Chapter 47: Appearance

"And I'm tired of ignorant trash like you..." Lukas growled, and fired the glowing spear. An instant later it shattered the potion mid-air and shot through Isaac, impaled him, and firmly planted into the burnt grass.

It was then the spear that impaled Isaac started to glow, and every spear that Lukas fired started to shake, and then every spear in the battlefield flew up in a graceful arc before slamming into Isaac's body.

A second later there was a scream, and the sickening splat of a dead body. Lukas stared at the pincushion formerly known as Isaac as he stood casually in the forest fire.

Isaac disappeared in a puff of smoke, respawning as Lukas grabbed all of his bloody spears and placed them back in his quiver.

He won.

Already, his armor started to heal his wounds as he casually sat down on the burnt ground; waiting for the announcer to arrive.

When he did, and announced Lukas the winner as the stunned crowd hesitantly clapped for his victory. He teleported Lukas to the competitor box, and everyone gave him a look, but he didn't care.

If it was one thing he learned from Jess, it's that people's opinions of you don't matter because that's all they are: opinions. In another way of saying it: "Stupid words that are empty as they are pointless."

So Lukas stood by himself, watching the large battlefield change into a desert, and erasing the damage he and Isaac caused.

Meanwhile, Gill was filled with rage. He wanted to confront Lukas about his lack of empathy for Maya's death, and that how he's so damn casual about it!

But Lukas wouldn't care, in fact, he would just counter Gill's rage by pointing out the fact that he and Aiden lied about what happened in the Twilight Forest; bad-mouthing him behind his back.

So he did what all bad friends do: sulk and blame. Sulking because he lost his friends, who are practically family in all but blood. Blaming because he thinks that its Jess's fault. That's partly true, but he failed to realize that he, Aiden, and Maya, started all of this.

Who's fault is it? The bomb that killed people, or the person who set it off?

The announcer started talking. "And for our next match," he pulled down a floating name from above. "Gill, versus..." he pulled down another. "Lukas!"

The crowd erupted into cheers, eager to see the fight and drama unfold before them. But then Lukas pulled out a slip of paper from his inventory.

It flashed for a brief second, words appearing as he quickly read it before tearing it in half. The torn pieces combusted and turned into ash. "Tell them I forfeit." He said as he walked towards the teleporting rune. "I'm done here."

Jess just sent him a message, and told him to quit the Tournament. Maybe if he was selected to fight Jesse's team, weaken them, then he could stay longer, but he was unlucky to fight against the person he's supposed to aid.

Oh well, it doesn't matter to Lukas. He's getting paid, and now he can finally be done with seeing his former friend, and everyone else.

"Lukas wait," Said Jesse, but Lukas ignored him. "I know my sister sent you to help Gill reach the finals, but there's something I need to know."

Now that got his attention. He stopped for a brief moment to glance over his shoulder to stare at the man who blamed him for three years. "If it's about her location, I don't know."

"No, I know she wouldn't give away that kind of knowledge. I just want to know what is she like?" Jesse asked. "What kind of person my sister has become now?"

"Why are you asking me?" asked Lukas, raising an eyebrow.

"You've been with her longer since she was finally found after all of these years." Said Jesse. "If anyone has a sliver of what kind of a person she is now, it's you."

"... moron." Said Lukas.

"Hey, that wasn't necessary-!"

"No, Jesse, moron is the only word you can describe yourself if you go anywhere with your sister." Said Lukas, much to everyone's surprise.

"...?!"

"Your sister is the most complicated person I've ever met. What ever she was before, it's gone." Said Lukas.

"Is she really that bad?" asked Olivia, worried at what Jess has become. If Axel's interaction of her kept Olivia awake at night, then what horror with Lukas's description will bring?

"Look... she's not a bad person, but she isn't a good person either." Lukas replied cryptically. "She's like a corrupted angel that exploits our flaws and then torments us, or a demon that's compassionate and analyzed our personality to a point where she knows what we'll do next."

"We know," Said Axel, depressed and ashamed. "She fooled all of us more than once. I thought she would still care but-"

"She does care," interrupted Lukas. "but she's full of hatred and pain... I don't know what caused her to be like this, but what ever it was, she's not your friend anymore."

Jesse sent a mild glare at his friends.

"She has a weird metaphorical view that people are chemicals." Lukas continued. "That they all look like water from a distance or as the appearance, but deep down they're something completely different; like an ill intent or a hidden, selfish reason, or ignorance."

"And it's hard to ignore what she says, or her body language, or the silent lessons she burns into you memory with her fighting because it's true." Said Lukas, remembering her words as the rest of Jesse's group listened in shock.

