Chapter 1: A Dark Rebirth
2 weeks later...
Bash... Bash... Bash...
It was two weeks later, it only took 14 days for a single individual to become miserable, to become alone, for everything to go so very wrong.
To lose part of oneself, to stray the so-called 'right' path that only 'good' people follow. But it is a very narrow path. For when the 'good' people are shaken by the 'evils' of the world, by its inhabitants or by oneself, then they are easily thrown off the path.
Bash... Bash... Bash...
But it's not so simple to get back to the path of 'good'. This 'path' that people see is actually a narrow, never ending platform that slowly crumbles away as the raging, accusing, judging storm above waits above this platform to strike down at the cautious people walking down this 'path' of 'good'.
The storm does not strike people down, it does something worse... it labels. It labels what could be 'this' and what could be 'that', to a point where it eventually becomes what should be 'this' and what should be 'that'. The narrow path blurs with others 'paths', twisting and becoming a shameful shadow of its former self.
Bash... Bash... Bash...
It is then the 'good' path is nothing more than an opinion of the storm. Even then, after some time has passed, maybe a little or maybe a lot, the 'path' becomes divided once again, to become so opposite that it is practically black and white; becoming 'what isn't' and 'what is' respectively. And over time, it will simply repeat again, and the whole thing will blur into gray.
So it doesn't matter what you do, you are only what the storm labels you to be. But when you look closer at this 'storm', it's nothing more than little droplets of water gathered, united to try and be something whole.
Bash... Bash... Bash...
Yes... the horrible cloud above, the terrible accusing stares, is nothing more than the glances of the insignificant and weak.
So it is why Jess has taken it upon herself, to rid the world of this storm- no, a collection of moisture, a gathering of water... weak, tiny, prideful, horrible, and so fragile, droplets of water.
So she has little to no remorse for people, for individuals, these... drops of water. No remorse for their accusing, judging stares to label her, so she becomes what she wants to be. So it is why she was here, in this destroyed cave, bashing in skulls of people who live in this cave.
And doing it in front of an individual, watching with pain as he saw his friends die slowly and painfully in front of him, as he is tied-up to a pole with a cloth stuffed into his mouth to shut him up, forced to stand. Jess used very special book, which has a black, purple, and wicked design, which is hard like diamond, and a perfect blunt weapon for smashing skulls in.
Bash... Bash... Bash... Bash-Bash-Bash-Bash-Bash-Bash-!
She let the anger, the pain, and the hatred for these people slowly release as she increased her speed on the last. For what they did, for what they did to her.
BashBashBashBashBashBash-CraSplat!
And with that final hit, his skull caved in, then poofed into smoke as he finally died, the blood still remaining from him, and the 20 other people she killed.
She walked up to the terrified leader of these horrible individuals. She leaned in closer, their faces about 2 inches away from touching. "Do you remember me?" Jess asked, her green eyes boring into his soul. He shook his head, shaking as he did. "No? Five days ago, you harmed my friend. You broke into our home, our temple, looted everything inside, and left him on the ground, naked and bleeding." It was when she finished that last part, he was terrified, his past coming back to kill him as it killed his friends.
"Do know his name? The one you hurt? His name is Ivor, my friend, who saved my life. He helped me discover more about the power I now wield. He helped nurture me back to health, and for once, I felt safe... then you and your friends came along." She said as her anger was rising at that last part.
"He locked me in my room to keep me safe. But I saw what you did to him, leaving as you left him to die. I used all of the Potions of Healing I had available, but it wasn't enough to heal all of him. His left eye... was completely useless." She pulled out... a spoon?
"Do you understand? I spent days hunting you people down. My friend lost one of his eyes, and he has to turn his head just to see things on his left side... but that wasn't completely your fault. If I was just stronger, if he was stronger... then none of this would have happened." She then gently pressed the spoon against his left eye.
"So that is why I won't kill you... but I'll make you suffer." She then proceeded to scoop out his eyes with the spoon, jerking and twisting the culinary as his eye left his head with a sickening pop, and landed on the floor.
While he was still crying tears and blood, Jess pressed the spoon against his other eye. "You think that I was done?" she asked as she tilted her head and forcefully removed the other eye.
Wiping the blood off her book, her face, and her spoon, she then held up the book in front of her. "Have I proven myself?" she asks. "Not bad for a girl with one arm, if I do say so myself."
"YES!" the deep voice of the entity within the book cheered. "YOU ARE WORTHY..." the book started to glow purple, writing of incomprehensible letters flowed out of the book and into Jess as the full power of the book was granted to her. "... MY MASTER..." The entity added.
The book floated out of her hand, opening to a page where she read something that really interests her.
You have proved your worth as you now have the power contained in this book, named Conquest.
[Creature Tamer] (Active) Level 1
This skill allows you to tame and control mobs that will only listen to you and you alone unless you say otherwise.
You may only tame mobs:
- That is equal or less than your current level.
