You guys should be proud of me. I have never left a chapter on a cliffhanger, but I did in the last chapter! So I hope you guys like this chapter, and sorry it took like 4 weeks to get it out.
Also, sorry if the last chapter of Morro's POV was confusing. Actually, it probably was. This whole book is probably confusing lol. And don't worry, were going to meet our bad guy soon! I'm super excited for him. Or her. Who knows what I'll do lol. So hope this chapter clears some things up for you. Thanks for sticking with me this far, and I love you all!
-This chapter is dedicated to my Dad in real life. He has taught me to never give up, has always supported me, and has taught me to work and earn things for myself. He's hilarious, and I love him so much! Love you Dad!-
Morro's POV:
"My story is pretty short, but I'm sparing you guys some details. A while back, I had a girlfriend. As a matter of fact, she looked just like you, Hannah. Except, her eyes were more of a silver-blue. And she never wore hoodies." We all shared a small laugh. "We were together for 2 years. We were always together, and I grew to love her. And then we made plans. We were going to get married, raise a family, and grow old together. And then when she was 17, she informed me that she was pregnant. And I was the father. You can only imagine our joy when we found out about the baby. We were slightly worried because we were still in High school, but our happiness overpowered that. A few months later, I got a letter saying that I had down business to take are of." The ninja and I shared a knowing glance. "With the intention of returning soon, I left. But an accident happened. And now, I haven't been able to track her down, find her whereabouts. She must have changed her phone number because she never reasons, and it says this number no longer exists. I've never been able to return to my love, and never been able to see our child. I have no idea what happened to her." I was met with sympathetic looks as my heart constructed. That wasn't the full story, but I couldn't reveal that I was a ghost. That I was a ghost for at least 20 years. My thoughts were interrupted by a voice.
"I'm sorry, Morro. I'm sure you'll find them someday." I gave Hannah a small smile as the bell rang. We were all a little emotional, so we jut kind of hugged before we went our deprecate ways. Hannah's words echoed through my mind. I couldn't help but chuckle lightly as I walked out the doors towards my next class. You don't realize that I already have. I found you a week ago.
Hannah's POV:
Teachers can take something as fun as Art class, and make it boring. Now not all, but Mrs. Tilson sure could. We barely did anything art related, and it frustrated me. I was ready to whip out some pencils and sketch my emotions to life, but instead, we were learning about Primary colors. Te same thing we did very year. So when Mrs. Tilson announced that we would be doing a group project, I was shocked. And the project including sketching! Suddenly, all thoughts of dislike left me and Mrs. Tilson was today's best teacher. The blond haired woman walked to the front of the classroom with her usual commanding sass, catching everyone's attention. I looked up from my coloring sheet, tapping the red pencil on the table. Tapping pencils was a habit I had for years. Sometimes, I would chew then if I was in deep enough concentration. Middle school habits are hard to break!
"All right, kids. The Ninjago High Student Council has asked us to help make decorations for their fundraiser this month. The fundraiser is for an animal clinic named, 'Paw-fect homes'. I want you to group up and create posters, signs, and banners I hang around the school and at the charity that will be hosted next week. This project will go on for about a week, and I expect these posters to be quality, and given thought. This will be for a grade, so make it count. I was also told to inform you that Student Council sign up sheets will be posted in the cafeteria. And I want pictures, drawings, and animal related things to go on these posters! Understood?" We all gave our constant, teenagers grinning at the other. "All right. Let's get to work! Get your group together. I don't care how many of you are together, just do your best." Mrs. Tilson had such a commanding attitude, you couldn't help but follow her orders to the dot. (Or as I like to say, "To the button!") I turned in my seat, scanning the group of teenagers at my table. Lloyd was the only one who sat at my table. The others sat at the table behind us-Cole sat in the middle, Zane side him, Morro sat across from Cole, and Kai sat at the end. There table was deserted, but tht was okay, since they were having enough trouble with their papers as it was.
"What the heck? You mean to tell me that Red and Blue make purple??? I thought they made pink!"
"No, Jay. Red and White make pink. Well, technically it is just a lighter share of red because-"
"Zane! You have my paper!" Zane turned to Kai.
"I do?" He looked at his paper. "But my name is on it."
