The Heir Of Wind (Part 1)
Note: The events of Seabound did occur in this next gen reality but Nya has been restored from her "one with the sea" state (which, I hope, will also be the case in the series too–).

Jay threw open the front door of his house, prancing outside onto the porch with a huge smile. "What a beautiful mor– oof!"
An open newspaper flew in and smacked him straight on the face, fluttering wildy in the wind. Sputtering, Jay tried to remove it but the gales kept pushing it against his face. He finally succeeded in tearing it away, revealing his windswept auburn hair. He held it back and narrowed his eyes at the headline.
"Violent Storm Hits The Coast Of Ninjago. Local Residents Advised To Stay Indoors."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," Jay muttered exasperatedly, rolling his eyes and balling up the newspaper. "These days, a violent storm is always hitting some part of Ninjago or the other." He threw the paper ball across his garden but the winds compelled it to strike back on his nose.
"Ow, son of a–"
Jay stomped back inside and slammed the door shut which looked like it would break off its hinges. The wind howled outside and before long, thunder roared through the din. Jay glanced worriedly out the window, shaking his head at the windy disaster. He turned around and almost jumped when three pairs of wide eyes met him.
"When's Uncle Kai coming?" his kids chorused.
Their father smiled. Jay had never expected Kai of all people to be good with children but the effect he had on the twins and Lydia turned down that string of thought. Whenever Kai would announce his arrival, the kids would pester him and Nya till the said uncle would show up at their doorstep.
Be it arm wrestling with Cliff and Fritz (and letting them win) or trying out Snapchat filters with Lydia, Kai always had a way of making the kids have a swell time in his presence. In short, Uncle Kai was their favorite. Funnily enough, Kai's children connected more with Nya and so their little family was like a confidential group much closer together than the families of the other Ninja.
"I'm sure he's on his way," Jay declared, trying to ignore the thundering rain. The twins bumped fists and whooped while Lydia yelled "Yay!" with more enthusiasm than the storm itself.
Satisfying his jumpy lot, Jay happily made his way to the living room where he was sure Nya was dusting the furniture. However, he found her on the couch watching the news on the TV with a frown. Jay winced at the screen as it showed the reporter, Gayle Gossip almost being blown away by the wind. She screamed into her mic about the weather being disastrous for the whole of next week.
"It's been storming on and off all month," Jay spoke, sitting down next to his wife. "Lloyd mentioned hailstones about the size of golf balls raining all over the monastery yesterday. I'm a little worried."
He raised an eyebrow when Nya didn't reply. Turning his head, he discovered her lost in thought, eyes glued to the screen. He shook her shoulder. "Honey, you okay?"
"Hm?" Nya broke away from her trance. "Uh, yeah. I'm fine." She bit her lip as if she regretted being found caught zoning out. She cleared her throat before saying, "Kai called. He said he won't be able to make it due to the rain."
Jay pulled his lips in a thin line, hunching his shoulders as if cringing. "Someone's gotta burst the kids' bubble."
Nya groaned and looked pleadingly at Jay. "Can you do it? It's hard having to deal with Cliff's puppy eyes."
Jay gave a large sigh, sliding halfway down the couch lazily. Nya giggled and pinched his arm causing him to withdraw. "Fine, I'll do it," he muttered, sounding like a burdened soldier. Then he added jokingly under his breath, "Darn these tiny kids with their big eyes."
. . .
The children had been delt with but not without hearing a ridiculous amount of complaints and whining. It drove the parents to madness so they had no choice but to FaceTime Kai's family in the evening and have an online get-together— which mostly consisted of Kai getting scolded by a bunch of kids.
Jay wondered how Kai could even think of his kids being so gullible that they would believe the lame excuse of "My favorite shirt blew off the washing line so I'm busy finding it." But yes, his kids were weird enough to convince Nya and Skylor to prepare food in their respective homes so that they could all have an on-screen dinner.
The storm had continued all through this, ceasing only for a while before starting up again. It was still raging on with full force when Jay and Nya had tucked the kids in for the night and were getting ready for bed themselves.
