Chapter 28: Twilight Part 1
Sometime in the far future
"Why don't you share your discoveries with the world?" Jennifer asked her aunt. "It could help so many people!"
Her aunt just shook her head. "It will only hurt more than it helps Jennifer; the same reason why every invention in history created with good intentions are weaponize."
"Evil?" Jennifer guessed.
"Abusing the power." Her aunt corrected. "Just like me."
----------
I had Blink empty the bloody prison cell, and bring the corpses of the dead griefers to a room I call the Freezer. A large area I dug out and filled with packed ice, preserving the bodies as they joined the rest.
I do go outside a lot after all, and that doesn't stop people from trying to collect the bounty Redstonia sent out against me. Who knew Ellegaard cared about what happened to Magnus?
So after I harvest my assailant's Mana Cores, I kill them, I bring their corpses here to the Freezer, stacking them on top of each other in rows as they're wrapped in bandages from head to toe in order to properly preserve their bodies.
The entrance to the Freezer is simply a teleporting rune I had Maura duplicated. I can't assign teleportation to the runes because I don't have any skills like that.
So while I can create the runes, I can't give it teleportation.
It cost me 122 diamonds for Maura to do his work, but it was worth it. I opened a door that lead into a 10x10x10 room that has teleporting runes all across the edges, all of them labeled. A room I dubbed as, the Transport.
I stepped on the sign labeled 'Freezer', and in disorientating second later, I was in the Freezer. Everywhere you see in this cave is nothing but covered with packed ice, a block that's cold and never melting.
After all, people are like water: they melt and evaporate so easily. I should know, I did it to so many people at this point.
I walked down the steps and mentally called Blink. After he appeared, I pointed to a pile of wrapped bodies. "Those will do, get them prepped and start the experiment." I said as he got to work.
"When you're done, come find me." I added as I stepped back on the teleporting rune.
After I left the Freezer, I put on my enchanted diamond armor, my cloak, and I doubled check to make sure that my necklaces are still on. All of them are enchanted with {Unbreaking V}. Apparently putting a thousand Mana into the enchantment makes it more powerful than the usual level.
Good to know, but it's because of this I had Blink prep the bodies for my next experiment, and if it works, my Mana problems will be over.
I brought the usual supplies with me: The diamond longsword that I neglected to enchant. A few stacks of obsidian. I put some diamonds, iron, gold, wood, and blaze rods in a chest in my Inventory. I even brought another chest full of food just in case.
Then there are the Chaos Blades. I upgraded them so that the blade is more curved and serrated. The hilt, and the chains connecting the blades to the cuffs clamped around my wrist, is now imbedded with obsidian.
I can now use my [Geo-Kinesis] to will the chains to retract and extend to and away from me up to 10 blocks. It isn't easy using them since the chains can easily get snagged on something, but that's why you practice.
Even with one arm, while difficult, is possible. I placed both cuffs, the shackles, onto my forearm willed it to coil around my left arm.
Finally, I had the Quad Dispenser on the left side of my hip, full of tipped arrows with the affect of a Potion of Poison.
While I do have many alchemist Mana Cores, I don't really think I need them, not yet anyways. Ivor was a good teacher after all. So to honor his teachings, I brought a chest filled with Flasks, containing a small variety of potion effects.
"I guess that's it then." I said to no one in particular. I went to the Transport and looked around until I found the rune labeled 'Twilight'.
I stepped on it and instantly appeared in a new area: the Twilight Forest. An unknown area of the world, mutated by Mana, as the creatures here are beautiful as the rest is lethal.
Like the lich I fought here, in its giant tower for example. But I wasn't the only person there when that happened, and there is a guarantee that I'll run into more people.
So that's why I have the Hell Ring: Sign, or Sign for smaller terms. I can will it to make me, not invisible, just an extreme version of being unnoticeable.
So with that out of the way, I started running through the mystical forest, looking at the weird and new trees and animals as I pass by, leveling up [Running] to boost my speed.
I saw a deer drinking by a river as fireflies gently fly around. I saw a ram with rainbow wool as it sleeps on the soft grass.
I heard the gentle breeze of the trees rustling as I saw the dozens of branches sway. It was then I saw an opportunity: a raven.
I saw the black bird in the distance, landing on top of an obelisk, as it's red eyes scanned the area. I willed the Chaos Blades to quietly unravel around my arm, trying my best not to scare away the bird.
Since I embedded obsidian into the weapon, I can easily control it with [Geo-Kinesis]. So I crouched low, the blades hovering next to my arm, poised to strike, aiming at the bird...
"JESS!" shouted a voice, scaring away the raven.
"No!" I shouted in anger. I chased after the black bird, ignoring the voice's calling behind me.
I kept my eye on the raven as it flew around the large trees. I ignored my surrounding as I focused on my task; I need to kill that bird!
I swung the Chaos Blades into a tree, ripping out a log as the enchantment set it ablaze. I whipped the blades, flinging the block of wood at the raven, only for it to dodge out of the way, and ended up killing a deer.
I continued to slice and dice every tree, mob, and animal in my path as I chased after the raven. I spun to the left, swinging the Chaos Blades and decapitated a few skeletons, but I still missed the bird!
I ignored the large amount of bones the skeletons dropped when they died and continued after the raven. I did an overhead strike, using my [Geo-Kinesis] to adjust the path of the blades.
Time seemed to slow down when it was about to hit the raven. But then an arrow came and hit the blades, knocking them into each other, and causing them to miss!
I saw with [Mana Vision] that those arrows have Mana infused with them. I checked on [Battlefield] that there are 4 people chasing me, but they are really far away.
I guess it's not too hard to follow me, considering I've been leaving a path of destruction on my wake. As a precautionary measure, I erected walls and pillars of stone behind me.
Hopefully that'll slow them down, whoever they are, until I kill the raven. I created a platform of earth under me, and made it glide across the ground as I activated the Quad Dispenser.
After a few minutes of frustration and missing, I jumped high into the air, shattered the platform and threw it at the bird, and rained down a hail of tipped arrows.
I don't know what to call it, but to me it was a miracle as I finally killed the stupid bird! Dozens of black feathers scattered, but I was looking for something else.
When a raven dies, there is a very small chance it will drop a rare feather. It's black with a shade of purple mixed in, and has a yellow outline.
But since my LUK stat is so high, I'm guaranteed to get one... dozen. I got a dozen of these! Why do I need them?
Well...
[Mystic Raven Feather]
It is a rare feather of the raven that inhabits the twilight forests. When applied to any sized blank map, it will near-instantly draw out the surroundings.
I grabbed them and put them in my Inventory. I was about to pull out a blank map and start the mapping process with the feather, but then I noticed something was off.
I finally paid attention to my surroundings. I am on top of a large hill, where the grass and trees are an orange color.
It was almost if autumn stayed in this one clearing in front of this hill forever.
It would be a nice place if it weren't for the pillars of fire spewing out of the ground. After using [Observe], I found out that there are small flammable gas deposits leaking towards the surface.
I guess something ignited the gas, causing a steady stream of flames to rise out of the ground. There is no Mana; it's just a natural fire.
But it's then I look at the hill I'm standing on, and I almost froze in shock. I can't see it as clearly as I should, because [Mana Vision] isn't at a high level yet, but I see enough.
It's huge, sleeping inside the hill. So the hill I'm standing on his hollowed out, and the creature is sleeping in it. I know what it is. It's a-
"Jess!" I heard a shout. I turned around to see four people, three guys and one girl running up the hill, at me. The girl is on a horse, and the blonde one is way behind.
"Guys, stop!" shouted the blonde- oh crud it's Lukas and the Ocelots.