"In the end, she knows everything and you know nothing." Admitted a slightly scared Lukas. "All the new and frightening things in the world that no one has ever seen, she knows it like the back of her hand."

"It's terrifying in more ways than one, but you don't have a choice once you spend a second with her because everything changes. Every truth you know is a lie, everything you do know is nothing but an assumption of your own ignorance and stupidity, you see the world differently as you see everyone else as idiots."

"All you can do is follow her and pray to whatever god is listening that you won't stop listening to her, because the second you don't, the second you doubt her, is the instant you can die."

He then took off his chestplate, and the cloths underneath, to show the massive, vertical scar across the center of his chest. "I learned that the hard way, but other people don't." he said sadly.

"What happened...?" words fumbled out of Gill's mouth.

"When we were in the Twilight Forest, some people from the Kingdom of the Forest tried to capture her. I tried to reason with them, against her advice, and in the end she was right. They didn't listen, they tried to kill me, but what she did to them... it was beyond brutal."

"She only injured them, only because I pleaded her to do so. I thought they would back off, and leave us alone, but they came back with more people. They blamed us, saying that we ambushed them and tried to rob them, even though they attacked us first."

Lukas still remembers how Jess literally flipped the ground under them as she summoned lich tyrants to slaughter them all after she ripped out their Mana Cores. He remembers her sacrificing the survivors to the ur-ghast atop of its tower.

He even remembers the kiss she planted on his cheek before punching him in the face, knocking him out, and leaving him stranded atop the ur-ghast's tower. He remembers when he got to his new home, she broke into his house, and found out where he lives, as she left dozens of chests filed with rare materials; his payment.

"In the end, she only had four words for me." Said Lukas.

"What were the words?" asked Jesse, hesitantly, and using his imagination to fuel the image of what carnage his sister caused.

"She said: I told you so." Said Lukas. "So... that's the type of person your sister has become. She's complicated, angry, independent, cunning, and manipulative. I don't know why she keeps hiring me, even after I screwed up in the Twilight Forest, but all I can do I play along."

Jesse was stunned. He really couldn't believe what he's hearing. Is he naïve to think that his sister would be the same?

"Well, Lukas-"

"I'm not done." the blonde interrupted. "I got something to say to you Jesse, something that I've been meaning to get off my chest." No pun intended as he put on his armor again, covering the nasty scar.

"Jesse, I know you still blame me for what happened at the funeral, but you need to stop. That isn't you." Said Lukas. "You're better than that, it's probably why Jess respects you, probably the only person in the whole world she cares about, and if she saw you like this, holding your rage and hatred, she won't see you as her brother. She will look at you like a puddle of water that needs to be evaporated."

Jesse was stunned and confused. But glad that deep down, his sister does care about him, and maybe it's not too late to bring her home! But Lukas has a point, he did something bad and now he will fix it.

Jesse just let out a tired sigh, suddenly feeling empty and exhausted. "Lukas... I'm sorry, I'm really am sorry for blaming you all these years. I always thought that it's the leader's fault for the actions of his followers, but I was wrong." He said gently and calm, sending a mild glare at his friends as the shifted uncomfortably under it, recalling how he used to blame himself as his friends revealed the truth of what they did to Jess. "It wasn't your fault, it was his and his friends." he said, pointing at Gill who flinched at that.

Of course, that would have happened if Lukas didn't interrupt him.

Jesse met Lukas's gaze, and let out a tired sigh, suddenly feeling empty and exhausted."Lukas... I'm-"

"I don't care." Interrupted Lukas, walking towards the teleporting rune, not even facing him, or his friends, or Gill, anymore. "It's been three years since that happened Jesse, and I don't want your forgiveness anymore, or your opinion of me, or anyone else's opinion as well."

He stepped on the rune. "I just want to be alone, and away from all the judgment."

BLIP!

In a flash of light, Lukas then teleported out of the competitors box; out of the coliseum, and officially quitting the Tournament.

Everyone's gaze lingered on his previous spot until they turned their attention back to the announcer, just receiving the news that Lukas quit. But Gill stared at the spot a bit longer than anyone else, remembering what he lost.

"It appears, Lukas, has forfeit!" said the announcer, causing the crowd to 'boo'. "Now, now, calm down. I'm sure he has his reasons, but he still gave you all a great show! So please, give him a farewell clap!" and with that the audience erupted into cheers. That announcer guy is really good with persuading a crowd.

"Now, for our next fight...!" he pulled down a name form above. "The late entry, Jeimass, versus..." he pulled down another. "The Order of the Pig!"
