When Things Start to Return to Normal - Kai
Kai's girlfriend kidnap scenario is before all the others, and they follow in chronological order until Zane and Lloyd's which happen at the same time. So the following events transpired before any of the other kidnap scenarios so they won't overlap.
It had been a few days since I returned from the strange ordeal I had been through. I had stayed with Kai at the monastery for the entirety of those days because he was not ready to let me go yet and to be honest, I was still pretty shaken up. Days earlier the ninja had gone out again and found who kidnapped me and they looked into it only to find that the main goal was a ransom and nothing more.
I was planning to go home tomorrow and see Mrs. T because I was sure she had many questions about where I was, and I still needed to visit my grandmother, but the more I thought about everything I had to do, the more stressed I became. I was kidnapped on a Thursday, respectfully, so I only missed about four days of school. I would skip today and tomorrow and then go make a huge comeback with a whole excuse on how I was sick.
I was still weary around the ninja. Ever since I had my traumatizing cry in Kai's arms nights ago, nothing had been the same. I've smiled a few times since then, and I've eaten more, but I've still been scared to take a step without someone with me. All it took was one day to change my life forever.
I had just finished folding Kai's laundry and placing it in his drawers to try and be helpful when I heard his voice screech out from the kitchen across the building. "Y/N!"
I looked up and slightly smiled to myself, throwing on one of Kai's hoodies and smoothing out my leggings before tossing my phone on the bed and walking out of the room. I moved toward the kitchen where when I arrived, Kai was sitting with his friends setting up a card game. "Give me attention," he said as soon as he saw me in the doorway. I grinned, "Someone's needy," I giggled lightly, his face lighting up once seeing my smile which he hadn't seen in days. "There's that smile," he whispered, pecking me on the lips before tugging me onto the bench next to him and passing me a stack of cards.
"He's whining about you leaving tomorrow," Cole explained while examining his cards with a huff. I smirked and looked over at Kai whose head was now on my shoulder. "If it was up to Kai, you would never leave. He's incredibly clingy," Lloyd laughed while slapping down three two's on top of Zane's ace of spades. "BS," Jay called out to the boy who groaned and took all the cards. "I do have this thing called school, and an apartment, and a very invested guardian, so I can't stay forever, unfortunately," I smiled.
The boys all smiled and the game continued, everyone placing numbers down and people calling each other out on lies. The game continued for a while, Kai winning once and Jay winning the other. Zane didn't comprehend the whole idea of lying in a game on purpose and he couldn't analyze everyone's lying patterns.
When Jay lied, his pitch raised. Lloyd's right eyebrow rose. Cole would carelessly say something to act like he wasn't lying. Kai would squeeze my hand since he was holding it. And Zane's eyes would flicker. I don't know what my tell is, but everyone else seemed to know it.
While we were on the second game, I noticed a loud boom from outside and I whipped around to stare at the dark sky. It could have easily been thunder, but after what I had been through, my mind immediately went to something clattering outside, meaning someone could be out there. Kai looked at me as I missed my turn and all the ninja began exchanging glances with one another. "Y/N, it's your turn," Jay announced. I heard him, but my body couldn't form a response. I just wanted answers, an answer. I wanted to know what was happening outside. I needed to know.
"Babe," Kai whispered, his hand firmly grasping mine and bringing my attention back to him. I stared into his eyes and he brushed his fingers over my knuckle, but I turned around and looked back at the courtyard, waiting for something to just jump out. "Are you alright, Y/N?" Zane wondered, his eyes narrowing. Cole looked at where I was looking, "It's understandable if you aren't, Y/N. We get it, you can tell us."
"I'm sure it was just an animal," Lloyd brushed off.
I didn't care. I needed to know.
"What if it's not? What if something is out there?" I asked, turning my attention back to the boys. "What if it's that man coming back to get me and - "
"We got him, Y/N," Jay answered quickly. "He's locked up in jail, he can't get to you."
"How did he know about me?" I asked, silencing all their choruses of agreement with Jay. "How did he know I'm dating Kai? O-Or where I was going to be?"
"He did his research, we found it in the place we found you," Cole answered, sending shivers through my skin. Kai noticed and wrapped an arm around my waist, tugging me closer to him. "You're safe, Y/N. I won't let anyone hurt you, okay? I promise."
I stared at him and nodded hesitantly, though I knew he was more than capable of protecting me. "Alright," Cole said while standing, drawing everyone's attention to him. He placed his cards down and grabbed a flashlight from the drawer behind him. "I'm going to check it out, just to ease your conscious. You guys keep playing, I'll join in when I'm back," he announced. I smiled at him, "Thank you, Cole."
He grinned, "No worries. You're with us now, we take care of our own."
He disappeared into the darkness, the door opening and his flashlight turning on. I went ahead with my turn, then Kai, and Lloyd, and suddenly Cole returned with news that it was a raccoon and he took his turn.
I smiled at Kai and laid my head upon his shoulder, feeling the protection of all the ninja surrounding me.
I felt better.
I felt normal.
