Roy Rochester above
(Ravine POV)
A couple of months later...
"To Ravine going to Growling Tigers University!" Dad said as he proposed a toast.
"Dad, not yet though! I had to wait for five more months for the result to come out." I said.
"Oh come on, don't be so humble. I know you quite well. Once you feel like you did poorly, you are just going to end up nailing it." He said.
"That's not really the case all the time." I said.
"Since when did you start showing false modesty? I know you, Ravine. You take pride in every single one of your achievements." Sylvia said.
"My point is let's just not celebrate this early because anything can happen." I said.
"Mom, does this mean we're not going to see Ravine anymore?" Milo asked.
"We'll still see him, sweetheart but only during the holidays, maybe? You'll come home for the holidays, right Ravine?" Sylvia asked.
"Of course, Sylvia." I said.
"I invited someone by the way." Dad said.
"Who?" I asked.
Suddenly, before Dad can even manage to answer the question, I was greeted by the sound of Craig's voice.
"Hey there!" He said before sitting right next to me.
"Oh, you're here?" I said in more of a questioning tone.
"Your dad actually invited me here as a token of gratitude for taking care of you when you were drunk that night. I told him he shouldn't have because I wouldn't go anyway. I know it would be awkward but then he said you wanted me to be here and that you were just too shy to ask me." Craig said.
"Did he?" I said as I glared daggers at Dad.
"I can go if you want me to?"
"No, no! Stay, it's fine. It's good that you're here. There are things I wanted to tell you as well." I smiled.
"You see, I told you he wanted to talk to you." Dad said to Craig and I rolled my eyes at him.
A little while later...
Dad and Sylvia got a little intoxicated so they ended up doing a slow dance on the floor with the other couples. Milo, on the other hand, got fixated too much on playing Plants vs. Zombies in Dad's Iphone and he isn't paying attention to anyone else.
"So when will you know the result of the entrance test? Craig asked.
"It should be out after five months. Fingers crossed!" I replied.
"You're going to get it! I'm sure of it." He smiled.
"Thanks! Do you...?" I said before hesitating to ask.
"Do I what?" Craig said.
"Do you still love filmmaking?"
"I do! Why do you ask?"
"Then why don't you go to college and apply for film courses. After that, you could go to Film school, you know. Maybe that's where your destiny lies." I said as I tried to encourage him.
"It's too much work for me. I really don't need a college degree anymore. I'll be fine just helping my dad run our family business." Craig said.
"Do you really want to spend the rest of your life manning the desk every single day at your dad's gas station?" I asked.
"I beg your pardon? What's that supposed to mean?" Craig said.
"I know you earn a lot of money in that business of yours. I mean well but I don't believe that your heart is fully set in it. Why don't you pursue your passion? You could be a director or a cinematographer since you have a knack for camera work and you're familiar with every iconic movies there are. Why not give it a try? I truly believe that it's something you could excel at." I said.
"Ravine, I am not going to waste my time trying my best to achieve something that I know isn't going to happen." Craig said.
"You think it's extremely unlikely for you to become a successful director or producer?" I asked.
"Let's be realistic here. Only the best of the best will make it in the film industry. I wouldn't like to think I'm one of those." Craig said.
"You can be one of those. You have the power to make it happen if you just strive for it or believe in it." I said as I tried convincing him. "That's your passion. If you don't do something to satisfy the longing in your heart, then you're going to regret it for the rest of your life, Craig. Mark my words."
"Why do you care all of a sudden?" Craig said.
"Because I don't want you to end up like my mom. I don't want you to be bitter and resentful in the future just because you held yourself back." I said. "Trust me, you wouldn't want to be in her shoes so please, try to reconsider your decision."
He looked down and gave much thought to the idea before looking at me and nodding his head.
"Alright, I will think about it long and hard." He said.
I kissed him on his cheek before leaning my head on his shoulder.
"I'm going to miss the fuck out of you." I said.
"Me too."
"After 10 years, I hope to see you as famous as Greta Gerwig or even in Martin Scorsese's level." I joked.
"Shut up."
