Chapter 52: Puppets Part 5

"Remember the rules folks!" he shouted in a cheery tone. "Only one may get the prize! So bet, watch, and cheer on for your favorite competitors!" he yelled as the crowd erupted into cheers and claps.

"But as you know, we'll have break." Said the announcer. "The last two competitors will be placed in separate, isolated areas to avoid any outside influence while they plan out their fight."

With a clap of his hands, Gill found himself inside an isolated room with a digital timer that's counting down from 60 minutes.

He sat on the bed, taking in a deep breath before yelling in frustration; punching everything he can see as he flipped the bed over.

After about ten minutes, his tantrum subsided into deep breaths as he sat on the iron floor, gripping his hair as he was sweating with anxiety.

'What do I do?' he mentally asked as he started to cry. He glanced at the clock to see there was still 30 minutes left.

Jess is in the stands with that red-haired girl with the calico cat. Even though he can't see her face, he can only image her disappointment, and her sadistic smile of what she'll do.

Aiden is in prison. Lukas quit. Maya is dead. Ana is sick. And he's still alone... who still has to fight Jeimass!

He watched her fight, and how painfully everyone died because of her. Sure they respawned, but it was horrible!

There's no way he can beat her. This whole plan is ridiculous! He can't do this... he needs to quit while he's ahead...

----------

Jesse and Petra are sitting on their own chairs, watching the battlefield change as they look through the clear glass window in the medical wing.

"I didn't see this coming." Admitted a saddened Petra. "We had the numbers, the magic, but we still lost."

"I know what you mean," said a sad Jesse. "I just hope Gill can win this, we already lost so much."

"Well, it's not a total lost." Said Petra, smiling. "Your Class evolved into something more powerful, not to mention you can control metals now."

"I'm still an amateur, Petra." Said Jesse, smiling at the Petra's attempt to lighten the mood. "I can't even summon an elemental guardian-"

She cut him off. "You don't need a guardian to prove your worth, Jesse." Sincerely said Petra. "You don't need a fancy, complicated tool to show how strong you are, you just need to be the best at being you."

She then turned around to look at their redstone friend, Jesse following her gaze. "... although I can't speak for all of us." She commented as Axel soon rejoined them.

"She's looking over her redstone golem designs... again." sighed Axel, pulling up a chair to sit with them. "She still paranoid over what Jeimass said to her earlier."

But he didn't mention how easily Olivia dismissed him when he tried to help, making a comment about how he's not smart enough to understand the problem.

"... I bet the only reason she hangs out with you is so she has someone dumber than a cow to compare her intelligence to..."

"... Don't you get it Axel? She's only with you so she feels superior; you're nothing but a boost to her ego..."

Maybe what Jess said to him in Boom Town wasn't an insult, but the simple truth. Axel might not be a genius, but he isn't a moron either.

The problem is complicated, but the solution is simple: Olivia lost and cannot accept it.

She's simply arrogant.

----------

Jeimass was teleported to the new battlefield, and thankful that she is wearing her hooded cloak.

She was standing on her own platform of ice as Gill stood on his. Both platforms were floating on top of a lake as the whole battlefield was flooded.

She looked at the water, estimating that it was at least ten blocks deep. The cool mist making her bloody bandages on her face moist. She could have changed them, but she needed something to stop the bleeding.

She looked at her opponent.

[Gill] Level 270

Class: Warrior

Wearing standard black leather armor with iron plates. Not to mention the ocelot face he has on the back of his armor; a black tower shield in his left hand, and a crossbow in his right.

Not to mention the wool doll he has on his belt...

Still, he looked nervous. Which is ironic for Gill considering how arrogant and confident he usually is.

She felt her right eye throb with pain, but simply let it go. There are more painful things than a black eye in life.

The announcer's voice boomed. "Alright- now is the final fight! Gill versus Jeimass!" The crowd went wild, especially Cassie.

But not because of the fight, it's because she will finally get rid of the person sitting next to her left. She looked to her one-armed companion, the two Hell Rings on her ringers as she's wearing a hooded cloak; totally covering her face and most of her body.

