Chapter 14 : Bliss
Maeve's POV
I came back to the office with a wide smile stretched across my face, I think people were even slightly concerned for me.
Heck, I never knew having an impromptu lunch with my husband could be this thrilling.
Suddenly, all my worries about us not working out flew right out of my overthinking brain.
There was a small part reasoning it's way through all the love sickness. Telling me that you aren't a child anymore, stop making rash decisions and that love was not a excuse to be stupid. But of course, the small part soon was overpowered by the lot.
My assistant walked into my cabin with a hesitant smile.
"Yes?"
"Ma'am, you have five very important meetings lined up for the next three days, one of which is with Mr Champ and also, the companies monthly review." I felt my mood dampen, but maintained a smile nonetheless.
"Please send me the list of meetings and have Marcus bring me the file on Mr Champs prototype."
After that, I fell in hours of paperwork, going over the meeting reports of our previous meetings with Mr Champ and brain storming with the advertising group. So, when I came home at nine that night, my eyes were in a desperate look out for a comfy bed.
"Hey, what took you so long?" My dear husband greeted me in khaki shorts and a black v neck. He was site for sore eyes.
"The cruel world of business." I grunted, taking a seat on the sofa. Seth walked towards me, handed me a chilled beer and placed a small kiss on my forehead. I felt all my tension fade as the cushion beside me dipped.
I took off my killer heels and massaged my feet while making small talk with Seth.
"Any updates since the afternoon?" I asked, still bent over, groaning lightly with slightest of movements.
"Yeah, I have to go out of town for a few days." I sat back up with a frown and looked at him.
"Oh." Was all I could manage. Seth sensed my sadness and placed his hand on top of mine.
"Can you perhaps take a few days off and accompany me?" It took my all to not just say yes at that moment. I had responsibilities I couldn't shirk.
"It's okay, I understand." He said instead, reading my expression. He lifted my hand and placed a kiss on my palm, I felt the touch reverberating to my stomach.
"When are you leaving?" I asked to distract myself.
"Tomorrow afternoon." He leaned back in the sofa and took my intertwined hands and placed them on his chest, the heat from his beating heart was soaking in through my skin and boy, was my body reacting to it.
"I wish I could come." I said in silence, leaning beside him.
"Me too." Our faces were inches apart and I can't tell who bent in first, but I lost all train of thought as his lips touched mine.
We were savouring each others presence, kissing slowly. His large hand caressed my cheek and I was melting in his touch. Another hand rested on the exposed skin of my thigh making it difficult for me to breathe.
His hand moved to my waist, pulling me on his lap, my pencil skirt rose to almost my hips, letting the purple lace peek as I parted my legs to accommodate him. All the while, our lips connected.
My hands had a mind of their own, reaching down to tug his shirt off. Neither of us were hurrying, we took our time, I let my hands wonder around on his bare chest, enjoying the little tufts of hair amongst the the smooth skin.
He left my lips, trailing to my neck, peppering kisses on my jaw. I was breathing heavy, Seth's fingers got to work on my shirt buttons, I felt the pad of his fingers brush against the swell of my breasts and I gasped. I was getting overwhelmed by the different attacks of pleasure of my body.
I brought Seth's face back up, kissing him a little more fiercely, with a little more urgency.
The satin dropped from my shoulders, the cold air hit my heated skin almost making it sizzle. His hands were everywhere, they were dancing across my bra straps when a shrill ring of his phone overpowered the sounds of us panting.
We parted, suddenly sense broke my frenzied state. It was late, no one would call this late unless it was important.
I made the mistake of looking into Seth's eyes, the dark blue orbs staring at me intensely. Taking in every aspect of my scantily clothed body. Unnaturally, I wasn't conscious, his eyes made me feel wanted, appreciated. I felt sexy under his gaze.
All through this, the phone rang, it was vibrating against my thigh in his pocket. Breaking eye contact first, I dug into his pocket but he stopped me, pulling me closer to kiss me again.
"Seth, it could be important." I whispered between kisses against all my body's demands.
"It'll be important in the morning too." I just laughed at him, and took out his phone. I looked at the caller ID and immediately the mood dampened.
"It's your baby mama." I said, handing him the phone and getting off his lap. I was picking up my shirt from the floor but before I got slip it on, I heard Seth cut the call and a split second later pulling me to him.
"Don't let her come between us." He said sternly, my face in his hands. I was standing between his legs and his eyes were pinning me in place.
"I won't." I promised, trailing a finger against his cheek. "But you can pick up the call. It's okay with me." I kissed the corner of his mouth, and took a step back.
"It's not okay with me." He whispered but put the phone to his ear a second later. The moment was lost.
"Stella, have you seen the time?" He asked, annoyance evident in his voice, I shook my head and made my way to the bed room, letting the conversation fade. I found myself wondering briefly if consummating the marriage scared me but it didn't, not even for a second. I loved the guy more than I had ever loved anyone, that scared me more than anything else could.
I took a bath and slipped into my bed that felt cold without him beside me.
The darkness of the room was slowly putting me to sleep when I heard a faint knock, so low that I feared I misheard.
"Come in." I said anyway, the room fell back into stillness and I was convinced I just dreamt it.
But nonetheless the door opened a second later and the hall room light flooded in, I blinked a couple of times, adjusting to the light. Seths figure was outlined but I only saw it for a minute.
He closed the door behind him and slipped in beside me.
"Hey." He whispered near my ear spooning me.
"Hey yourself."
"I'm sorry, she wanted to ask me about the meet." His voice was echoing off the walls and I was lost in it's husky warmth.
"Okay."
"I've always wanted to know." He said, twirling a strand on my hair between his fingers.
"What?"
"What you dream about." That felt personal, it was too close to unravelling me and I felt vulnerable. But it felt fair, Seth never hid anything from me.
I turned around to face him and said in a low voice, "I used to dream of the company being all mine." I started.
"Now I dream of you." I could see even in the darkroom the surprise on his face. The dimples on his cheeks marking the happiness that sentence brought him.
He bent forward to find my lips in the dark, and he fumbled but it was so perfect - real
We stayed there, together, breathing shared air. We spoke, discovering weird things about each other till he asked a question that stumped me.
"What about family?" The pad of his index finger trailed along my neck, "how many kids would you want?"
"Um," I stuttered, "well, not now, that's for sure. Maybe five years down the line, I could see myself with a child or two." It was weird to say it out loud when I had never thought about it before. I always found it odd how a child was a requisite in a marriage.
"What about you?" I bit my tongue, he already had a son. His first born son.
"My father always told me kids were a necessity." I rested my head on his chest, listening to his heart beat with his words.
"But I never really thought of how many, guess I could do with a few of baby yous bossing around the house." My eyes widened, I was skimming around the topic, but he had clearly stated that he wanted kids with me. Though, I don't know why I was doubting that in the first place. .
"It's not like you'd have to push them out of your vagina." I grumbled, trying to change the subject. Not only did this one require us to engage in certain physical activities my body was really looking forward to but also it was a promise. The next really big step that he was prepared to take.
Seth's laugh was like a musical note, bouncing around the room and making me happy. I don't know when I fell asleep, between talking but I felt like I had closed my eyes for ten minutes before the alarm woke me up.
Both Seth and I got up, groaning.
"Do you have to be at the office in the morning?" He asked in his morning voice that did inexplicable things to me.
"Yeah, I'll see you in how many days?" I covered myself with a house coat, the satin pajama shorts and singlet were hardly doing anything.
"Four."
