The Rise of Voltron
The control room was absolutely breathtaking, there were these huge glass windows that took up the whole half of the room, and a beautiful crystal on the ceiling as an overhead. There was this huge platform in the center of the room where the crystal overshadowed, and all around it were operator chairs and panels.
"Woah." Zane gasped, admiring the interiors of the room.
"It looks like not everything as been destroyed by the hand of the Oni all these years." Wu stated, lightly hitting on of the panels with his cane.
Nya went up the platform, holding her hands out to the ground, two skinny pillars rose from the ground to touch her palms. It seemed that one the two became in contact the whole room lit up. neon blue accents glistening the entire room. The princess turned to look at her brother and he went up to the platform and whispered something into his ear.
The prince nodded and looked over at the new recruits, "The dragons are scattered across the universe, luckily we have two in our possession. The other three however; are missing. But from their trackers we were able to locate them." He told them.
"And what does that have to do with us?" Jay asked, momentarily getting distracted by the holographic screens popping up across the room.
Nya smiled, "Well you'll be the pilots of course."
Lloyd paled, "Pilots? You just met us ten minutes ago, and you're already trusting us with being your pilots?"
"Well we don't really have that much of a choice."
Wu cleared his throat, "And the Heart of Voltron is able to sense a paladin thanks to their connection to the dragons." He added.
Cole raised a brow, "The heart? Who's the heart?" He questioned.
"That would be me," Kai replied with a slight blush, "You all have a connection with a dragon. That's why the blue dragon allowed Jay to become its paladin. It's considered an honor for the dragon to label someone as their paladin."
Jay held a huge grin on his face, "That's awesome!"
The new blue paladin heard a soft giggle from the princess which made his cheeks go pink. Nya preoccupied herself back up to the screen and pulled up the locations to the other dragons.
"So then, what dragons are we suppose to fly?" Cole asked, slightly fanboying inside for the chance to fly something again.
Kai smiled, "Lucky for you to ask, Cole. You will be piloting the black dragon, or the head as most describes it within Voltron. It's a big responsibility to withhold, and that a leader with wisdom and strength should hold. Your dragon is actually in the temple, but until we find the other three, you cannot gain access." he explained to him.
The raven smiled softly, "Thank you, highness."
Nya cut in, "The white dragon will be offered to Zane. His smarts and intelligence match the very same of the dragon's knowledge of the universe. Your dragon is hidden on a peaceful planet, which has a civilization of some of Ignacia's allies from ten thousand years ago." she informed, only to be given a parental groan from her mentor.
Kai cleared his throat, "Lloyd, your as assigned the green dragon. Loyalty is one of it's most known qualities, a tends to stand up for their pack. You have shown the same within your friends. Your dragon is also on a peaceful planet, uninhabited from the looks of things, so it should be very easy."
"I barely know these people." Lloyd mumbled to himself, getting his hair ruffled by Cole.
The white paladin asked, "What about the fifth dragon? You said there was a red one, who is their paladin?"
"That would be Kai," Wu said, "He is the right hand man of Voltron, who stands by the head. Kai has been it's paladin after his father retired to take for defense in the war against the Oni. A true legacy."
Nya rolled her eyes at that statement and stuck her tongue out which only Jay was able to see, making him smile at her behavior, "But his dragon is on an Oni warship from what the radar says. So we will need to find the white and green dragons first before we go to find the red dragon. Then once we get them all, it should unlock the doors to access the black dragon." She finished off.
"Wait, so what do I do? My dragon is already here." Jay brought up.
Nya got down from the platform and put her hand on his shoulder, "You'll be assisting Zane to retrieve his dragon. Since you are able to connect with your dragon, you'll have an easier way of transportation when he retrieves the white dragon." She told him with a smile which made his heart melt.
"And what about Lloyd's dragon? I don't have access to black yet, how will he get his?" Cole asked.
Wu spoke, "Simple, you'll just take and Ignacian pod and fly the old fashion way."
"I'll send you the coordinates to each dragon so you may find them, Jay and Zane go to the blue dragon. Cole and Lloyd, Wu will show you were the pods are and head to your planet. Kai will stay here until you've all come back with your dragons. Good luck." Nya informed them, tapping the holographic screen to send the locations to the space crafts.
The group of earthlings looked at each other and nodded in unison before heading to their assign mission. When they were out of the control room, Kai's tension decreased and took in a deep breath, "You need to be careful with what comes of your mouth, Nya." He scolded.
The princess crossed her arms in front of her chest and sighed, "You need to start being honest with our allies." She snapped.
