Chapter 4: King and Peace
One month later
Jess crouched low as she stalked through the forest, wearing a black cloak that covered her entire body as she wore a wither skull over her head. Her only revealing feature is her green eyes, shining as an emerald but cold as ice. Today was a special day, after preparing so much, and doing so many quests, she almost has enough Divine Points for a certain item.
While Divine Points are used to purchase skills, they can also be used to buy items, but only if you are following a god. It is only then that items are available for purchase.
For the past month, she has gathered over 1000 Divine Points, saving them up as she has done many quests for her gods. Yes gods, a plural, as in two. She pledged to serve both Notch and Herobrine!
She couldn't choose between the two, how could she? Notch gave her the compassion she craved, while Herobrine didn't judge her for her bloodlust. So she simply picked both, they are opposites, but not impossible to work with.
So she started doing quests for them. Quests for Notch involved peaceful things, like farming or animal nurturing. Quests for Herobrine involved actions, like killing a hundred zombies or killing a man when she went mining. It wasn't her fault he died; he shouldn't have tried to rob her near a lava pit.
So for doing it for about a month, killing mobs, animals, and people, she not only gained over a 1000 Divine Points, she raised her level from 39 to level 67.
[Jesse]
Level 67
Exp: 5400/6700
Title: N/A.
HP: 107/107
STR: 22
DEX: 57
VIT: 40
INT: 21
WIS: 28
LUK: 40
Points: 2
Divine Points: 1188
Ivor told her to spend her points on VIT, WIS, and LUK, as he trained her to increase her STR, DEX, and INT. Ivor is a strict teacher, but it's hard to deny the results of it.
During the month, she purchased the skills [Divine Loot], which gives her a chance to gain Divine Points when killing enemies, and [Divine Reward], which gives her 1 Divine Point as she levels up. What's even better is that as the skill level increases, so does the amount she gains.
[Divine Reward] (Passive) level 12
When you level up, you will gain 12 Divine Points per level increased.
So far, it's looking good for her, and she will only gain more when she becomes stronger. But she has been saving up to buy a certain item from Notch, and she'll do it later after this event. Sometimes she would please one of them, and sometimes she would please both of them. Today is one of those times.
It was then she finally emerged from the forest into the desert, her minions in tow. In front of her, about a 50 blocks away, was her target, a large kingdom that is surrounded by two walls. Within the outer wall are the houses and citizens; in the inner wall are the castle, the royal guards, and most importantly the king.
Jess and her minions changed their clothes, they all wear cloaks to blend in with the desert, but still wearing their diamond armor underneath. It took a whole month, and a lot of close calls, but she managed to get full diamond gear for her minions, even for the spider. It was easier with the help of her skill [Mining].
[Mining] (Passive) Level 20
This skill determines how efficient you are in mining. Mining speed is increased by 200%. Items dropped from ores are increased by 200%.
While she can mine ores twice as fast, she is still slow. Her having one arm makes it difficult to properly use a pickaxe. At least she has a ton of coal, redstone, and diamonds now.
They quickly ran across the desert until they were up against the wall. Looking up, they say a hue of torchlight passing along the wall, the guards patrolling across the wall. It was after an hour of memorizing the patrol pattern is when they started to scale the wall.
Jess had her spider quickly carry them up the wall. It was then they quickly ran on top the 5-block-thick wall, to the front gate, making sure to eliminate any guards they come across, and picking up things from their inventory when they die to leave no evidence.
When they finally made it to the archway, above front gate. Bones shot an arrow as Jess and Hulk threw axes at the guards who were managing the controls for the front gate. She looked outside, down the wall to see that there are five guards inspecting the dozens of large chests of that belonged to about a dozen other people. They were wearing adventuring gear, tired and irritated, as they had to wait.
Jess managed to eavesdrop them. "C'mon already, do we really need to do this? It's so late." A girl complained.
"You know the rules." It is a guard this time. "All items harvested for the kingdom must be inspected, then transported to the castle."
It was then after one of the guards gave the 'all clear' to one of the large chests. A big guard, who is big as Axel, carried the chest, without breaking it, through the front gate, set it down with two others, and walked back outside to inspect another large chest.
Why didn't she think of that? If she could pick up chests without breaking them, then she could save so much room in her Inventory! She'll have to do it later though.
She used her recently bought skills [Commander] to send mental orders to her minions. 'Bones, Legs, you two are going infiltrate the inner wall to the castle. Here is a Splash Potions of Speed and Invisibility. Remember, they can't see you, but they can hear you.' She ordered as she gave them the potion. Yes, potion, as in one. Ivor made it using the potion knowledge contained within the book Famine. The effect will last for hours, granting both speed and invisibility to whomever it affects.
