Chapter 49
"DEIDARA!!!!"
You're unable to let go of that cold body and sobbing violently while hugging that body tightly. Why does everything ended like this? Why?! What did Deidara do that he deserves this? What?!
Sehoon get up on his feet and walked slowly towards Sasori who is still shocked with the incident. Sehoon really want to smash Sasori's skull open but Naruto quickly enter in the middle of them to block them from fighting.
"Stop fighting already! Can't you see what happened here?!" Naruto shouted at the both of them.
Sasuke quickly went over to protect his friend and glared at everyone as if he's saying that 'if someone dare to touch Naruto, I will slice their throat open'.
Sehoon is about to kick Naruto off of his sight but as expected, the Uchiha blocked the kick swiftly with one hand. Sehoon was so angry, "That's why I will put him into eternal sleep too! Deidara is my best friend as well! Get out of my way, Naruto!"
Naruto still didn't give up, "Can't you see what Deidara-san wants to do?! He wants to put an end for everything that he took his own life so the both of you don't have to fight anymore! Sehoon, you're one of Deidara-san's best friend and you, Sasori! You're his boyfriend! How could the both of you not see what is he fighting for?! He's the member of ToSho but he willingly join AkuTen because he loves Sasori so much and he believes he could do something for ToSho as well... Why don't all of you understand?"
While your trembling body is holding Deidara's corpse, a small keychain made or polymer clay with the shape of a bird dropped from Deidara's jacket. Naruto picked it up and both Sehoon and Sasori was in a deep silence.
"That keychain..." Sehoon mutter while taking it from Naruto's hand. "He's... been holding onto this whole time?"
After looking at it for a few seconds, only did you realize that bird has the same shape of your gang's logo which is sewn perfectly at your left shoulder.
"The real person who found this gang isn't me. It's Deidara. He's the one who gave the idea for making a gang which is so childish at first before everything..." Sehoon couldn't finish his words but you know what he's about to say. Its 'before everything finally change like a true black alley gangs'.
"At first, he said he wants to build a gang which will play pranks all day and hangout with the gang while riding a bike. It sounds peaceful. He even told me once that that gang moto is 'To always be there for others. Face every challenge together as a big family and protect each other'. And at the end...he really hold on his own words..." Sasori mutter but loud enough for almost everyone to hear.
When Sasori mentioned it, your memory came in a flash before you. The three of you are still the third year in elementary school and Deidara as always, bragging about his dream.
"You know what? I want to build a biker gang that can spend time as friends to just play around while riding our motorcycle! Protecting each other and play pranks all the time! It will be so cool!"
What did you say to at that time? Maybe, it sounded a bit like this.
"Wow! That sounds so cool! Deidara-kun, you always have a cool dream and ambition! C-Can I join you to make it true?"
This kind of happy and childish memory is usually funny if you recall it. But now, only tears can replace all the words in your head.
Out of the blue, everyone hears the police siren. Everyone look around but you don't really care.
"Aahh~ the fun is up, boys. White Dragon, let's go back." Their leader get up from his sitting place and all of that gang members follow his steps out of the scene.
Sasori clenched his fist tightly before finally say his command. "Akuma no Tenshi! Retreat now!"
Upon hearing that command, all of the members follow it without saying a word.
Now, it's only the ToSho gang and Sasori are left in here.
Sasori placed both of his hands behind his back and bowed at Sehoon. "I know you won't forgive me I still beg your forgiveness for what I done. In the one who started all this mess, let me clean it up. I'll shoulder Deidara's death and deal it truthfully." He's still inclining his upper body in front of your chief commander and you can see Sasori is trembling and one drop by one drop of his tears began to cascade down his face.
Sehoon turned around, "ToSho! Let's go back! Hurry!" He said and went to get his bike.
Sasori moved to your direction and said, "I'm sorry, (y/n). I'm the one who's to blame... I deeply apologize." He said kneel in front of you.
You didn't know how to react and you just shook your head, not uttering a single word.
"Go now, (y/n). The police is getting closer. I'll take care of everything."
Your eyes are clearly dead and underneath your visible eye is already swollen because of your violent crying just now. You carefully put down the body and stand up before going back to where you park the bike, along with Naruto and Sasuke.
You told Sasuke to ride the bike with Naruto while you will just walk home. He didn't say much and just do what you told him and in a flash already disappeared from your sight. You weakly drag your feet and your tears still want to pour out. You walk alone while pulling your sash to untie it and continue your journey to go straight home.
You look up at the clear sky and mutter, "What a terrible day..."
***
The next day was Deidara's funeral and Drako, Naruto, Sasuke and Sehoon visited Sasori at the police station that is still in questioning after the funeral ended. They told you that Sasori might face a 10 years sentence.