"You know exactly why we do this-"
"And what has that cost us? Father is dead, our whole civilization is demolished, what else is there, Kai. If anything, keeping this from the paladins will only make matters worse. Especially when they learn more about the history of Voltron."
The hotheaded prince grabbed a hold of Nya's shoulders to face him, "Nya-"
"Don't 'Nya' me, you know exactly what's going to happen once they realize what the Heart of Voltron actually is. You know from the former paladins what happened once they learned what it is-"
"That was their choice-"
"Their choice my butt, what choice did we have in this? We've been stuck with their choice for years and it has done nothing but trouble. Secrets only bring chaos, it puts people at risk, you should know that from experience, brother."
He let go off her shoulders, "I'm not talking about this anymore with you."
The girl with ocean eyes started heading towards the hangers where the blue dragon was dropped off, "You're going to have to talk about it sooner or later, brother." She said on the way out.
Kai shook his head, "Don't get caught when you check out the dragons, alright sis?" he called out.
She playfully peeked out of the doorframe, "And why would I do that?" and then she walked away.
Back with the paladins, they were getting ready to leave to their respective planets to find their dragons. Wu taught Cole the controls to the Ignacian pod and how to fly it while Lloyd was just staring at the two from the backseat of the pod. Jay was in his dragon, still fanboying on the inside for having something of his own.
"Jay, are you sure you can safely get us to Hysteria? You've only flown the dragon once, and the dragon-"
"Wisp."
Zane raised a brow at him, "Excuse me?"
"Her name is Wisp," Jay replied, "She just told me her name."
A female gasp was heard from the cargo of the blue dragon. Jay and Zane turned around to see Princess Nya entering the dragon, "You can already communicate with your dragon, that's phenomenal! For some paladins, it takes years until their dragon tells them their name, it takes a lot of trust in order to learn the name to their companion." She gushed, shaking both of his shoulders in excitement.
"That's so cool!," Jay gleamed, "So that means your brother knows the name of the red dragon, right?"
Nya cringed, "Well, Kai's trust with his dragon is... complicated. My father was the original red paladin for the red dragon for decades, then lifted his rule to his son is a difficult process. Red tends to be rather ruthless in such decisions." she told him.
"You know so much about that dragons heritage, princess. Your father must have been a big influence on you and your brother. You talk very highly of him." Zane observed.
The woman smiled softly, "He was a bigger influence than anyone you would know. Back on Ignacia ten thousand years ago, he was considered an Ignacian Alchemist, he was the one who created Voltron from a comet. He would tell my brother and I stories from his adventures with his team of paladins, and it inspired us to become someone just like him."
They just stood there in silence, not an awkward silence, but a silence of honor. Nya shook her head a pressed a button on the control panel of Wisp, "This should tell you where on Hysteria the dragon is, I- I mean Kai will wormhole you to the system. It should be fairly easy trip, but you only have two hours to get back or else the wormhole will close. So be careful out there are don't get distracted." She advised them.
The two paladins nodded and Nya left to check on Cole and Lloyd, she walked in the pod to see Lloyd slumped back in the back seat while Wu is lecturing the buffet out of Cole. Nya went and sat down next to the teen, "You seem very excited to get your dragon." She said sarcastically.
The blonde rubbed the bridge of his nose, "Everything is just really sudden. Not even 24 hours ago was when we found out there is outside life from Earth. It's just overwhelming I guess." He admitted to her.
"Your planet is young, correct?"
He nodded, "Yeah, I mean for human civilization sure, but the dinosaurs were like a million years ago or something."
"D-Dino saurs?"
He grunted, "Right, you have no clue what those things are."
"Is that like a ritual? Or a species?" She asked, curiosity swimming in her eyes.
Lloyd chuckled, "A species, or used to be anyways. An asteroid or volcanic eruption or something catastrophic made them become extinct." He explained to her.
Nya took in the new information and smiled at the new thing she learned. She knows a good chunk of history, but Earth's knowledge is very little. It's intriguing to her. "You aren't so quiet once someone gets you going." the princess mentioned, noticing the stares Cole was giving her.
"Yeah, just not that great in big crowds."
"A group of seven is big to you?" She joked.
Cole cut in, "He just doesn't have many friends to talk to, right Lloyd?"
Lloyd simply nodded, and Nya stood up composed from her seat and got in front of Cole, "So you know what to do?" She asked, getting confirmation from her mentor in the corner of the pod.
"Affirmative, princess." He replied with a quirky smile.
She raised a brow, "No need for formalities, it's not needed. If anything my brother would need that reminder." She giggled.
"You want us to bring the pod back once we find the green dragon, prin- I mean Nya."