- Those have HP less than 10% of their total HP.
Current creatures:
-None
Jess couldn't believe what she was reading... this is incredible! To control mobs, like they were a pet or a servant, or even a puppet. The possibilities huge! It was just like that time when she was attacked by those wolves weeks ago, when she first used the book, she was given a temporary Wither to control... so what if she did that now?
To control one of the most powerful monsters in the world, one that can fly, and shoot skulls, and cause wither-sickness... and to only obey her and her alone. But then she realized how awesome this skill is when she noticed a small detail on this skill; there was no cost to pay, and no limit of tamed mobs.
Could she have an army of Withers? A legion of creepers? A haunting of endermen? Or maybe a swarm of ghasts?
And she could transfer the control of her enslaved mobs. So maybe she can give Ivor his own bodyguard, maybe a skeleton.
But she's getting ahead of herself, for now she'll stick to the simple things. She closed the book Conquest, walked outside of the cave into the night, and turned her attention to the wandering zombie.
'Perfect.' she thought with a smile. It was then she used one of her other skills granted by Conquest.
[Observe] (Passive) Level 1
You can now gather information on objects/people in your sight. Higher levels reveal more information.
She used the skill as her green eyes glanced over the monster.
[Zombie]
Level 15
It is one of the many undead creatures that have the endless hunger to harm the living. While slow, it makes up for it with its strength but weak to fire.
Level 15 huh. It wasn't too bad since Jess is level 19.
[Jesse]
Level 19
Exp: 1200/1900
Title: N/A.
HP: 29/29
STR: 2
DEX: 5
VIT: 10
INT: 4
WIS: 8
LUK: 10
Points: 38
Ivor really helped her survive, training her to become stronger. While this book granted skills, stats, and points, which was weird and yet powerful.
Simply put, Jess started at level 1. Her stats now is the same as it was before, she and Ivor realized that she could train herself physically and mentally to increase her stats, instead of using stat points she gained so she just saved them for later.
As she leveled up, her health increased by 1 per level, plus the +1 health she gets for every point in VIT (Vitality, health) stat. DEX (Dexterity, speed) determines how fast she is. So to train that stat, she simply has to run or other complicated body movements like dodging, or jumping.
STR (Strength, strong) determines how strong she is, and by the numbers, she's weak. It's no wonder that it took so long for her to bludgeon those people to death. She tried to train that stat, but it's hard with one arm.
INT (Intelligence, smarts) determines how smart she is as WIS (Wisdom, wise) determines how wise she is, how good she is at making smart choices. LUK (Luck) determines the loot she gets from defeating enemies.
Yes, she gets loot! Like weapons, materials, even other things. Those bandits she just killed? There are 10 iron swords, 20 diamonds, 2 blocks of iron, and a loaf of bread that was automatically dropped when they died, plus the other things they had on them, and the stuff that was spewed from their inventory, as the items were all transferred to her Inventory.
Not her inventory, her Inventory; a small pocket dimension where she can store 50 different items, and 100 of the same item, a powerful upgrade. Plus, there is even a tab that shows her equipment as she can use this ability to instantly swap armor on and off, saving time.
She can also do quest that the book provides, jus simple stuff like chopping down trees, to killing mobs, to other crazy things.
If she knew all about this stuff, all about this power, would she willing have her right arm cut off to gain this? Totally. But would she regret it? No!
So after closing the book again, she pressed her hand on the approaching zombie and activated Creature Tamer. It was then a light outlined the monster, before fading away as the zombie kneeled down in front of Jesse, completely loyal to her as she used Observe again.
[Zombie]
Level 15
It is a loyal, undead monster that only will only listen to Jess.
Sweet. It was a small start, but a start nonetheless. She looked inside the book to see that her skill Creature Tamer has slightly changed.
[Creature Tamer] (Active) Level 2
This skill allows you to tame and control mobs that will only listen to you and you alone unless you say otherwise.
You may only tame mobs:
- That is equal or less than your current level.
- Those have HP less than 11% of their total HP.
Current creatures:
-[Zombie] Level 15
Her skill leveled up! So would that mean other effects will develop if she keeps using this skill? But she read another text in the book.
Use this power however you see fit. Use this new power to become stronger as new powers will be rewarded as you level up... and do travel to other temples if you can find them. There is more than one book...
Man, this book can be creepy sometimes. But she needs to get another book, perhaps one for Ivor. He helped her, he didn't have to, but he did, and she is grateful. So she will repay in kind.
She put the book away in her Inventory, practically vanishing into thin air. "Get inside the cave... there's a snack for you inside." She gestured to the cave with her hand as the zombie went inside to feast on the poor individual inside. Jess didn't bother to learn his name as the screaming started inside.
She said that she wouldn't kill him, and she kept that promise, but her minion can.
A/N: So we are finally getting to the good stuff! Remember, feedback is great. I'll try not to cry to hard when i read them... (faint crying in the distance)