The next day, you went home very early. Of course, it's only you left in Art Club so it's the best if you went straight home. Fortunately, your father went home along with you since he's still worry about you. You didn't even speak a word after that tragedy and only eats a few bites a day and just lock yourself in your bed. He tried to make a conversation with you many times but you only reply him with just a nod or shook your head in denial.
"(y/n), tell me want do you want to eat. I'll make it for you! You know how a good cook I am, right?" He still wants to converse with you but you only nod at him in reply.
He sighed, wanting to give up and only give you a pat on your shoulder while walking with you home.
The look in your eyes are blank, expressionless but in your mind, a lot of memory that you're recalling right now. All of that about your friendship and Deidara.
"Hi! My name is Deidara. What's yours?"
"Let's play together, Hatake!"
"Don't be afraid. Kitten won't bite, see. Just pet it like this..."
"My dream is...I want to own an art supplies store!"
"There's no Art Club in this school?! How pathetic! (y/n), let's form one together! I'll be the president and you're my vice president. How's that sound?"
"With this money, I want to buy a lot of art supplies and make a lot of arts! Oh, I won't forget about the kittens too. Don't worry about it".
"I want to go home early today! Ka-chan promised that she will make bakudan for dinner!"
"(y/n), Sasori no Danna, come, come. Take one each. This bakudan onigiri is the best one you could find on this earth!"
"(y/n), no matter what, you'll have a special place in my heart."
"(y/n)... I really...have a craving for bakudan onigiri...right now..."
"Let's split it into...half, okay?"
"Thank you so much, (y/n)...my...best...friend."
"Bakudan...will be nice." You muttered.
Your father heard you and his heart was lifted a bit from his worries and pat your head. "Of course, my daughter. What kind of bakudan do you want?"
You think about it for a while, "Miso...and I want some rice too." You said and flash a weak smile at him.
He chuckled, "Of course you will get your rice..."
You nodded. "Um, I want to make some bakudan onigiri for someone tomorrow."
"Owh...sure."
During dinner, you don't talk at all and eat your food in silence. An awkward air was built up because of this but you don't realize it at all. You were eating that bakudan miso soup with a tint of sadness. Deidara loves all kind of bakudan...
No one expected a visitor at this hour but the doorbell for your house was ringing out of the blue. Your father look at you for a second before he stand up and saying, "Let me see who is it."
You were curious to know who is it too but you don't have the energy to take a look. So, you just wait at the dining table patiently. While waiting for your father to come back, he called you from the front door.
Without delaying any second more, you sighed and went towards him. When you're at the door, you were shocked to see who's the visitor is.
Deidara's mother!
"(y/n)-chan, I...I don't know who else I could give all these things and I know Deidara want all of his things to be passed on you as well." The woman in her middle age with her silky long blonde locks said to you. Her blue orbs radiates nothing but sadness. But, is there any disappointment in those eyes? She's handing you about three boxes that she took here with her car.
Both this mother and son resembles each other so much and you couldn't help to almost call for Deidara's name before. Thank goodness she talked first and upon you hearing her gentle voice, you know it's impossible for him to visit you now.
Without even thinking much, you hugged her tightly which she return it with a gentle embrace. She was sobbing silently but her shaking shoulder is more than enough for you to know that she's still can't move on with the death of her one and only beloved son.
"(y/n)-chan, thank you... thank you so much for being a good friend to my lousy son. He...he..."
You just hug her more while shook your head.
After a while, both of you release the hug and she reach out her hand and put something in your palm. You look at what it is and your eyes widened.
Your father noticed this too and quickly take it from your palm and shoved it back to the mother. "Ma'am, please...this is too much. Even if you don't have a use of it, you can just keep it. This must be one of what Deidara loves the most..."
She smiled and shoved it in your palm again. "Of course he loves his motorcycle so much. That's why I'm giving this to you, (y/n)-chan".
You look at the key for a long time, wanting to give it back but the woman keep pushing it to you.
"If I just keep it, it will become dusty and maybe malfunction one day. So, that's why it is better to be in your hands, (y/n)-chan. You know how to ride it too, right?"
You just nod and clench that key tightly in your palm. "Don't worry. I'll take care of this."
"Thank you, sweetie. Oh, and this thing..." She handed you a small red velvet box with a cute tiny ribbon on top of it. "I...bought this for him and..."
She didn't finish her words but smiles weakly before turning around to leave.
After seeing the car left, your father helped you to take those boxes into your room. Then, you sit on your bed, staring the motorcycle key in your palm.
You stare at it for a long time, starting when your father left for doing the dishes and now he's back in your room, sitting next to you by the bed. He rubbed a circle behind your back and said, "He's really a good boy. Might become a good man too..."
You nodded and put the key on your study table.
"(y/n)...this is supposed to be secrets between me and Deidara but...I still have to tell you." He breaks the silence again.
You look at him and wait for him to continue with his words.
