I started trying to fix a stupid cat toy for an older woman named Mrs. Canter. I was fiddling around with a wrench and a remote, nuts and bolts were scattered everywhere around me. This project was basically useless, who needs an electronic cat toy?
I was flipping through my sketches with my held on my left hand which my elbow was leaning on the desk. I let out a soft yawn, closing my eyes for a brief second. "Y/N, get out! Get out of here!" Mr. Davis shouted, jerking me out of my thirty second nap. "What?" I asked, another yawn escaping my mouth.
Mr. Davis came around my work station and grabbed my arm, pushing me in front of him, I grabbed my jacket and pulled it over my arms. "What's going on?" I asked as we sprinted through the building. "There's a fire! And it's spreading quickly!" he shouted as we ran towards the exit.
A door fell down in front of us, blocking the exit as orange flames covered it. I backed up, turning my head to see fire on the walls behind me, surrounding my desk. No! Everything I've worked on! My sketches! My inventions! Everything!
"Mr. Davis, what about everything we've worked so hard to do?!"
"Insurance, Y/N! We just need to worry about getting out of here because there isn't insurance on us."
He lead me down another hallway, pushing open a metal door. Again, we were trapped between the outside exit and fire. I gasped and looked all around, there was nowhere to go.
The door burst open, a firefighter charging through the fire. Another man appeared behind him and they walked towards us. The man in front grabbed my arm and walked towards the fire. He lifted me over the flames, setting me outside the doors. I looked back to see Mr. Davis behind me.
Water poured out of a hose, settling some of the flames. Mr. Davis and I stepped back to look at the building, covered in flames. We were watching all of our work burn.
One firefighter began tossing things out of the fire and onto the grass that had made it through. Along with it was my backpack full of all my sketchbooks. I sighed in relief and picked it up, digging through the bag. I found what I was looking through at the bottom of the bag. Everything was there.
I pulled out my phone, dialing a number and looking around, civilians watching the fire. There was no answer on the other end, my parents not picking up the phone. I folded my arms across my chest, "What the hell happened?" I mumbled.
Someone placed there hands on my shoulders and I turned around seeing Jay. He held my face in his hands, searching for burns. "Jay." I said, he continued looking, messing up my hair. "Jay! Jay, I'm fine." I told him.
"Oh thank goodness. What happened?" he asked me, I shrugged and looked towards Mr. Davis.
Mr. Davis turned his head to Jay and shook his head, "Gas leak, uh, uh... spark problem? I don't know. I walked out of my office to see a fire."
"What was destroyed of your's, Y/N?" Jay asked.
"Two hover-boards, one pair of rocket boots, an electric bow and arrow, and a visual simulator for educational purposes. Plus all of my tools." I shrugged, rolling my eyes.
"Those will all be funded in full because of insurance, but I can't get them back, Y/N. I'm sorry." Mr. Davis told me. I sighed and nodded, "I made spares." I chuckled, knowing I have another electric bow and arrow, pair of rocket boots and hover-board at home. Just not the simulator...
"Don't ever look down on inventors." Jay laughed, quoting our conversation from last week. I nodded and playfully pushed his shoulder. I thought about how great our friendship was.
But can we be more than friends?
No one's POV
You like Jay more than a friend. He's your shoulder when you have tears running down your face. He's your phone screen when you need someone to talk to. Jay's your one friend that understands you. But a friend isn't good enough. Jay is more then a friend to you and you don't think he feels the same way. Getting caught in a fire and having your inventions destroyed is one thing. But having a guy you feel close with not like you in the same way is another.
Jay can't stop thinking about you. A hug is the closest friend action he could give you without exposing his feelings. The one problem is he thinks your too good for him. He may be brave but he doesn't think you like him the same. He's too scared to be straightforward. What will happen. (L/N) and Walker. (Y/N) and Jay.
Will it turn out your way? Or turn out completely different.
The answer, isn't very clear. Or easy.
