Possession: Chapter 3 - Stixx and Stones

After the Ninja had hitched a ride to Stixx, they had arrived at the village by the very next morning. They walked on the pier, lanterns at either side.

Katarina had noticed that the village was surrounded by water. She looked up at the sky. There was no sun nor the clear blue she was used to. Instead, there was just clouds.

Then she looked down. The wood seemed old and worn. She wondered how much longer it would be before one of the wooden planks broke and fell into the water below.

The Ninja stopped when they came across a fisherman, who appeared to be on top of a wooden pole. He was holding onto a fishing rod with one hand, while holding onto the pole with his other.

"Welcome to Stiix. Watch your step." The fisherman warned them. His fishing rod jerked. " Oh, I caught one. It's a big fella!"

Before he could claim his victory, he was pulled down in the water. He let out a string of curses. Cole, Jay, Zane and Katarina ran over to make sure the fisherman was alright.

Seeing that he was, Cole tapped Zane's shoulder and gestured behind him.

Kai was sitting on the pier, scared and trembling slightly.

"I didn't know you were afraid of heights." Jay said. Everyone but Kai continued down their intended path. Kai shakily stood up and walked behind them.

"I'm fine with heights. It's water I hate."

"Didn't seem to have a problem before." Zane said.

"Before, I could make a fire dragon at will. Since 's taken over and our powers gone, I haven't felt-" Before Kai could finish his sentence, he screamed. A wooden plank had given out beneath him. His feet dangled. Fear quickly overwhelmed him.

Cole rushed over to Kai and pulled him up. "Well, now that we know ghosts don't like water either, at least we should feel safe surrounded by it."

Katarina purposefully walked slowly, until Kai caught up with her. "You must have aquaphobia. It's a fear of water, in case you didn't know."

"I do not." Kai argued.

"Okay, if you say so." She put her hands up in mock surrender, showing she was dropping the subject for now. She knew Kai was too proud to admit his fear of water, his ego was bigger than himself for all she knew.

Once the Ninja arrived in the village, a foul stench made her noise scrunch up. It made her want to throw up.

She saw that the village was made entirely out of wood. Wooden planks were nailed on top of each other to cover the holes from the worn-out wood. There were ladders leaned against houses and its rooftops.

"Ugh, what a dump. You'd think the thief who stole the Scroll of Airjitzu would have better taste." Jay said, disgusted.

"This is Ronin we're talking about. He'd steal the sea if it were worth anything." Cole said. "We just have to figure out which rock he's under and get to the Scroll before Morro does."

"Where is he usually?" Katarina asked. Zane looked around until he spotted a pawn shop.

"That would be the most logical spot for Ronin to be at." He said.

The Ninja made their way inside the pawn shop, and as expected, it was full of different kinds of items stacked on shelves and counters.

They started looking around, lifting up the items for the scroll.

Cole spotted something in the pile of items, and lifted it up. "Wait a minute, this is my dad's Blade Cup trophy! What's it doing in a pawn shop?

"Selling stolen goods? Ha, sounds like we might have stumbled on the right place." Kai said with a scoff.

'So Ronin is a thief.' Katarina supposed.

She silently gasped when she saw something familiar. She picked it up and examined it. The lower right corner of the frame was carved almost crudely into a dragon head.

But what got her attention was the photo of her, Garmadon and Wu. The frame was on the verge of being splintered and broken in half.

'How did Ronin get his hands on this?' She wondered. Her eyebrows slightly furrowed.

The Ninjas' heads perked up when they heard footsteps. It was followed by the sound of a person whistling. Then they came out into the open.

Ronin appeared to be holding a white vase with blue details all over it. He stopped his merry tune when he saw the Ninja.

Jay and Zane appeared from behind him. Ronin startled, and looked behind to see two familiar faces. "Ronin! Going so soon?"

Ronin backed up when the Ninja closed in on him. "If this is about our last encounter, it was only business."

"You left us in the mouth of a-!" Kai almost yelled.

Ronin quickly walked to the safety of his counter. He set the vase down. "So you're still upset. Let me make it up to you."

He pressed a button behind his counter and a net fell. The Ninja startled for a moment, before Katarina scoffed. The trap didn't even catch his intended target. The Ninja glared at Ronin.

Ronin awkwardly coughed and laughed. "Uh, that was a mistake. I can explain that."

"Nothing here is legit, including you." Cole growled.

"Yeah. I bet your airship's not far either. What do you call it again? Rylo? Ruby?" Jay said with a taunting tone.

"R.E.X." Ronin corrected him. "And could you have a little sympathy? Sold her so I could buy this place. As you can see, I'm trying to make an honest living."