"That's because you grabbed my paper on accident, thinking it was yours! See?", Kai exclaimed, pointing to the red part of the circle that had been colored in. "I used that shade of red. Not this!" He waved around a page that had an almost identically colored circle on it.
"Give me that!" Morro ripped the paper out of his hands. "This is mine! That shade of green can only be crafted by the hands of an expertise! Like me!" Cole was just blocking out their bickering, oblivious to anything but the music that could faintly be heard outside his headphones. His head rocked from side to side, and I recognized the low tune of gentle-rock. His hand was busy sketching out his name in a messy cursive, yet it somehow looked elegant. Like a dance only he knew how to write, but he wrote it through letters. Hey, that was very poetic-
I was shaken out of my stalker-like thoughts by Lloyd speaking up. "Guys. Just sign your names and give up the papers. We have a project to do," he said with his hands on his hips. I copied his motions stupidly.
"Yah. Get with the program," I said in my best bad girl voice. Lloyd turned to me, pinching the bridge if his nose as I posed. He sat down with a sigh, mumbling something about genetics. I grinned. "Yep. Nailed it." I turned to where Cole was still oblivious to the world, and I suddenly felt a burst of confidence. I skipped over to the seat beside him, plopping down in it. He jumped, startled by my presence.
"O-oh. Hey, Hannah." I smiled, resting my chin in my hand.
"Hey, Cole." He awkwardly turned back to writing the rest of his name, and the period art was in. I just followed his hand movements, trying to act like I wasn't mesmerized by the gentle swoosh of his fingers, or too busy watching as the pencil created a perfect "B" on the paper. Cole nervously cleared his throat.
"Is there something I can help you with?" I smiled as I saw an opportunity to flirt. I shrugged nonchalantly as I scooted closer.
"There's a lot of things you can help me with." I goofily wiggled my eyebrows as Cole blushed. Guess he translated that. Lloyd snorted, pulling a poster board out and setting it on the table. Zane grabbed an assortment of markers and pencils, to which I immediately grabbed a 2b pencil. "Oh my gosh!", I freaked. "It has an eraser!" Kai rolled his eyes at my joke, grabbing one for himself.
"Okay. So what should we make?"
"A poster. Duh. That's kind of what's in front of us." Lloyd face palmed.
"No, Hannah. I mean drawing-wise. Or what slogan. Those kind of things." Kai and I just snickered together. Morro sighed, although I could see he was trying to hide a smile. I grinned again.
"Perhaps we could draw some animals. Or a person holding a pet?", Zane suggested. We all nodded in agreement.
"And we should write something too. And make a background so it's really cute! How about...Well. I don't know," I deadpanned.
"I have a suggestion. This was a quote I saw once. 'Money will buy a pretty good dog, but it won't buy the wag of his tail.' Josh Billings (1818 – 1885)." We all nodded and started to plan out our poster board. It was soon made apparent that Lloyd, Zane, and I were the only ones who wanted to draw. Lloyd and I began sketching out circles as Zane made proper measurements for the quote, and the background design. You really can use math for anything. We soon decided on a light teal background with two trees on the sides, and autumn leaves curling around the border like edges of a frame. I though our design was really cute, especially when we added the idea of a girl hugging a puppy at the bottom. Kai began painting the teal background while Morro and Zane sketched out patterns for the leaves and twin trees. Cole was working on the black and autumn-yellow words that would be on the middle of the poster. He had to make rough drafts first, in order to make sure he got the letters just right.
Lloyd was a natural artist, claiming he drew in his free time or when he needed to relax. His drawings were very realistic, whereas my style was more of a cute-cartoonish-yet-semi-realistic style. Together(after many attempts)Lloyd and I finally had the perfect proportions for the girl and the dog figured out. While I started sketching out the girl's body, Lloyd was working on the dog, which was licking the laughing girl. By the time the bell rang, we had plenty of rough drafts, and a slightly wet board resting by the window. Tomorrow, we would be able to transfer everything to the board. I had never laughed so much in one class my entire life. We had an absolute blast with each other, although when Kai realizes he has a teal handprint in his hair, he won't be as happy. Oh well, I thought as I skipped down the hall with a shrug. He'll get over it.
\~^•^~/
"Cough-I'm sick." I rolled my eyes at the girl across the room. Her auburn hair was pulled back into a ponytail, too much makeup plastered on her face. "Can I go see the nurse?" A cough was heard in the seat behind her. It was a boy with light brown hair, and a too tight shirt.
