Chapter 1: Bat Infestation

A/N

So I originally had this story planned to be written and published a while ago. I even binged all 10 seasons of the show to get the feel of the characters again. But, sadly, due to me being one of the best procrastinators, that didn't happen. So here's the first chapter of my first 'Adventure Time' story:

No Matter What

Let's begin:

It was a bright sunny day in the Land of Ooo, just how it was everyday. Tiny birds flew around as all the citizens of each part of Ooo had fun and relaxed in the sunshine. As for a specific two best friends, Finn the Human and Jake the Dog, everyday was an adventure for them, regardless of the weather. Finn and Jake were the heroes of Ooo. Whenever someone needed help, whether it was dangerous or not, Finn and Jake would always do whatever they could to make sure the person was safe. And that's what they had to do today, rescue someone. And this time was one of their most dangerous ones, and it seemed like they had no idea how dangerous it would be until it was to late.

"Jake!" Finn called from the kitchen in their large treehouse home, making sure his metal arm was positioned properly. "You coming down for breakfast?!" He asked his older friend. Jake, the stretchy yellow dog, stretched himself down as a yawn escaped his lips.

"You mean 'you coming down to make breakfast'?" Jake corrected as he made his way to the stove to start making his famous dish, bacon pancakes.

"Absolutely! Woop, woop!" Finn cheered as he back-handspringed over to the dining table. Jake heated the pan and started to sing his iconic 'Bacon Pancakes' song, as he did every time he chose to cook the signature meal.

"Bacon Pancakes. Making Bacon Pancakes. Take some bacon and I'll put it in a pancake. Bacon Pancakes, that's what it's gonna make."

"Bacon Pancake~!" Finn joined in with the last line as he danced excitedly from his spot at the table. As the kitchen began to smell more like sizzling bacon and pancake batter, a knock was heard at the door. A loud one. "Jake. You call Lady over?" Finn asked as he rose from his seat, thinking Jake had invited over his girlfriend, Lady Rainicorn.

"No, man, I don't think so." Jake denied as he continued to make breakfast. Desperate cries came from the front door as the knocking increased with aggression.

"Wait, that sounds like Tree Trunks." Finn acknowledged. "Come on, she sounds like something real bad is happening." He ushered him and the dog towards the door.

"But- But- Bacon Pancakes!" Jake whined.

"We can make them later!" Finn ordered as he pulled him away from the stove after Jake turned it off with a sigh. They ran downstairs and opened the door to see a panicked little elephant, panting words that were hard to make out.

"Woah, Tree Trunks! What's wrong?" Jake asked as him and Finn tried to calm the old yellow elephant.

"My- My apples! Bats are everywhere! Taking everything! I tried to shoo them away but they started attacking me! They're never been this angry before!" Tree Trunks exclaimed to the heroes of Ooo, hoping they'd be able to do something, anything, to save her apple farm.

"Don't worry T.T. Me and Jake will save your apples." Finn offered as he jumped on Jake's back, who quickly grew to Finn's height but six times taller.

"Stay in the house until we get back!" Jake called as the two ran to the old elephants home.

"Be careful! They seemed really bitey and snappy!" Tree Trunks warned, but Finn and Jake were to far away to hear. They ran as fast as they could even though things like this happened quiet frequently with Tree Trunks' apple trees. Although, usually she'd just knock on the door and asked politely with slight startlement. But this time, she sounded confused, worried, and deathly afraid. So Finn and Jake wasted no time in arriving to the bat-infested farm.

"I'll keep them away from the house! You try and scare them off!" Finn suggested as he ran to Tree Trunks' house, whose door had been left wide open.

"Got it!" Jake replied as he stretched himself even larger in an attempt to scare the bats. Finn closed all the houses' windows and made sure all bats stayed outside. He chucked a few out but they all came back in while moving in some kind of formation, as if they'd been communicating with one another. Neither Finn nor Jake had seen anything like this, or maybe something similar on a day where they battled some crazy monster. Finn lowered the bats outside and closed the house door once they had all exited. He swished his sword around but seconds later, all the bats dropped to the ground without a scratch.

"Huh?" Finn asked confused and he looked around. The bats all shook and flew into the air and away from the farm as fast as they could. Finn wondered what exactly had happened, it was as if all the bats were robots, being controlled as one army. "Jake?!" Finn called as he walked closer to the apple trees Jake previously ran towards. Jake came trotting out, somewhat slowly.

"That was weird." He admitted.

"I know, right? Why'd they just fly away like that?" Finn wondered.

"I'm not sure. All I know is that one bit me, then they all stopped, fell down, and then flew away." Jake explained as he rubbed his left forearm. A bite mark was forming itself quickly.

"Wait, one bit you then they all stopped and left?" Finn asked for confirmation.

"Yeah."

"Well that doesn't make any sense. Why would all these bats do this just for one bat to bite only you?"

"What, you jealous I'm finally the wanted one?" Jake pouted sarcastically.

"Come on, man. I'm serious." Finn lightly pushed his friend with a small laugh and smile. "What does this mean?"

"I don't know, man. All I know, is that the bats are gone, Tree Trunks is okay, we can go home. Bacon Pancake time~!" Jake cheered as he raised his arms in the air but immediately brought his left arm close with a wince.

"You okay, bro?" Finn asked and he rested his hand on Jake's shoulder.

"Just the bite from the bat hurts a little. Eh, I'll be fine." Jake guaranteed as he started to walk back to the house with his right hand still on his left forearm. Finn decided to keep an eye on him and if it didn't die down, he'd ask Jake to go with him to the Candy Kingdom for Princess Bubblegum to check it out. Because something was clearly not normal. And their 'normal' was living in a world with candy people, vampires, ice-shooting maniacs, and evil spirits willing to do whatever it takes to have control over anybody and everybody.