Jay pulled forth the curtains while Nya slowly rubbed lotion onto her hands, her eyes having a distance in them. Jay informed her of the closure of schools and how the teachers had given a long list of school-break reading but he got no response. The ginger frowned at his wife and waved a hand in front of her face. Like the morning episode, Nya jolted out of her reverie and glanced up at Jay.
"Okay, that's enough," Jay said, sitting down and placing an arm around Nya's shoulders.
"Wh-what's enough?"
"Something's bothering you and you're not telling me."
Nya denied that accusation but Jay insisted on that being the case. "You're always lost in thought or ignoring everything that I say. And it's not just today. It's been like this for a while now."
Nya sighed, an action that indicated she was giving up. "I haven't been feeling well lately. I get tired for no reason and my legs always feel like I've climbed a mountain while carrying rocks on my back." Nya fingered the dark circles under her eyes as she spoke. "I haven't slept right for a few days either. I always wake up feeling nauseous and then I'm unable to fall back to sleep."
Jay suddenly gasped, grabbing his wife's shoulders and shaking them. "Is it what I think it is?"
Nya creased her forehead. "What?"
Jay dropped his voice to a whisper. "The P-word."
"What P-word?"
"The P-R-E-G–"
"No, Jay!" Nya nearly screamed making her husband fall back. "I'm not pregnant! I'm just fatigued!"
"Oh, thank the First Spinjitzu Master!" Jay sagged his shoulders in relief and smiled gratefully. "Because I really have no stamina in me to raise a fourth child."
Nya shook her head, sounding offended. "Why when a woman's not feeling well always means she's pregnant? It could just be a phase!"
Jay shrugged. "I thought that was a puberty thing."
"I- You know what I mean."
Jay raised an uncertain eyebrow. "So . . . you're in a phase?"
Nya gave him a look that expressed her annoyance and Jay cringed. "Sorry," he began slowly. "But you're not exactly being clear here. What is bothering you?"
"You won't like it," Nya stated, looking away guiltily. "It's something that's been troubling me and I'm afraid I have figured it out. But I need your approval."
Jay was now more concerned than ever. "Nya, tell me what is it?"
"I've been seeing him in my dreams."
The man stopped short at that. He shut his mouth and cautiously glanced at his wife. He quietly place a hand on her knee. "Who?"
It took Nya a while to reply and when she did, Jay was unsure on what to do next.
"Morro."
The Master of Lightning waited a while before breaking into a teasing grin. "Aw, are we having nightmares?"
"Jay, I'm serious." Nya suddenly looked exhausted, her dark circles more prominent. "I think it's a vision of some kind. A warning."
Jay dropped his smile, agitation prickling through him. "A vision? Why– What do you see?"
Nya took a deep breath and ran her hands over her face as if shoving away the tiredness. "There's always a terrible storm," she began, gazing at the shut curtains. "But there's no sound of thunder or winds. He stands right in the dead center of it; the eye of the storm. He looks worried and his voice is desperate."
Jay gulped and he realized his throat had gone dry. Nya kept staring intently at the window as if she could see her dreams playing on the curtains' fabric. She continued.
"I can't hear him but then the first boom of thunder shakes the ground. All sounds come back; the lightning, the rain, the howling wind. After this, I can only hear him say one thing. He keeps repeating it like a stuck record."
"What does he say?"
Nya slowly glanced at her husband, apprehension sinking deep into her gaze. She tightened her fists before quoting. "Ninjago is falling. Wind needs an heir. Find the whispering giants."
Jay scrunched up his nose his confusion, mouthing the word "what" vaguely. He silently repeated what Nya told him in his mind but came up with nothing.
"What does he mean 'Wind needs an heir'?" he asked, looking at Nya, somehow knowing she had the answer. "And what are whispering giants?"
"I think Ninjago needs a Master of Wind," Nya mumbled after a few seconds of thoughtful silence, fiddling with her wedding ring. "Morro wants to return the element of Wind to this realm."
Jay took the information apart, trying to dig out a possible explanation. Then something clicked. Ninjago is falling. It needs a wind elemental. "Nya, that's it! That's what's causing all the storms!" he exclaimed, standing up from the bed.