'Soon...' Cassie thought excitedly. 'I'll get rid of you, and I'll have fun when I do it!'

She'll do that later though, it will happen after the fight. But all of that excitement for a bloody fight was gone in an instant when Gill opened his mouth.

"W-Wait," screeched Gill. "I give up!"

The crowd was stunned as it took them a few seconds to register what happened. Gill, who is part of the Ocelots, champions of the Tournament, who has overpowered items, just surrendered?!

Even his opponent, Jeimass, had a surprised look and could only say one thing. "...what?"

----------

"What?!" Screeched Petra as she stood up, her chair falling to the ground from the sudden movement. "Did he just quit?!"

"He didn't even bother trying?" whispered a disbelieved Axel. 'This is the guy that used to push me around?!' he thought before cracking his knuckles. "When I get my hands on him I'll-!"

CRUNCH!

Everyone stopped yelling as a huge jagged crack spread across the large glass window. They followed the crack to its origins.

Jesse, his fist imbedded into the glass with such force. He ripped it out, not caring about how bad the cuts on his fist are, and he walked to the teleporting rune inside the medical wing.

"Jesse," said Axel. "where are you going?"

"..." he said nothing as he stopped and turned to face his friends. "... the Tournament is over and we need to go down there and get our prize."

They wanted to argue that they got third place, and only got some diamonds as a result of their position of victory. But then it all clicked, like a puzzle fitting together.

Jesse doesn't want the diamonds. He knows that all the competitors, form third place and up, will gather down in the center to host an award ceremony to give out the prizes.

Gill included. But Jesse knows he can't attack Gill out in the open. So he'll just wait for the right time...

... and when that time comes, Gill will wish he kept his mouth shut.

----------

"And now- our first place winner, Jeimass!" said the announcer, the crowd applauding. Her name appeared above in giant, solid golden letters "Here's your prize!"

He handed over the bag full of nether stars to Jeimass as she ignored the looks Jesse's group gave her. "But if you don't mind, how did you win, despite the odds stacked against in your favor?" he asked.

"It's called hard work." Said Jeimass, ignoring Olivia's scoff. "I don't believe that levels and magic is a way to measure someone's skill."

"Care to elaborate?" he asked, intrigued.

"How can I explain this...?" she thought, putting a hand to her chin. "Olivia is a higher level than me and used redstone golems. But I only used shards of metal that was left behind, and my Mana threads, to beat her."

"But didn't you use elemental guardians to defeat Jesse?" asked the announcer. "Kind of defeats your argument about hard work..."

"Jesse is an Elementalist, who can move the ground at will, control metals, and is a higher level than me." stated Jeimass. "So if levels determines who's stronger, then why did he lose?"

"I worked hard." She continued as everyone listened. "I trained to control an elemental guardian. I carefully crafted my golem parts and brewed the poison that I coat the weapons in. He simply relied too much on magic."

"Wow... you know, I'm the one who does most of the talking, but those are some great words." The announcer acknowledged and started clapping, and soon everyone in the audience clapped to her words of wisdom.

Well, everyone except Jesse's group as they were full of despair; knowing that they lost an opportunity to get what they wanted.

But Gill? He was trying not to shake in fear from the cold stare Jesse is giving him.

Olivia however, was glaring at Jeimass, still unable to accept that she lost to her. Axel tried to comfort her, asking what's wrong, but she said that he wouldn't understand; another silent insult to his intelligence.

Ouch.

"Actually," said Jeimass to the announcer. "Is there a rule to give the prize away?"

Everything went silent as everyone looked at Jeimass with wide eyes. The announcer shrugged and gave her a smile. "I don't see why not."

"What is she doing?" whispered Petra, uncomfortable to raise her voice above a whisper.

"Probably going to show off or something..." insulted Olivia, still angry and flinching from the glare Jesse gave her as Gill let out a relieved sigh. At least those eyes aren't focusing on him.