"Honest enough to steal the Scroll of Airjitzu?" Kai retorted.

"The Scroll of Who-whatzu?" Ronin said, confused.

"Airjitzu. It can make a Spinjitzu Master fly." Katarina explained to the thief.

"Yeah. So hand it over or we can make you fly." Cole picked up an abacus and threw it against a nearby wall. The abacus broke and the beads scattered.

"Whoa, cool down, fella. Even if I had such a thing, it sounds pretty old and important. Definitely not something I'd keep on site. And definitely too much for you to afford." Ronin finished with a smirk.

He went around his shop until he got to a small chest. He opened and took out various items. "Maybe I can interest you in some unique weapons? I've got Jade Blades, obsidian armor..."

"Have anything that can vanquish ghosts?" Zane asked him.

Ronin stopped what he was doing. He set the items down. "Hmm, ghosts you say?"

"Yeah. They hate water, but we're not looking for water balloons. We need something reliable." Cole explained.

"What you're looking for is an aeroblade, forged by deepstone, an aquatic material mined from the bottom of the ocean." Ronin picked up something similar to a shuriken. "Very unique. Even more expensive."

Kai groaned. "Can't you see he's giving us the run-around?!" He yelled at his friends. He picked up Ronin by the collar of his shirt. "We want the scroll, Ronin. What do you want for it?!"

"Two hundred."

Everyone widened their eyes. Jay spluttered. "What? Two hundred? We don't have that kind of dough!"

"Come on, you four once had the Golden Weapons. You honestly telling me you've never pinched anything?" Ronin asked with mocked disbelief.

"No! We don't pinch. And we don't even have pockets!" Kai retorted.

"What if we were to tell you all of Ninjago depends on it?" Katarina asked. Maybe Ronin would just drop the price and simply hand it to them?

"Well then, that changes everything. Four hundred." Ronin said with a quick change of his mind.

Maybe not.

"You can't just double the price!" Jay yelled, clearly not having it.

"My shop, my rules." Ronin said simply.

The Ninja huddled together in a circle.

"All right, so my gut says-" Kai began.

"What do you think, Zane?" Cole cut him off, looking at the nindroid for an answer.

"What, my opinion doesn't matter?" Kai said.

"We don't listen to your gut anymore, Kai. Zane's the leader. You just get us lost." Jay explained.

"Well, I say we give him what he wants. I sense if we won't, Morro will." Zane told his friends.

"Seems like the only option we have right now." Katarina agreed with a nod of her head.

"All right, but let me negotiate." Kai said. His friends looked at him. Why did they all have a feeling this was not going to end well?

Kai faced the thief with newfound determination. "Two hundred."

 "Four hundred."

"Three hundred."

"Four hundred."

"Three-fifty."

"Four-fifty."

"Deal!"

Ronin smirked. Jay, Cole, Zane and Katarina looked at the Fire Ninja with complete disbelief. Jay put his hand to his forehead, groaning.

Leave it to Kai to negotiate with a thief. And what was worse was that they had to make more money than ever!

The Ninja leave the shop, a little pissed off at Kai. "Nice negotiations, Kai!"

"I didn't see you do any better!" Kai retorted.

"Now to find out how to make some money."

So the Ninja went out job hunting, until they got a job at building a new dock. Kai didn't want to at first, because they had to work over water, until the others let him work a crane. The job was easy, until Zane accidentally swallowed a fly and started talking backwards.

Which resulted in Kai misreading Zane's signals, and while Katarina, Jay and Cole tried to help the nindroid, Kai dropped a pole from the crane and destroyed the dock.

And the guy who hired them was so furious at the Ninja and yelled at them for five minutes straight.

Jay opened a panel behind Zane's back and examined him once they were back inside the village. He sighed. "His voice mod's on the fritz. I can fix it, but it's gonna take time."

"Ti si ,dab taht ton s'ti?" The nindroid asked his friends. Then he sighed.

"I don't think so." Katarina said, having taken a moment to understand what Zane said.

"Sorry, Zane, you tried to lead, but I guess it just didn't work out." Cole said.

"No money, no scroll. And it couldn't have happened at a worse time." Kai groaned.

"What are you, a bunch of quitters? Sure, we can't understand Zane, but did we ever?" Zane gave Jay an offended look. "And Kai's the last person I'd want to follow."

"Hey!"

"But now I'm in charge. We may not have the money to buy the Scroll, but I say we don't need it." Jay said.

"And why's that?" Katarina asked.

"'Cause we're gonna steal it!" Jay said with determination.

Kai, Zane, Cole and Katarina looked at Jay in shock.

"Jay, we're ninja, not thieves!" Cole reasoned with the Lightning Ninja.

