Chapter 18: Update
Sometime in the far future
"Auntie?" the little girl asked.
"Yes, Jennifer?" she replied, looking down at her niece.
She fidgeted under her aunt's gaze before taking a deep breath. "Why do people hurt each other?" Jennifer asked.
"Two reasons." Her aunt said. "They are angry and disappointed with themselves, so instead of fixing their own lives, they decide to make everyone else miserable."
"And the second reason?" Jennifer asked.
"Because they think they can get away with it, thinking that they're invincible when they get a taste of power, and unleash it on those weaker than them." her aunt replied without hesitation.
Jennifer didn't say anything for a moment, until she took another deep breath, and looked into her aunt's eyes; determined to ask the question that has been bugging her for a long time.
"Aunty..." Jennifer started, trying not to falter under her aunt's cold eyes. "Why do you kill people?"
"... It's because I'm simply too good at it." she said.
----------
6 months later.
I got up from bed, stretching as I let out a tired yawn, and walked towards the outside of my cave.
I look out and see the sun rising in the distance, the grey clouds overhead, and feel the crisp morning air in my lungs.
It felt... nice.
I had spent part of my time reading the basic summary of what happened in the three years that passed.
Mana. That one is the big question, so what is it exactly?
Simply put, it's a dormant energy inside everyone, even animals, and unfortunately mobs, and everyone has the power to shape it, wield it, and use it.
They also used it to kill each other.
Mana can be used as a weapon, or as a utility. It all depends on the person. So when this new source of power, that everyone has, that didn't stop the other kingdoms from weaponize it.
With magic, they could boost their armies, grow and harvest resources, and even research it.
Of course, with Mana being so abstract, and widely used, they categorized the magic user into a Class. Ranging from things to like Warrior, or Wizard, or other things like Conjurer and Illusionist.
Each person can study and train to figure out what Class they are, and focus on that type of magic.
A Warrior would be someone with great physical attributes while a Wizard would have spells to use. A Ranger is excellent with bows and crossbows. A Conjurer for example can summon things as an Illusionist can create... illusions!
Then there's my brother Jesse.
My brother got married and adopted a child because his wife couldn't bare one. He knew this, but still was able to make his marriage.
The child, a little girl, named Jennifer, was a victim of the ongoing war between the Kingdoms of the Sand and Forest and Ocean; or as history calls this war, the Triple Devastation.
Her parents were killed in the fighting, and she was left to die, but my brother and his wife saved her and took her back to their home; and I'm not talking about the tree house.
No, I'm talking about their house in the City. During the Triple Devastation, people spent the first year of this war on top of a mountain so huge that it went beyond the clouds. My brother and his family and friends were there.
And it was awful.
The scarce food supplies. The sad faces of lost children. The grieving cries of widows and child-less parents. The thin, cold air that made you lightheaded while you would freeze, and the thick tension and disturbing paranoia between everyone as they were all on edge from the horror below.
All of this; are the common symptoms of war. There was still monsters, even new ones since Mana was involved, and other sick and twisted people who wanted to hurt other people; thinking that they could since they have magic.
So they fortified their defenses, and united together, fending off the dangers from the outside. Eventually, more and more people joined, so they had to expand down the mountain, and eventually reaching the base and expanding from that, even building a wall of iron blocks that is 10 blocks thick.
It made it easy since Mana was involved and thousands of people are working together.
So now everyone was settling into their new home. Everyone was safe, defending, thriving, living, and most importantly, smiling.
They built creative homes, buildings of entertainment, and schools of both science and magic.
Sadly, this is where new problems start.
It is because luxury and security makes you forget the horrors of war... and breeds inner conflict. There are still disagreements, crime, and other acts that are deemed illegal that occur within the City.
But, to my surprise, Lisa, my sister-in-law, is the police, guards the wall, and leader of the Templars. What's a Templar? People who can negate magic, the perfect people to sort out any hostile magic situation.
Of course, people are now... edgy around the Templars. Who wouldn't be if there was someone who could be immune to your magic, and negate it with ease.
I never been to the City before, but I can't go there, not yet. I have way too much to do.
First of all, I had to level up my minions. There was Blink, my Mutant Enderman.
