Chapter 4: Possessed
Finn and Jake made their way to the Candy Kingdom to assist Princess Bubblegum in repairing all the damage the storm created. Jake ran on all fours in his expanded form, with Finn sitting on his back. As Jake ran, Finn noticed his breathing had gotten heavier, indicating that he was getting tired quite quickly. Although Jake didn't stop running, Finn made him stop.
"Okay, Jake. What's going on?" Finn finally asked. Jake looked at him confused and slightly annoyed.
"What are you talking about?" Jake asked as Finn slowly slid off Jake's back and landed firmly on the ground. Jake shrunk back to his normal size and looked up at Finn's furrowed eyebrows.
"You're getting tired way quicker than you normally do when you run. With that, and the other ways you've been acting, there is definitely something wrong. Jake, you know you can tell me anything, I would never judge you." Finn assured. Jake grunted and rolled his eyes.
"I have no idea what you're talking about. There's nothing going on with me. At. All." Jake slowly began to grow to a bigger size before Finn spoke again.
"It's something to do with that hat, isn't it?" Finn realised.
"That's ridiculous. It has nothing to do with the hat." Jake exasperated.
"I'm pretty sure it does. Just take it off if it makes you uncomfortable." Finn suggested.
"No, I need this hat." Jake explained worriedly, afraid that Finn would reach over and take the hat off, revealing his secret in the process.
"Dude, you hate hats, at least most of them. That's not even your lucky hat. So why wear it?" Finn now wasn't just asking about the hat because he thought Jake didn't like it. He was now almost certain that the hat had something to do with what was going on. Jake never acted like this. Except when he was jealous, worried, and even sometimes when he was scared.
"I just had a change of style. Why is that so bad?!" Jake exclaimed angrily. He couldn't take any more of Finn's pestering. He now felt as though he didn't care if Finn was worried for him. He didn't care if he had to reveal himself to get his point across. Finn's expression had meanwhile changed from assertive to scared.
"Uh, Jake...-" Finn stuttered.
"And I'm starting to get annoyed at your new overprotective nature recently. What's wrong with you?" Jake yelled as his body began to grow, but not voluntarily.
"Jake, there's..." Finn pointed up to Jake's hat, which was now moving oddly. As if something was growing under it.
"Just stop it, Finn!" Jake's voice got deeper as it blended into growls. The singular horn under his hat grew as his body expanded bigger than he had ever grown before. The hat ripped as Jake shrieked in pain. He grew taller, past the treetops and what seemed like past the heights of some mountains. Finn watched in terror as Jake continued to yell with his new deep voice, which progressed to get eerily lower and raspier.
The hat was now on the ground, in shreds. Finn gasped as he watched as his friend slowly lost control. Finn was frozen, petrified. He stood back as his body began to go numb. He caught sight of the horn on the right side of Jake's head, a horn that Finn knew all too well. Something had been wrong with Jake for a while, and this only confirmed it.
The Lich was back.
And Jake was his new host.