"Yeah, but we're stealing from a thief. Haven't you ever heard, two wrongs make a right?"

"Uh, Jay, I don't think that's how it goes." Kai said.

"Thgir a ekam t'nod sgnorw owt s'ti." Zane explained in his backwards talk.

"Shut it, Mush Mouth. I'm the leader and what I say goes! After Ronin locks up tonight, we steal the Scroll of Airjitzu." Jay explained to his friends.

Late that night, Jay was on the rooftop, the others following close behind. He looked behind him to make sure they weren't going to back out.

"Remember, I'm in charge. We're not stealing the Scroll, we're returning it to the library after we learn Airjitzu." Jay reminded them.

"Whatever helps you sleep at night." Cole muttered.

"And we're ninja! Let's keep it quiet." Jay said quietly.

"Ninja...go."

The Ninja hopped from rooftop to rooftop as quickly and quietly as possible. As Jay perfomed a front flip, he fell through the roof and into somebody else's house. The others startled at the sudden noise.

"Aah! Get out of here, you blue weirdo!" A woman yelled from her home.

Jay apologized to the woman and hopped through the hole in her roof. "Let's try to be a little more quiet, shall we? Last I remember, we're ninja." He whispered to his friends.

The Ninja continued jumping from the rooftops, before they came to a lock. Jay tried picking it.

"You're supposed to pick the lock, not try to bite it off!" Kai said to him with a whisper-shout.

"If I had my powers, I'd zap it, after I zap you!" Jay scoffed.

Katarina spotted a nearby window. She used her elbow to break through the glass, and got into the pawn shop. Upon Jay and Kai noticing this, they followed her in, along with Zane and Cole.

"Great, now we're already on the hook for breaking and entering." Cole said.

"I don't like sneaking around in the dark any more than you do, so let's just find the Scroll and get out of here." Kai said, wanting to get this over with already.

"Hey, when you guys were leaders, you never heard me complain. And if you don't like sneaking around, why become a ninja?" Jay whisper-shouted. He lifted something up, starting to look around. "And leave no stone unturned."

"The faster we find the Scroll, the faster we can work on the next clue that will lead us to the tomb. Then we can save Lloyd, and it will be all because of me." He added.

"I found it!" Cole cheered.

Everyone perked up. Jay gasped. "You found the scroll?"

"No, but I found my father's trophy. I'm taking it back. He danced hard for this." Cole said, while holding the trophy that once belonged to his father.

Jay sighed and shook his head. Meanwhile, the Soul Archer possessed an organ piano and was planning to strangle Jay with it.

In one fell swoop, the organ pipes grabbed him. He screamed.

"HOLY PIPES! THE ORGAN'S GOT ME!"

The others ran up to Jay, unsure of what to do. "It's possessed by a ghost! I forgot what we're supposed to do!"

"WATER! WATER!" Jay screamed frantically.

Kai ran to a flower vase and ran to the organ pipe. "I got water!" He threw the vase, but nothing came out. "Hey, these flowers are fake!"

"WE'RE ON A VILLAGE BUILT ENTIRELY OVER WATER! PLEASE TAKE YOUR TIME!" Jay said sarcastically.

Cole and Kai threw the items away, leaving Zane to catch them. Katarina used her magic to levitate a water jug in the air, and threw it at the organ pipe. Soul Archer escaped the organ pipes, and Jay fell on the floor.

"Sdneirf s'orroM fo eno rehtona!' Zane surmised.

"I think he said 'another one of Morro's friends.' " Kai guessed.

Morro came out from a closet, and laughed evilly. The Ninja turned around and gasped. "And there's more where that came from!" With that, three more ghosts came from the Allied Armor, and attacked the Ninja.

Katarina growled and kept her eyes on Morro. She tried to get to him, but a ghost stood in her way. As she tried to fight it off, Kai shouted "Try these!" and threw an aeroblade to her.

She grabbed the aeroblade, and it glowed a purple color. She smiled and threw it at the ghost. She put the aeroblade behind her back and lunged at Morro.

"Let my brother go, Morro!" She grunted.

"Not until I have what I need to free my master!" He growled, pushing her arms back.

'Sorry Lloyd.' She kicked him in his midsection, causing him break a vase in the process.

A vase that contained the stolen Scroll of Airjitzu.

"The Scroll!" Everyone except Ronin exclaimed.

"Only one of us shall possess it." Morro said.

Ronin grabbed the scroll. "Yeah, me!" He whistled, and the ground shook. His airship rose from the waters, tearing a hole in his pawn in his pawn shop.

"I told you his ship wasn't far!" Jay said in his I-told-you-so tone.