The ravenette nodded. "I think so too. The storms have been causing destruction for over a month. Without a master, the winds are running wild."
"But Morro's in the Departed Realm. He died without an heir," Jay pointed out, his excitement simmering down. "The element went with him. There's no way he can return it."
"That's where we come in," Nya said, tucking her feet under herself. "If we're going to stop Ninjago from being torn apart by all these storms, then we have to give Wind an heir."
Jay hummed, nodding and rubbing his chin in thought. He stopped as a question popped up. "Why did he come to you of all people though? Shouldn't he be bothering Lloyd for this?"
Nya looked up sharply. Her eyes narrowed down to slits. "What makes you say that?"
Jay shrugged, sitting down on the edge of the bed. "I mean, Lloyd's the grandson of the First Spinjitzu Master, the only guy who could control all the elements."
"That's the problem," Nya put in impatiently. "The First Spinjitzu Master controlled all the elements except Wind and Water. They belonged to Wojira."
Jay knitted his eyebrows together and frowned. "What are you implying?"
"I may have an idea as to why Morro came to me," Nya replied, absentmindedly rubbing her arms. "Maybe to properly bring Wind under control, we have to balance it out with it's twin; the element of Water."
Jay's eyes widened. He shuffled closer to his wife and lowered his voice. "You mean Morro wants the next Master of Wind to be close to Water."
"He prefers it more likely," Nya corrected.
Jay paused for a second. The Master of Water already existed as Nya so that ruled out the possibility of her receiving the element of Wind. There was only one other option. And that was . . .
"Our kids," Jay said aloud to which Nya nodded slowly.
"Cliff, Fritz and Lydia are my blood," she explained, her voice quieter now. "They may not all be Water but they are related to it."
"One of the three will eventually become the Master of Water," Jay added. "You think it's agreeable if one becomes a wind elemental too?
Nya suddenly gave a wide smile, amusement twinkling in her eyes. "Having twins was either a coincidence or a convenience."
Jay blinked. "What do you mean?"
"Isn't it obvious?" Nya asked. "Twin elements, twin brothers."
Nya acted like this was the most wonderful news but Jay didn't think that way. He had lost his wife once due to Water's association with Wojira. He did not want the sea serpent's tales to resurface. Especially if it concerned his children now.
"Nya, do you really want to expose Cliff and Fritz to all this mess?" He spoke quietly and carefully as if afraid of triggering something. "I mean, aren't we rushing into this a bit recklessly."
Nya sighed, shaking her head. "Jay, the kids are going to have to take our place someday. They train to prepare themselves everyday for crying out loud."
"Yeah, but we know and trust each other," Jay argued, nervousness seeping in. "We're familiar with elements like mine, yours, Fire, Earth, Ice, etcetera. Wind is just so . . . unknown. We don't know that much about it. I'd rather keep the twins away from this."
Nya smiled knowingly. She leaned over pecked Jay's cheek before casually playing with his hair. "Jay, what are we?"
The ginger sagged his shoulders. "Elemental Masters," he muttered.
"And as Elemental Masters, our job is to . . ."
Jay found this embarrassing. "Protect Ninjago."
"Even if it requires . . ."
Finally, Jay gave up and mumbled grumpily. "Taking risks and giving sacrifices."
"These storms, they're not normal," Nya continued, her smile giving way to a more serious visage. "If we don't return Wind to Ninjago, it will fall just like Morro said. We have to do this."
Jay nodded though the movement appeared hesitant. "You're right. Everything will be okay."
"You're with me on this?"
"Do I have a choice?" Jay attempted a smile to which Nya pulled him in a short hug.
"As for the whispering giants," she said, breaking away and climbing off the bed towards the light switch. "I think they'll be able to help us through with this. That's why Morro suggested them."
"You don't think they're actual giants, do you?" Jay wondered, the habitual sliver of panic flickering in his voice.
Nya's expression was neutral when she turned to face him. "Guess we'll have to find out. We're discussing this with the others in the morning."
There was a click and the lights went out.