She shrugged, "Only if you believe it's necessary, although we only have fifteen pods unless leaving one behind would make things easier for you, Brookstone."
The pilot smirked at her, "Understood."
Nya looked over at Wu and they started walking out of the pod, leaving Lloyd and Cole alone, "Yikes, you're back on last name bases."
A gush of red flew over the ravens face, "What are you talking about?"
"You know, back at the Ninjago Commission all the girls were into you and now someone put you in the friend zone." Lloyd smirked.
Cole shook his head at his friends remark, "And you also know that being called by last name is just common respect."
"Not when she calls the rest of us by our first, Cole."
Cole sighed and sat down at the pilot seat, "If you're thinking that I have more feelings for the princess than a friendship then you're going to bring your hopes up, Lloyd." he told him, pressing some switches to turn on the engine.
"OK, but if in ten years you two have a kid don't say I didn't told you so-"
"Lloyd."
"Are you ready for lift off?" A voice randomly said, frightening both the paladins in the pod and freaking out the ones in the dragon.
In the blue dragon, Jay pressed the button that allowed him to talk back to the voice, "Uh yeah, I think so?" He responded, not truly ready whatsoever.
There was a pause, "Alright, your wormhole is waiting for you, you have two hours until it closes." The voice recognized as the Prince Kai.
The two space crafts started up their engines and rose into lift off. Awaiting them was this galactic portal which the four paladins assumed was the 'wormhole' the princess and prince were talking about. Hesitantly, the blue dragon and Ignacian pod got into their respectable wormhole and flew into it.
The Ignacian pod was transported to a green planet, maybe filled with plants from the looks of things as they entered the atmosphere. The crashed landed into a rainforest, luckily breaking the impact of their fall. The two paladins got out of the pod as Cole looked over at the damages, "We might not be bringing this back to the princess, that's for sure." He said, noticing the smoke coming from the ship.
Lloyd wasn't really paying attention to the former commission pilot, he was admiring the natures they were surrounded in. The air was breathable, definitely a lot better than the polluted air Earth had provided them. The trees were tall and strong, not even the strongest tornado could force them down from how sturdy they were. He could hear the mystical sounds of birds chirping- or somewhat form of a bird chirping.
His admiration was disturbed once Cole put a gentle hand on his shoulder, "Hey, the tracker still works, we landed not too far from the green dragon. It looks like we just need to get across a pond and then the dragon should be on the other side." He told the blonde.
Lloyd nodded and the two started walking down to the pond, a sudden query popped in his head though, "And how are we suppose to get across? It'll take too long to dismantle the ship to make a small boat. And we have no clue what's even in the water so we can't swim in it."
"Now, that is a problem we'll have to consider."
Suddenly, there was a snap, a crackle that the sensitive ears of Cole Brookstone could hear. He turned around, a protective stance with his metal arms in front of Lloyd and his human one in fighting stance.
His hazel eyes orbs searching for the source of sound, his pupils stern as he lands on a creature with weeds and veins for a body, but with a friendly smile on his face. The teen pushed Cole's metal arm away and walked towards the creature, a seemingly open creature that was not afraid of Cole going into protective mode.
Lloyd's emerald eyes were soft and understanding for the creature, "Can you help us cross the pond? We're here under the instruction of the Heart of Voltron. We need to find the green dragon." he told the creature.
Keeping its smile, the creature walked away, at first sending concerning signals until its head nodded towards them to follow. The two paladins followed behind the creature to be led to a small, wooden, boat. I had only one ore, but the creature insisted them to get in. Trusting the silent alien being, the duo got in, with the lake creature getting in the back and picked up the ore.
The creature kicked the boat and started rowing the paladins with the single ore given. Lloyd was at the tip of the boat, staring at his reflection in the water, although it wasn't very clean there was still some sort of decency. He brows furrowed, doubting if this was right. Was he really destined to become the Paladin of the green dragon? Or was it too good to be true. He's a dropout, expelled to be exact.
The voice of Cole snapped him out of it, "Hey, you ok?"
The teen sighed, "I-I don't know. Maybe Prince Kai made a mistake, what if I'm not the Paladin of the green dragon. Maybe he was mistaken, I mean he was in that capsule for ten thousand years. Maybe he's rusty or something-"
"Lloyd, stop overthinking. We were all brought here for a reason. An alien race just told you that there's something out there for you. What do you have to lose?"
"You lost an arm."
Cole frowned at that response, "Well that's from my own arrogance."
"You lost other things just for going to Kerberos, even before you were captured by the Oni."
The black paladin knew what he was talking about. He left everything on Earth just to go to Kerberos, "That was my choice."