[Blink]
Level 60
Exp: 0/6000
HP: 300/300
STR: 88
DEX: 144
VIT: 240
INT: 152
WIS: 140
LUK: 8
Points: 0
When I first got him, the day I fought my brother, he had four arms, large hands, slightly hunchback, and half times bigger than the average enderman.
But then, after he reached level 100, [Evolution] was activated. And believe me, it wasn't kind.
He now has 8 arms, each of them have clawed hands and an eye on the palms. He is twice the size of an enderman as his knees now bend reversed.
But beside that, his head was horribly disfigured. His skull is showing from the exposed, melted skin, as he doesn't have eyes in his eye sockets. But he still has eyes, a hundreds of them, in his head.
Apparently the purple particles that surround him are micro sized endermen eyes, and that's the only way he can see as those eyes are visually linked.
Must be hard, but he managed somehow with his hundreds of different perspectives. But it must be nice not having any blind spots.
Still, his power is worth it. He has a diluted form of telekinesis. He can use his eight hands to pick up large chunks of blocks, compress them, and fire.
Plus with his ability to teleport large structures, and able to leave his many eyes in multiple places, he's a tough cookie.
Then there's my Elder Shulker.
[Box]
Level 60
Exp: 0/6000
HP: 340/340
STR: 132
DEX: N/A
VIT: 280
INT: 148
WIS: 140
LUK: 24
Points: 0
Not a creative name, I admit it, but frankly I don't care. Since his evolution, he now simultaneously fires dozens of bullets at once while his shell is still closed!
Plus he can also teleport on his own, so at least he can move without Blink teleporting him like before.
Finally, there's my ghast, Steam, who waited three years in the temple, and didn't gain a level. But after turning in some quests, he evolved as well.
His body is much smaller now, a 3x3x3 size to be exact. But in exchange, he's much more durable, can move much faster, and his body turned black with purple eyes and veins.
Sure he's level 30, but he can still kill since he can rapidly shoot fire charges now.
Besides my minions, I still need to level up myself. Sure, I'm now level 272, I could go buy another sub-skill for [Creature Tamer], but there are other people who are in the 400's! Guess my brother was right; there are stronger people after me.
It was because of that it is easy to level up... I simply had to step outside, have Blink teleport me somewhere, go for a walk, and have him pick me up later.
So it never takes long for someone to notice me as I still wore my usual armor, cloak, and wither skull. Usually, in this situation I should change my appearance so I can stay unrecognized.
But I can't hide the fact that I only have one arm, now can I?
I remember days when I really marveled in my work.
When I drowned a man in his own lava that he spawned with his Mana, I had his friends watch before I did the same to them.
I set a dog's head through the bow, and twisted it to wrap around its neck to choke it to death in front of its owners as they were both tied up against a tree. I left her and her sister tied to the tree when the rain was getting intense and poured for two weeks straight.
I coated my diamond longsword in poison as I wiped out an entire guild of bounty hunters. I watched as they struggled to overcome the poison and slowly die.
I went to a village that was planning to hunt me down, snuck into their farms, and fed the cows raw beef and fed the chickens raw poultry. They all died from eating their tainted livestock.
I cut off the limbs of people who think that they can subdue me, and throw them in a pit full of silverfish.
Then I used the limbs to train wild wolves to have cravings for human flesh as I unleashed them into the wild.
I used my [Geo-Kinesis] to burry a group of thieves, who thought they could rob me, underground... alive.
With the high amount of rare materials, even some that didn't exist before, that I gathered with my LUK stat, I crashed the economy in the Kingdom of the Ocean. It caused poverty that was fun to watch for a while.
It didn't help that I created a rebellion inside the kingdom to overthrow the current queen and king. It failed, but people still died, the Kingdom of the Ocean recovered, and still got what I wanted: the death of the king... and blamed it on the Kingdom of the Forest.
War would be proud if he was still here.
I led a group of adventurers into the labyrinth of a Minotaur, and had one of Blink's eyes watch them get loss in the labyrinth, as they died one by one to the Minotaur.
I tricked a group of people, who managed to capture me, that there is a secret treasure in a location... only to die in the crossfire of a battle between the Kingdom of the Forest and the Kingdom of the Sand.