"Few days back, I knew he hit you very bad until your face is all bruised and wore an eye-patch because of that. That night, he came knocking the door. I opened the door and Deidara immediately kneeled in front of me, begging my forgiveness for hitting you like that. He said, he did that for your own sake but it's not a right method either..."
Your eyes rounded in shocked. He really did that? Your eyes started to water again. "Then...what did you do?"
"Of course I'm mad that he, a guy hits a girl! And that girl is my one and only beloved daughter! But, after he knelt like that, I know he never meant to do that at all. I know he's your very first friend up until now, you both grew up together! I know he's a good boy. Plus, both of your condition are quite similar, you only have me and he only has his mother. That's why he asked for my forgiveness, knowing that I must be so upset." Your father added.
You cried once again and your father quickly pull you into a hug, rubbing your back gently. "It's fine now, my daughter. He's in a better place now. He finally can have his rest..."
Hearing this, you can't contain it any longer and you cried even louder in his chest. One by one your beloved went away from your life. You really need a shoulder to cry on right now and gratefully, your father is always here for you.
After your cry died, you look up at your father and wipe away your messy snot with your sleeves. "To-san, tomorrow... I'll be back a bit late. I want...to visit Deidara."
"Sure you can, young lady... I'll go to school by car tomorrow so you can get up a bit late, okay?" He said while patting your head lovingly.
You hug him again, "Can I visit Sasori this weekend?"
"B-But-"
"I know you have works to do, To-san. I can go there with my friends."
"Okay then..."
***
You came alone at the grave site which is very clean and quiet. You went straight to Deidara's grave and sat in front of the tombstone. You smiled weakly, "Happy birthday, Deidara."
You took out a tupperware from your school bag and opened it. There's a big bakudan onigiri in it that you prepared this morning. You clasped your hand, making a gesture of courtesy and take the onigiri before splitting it into half. You take one half and another one you placed back in that tupperware before placing it at the small offering altar in front of the tombstone.
"Thank you for the food", you eat it silently as you can feel your eyes are getting hotter again. After eating it, you look at the tombstone again. "I've granted your last wish, Deidara..." You said while glancing at the onigiri. You take out another box made out of red velvet from your bag and opened it.
"This...is your mother's gift for your birthday, Deidara. She wished you can learn more easily and become successful with this." You said while holding up that jade pendant that was in a shaped like a small donut with some silver fragments at one side. "She told me to keep this for you..." You then pull it around your neck and smile. "You know...I don't really have any dream or ambition. But, Oto-san wants to be a doctor but he never had a chance in it, so I think I should try in his behalf. And, I think...well, pray for my success please, Deidara. I want to open an art supplies store as well. I'm not very good at studies...but I'll try my best to fulfill all of this! I promise!"
You said this, hoping that he will hear you but you don't really know what will happen after you die. But, you really want to let Deidara know. Them, you broke down again. "Saying 'thank you' as your last words..." You sobs silently, "...it's not fair, idiot... Your mother...you said you never want her to cry...idiot..."
***
The door behind her closed with a 'clack'. It was so dark inside of the house but she didn't really care. She removed her shoes and opened the light in her living room.
Usually, no matter how late she is, the moment she shut the front door, there must be one cheerful voice that will greet her 'welcome home'. Upon hearing that voice, the exhaustion that she felt will melt away in a blink of eye.
But now, she regrets it.
She put the box on the small table in front of the telly and kneel down there. She unwrapped the box and open it. She put on the candles, 17 of them and light them with a lighter.
Her eyes started to water but she quickly wipe them away, not wanting to look weak right now. 'I'm a mother. I must be strong!'
She force a smile on her lips and said out loud, "Happy birthday, my baby! My...beloved son, Deidara..."
At the end, she can't hold back her tears. "You... finally turn 17 this year, honey....Well, done! I'm...so proud of you... Very much..." She broke down and smashed her fist on the table. "I know... you've done very well in everything you did, son. My son Deidara is a good boy...he...always smile for me... My only sunshine... Always make me smile..."
She then recalled that during his final day, she didn't even had a chance to meet him that morning. But, he already done all the work. He cleaned his room, tidy up the whole house, did the dishes and made her a whole plate of breakfast and lunch. She waited for him to come home for lunch, making his favourite bakudan onigiri that he requested last night. But, the person she waited didn't return, two policemen came knocking her door telling her the news that her son has...
She pulled out a photo album from underneath the table and gaze at it. Her tears, one by one drop onto that white album, making a photo stained with her tears. The photo of when Deidara was still in his first year of elementary school, holding his exam paper that he got full mark, making a three sign with his other hand while still carrying his black backpack behind him. He was smiling broadly with his eyes closed.
"He...really have the same smile at his final moment too... My baby..."
A/N: I'm sorry for making this chapter but I don't know why I want to hurt myself badly as well. I cried while writing this. Hope my dear readers have a good day.
