When You're Working - Zane
"One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish," I quietly said, my eyes leaving the page I was reading in order to glance over the crowd of small kids who had come and sit down for my weekly reading of Dr. Seuss.
There were more people than there normally was today. I saw the same little ones, the girl with the braids and the tan skin. The boy with the neat polo shirts and shaggy blonde hair. The girl with the jet black hair that reminded me of Nya. And many more children.
There were hardly any spaces left on the carpet as the room was nearly at its capacity. But I didn't mind. I enjoyed reading to the kids, it gave me something productive to do, and it was something I enjoyed.
As I closed the books, the kids clapped and the parents smiled. The library quickly emptied out and after many parents saying 'thank you' over and over, I was left alone to restock the several books I had taken off the shelves to read.
It was quite peaceful really. I was left to myself to stack the books and glance over ones that I could use for my next reading in a couple of days.
I could have honestly stayed in the library for hours if not for someone sneaking up behind me and placing their hands on my hips. Immediately I froze, and it took me seconds to think what to do. And finally, I slammed my right elbow back into the person's gut and grabbed their arm to pin it behind their back.
Saying that hanging out with the ninja taught me nothing would be a lie. Cole taught me this one, Kai really only taught me how to use puns.
"Wow, okay, ha, uh, Y/N? You can turn me around now," the person said and I recognized Zane instantly, releasing him as I muttered a dozen apologies. "I am so sorry!" I admitted, planting a kiss on his cheek and hugging him tight. He chuckled, "Maybe I should sneak up on you more often."
I rolled my eyes and sauntered over to my bag laying on the ground next to the chair I was sitting in before. "Very funny, Zane."
"Well, I thought so. I really was sneaking up on you to tell you that you're it. Rules are rules, and I tagged you."
I grinned, "Well, I do believe I tagged you back," I said, looking at him as he grew an amused smile. "Then it seems you're on the run," he said before lunging toward me. I laughed and stepped out of the way before turning the other direction and sprinting out of the library.
The woman at the desk gave me an annoyed look and I shouted 'I'm sorry!' before continuing my run from my boyfriend who was still navigating his way through the maze of aisles I had run through.
But honestly, if you think you're going to tag me, you better know that I like to win.