Ronin climbed on his airship. "Sorry to leave you hanging, but since this Scroll's so important, I can't just give it away."

Morro growled under his breath. He used his Wind to knock Ronin from his airship, causing Ronin to fall onto the ground. His airship was being whisked away with the Wind, and Ronin let out a raspy whistle.

Morro summoned two ghosts to look for Ronin, and the Ninja looked at Katarina expectantly.

"Get us to Ronin, Kat!" Kai told Katarina.

Katarina nodded. "I'll try." Her magic summoned, and she closed her eyes, concentrating, hoping she would teleport herself and her friends to Ronin as closely as possible.

She and the Ninja teleported outside the pawn shop, and they saw Ronin in the distance. Themselves and Morro ran to the thief. They jumped over the gap in the floorboards, and they watched Ronin climbed to the rooftops.

Back in the pawn shop, Soul Archer got his bow and arrow ready. "Run, run, run away. My arrow will find you anyway."

He released the arrow, and the arrow chased Ronin until it hit a sign. Ronin breathed a sigh of relief. " Right. That was close." He threw the ghostly sign away.

Morro went behind him. "But so am I!" He snatched the scroll from Ronin's hands. From the rooftop, they gasped when they saw Morro getting away with the scroll.

"Morro's got the Scroll. We can't let him get away!" Jay shouted. They hopped from rooftop to rooftop, trying to catch up to Morro.

"He won't outrun the five of us." Cole said confidently. Suddenly, Jay fell through the roof of the woman's house again. The four Ninja could hear the woman groan.

Cole awkwardly laughed. "Scratch that, guess it's just the four of us."

They chased Morro, until he used a wire to swing to the next roof. Kai and Cole did the same thing Morro did, and Katarina teleported herself to the other side.

When the three Ninja got to the other side, they saw Zane standing on the opposite side of them, and Katarina realized she'd forgotten about teleporting Zane with her.

"Etanutrofnu s'taht." Zane said.

"Looks like it's just the three of us now."

They continued to chase Morro across buildings, until Cole, Katarina and Kai had to make a big jump to get to another building. When Cole and Katarina made the jump, their jump was too short, and Cole ended up hitting the floorboards below.

Katarina was barely holding on, about to lose her grip. She looked at Kai. "Go get him, Kai!"

Kai nodded. Her hand let go of the roof.

She hit the floorboards with a thud.

You pathetic being.

Morro is getting away with the scroll and you're just to lie there?!

Morro is right! You are weak!

Katarina opened her eyes with a gasp, and she coughed for a few seconds. She grabbed Cole's hand, and he helped her up to her feet.

"Are you okay? You took quite the fall there." Cole said.

She nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine."

"I'm going to get Zane down from the rooftop. You go find Jay." She told him. He nodded.

She ran to the building she, Kai and Cole left him at, and she still saw him standing there. The nindroid looked down at her from his position. She summoned her magic in her hands, and teleported him down beside her.

"Sorry for leaving you there, Zane." She apologized to him.

"Thgirla s'it." He said. Moments later, they spotted Cole and Jay running towards them. They all decided to sit at a table near the docks.

"So after all this, Morro gets Airjitzu and we're left with zip? I hate being leader, but I hate losing even more." Jay complained.

"Eerga I." Zane said.

The four spotted Kai riding on Ronin's airship. Katarina breathed a sigh of relief.

"We didn't lose everything. At least Kai's okay. Tomorrow, I'll command, and we'll figure something out." Cole explained.

"Thanks for the pick-me-up." Kai thanked Ronin.

Ronin nodded. "Remember what I said about second chances, and I'm gonna hold you that deal. So long, and I hope you get your friend back." He left on the his airship.

"Second chances? What did he mean by that?" Katarina asked Kai curiously.

"We may have lost out on the Scroll, but he thinks there may be another way to learn Airjitzu." He explained.

Everyone smiled and cheered at this. But it stop when Cole butt in. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a sec, Ronin makes deals in his favor, and you're a terrible negotiator."

"Kai, what did you give him?" Jay asked, his voice slowly becoming angry.

"I sort of gave him...my shares of the tea farm...along with all of yours." Kai said slowly.

That was when everyone lost their shit.

"YOU WHAT?!"

"WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU DO THAT?!"

"WU'S GONNA FLIP!"

"Swen elbirroh s'taht!"

"I did what I had to, and for Lloyd, I'd do it again." Kai said.

He waited for everyone to calm down, and Katarina said, "You're right. But I have to ask, if Morro has the only Scroll, just how are we gonna learn Airjitzu?"

"Let's just say, it's not gonna be easy. We have a ghost of a chance."
