Episode 9: Dungeon Party
Oh boy where do I start? This episode was... well... let's just start.
(Also I am very sorry if I spell anyone's name wrong.)
Plot: Cole wakes up and the Lowly introduce themselves as Plundar, Corgran, Fungus and Adam. They sit down and tell Wu, Vania and Cole the story of how they ended up in rock bottom. They were sent by King Vangelis to bring the Skull of Hazza D'ur to him so he can keep it safe from the people. When they return, they realize that he wanted to keep the skull so he could be more powerful and King Vangelis throws them down the hole. At the end of the story, Cole convinces them to forage on and start looking for a way out themselves.
Things I enjoyed:
- Adam is the best character in the Lowly.
- Cole's monologue at the end was cool.
- Baby Vania playing with Chompy is adorable!
- Vangelis wanted to become evil and that makes him a better villain than Garmadon.
Things I didn't like: (and there is a lot)
- The 2D animation. Usually I don't mind it, but this time it was just weird. It looked much better in the Akita flashback.
- What are these weird transitions with the axe singing and why do they exist?
- Why does Plundar switch the gemstones in the cave as it's collapsing? That makes no sense!
- Corgran's axe is the worst and I hate everything about it.
- Plundar's voice sounded better in Greek. I know Michael Adamthwaite is playing him but he sounds too much like Jay.
- I still don't fully understand how Vangelis knew the skull was down there and exactly what it would do.
- I lost interest in the story as soon as the 2D animation part started. The first half of it felt like filler.
Overall score: 4/10
Not the best episode, but we've seen worse. There are some MUCH better episodes on the way so stay tuned! 😉
