Chapter 4
Jay's p.o.v
Getting up in the morning, I get dressed. Going to the kitchen, dad is cooking. He looks at me, smiling. "I can't wait to meet little Abby." He says. I smile, getting two small cokes and orange juice out the fridge. Dad fixes the boxes, I put the drinks in each. Dad hugs me, I return it. "She was right. You are stronger now than you were. You didn't back down, nor do you still." He pulls away, holding my face "You have risen to and beyond the bar every time an obstical came your way. When I got a call that day from the hospital, saying my son was in ICU, I didn't want to go. But my gut told me, so I went and found you. Out of all the things I have, no amount of money can buy a son. I'm proud of you." He finishes. I hug hem in a bear hug, than pull away. Grabbing my bag, I put the boxes in it, grab my key's and head out.
Pulling up at the school, I see Cole with little Abby. Getting out, I walk to the side walk, putting my bag down as she crashes into me. "Daddy." She says, I pet her hair. Cole pats my shoulder, I nod at hem. Abby pulls away, picking up my bag up. Cole already left so I take Abby through the front. Hellen smiles at us. Coming to my room, unlocking the door, we go in. Abby sets her stuff down, coming to my desk. I've pulled out the food and drinks and offer one to her. She opens the lid, looking at the food. "Allergy." I ask. "To curtain nuts." She said. I smile "Well, I can assure you, I wouldn't give you something to eat if I don't eat it. I'm allergic to curtain nuts as well." I say. Abby takes her fork, eatting the sausage. "You or grandpa make this." She asked. "Your grandpa. I wanted to but he beat me to it. So tell me about yourself." I ask. "Well..." we go on like that, asking and answering. Than she asks me something I never though of in eight years. "Are you an elemental master, mommy and everyone said you were of lightning." Abby asks. I put down my juice, she looks at me. "What I'm about to say, stays between us. 'Kay, our secrete." Abby nods. I focus on the lightning, it crackles along my fingers. Abby has sparks in her eyes, her fingers light up with the blue lightning.
Abby grins, comes around and hugs me. "We're the same." She said. The bell rings, Abby goes to her seat, I clean up, putting away the drinks and food. The rest of the day goes by and its time for lunch. Normally I use this as me time, but I want to eat with my daughter. Going to the cafeteria, I surprise the staff. "Long time, Noe see, Gorden." Zoey says. I smile, grab a tray and head out. Looking, I see Abagale with some others. Going over, I set the tray beside Abby. "Mind if I join, kiddo." I ask. Abby turns in surprise, hugging me. She let's go, sitting down. "Guys, this is my long lost daddy. Daddy, this is Nick, Roxie, Rosie, and Dani." Abby said. I smile and we have a good lunch.
After school, I'm grabbing my things when a knock sounds. Looking, it's principal Huges. He walks in, sitting on the table. "So, How did it go." He asks. I smile, all the answer he needs. "Ready daddy." Abby says at the door. Standing, I grab my bag, Huges follows me. Shutting the door, me and Abby head to my car. Opening the door, Abby buckles up, sitting in the booster I bought yesterday.
I get in my seat, look at her in the rear view mirror and pull off. Coming to the house, pulling into the garage, we clime out. Dad opens the door to the house, coming down the stairs. Abby looks at hem, hugging dad when he kneels. She pulls away and we head inside. Abby sits at the counter, I put my bag down as dad goes to the oven. He pulls a pan of nuggets out, setting them on a rack to cool. Abby smiles, she's glad to be there. "Uncle Zane makes me snacks after school too." She says. I ruffle her hair, going to the fridge and pull out a juice box and two cokes. Abby opens the box, drinking it. I hold the coketo the counter and carefullyopen it. We spend the time getting to know each other that we lose track of time. A knock at the door has me looking at the clock. Nya's here. Getting up, going to the door, I open it. Nya smiles as I stand side, she walks in. Abby jumps off the stool, running to hug Nya. "I had fun mommy. Grandpa Cliff gave me nuggets as a snack when I got here." Nya and me smile down at her. Abby goes to the stool again, patting the one beside her. "Actually Abby, can I still your mother for a minute." I ask. Abby nods, she and dad start talking again.
I lead Nya to the patio, she looks at me. I cup her face, just taking in her beauty. "Every time I see you, it's like I'm seeing you for the first time." I tell her. Nya puts her head on my shoulder, I wrap my arm around her. "In that cell, y'all kept me going, but you kept me alive. I waited for them to end it. If they did, my last thoughts were always of you." Pulling her to look at me, I continue. "Now, I have a chance to live again, to be a father to our daughter and to renew our love." I finish. Nya kisses my cheek, hugging me tight. "You never lost it. I never stopped, not even when the others did. All I wanted was to find either you with someone else or to find your body to beary it. I never stopped loving you." My heart swells with love at that. "Don't worry, I'll only love two girls in my life. Abby and you. Let's go back and join them." I say.
We head in and the next hour just spend time catching up with everything. Now at the door, Abby and dad outside. I pull Nya to me, hand on her hip and kiss her. She returns it, hands on my neck. Pulling away, I press our foreheads together. "I know I've said this, but in case I haven't said it enough. I love you, always have, always will." I tell her. "My heart is forever yours. Cole lost." Nya says. I look at her "He said the minute I walked into the door, you would kiss me." She said. I grin "To be honest, I wanted to so badly." I say. Nya laughs, we pull away. A blue/magenta dragon forms, Abby climes on. Nya gets behind her, they head home. Dad looks at me, a goofy grin on his face. I smack his arm, he laughs. "Shut up." I say. "I didn't say nothing. But I'm glad she never stopped loving you, sweet girl." Dad said as we head back in. "Me neither." I say. It getting late, we clean up and head to bed.