'The castle has its own royal guards, elites warriors to be exact. Half of them are for the day shift, so they should be in the barracks asleep. Kill them silently, even the ones patrolling. When their items are dropped, put them in this."
Jess then tied an enderchest to the back of Legs, causing Bones to move up a bit to make room. The enderchest is linked to the one back at the base, the temple where Ivor and her have been staying.
That enderchest has a hopper at the bottom, funneling the contents into a large chest. That large chest has two hoppers leading to two separate large chests. And those two have two hoppers as well, leading to other large chests and so on. It looks like those chats about redstone with Olivia paid off after all.
'After you are done killing off the royal guard, meet us outside the castle doors, I'll unlock it. Now go!' she ordered. Instantly they threw the potion on themselves, making them invisible. Jess could see with her skill [Battlefield], on the 3D map, something only she can see, she could see them quickly making their way across the area to the inner wall.
Now the skill [Battlefield] only works when Jess is fighting. But when she is stealthily picking off her enemies, it counts.
She turned to her zombie, Hulk. 'We are going to get inside the castle using those large chests' Jess pointed to the ones inside the castle, pass the guards inspection. 'When we are inside, we loot everything we can, kill all the guards inside, and let Bones and Legs in. Now lets go!' she mentally ordered as they slide down the ladder that the guards use to get up and down the wall.
After making sure the coast was clear, they walked to two separate chests. The first one Jess emptied into her Inventory, Hulk climbing inside as Jess did the same to another one. After an hour of waiting, Jess saw on her 3D map that the chests, with her and Hulk in it, were being quickly being carried to the castle.
It took them about 30 minutes to reach the castle. Jess could hear the guards complaining about how heavy the chest are. Mostly directing the one she's in. 'I'm not that heavy!' she mentally screamed.
After looking on her 3D map, the royal guards took over. Carrying the chest inside the inner wall, signaling the guards inside the castle to open the doors and closing it behind them. They carried the chests deep below the castle, and into the large storage area.
They were unaware that an invisible, speedy spider jockey was quickly killing off the royal guards patrolling the top of the inner wall. Shooting them in the head, killing them instantly as they picked up the evidence of the recently deceased guards, and placing it inside the enderchest. After that they scaled down the wall, silently picking off the guards who were patrolling around the castle, striking at the perfect time to gather the dropped items without being caught.
It was easy since Jess was using her 3D map to her advantage, letting them know when and who to strike. With no one else around, them moved on to the barracks.
In the caste's storage room, deep below underground, Jess and Hulk silently left their chests. They looked around at the dozens of large chests in the room, but they will get back to it later. They quietly walked up the stairs into the main area of the castle; the Throne Room.
To their left was the large, iron gate of the castle, basically the front entrance to the castle. To their right are three thrones that belonged to the king, queen, and prince.
On the side of the thrones are stairs that lead to the upper levels of the castle, and all around them were 5 guards in the room. There are two with their backs to the front gate. There are three facing the front gate. The other 5 were on the upper levels.
Improvising, Jess sent a message to Bones and Legs, making them knock loudly on the front entrance of the castle.
Bang-Bang-Bang-Bang-! "Alright, we heard you!" a tired guard and his partner walked to some levers, pulling them down, causing the large gate to slide up, revealing no one. "What the heck...?" they walked, and stopped under the gate, looking for the person who knocked.
Meanwhile Bones and Legs walked inside the open gate, still invisible. Bones got off of Legs and walked to the levers for the gates as Legs crawled to the ceiling.
A second later, Bones flipped the levers back up, causing the gate to drop on the two guards, leaving a red stain on the ground as they turned into smoke.
The three guards on the stairs were shocked. "Go upstairs and alert the-!" he didn't get to finish what he said because an arrow landed in his eye, killing him instantly as a spider pounced down from above attacking the second guard.
The third one pulled out his sword... only to get a diamond axe to the face. After he turned into smoke, Jess and her minions looted their gear, worked their way up the castle, picking off the rest of the guards until they reached the kings chambers.
They broke down the door, startling him awake. "W-Who are you? How did you get here? Guards!" he shouted, getting out of the bed. "Guards?!" he yelled again.
"No one is coming for you, King Sand the Third." Jess said, formerly acknowledging the ruler of the kingdom.
[King Sand the Third]
Level 32
"They're all dead... just like you." She dashed across the room, pulling out a diamond longsword, and ramming it into his chest and pinning him to the wall. She then took off her wither skull on her head, sat on the king's bed, and watched him slowly die.
After he turned into smoke, his possessions fell on the floor. He only had his wedding ring, his robes, and a necklace on him. Jess grabbed them as she put her wither skull back on, looted everything in the castle from top to bottom.
