"I'm sorry.. but she's dead Sam. She's gone."
I only heard two words from him, dead and gone.
I could see my dad look at me with such sorrow, such pity. If there was one thing I hated a lot besides lies, it was pity.
I felt my mouth dry up, my head drowning in denial, my body shaking like a leaf. She couldn't be dead, she couldn't do that. Not to me.
I said nothing for a minute, there was nothing, no movement, no sound. My dad kept looking at me, waiting for my reaction. I swallowed, as my head was trying to sort out a response.
"How did she die?" I asked
My dad looked at with concern and mumbled, "Darling, I honestly don't think you need to know right no-"
I cut him off asking louder, "How did she die?"
My dad swallowed deeply and sighed, he obviously didn't want to tell me. I knew then it wasn't a peaceful death, it was something terrible.
"She was hit by a car, she died on her way to the hospital."
I still refused to believe it, Chloe was reckless, no doubt, but she knew how to cross the fucking road.
I asked, "Who hit her?"
Dad sighed and whispered, "Sam..."
I exclaimed softly, "Who did it?"
"We don't know, it was a hit and run."
I shook my head and whispered, "They're wrong, it can't be her..."
My dad mumbled, "Sam... please..."
I rambled, "No, they must have got it wrong. Maybe it was someone else, it has to be. It can't be her, not her. Surely, they must have mistaken her, it's not her. It won't be, it can't be?!"
My dad gently placed his hand on my shoulder and whispered, "I'm so sorry... Sam. She's gone... she really is."
I shook my head and whimpered, "It can't be.."
My dad tried to hug me, but I gently pushed him away. I mumbled, "It's over then."
My dad asked, "What's over?"
I whispered, "Everything."
I then shakily got up and walked out of my bedroom, my dad said, "Samantha, dear..."
I ignored him, I headed downstairs and opened the front door. It was raining heavily, but I didn't care. I didn't care about anything.
I stepped outside and immediately felt the cold water hit my face and soak my clothes. I didn't bother to put a coat on, or close the front door.
I started to walk down the middle of the road, the streetlights illuminating the rain and streets. At that very moment, I felt nothing.
I couldn't feel a damn thing, my head was a blank of nothing. I refused to believe it, I didn't want to believe it.
She was gone.
