Chapter Four

Cole sighed as he shifted his position, he wasn't coming. Of course the one time he brings Kai along he doesn't show. Maybe it's for the best, he mused, this way Kai won't be competition.
"C'mon, man, we should get back." Cole states standing up.
"You go ahead, I wanna stay out a little while longer and walk around a bit," Kai says as he stands up.
"Okay, just don't get into any trouble," Cole says as he walks towards the fire escape, "Bye"
Kai smiles as he walks towards the edge of the building, he would only be in trouble if he was caught. Shedding his jacket Kai allowed his wing to spread behind him. They emitted a faint red orange glow as hey flowed behind him like a burning fire. Any person would be stunned by their raw beauty and power as Kai took flight. He sailed calmly down towards the outskirts of Ninjago City, following his heart.  Kai heard the faint buble of a stream as he landed gently in on a tree branch. With a sigh he hid his wings once again, knowing no human could see them for obvious reasons. Settling on the branch Kai waits, he doesn't know why he  does, but he does. Just then the rustle of a bush catches his attention. He narrows his eyes in focus, and something he never expected immerges. A tall male clad in white. The man moves to the  base of the tree and sits. Kai suppresses a laugh when he realises the other male is meditating, in a park, with a demon watching him. The brunette smiles down at him, studying his face as much as he can in the faint light. He can see fair skin, soft silver hair, and a soft smile. At that moment Kai could only think of one word to describe the stranger, beautiful. A gasp escapes his lips as the man looks straight at him and opens his ice blue eyes. Kai squeaks in a very unmanly way and falls. He braces for the impact pain, and closes his eyes, but the pain never comes. His eyes flutter open on their own accord, and lock with the man in whites own pair.
"Are you alright?" the male asks, his voice smooth and calming.
"I-I'm f-fine," he stutters out, face flushed bright red.
"Are you sure, your face appears very hot,"
"I'm fine, I'll be even better when you put me down," Kai snaps.
"Right, sorry," the taller says, releasing Kai's legs, so he was standing up straight, before adding, "I'm Zane."
"Kai," he replies, " thanks for, um, catching me. I woulda had a heck of a bruise if ya hadn't."
"True, but my apologies for startling you, I was unaware of your presence, and was slightly unnerved."
"Yeah, sorry I was kinda just watching you," the brunette said, before making up an excuse," I just didn't know how to announce my presence with out disturbing your meditation."
"Ah, well I thank you for that, but, if i I may ask, why were you up in a tree in the first place?" Zane said his eyes twinkling in the  faint light.
"Well, I was, um, just sitting, and uh, enjoying nature?" he says, though it sounds more like a question.
"Understandable, it really is beautiful here, isn't it," he says turning his head towards the sunset.
All Kai could manage to say as he stared in awe at the other was a faint yes. Due to the fact the all his breath was taken away by the way the light shown and Zane's face, beautiful reds and oranges cast enthralling shadows on his face, and made his eyes sparkle like clear pools of water.
"You're Beautiful" the red clad male whispers softly.
"What?" Zane asks moving his gaze from the sunset to the other teen.
"I-I said, it's b-beautiful," this response only causes Zane to frown in concern.
"Are you sure you are alright, you're stuttering allot," the slightly older teen's eyes fill with concern as he moves his hand to Kai's forehead, which entices his blush to return, full force.
"I said I'm fine, don't worry," he smiles sheepishly at the other when he begins murmuring under his breath about no fever.
"So, Zane, how old are you?" Kai asks in an attempt to change to subject.
"Eighteen, Nineteen in  a week," he replies, "How about you, Kai."
"I just turned eighteen a month ago," he says, sitting casually at the base of the tree.
Kai grins as he looks up at Zane, he quickly grabs Zane's hand and pulls him to the ground. He laughs when the elder squeaks in displeasure and fall next to him.
"Favorite, sport?" he asks.
"Hockey," Zane says chuckling, "how bout you?"
"Basketball, duh. Color?"
"White, ice blue or," Zane says quickly stopping himself, "uh n-nevermind,"
"Tell me!" Kai exclaims, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
"Hrmp, fine, or pink," he says, a light blush dusting his face.
Kai couldn't hold in his laughter and was practically rolling on the ground.
"Don't, haha, worry Zane, haha, r-real men wear, pfft pink,"
Zane tried to scowl at his childish behavior, but instead found himself smiling at the joyous look that graced his companions face. If he looked closely he would've seen the small tears that were forming in the corners of Kai's sunset eyes or the sharp canine teeth that rested in side his bright smile.
"Okay, Kai, favorite cartoon?" he asks.
Kai quickly stops laughing and blushes," Steven Universe,"
Zane chuckles, "Same,"
The night rolled on, both asking trivial questions that resulted in joyous bouts of laughing.  Neither brought up what they are, they remained in a peaceful ignorance. For now they are just two guys talking about stuff in a park at night.
"I should get going, goodbye, Kai" Zane says standing up.
"Wait, when will I see you again?" he ask grabbing Zane's pale hand.
"How about we meet up again tomorrow?" Zane suggests.
"Yes," Kai whispers,"I'll be here."
Zane smiled and quicky lifted their still entwined hands, pressing a soft kiss onto Kai's, before dashing off into the night. Leaving a stunned Kai behind.