Apparently three years ago, I don't know how, my Potion of Poison that I made look like a Potion of Healing, which I gave to Gill, somehow ended up in the Kingdom of the Forest, which the king gave to his sick son... do I really need to explain what happened next?
So I spent the pass 6 months, gathering over 500,000 Divine Points for what I need. Doing quests, killing monsters and people. I even used my skill [Alchemy] to make more Flasks of Healing to heal the wounded as I tried to keep a low profile.
Still, Notch and Herobrine are pleased with my work. All I need to do is seal the final details of our deal...
While I can use Divine Points, studying, and other certain actions to unlock a Class, it simply takes too long and is too expensive, so I asked for a compromise.
It took me months, but I finally finished my alter to Notch and Herobrine.
A large pyramid structure, with pillars equally distant from each other that surround it, capped with blocks of redstone. Every single block has runes chiseled onto every visible surface.
So after walking back inside the cave, I grabbed some dust made out of human bones and gunpowder, and filled in the grooves of the blocks.
Then there was one last thing. I pulled out a potion bottle from my Inventory that contained a sliver of Blink's eyes in it. "When you find them, get back here. It's time."
While I was waiting, I looked over my skills.
I maxed out my skills such as: [Leap], [Vein-Mining], [Divine Respect], [Divine Reward], and [Geo-Kinetic].
[Geo-Kinetic] (Passive) Level MAX
You can now move earth-type blocks using your Mana! You can move up to 1000 blocks at the cost of 1 Mana per block!
Even though it is maxed out, my brother is still stronger than me in terms of this skill. I simply lack experience, so if was to fight him using this skill, I would lose because i don't have a thousand Mana nor the training to use a thousand blocks!
But I still have my minions and my other passive skills to even things out if we fight again.
And speaking of minions...
Blink came back. He is holding the two key things that I need for this to be complete, both of them are sisters.
The same ones that I tied to a tree and strangled their dog to death, right in front of them.
The older sister is wearing a black cloak that covered her body as her younger sister is wearing white knights armor.
But it doesn't matter now. Both of them are near dead, unconscious as their equipment in ruin.
"Hold them down." I ordered as Blink used his limbs to restrain the sisters against the wall, facing the large alter. I then used [Geo-kinesis] to have the stone blocks wedge them into the wall, holding them in place.
But i'm not going to use them for the alter. I'm going to test the power i get on them.
I walk to the top of the alter; a blue screen is waiting for me.
Ping!
Would you like to activate the ritual?
"Yes." I say without hesitation.
Then I felt the pain. First my Mana then my HP, then my Divine Points as they were all forcibly taken very, very slowly as two days of agony passed by while the ritual was commencing.
After it was over, I felt a new power rush in me as I read a new pop-up.
Ping!
Ritual is now completed! Notch and Herobrine has given you the Class: Harvester! As you have this Class equipped for certain periods of time, you'll unlock more features!
Current abilities: [Grim Harvest]
[Grim Harvest] (Active) Level 1
This skill allows you to forcibly harvest Mana Cores from creatures! When they are harvested, that creature loses all Mana and the ability to regenerate it. You will gain additional abilities as you harvest Mana Cores.
I got down from the alter as I walked towards the two, now awake, angry sisters glaring at me. If looks could kill, I would be dead in a heartbeat.
I lifted my hand and activated [Grim Harvest] as hundreds of black, needle-thin string of Mana shot out from my outstretched hand, forcibly digging into them as they screamed in pain.
After a while, I ripped their Mana Cores out as my threads slowly retracted into my body, bringing the Mana Cores within me. One of them was pitch black and reeked of death. The other one was pure white and was full of life.
Ping!
You have gained the Classes: Necromancer and Paladin!
Now what to do with the sisters...?
A/N: Sorry, Jess isn't going to see anyone yet! I just wanted to explain what's going on in the world as Jess is being... herself.
Jess going to see someone from her past will be for the next chapter as i'm still trying to decide who she should stab- i mean 'visit'!
Her old friends?
The Ocelots?
The Order of the Stone?
Her brother, his wife, and adopted child?
WHAT DO I CHOOSE?!
Could you help me decide?
Also, new follower! Bluecobaltwolf! For you buddy, here's me crying- JUST KIDDING! That would be messed up!