"Did you really though? You left a five year relationship down there-"
"That was her choice, Lloyd." He said sternly.
That made the rest of the trip silent. The creature rowed them down without a doubt, it was going to be Lloyd connecting with the dragon that was going to take some time. The boat came at a complete stop, the other side of the pond led them to a pyramid like structure, which was perfectly fitting to hide a dragon of Voltron.
The paladins got out of the boat, and thanked the lake creature for escorting them. The alien waved at them, rowing the boat back to the other side of the pond, leaving the paladins alone to their fate. Lloyd took in a deep breath and headed towards the pyramid, but the missing presence of Cole made him stop to look back at the raven.
"Aren't you coming with me?" He asked.
Cole shook his head, "The green dragon is your fate, not mine. Only the green paladin will be able to access the dragon, and that's you. I'll wait here until you connect with your dragon, Lloyd." The black paladin suggested, crossing his arms over his chest.
The boy simply nodded, and turned around to face the pyramid. His destiny. He walked up and started climbing the structure, to see what was suppose to be the point covered in vines and greenery. Once he made the top, he took a peek at the inside of the pyramid through the vines and smiled. With that, he jumped in.
While waiting for the green paladin to return, Cole was just standing there on the deck, admiring the view. He then brought his gaze to the metal arm he received in the captivity of the Oni. How did he get that arm? His memory continued to be fuzzy, he wondered why, maybe he'll never know.
There was a loud boom heard, Cole looked up to find the lost dragon found with Lloyd as its pilot. He smirked, shaking his head with the excitement he could clearly hear coming from the teen. Lloyd flew his dragon down to Cole and hopped out of its mouth, "Looks like we have a ride back."
Cole smiled, "Sure does. I wonder how Jay and Zane are doing with the white dragon?"
"AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" The blue and white paladin screamed as they were being chased by an Oni spacecraft.
"I thought they said this was a peaceful planet!?!" Jay shouted, directing his dragon to miss another blast from the ship.
Zane grunted as they made a strong curve around a mountain, "Their systems are ancient, they probably didn't realize how much time has passed on information."
The missed another shot from the Oni shuttle, having to swerve around piles of rocks, hoping that they won't get hit. Jay quickly pulled up the tracker which showed where the white dragon is. It seemed to be trapped inside it, so Zane would have to physically get out of the dragon to access it.
"Zane, this is going to sound stupid-"
"You say many stupid things, Jay-"
"THAT'S NOT THE POINT!," He yelled, dodging the amount of ammo being shot at Wisp, "You need to jump out of Wisp, and climb inside the mountain. I'll cover you."
Zane's face said it all, "You couldn't fly the simulator to save you life-"
"Just jump out or I'll push you out!"
"I'd rather be killed."
Jay shrugged, "Fine, go ahead. I bet that Oni ship is dying to come shoot you out of here. Go for it, I bet Nya will take your spot-"
"Fine, fine, but if you get blown up-"
"Just get your freaking dragon, Zane!"
And with that Zane jumped off of Wisp and landed gracefully onto the mountain. He started running as fast as he could with his long legs leading him into a cave. Right when he entered however, the Oni ship shot directly at the mountain. The blast hit the entrance to the cave, collapsing everything in it.
"NO! ZANE!!!" Jay screamed, slamming his fist on the control panel. Unaware, he hit a button that made the dragon have a cannon launched from its back and straight into the space craft, destroying the entire ship.
Just as the blue paladin was about to lose hope, the mountain started to rumble. Something burst out of the mountain, revealing the white dragon.
Jay's hope was restored, "YES! YOU'RE NOT DEAD! THANK FSM!"
The white dragons coms connect with the blue paladin's, "Can't get rid of me that easily." He chuckled flying next its fellow dragon.
The freckled boy looked down at the timer to see only a few minutes before the wormhole disappears, "We need to get back, we don't have that much time."
The two dragons flew up to the portal, seeing that it was starting to shrink, they zoomed into it. On the other side, they were back on the planet they crashed on thanks to the blue dragon. The two paladins notice the newly found green dragon, they all made it back.
They landed and was greeted by the rare Ignacians and the other paladins.
"Three dragons down, two more to go," Prince Kai exclaimed.
"There's only one problem," Nya announced, a frown appearing on her face, "The red dragon is held captive on an Oni warship. And I'd hate to say it, but it's heading our way."
Everyone stayed quiet, not knowing what exactly to say. That was until someone spoke up, "So then, what's the plan?" Cole asked.
The Ignacian siblings looked at each other and grinned, "Alright, here's the game plan."
