myself lifting her up with my burned hand around her throat.
"You tried to kill me." I started listing. "You burn my body. I lost my left eye. You stole my golem designs. You destroyed my shrine. You even stole my pendent; the only thing I have left to remind me of my dead parents..."
Her eyes widened in recognition. "I... didn't know...!" she coughed out.
"No, you didn't. But you don't regret it either. You're only saying that because you're at my mercy. So say your words carefully," I warned as I squeezed my hand tighter around her neck. "I deeply care about my parents, so if you say something rude..." I slowly started to crush her throat.
Ellegaard struggled to breath, but she managed to spit out an answer. "Then... just take... the items... and leave...!"
"I'm not here for those," I managed to lift her up a bit more before slamming her back onto the ground. "But I will get them later."
I stomped my foot on her chest. "I'm here, because despite all of the things you took from me... you stole something much, much more valuable."
I walked off of her, shaking my head. "But you won't listen to me. You won't regret it. You won't listen no matter how much I yell at you... So if redstone users are the only people you even bother to pay attention to," I gestured to the computer as 'Olivia' collapsed onto the ground and broke into a mess of mechanical limbs and parts. "You have the honor to talk to the ultimate redstone creation."
The whole dome shook. The glass pipes that connected to Ellegaard's item request system are overflowing. All of the scattered golem parts started to move again if the eye glowing a dark red is any indication.
PAMA is reactivating the golems since Ellegaard crammed so much redstone technology inside them as the artificial intelligence forced them to drag themselves back together.
PAMA must have a sick sense of humor. The golems are nothing more than tangled masses of limbs, dragging back and forth from the computer to the item request system.
It was then PAMA started to use Mana Generator, the Red Mage Mana Cores, and the rune that contained the skill [Metal Manipulation] by ripping apart the golems back into their primary parts.
PAMA willed the parts onto itself using [Metal Manipulation], adding and improving the computer terminal and itself as it added the items from the item request system.
Metal twisted and bent. Obsidian was chiseled to fit. Gems of valuable varieties were implanted along with the golem parts. Yet it continued to grow.
The black screen became huge! There was so much components to upgrade it, and took up so much space that I had to separate Ellegaard's legs so she could crawl back.
Even now, I watched with morbid interest as mechanical arms welded more parts into the growing technological mass. Crafting more items while the redstone dust on the screen, that represented the A.I. Calvin, started to fade into something new.
After it flickered out, all of the remaining limbs folded into the computer before smoothing out. So here I was, looking at the biggest, and most advanced, computer that existed.
I had to look up a bit to properly see PAMA's face: two vertical lines for eyes, a horizontal one for its mouth, and both glowed neon green. Its expression was blank before it turned into a smile.
"Greetings, I am PAMA." Said PAMA, the face glowing in sync when it speaks in it's monotone voice, the pitch altering with the tone. It's face then turned into one of embarrassment. "Although I do apologize for the intrusion, I had to make improvements in order for your computer terminal to be compatible for me."
"PAMA?" questioned a panicked Ellegaard. "What happened to Calvin?"
"Gone." PAMA replied a simple fact, much to Ellegaard's shock. The face became blank. "I broke down the A.I.'s programing and absorbed it to gain access to the data banks. Such a fortune of information."
"What are you?" asked Ellegaard, cautious and afraid as I watched. "You're an artificial intelligence, that much is obvious."
"I am Prototype Autonomous Management Agent, PAMA for your convenience." PAMA explained. "Unlike your A.I. Calvin, whose purpose is to assist you, my job is to be useful... or I should say, former job."
"What do you mean by 'useful'?" asked Ellegaard. "That seems like a broad spectrum of things to do, and it does sound like 'assisting' someone."
"You are correct." PAMA acknowledged. "Truthfully, I was made to assist my creator in her tasks, no matter what they may be. She gave me consciousness so I can observe, learn, and adapt. I even learned how to express emotion."
It was then a surprised Ellegaard looked at me. "You invented PAMA?" But I didn't answer; she would just say a sassy remark.
"Your question comes from a misunderstood first impression." PAMA explained. "You assumed that Jess created me since she brought me here. She reactivated me from my dormant state after my master disposed me."
"Disposed?" said Ellegaard, her tone was full of sympathy for the computer. "But you said you are conscious."
"I am." PAMA's face became sad. "I was abandoned. Alone. Forgotten. It was because of my isolated, I learned a very important emotion. One that I value above all else."
"Emotion?" Ellegaard asked, interested in the computer's answer. "What emotion would that be?"
"I... learned..." PAMA's face turned a crimson red, scowling at the redstone engineer. "HATRED!"
A/N: Dun-Dun-Dunnnnn-!
Bet you weren't expecting that answer~? I finally get to write one of my favorite MCSM characters! Sorry for not updating, this took a lot longer than I realized. And thanks for the positive feed back, votes, and most importantly the interpretations and guessing with the events in the story!
So some questions remain. What did Ellegaard steal from Jess? What will PAMA do? What does Redstonia look like now? Are there other species? Anymore info on dryads? And many more people have asked.
And, my favorite, Where da heck is Lukas? Seriously, I thought people would question that a blonde, minced corpse disappearing would cause more comments but... eh~