But Olivia looked away when Jeimass came to her. "Did you say something?" she asked Olivia, referring to what the redstone engineer said earlier.

"N-Nothing." Olivia stuttered.

"So you have guts to insult me behind my back, but lack the courage to say it to my face." Analyzed Jeimass. "You really are like Ellegaard, except that she brave enough to say those kind of things upfront."

Olivia was furious... but Jeimass was right. The insults and words died in her throat. But the one thing on her mind: 'Why are they not helping me?' she thought to herself as she saw her friends looking at her, but not intervening.

All of them had a look, curious to see how this would play out. Well... everyone except Axel.

He looked, ashamed?

But was it at her, for some reason she cannot think of, or at himself, for not intervening?

She didn't know. But it was most certainly not the former! There's no way her husband would be ashamed of her! Even if it was, what could it possibly be that she did that earned it?

She's the smart one who's also the genius in the relationship while Axel is the gentle one who cannot understand anything above average. She knows because she would always remind him.

Jeimass shook her head in disappointment, then turned to Jesse, and held out the bag of nether stars in her left hand. "Here," she said. "you can have it."

"Really?!" said a surprised Jesse. He coughed in his hand. "I-I mean, thanks."

"You fought well," complimented Jeimass, handing over the nether stars. "you actually gave me a challenge, and I can make improvements to my golems now."

Despite that, Jesse still felt uncomfortable. "Are you sure you want to give these up?" he asked. Even though these were the key items to get his daughter back, maybe even his sister, he needs to be certain that this girl is sure to give it up.

It's not his fault he's like that, his moms raised him to be a gentlemen.

"I'm sure." She nodded.

Jesse gave her a hug. "Thank you," he said, letting her go. "you have no idea how much we appreciate this!" At those words, Petra, Axel, and even Olivia, thanked her.

But Jesse still felt uncomfortable... considering he gave her a black eye. "Hey, uh, I'm sorry," he apologized, rubbing his head sheepishly and glancing at her bruised right eye. "you know, for punching you in the eye with a metal fist and all..."

"It's fine." She waved him off. "You need the nether stars more than me. After all..." She attached her Mana threads to her floating name above, still glowing in golden victory as she pulled it down.

"... you need them to get Jennifer back, right?" she revealed, tilting her head to the side. "Maybe even your sister, Jess?"

Everyone went silent at that, eyes wide. "... what did you say?" whispered Jesse, unknowingly dropping the bag full of nether stars onto the ground as the contents spilled out.

"Did I stutter?" sarcastically asked Jeimass. "Or do I need to spell it out for you?"

She pumped Mana to her threads that are still attached to her floating, golden name as the name itself turned black.

JEIMASS

First, her name split into three parts.

J EI MASS

The letters 'e' and 'a' switched.

J AI MESS

Then the letters 'i' and 'J' switched.

I AJ MESS

"No way..." said Jesse and voicing the thoughts of every silent and stunned observer watching the event before them unfold.

Axel was getting nervous. Petra and Olivia's eyes widen even further. Gill was shaking in fear. But Jesse simply froze and watched as everyone saw with wide eyes as the letters 'j' and 'm' switched.

I AM JESS

"Hello brother," greeted Jess with a smile as she took off her grey hood and bloody bandages off her face. "It's been a while."

A/N: To be continued!

Yes, plot twist~! I thought people would figure it out already, but I think you can see why I'm taking a longer time to update this story, a lot of planning is needed.

But anyways, new follower! Dragon_Shadow_1324! For you, here's a cracker! [::]

Also, I've been wondering. Anyone watch that show, Star V.S. the forces of evil? Should I do my own dark and repulsive twist on it?

Oh, and before I forget. The person that sent me a message in my inbox, not going to say who because I'm not mean like that, who told me that they're uncomfortable with this story and that they hope I'll go back and change it?

I'm not doing that. If you think this is dark, the RWBY story that i'm publishing soon will be much, much worse.

Still, I do appreciate the feedback. So thanks! :)
