Chapter Five

Let's go back to Midoriya's point of view from earlier in the day.

After a few days of stalking Uraraka, Iida, Bakugo, and Todoroki, Midoriya picked up some useful information. Uraraka and Iida were planning on inviting Todoroki for ice cream. That was the perfect time to form an attack.

This is why Midoriya was standing in his small room and staring down at his costume while the other three were eating their frozen treat. Midoriya couldn't remember what ice-cream tasted like but all of his memories of it seemed positive so he assumed it tasted good.

You see, Midoriya had a plan. It wasn't the best plan, but it was a plan nonetheless. Deku figured it was better than nothing. But for now, I will leave you to guess the plan so I can continue with the story. You can find out the rest later.

Midoriya, figuring if he didn't hurry he might lose his targets, got dressed as quick as he could. He could feel his stomach turning in circles.

What if my plan doesn't work? He thought. What if I only ruin things even more?

A voice responded to Midoriya's thoughts.

You will obviously fail. It said. You are nothing but a failure, all you will accomplish in this plan is the death of your mother and the rest of Japan. You should just give up already.

Midoriya sighed, grapping his belt of newly acquired weapons that consisted of bombs, knives, and a single gun. Look, I know you're not a fan of me and all, but can't you at least pretend you tolerate me?

No can do, kiddo. My purpose is to make you as miserable and evil as I possibly can. Hey, remember Bakugo? We should kill him first. I never liked him anyways.

Midoriya shoved the voice out of his head and fastened his belt.

That voice was the demon I told you about earlier. It lived in Midoriya's head, spouting suggestions of murder and evil since the day his Quirk awakened and it was slowly driving Midoriya insane.

Let me try to describe it better. It's like, peer pressure, you know? After a while of constant pressure from the people around you on a daily basis, you tend to do what they say, if only to fit in. However, unlike peer pressure, Midoriya had this voice in his head 24/7 with no escape. It was true torture. Midoriya actually found himself swayed by the voice sometimes, ready to do it's bidding.

He felt sick to his stomach whenever he thought of what he has almost been tricked into doing. They were all sorts of crimes, ranging from shoplifting to robbery to ... murder.

And he had almost done each of those. Of his own will. But this time, it was different. This time he was assigned to do it by his superiors. He had to.

Sighing, his stomach swirling with guilt and sickness slowly eating away at his insides, Midoriya stood up and walked out. He was ready to do what was necessary.

After a few minutes of plotting his course, Midoriya found his targets.

Uraraka, Iida, and Todoroki were all walking together, down the street, Uraraka and Iida dominating most of the conversation. All Todoroki did was walk in silence, nodding his head occasionally to show that he was listening. Midoriya felt a pang in his chest. A long time ago, he used to be the one walking with them. He used to join in on the conversation and talk with his friends about whatever it was they may have been talking about at the time. But now, he's no longer there. Midoriya is no longer a part of their group and they are just carrying on as though he never existed! As though he didn't matter. Heck, they even replaced him with Todoroki. Midoriya thought for a second before coming to a realization.

Midoriya would replace himself too. Todoroki was like a way better version of himself, in Deku's eyes. He was way more fit to be a hero anyways, so why bother worrying about it? It was too late for him anyways.

Midoriya clenched his fist, ready to launch into battle, but the demon spoke. Look at them. It's multitude of voices chorused. They are completely happy without you. They already replaced you too. With a much better version. You don't deserve them. You should just go kill them already.

With a mighty roar and clenched fists, Midoriya launched himself into the street and began his fight with some of the best friends he had ever had.

Which leads us to now.

Todoroki lying on the ground, a tired and done Deku standing above him.

"Kill me." He had said.

You see, Midoriya had a plan.

When Midoriya heard that he would have to kill his friends he was struck by a bolt of pure genius. All he had to do was die. Nobody would question it. He would be killed by UA's most promising student. A sure fire soon-to-be-hero. This way, Deku would no longer have to do any more crimes. He would no longer be the most notorious villain in japan. And none of it would have been his fault, he would have been overpowered.

Midoriya had tried to kill himself before, but he was caught by Kurogiri who then explained that if Midoriya were to kill himself, then his mom along with the rest of Japan would perish due to his actions. This is why, if Todoroki were to kill Deku as an act of self-defense, then that would be okay, because nobody would have to die. He would have just been overpowered. Then Japan wouldn't be destroyed, along with his friends. In this way, Midoriya figured he was saving his friends.

"What? Midoriya?" Todoroki stared up at Midoriya in confusion, "What do you mean?"

Midoriya smiled sadly down at his old friend, an act that greatly surprised the future hero who believed that his friend was now a villain.

"I want you to kill me, Todoroki."

"Why?" Todoroki asked, desperately alarmed.

"I never wanted to be a villain." Midoriya explained, "but it was my only option. I don't want to live like this, but... but I can't escape, unless you kill me. I know this is a lot to ask you, and I am being completely unfair. But I- I'm a villain," the barrage of emotion the young teen had been holding back was now starting to burst out," and the only- the only way to stop me from hurting people. Make it look like an accident if you w- want. B- But please, please help me!"

Midoriya was now on his knees, sobbing to his heart's content, relieved to finally be able to not have to suppress his emotions for fear of punishment. If there was any time to cry, being murdered was probably the best time. He didn't notice that Todoroki had stood up until the young hero grabbed Midoriya's shoulder.

Slowly, Todoroki helped Midoriya to his feet. The young villain stared up at the hero, tears in his eyes. He was waiting for death. In fact, when Todoroki looked at Midoriya in that moment, all he saw was happiness, as though Midoriya had waited for this moment for a lifetime.

Todoroki sighed. "I'm afraid I can't do that to you, Midoriya,"

The villain could feel the remains of his heart begin to crack. Why? He thought. Why won't he kill me? That's all I want from him.

"W-why?" Deku asked, his voice cracking.

Todoroki looked down at the suffering Midoriya. He was obviously in serious trouble and needed help, but death wasn't going to solve that.

"Because, I'm a hero, Midoriya, it's my job to help everyone in whatever way I can. You're the one who taught me that. I will do everything in my power to honor that lesson. And death isn't the best way I can help you." The hero grabbed the young villain by the shoulders. "Come with me, Midoriya. Let me help you become the hero you were meant to be."

Midoriya shook his head.

"No, he'll hurt Mom. He'll hurt me. H-He'll hurt you. I'll hurt you." The young hero could see an overwhelming sense of fear begin to grow in Midoriya's eyes. Todoroki felt a sudden sense of concern and apprehension for his friend.

"Who's 'he'?" Todoroki asked. He didn't get an answer because Midoriya was beginning to hyperventilate. "Midoriya," Todoroki repeated, forcing the shorter of the two to look him in the eyes," Who's 'he'?"

Midoriya just shook his head. "I-I don't know, b-but you can't let me live. P-please, Todoroki, just k-kill me already."

Todoroki stared down at his friend, someone who was once so strong and was now begging for his life to end. It didn't make sense. Who would do that to themselves for no reason? There had to be something going on that Todoroki didn't know about. That much was obvious. The question was, what could Todoroki do to help him?

The hero had an idea, but it wasn't the best idea and there was a 100% chance that if it didn't work things would not end well for either of them. But it was the only idea he had.

Knowing that Midoriya would resist if he knew what was going on, Todoroki hit him in the head with ice he had conjured with his Quirk. Personally, I consider it to be a bad way to knock someone out but apparently he said he was as gentle as possible so, I guess all's well that ends well. Point being, Midoriya was knocked out.

Once Todoroki had that accomplished, he picked up Deku in his arms and began carrying him towards what the hero called home.