From the art, to the jewelry, to the armor on the stands, the armor stands itself, the thrones, and every valuable block. They even went back down into the storage area below the castle and looted everything inside the chests, which filled up the enderchest on Legs' back and the large storage system Jess made back at the temple.
Jesse pulled out a clock from her Inventory, showing that she had a few hours left before the sun rose up. They quickly made her way back outside the castle where there is a tunnel that leads into the mines with multiple locked doors. Inside, Jess found out why this kingdom has so much materials to supply a large population, even though only a few dozen at best go outside to gather resources on a weekly basis.
It's because they use slave labor.
She looked at the scared, hungry individuals who were down here for who know how long, except for Jess as she used [Observe] to gather information. They all looked at her and her minions with fear.
Jess walked up to a man huddling in a corner, no one stopping her as she pulled out a loaf of bread and gave it to him. "Here," she said, giving him the bread which he hesitantly took. "I'm not here to hurt you, I'm here to get you out. All of you." She said, turning her attention to the other slaves. She and her minions quickly passed food to everyone, releasing them as she threw Splash Potion of Hyper Regeneration, also made by Ivor, on those who need it.
Afterwards, she gave them all crude pickaxes and shovels. "If you want to escape, there is an abandoned mine that leads to the surface. It is about 210 blocks that way." Jess said pointing in a direction.
She left to find one last thing, the main reason she came here. After they walked back inside the castle, into the Throne room, and to a hidden 2x2 iron gate. Jess put the necklace of the king in a nearby chest, and after hearing the familiar sound of pistons and redstone, the gate opened and reviled a red book, framed on the wall. Jess took it down and used [Observe].
Book: War
Considered the weakest among the Harbinger series. Created by the Old Builders to efficiently manage and supply all combat. This book contains advance warfare knowledge.
Jess put the book in her Inventory, but also pulled out a sky blue banner that resembles the ocean, and planted it down in the Throne Room.
She gathered her minions close together, and used a Splash Potion of Teleportation, transporting them to her room in the back of the temple. Where she took off her cloak, armor, and wither skull, and placed it on an armor stand. She then walked to her bed, lay down on it, and pulled out Conquest; opening it to the quests section.
Quest: Liberation, has been completed. 30 levels of Experience have been rewarded to you and all Party members.
Bonus Objectives completed.
You killed all of the royal guards in the inner wall. 10,000 Experience and 20 Divine Points have been rewarded.
You looted all of the valuables. 10,000 Experience and 90 Divine Points have been rewarded.
You planted false evidence that might start a war. The book 'War' is now loyal to you and you alone.
You lead the slaves to a sealed, abandoned mine filled with cave spiders. 10,000 Experience and 60 Divine Points have been rewarded.
Herobrine is pleased with your actions and rewarded you 400 Divine Points.
Notch is partially pleased, and slightly disappointed, of what you did with the slaves and rewarded you 100 Divine Points.
It took her a week of preparing, a week of traveling, and a week of scouting and planning but she finally managed to do it. It was easy getting there with the horses she got using [Creature Tamer], and she did left them back in the forest near the castle at night. If they make it back here, cool. If not, she can always get another horse.
But now she is tired, but satisfied. She'll check her levels, and her minions' levels, and buy the item with the Divine Points, tomorrow.
"Jess! Are you home?" Ivor shouted. "Where you the one who got me 30 levels because I am still in your Party? What did you do?" he loudly asked. Jess got up from bed.
"Yeah, I did!" she replied loudly, walking out of her room to greet her friend. "I'll be there in a minute."
She'll sleep later.
----------
After Queen Lily and her son, Prince Sand the Fourth, came back to the Kingdom of the Sand a few days later, but they were shocked with the news that the king is dead. They were even more shocked that the castle was looted. The queen nearly had a heart attack when an investigation was conducted and discovered evidence of slave labor.
It was discovered that the king and the king alone was secretly using slave labor, the queen and her son didn't know, but some people didn't believe that.
Then it started getting worse. They didn't have enough materials or labor to supply everyone, and some refused to work for the queen, believing that she had something to do with the slaves.
The kingdom had a rule that all materials harvested from outside the kingdom was to go to the castle for safe keeping, and then other workers will distribute the materials when they are needed.
However, since they couldn't get enough materials to maintain the kingdoms' basic necessities, and no materials to distribute or receive, the whole kingdom broke out into a civil war, blaming the royal family for their problems, and the fighting got so bad it rendered the kingdom useless.
So some left to find a new home, but Queen Lily and her son, the now King Sand the Fourth, stayed behind to rebuild with the citizens who stayed. They all had one goal: Kill the person responsible.
The only clue they have is a banner from the Kingdom of the Ocean, in the Throne Room. But it was enough to know one thing: This means war.