"Me too?" I knew fully well that they were probably just going out to the hall to make out or something. But the teacher just waved them out of the room too intent on giving her students a big red F on their essays.
I quietly sighed, sharing a look with Jay. "I bet you ten bucks that you passed your test, but she marked it as an 'F' anyways," Jay whispered. I quietly giggled. We were at the back of the room, casually going over our Nouns and Verbs in our textbooks. Or at least, I was. Cole and Jay were playing a video game on their phone on either side of me. I glanced over Jays shoulder slightly, watching as he tried to duck under a tree, but ended up cracking the characters neck. The gorilla grabbed the character, triumphantly shaking it around. Jay restarted.
The seats one the back row were squashed together, so it was simple or me to watch as the boys ran from the crazy gorilla. "Are you guys playing TempleRun?", I whispered. Cole nodded, not even looking up from his game. "Can I try?" Cole chuckled.
"You sure you know how to play?" I rolled my eyes.
"Temple Run was literally my childhood game." He grinned with a raised eyebrow.
"Alright. Here ya go." I carefully grabbed the black device. Cole's phone was huge in my small hands, so it was a little hard to each the middle of the screen and swipe. But eventually, I got the hang of it.
After only two times dying, I was on a roll, grin on my face and my avatar running faster than lightning. Cole gaped as I ducked under a tree then jumped at the last minute, running along the half-broken bridge. Jay had stopped as well, watching while I survived. "How are you doing that?"
"Like I said. It was my childhood game." Grinning, I kept playing for about 10 minutes, finally giving it back to Cole. He took it with a shocked expression, eyes darting from the score on his screen, and back to me. I shrugged with a faint blush. When they started playing again, I went back to my English work, labeling the different words and classifying sentences. I mumbled as I worked. "Perry is a noun...joined is a verb...or is it a past participle? Wait..."
When the class finally ended, we all stood, everyone swinging their backpacks on in unison. It was kind of creepy. Cole jogged up to me as I walked out, his shoulder brushing mine. He was uncomfortably close, making my cheeks burn. Yet...I didn't mind the closeness. Jay walked in front of us, slipping his arm into Nya's as they walked outside to the barn for automobile class. Cole and I walked towards Study Hall. We had the same Study Hall, one of the few classes where we would be alone. And that was awkward, but great at the same time.
"Hey-uh-Hannah?" I turned to him questioningly. He scratched his head, messing up the already messy black hair. My hand itched to fix it. "I was w-wondering if you-ah-hadanyplanstomorrow," he rushed out, cheeks a bright pink. I raised an eyebrow obliviously. A part of me was screaming at me that he was doing what I thought he was, but I pushed that aside.
"I have my job at the bakery today and tomorrow."
"W-well what time do you get off work tomorrow?"
"About 2. Why?" He shrugged as he bit his lip. Once again, he ran a hand through his long locks, and I willed myself not to touch the beautiful mess people call hair.
"Well, y-you see... My Dad asked me to help him tomorrow at his studio. And he wanted to meet you. Your Aunt Lee told him about you, and about how you did Fine Arts." I nodded.
"Yah, I took the classes in Middle School and up until a year ago."
"Your Aunt said you were really good at it." I blushed. He continued, ignoring my reddened cheeks from my Aunt's praise. "Dad wants to see how well you do, and he wants to give you a test. If you pass, he'll give you dance lessons, and music lessons, like singing and instruments. And I know you enjoy piano-great now I'm rambling like Jay." I giggled as we walked into Study Hall.
"I would love that!"
"But there's a catch." I tilted my head.
"The lessons wouldn't be free." I shrugged.
"I didn't expect them to be. How much would they cost if I did pass the test?" He chewed on his lip.
"Well, you wouldn't pay in money." I tilted my head in confusion. He finally looked me in the eyes. "You see, my dad's short on staff. He's trying to recruit some of his older students to teach the younger ones. And..."
"I would help out sometimes like a part-time job." Cole nodded.
"It's not a bad job, and if you decided to work more than what he asks, Dad'll pay you. But yah." I nodded.
"And what does this have to do with my job tomorrow?" I had a feeling I knew where this was going. Cole scratched his head again. His hair was a mess but I loved it so much. I mean, we have fingers for a reason! I needed to run my hand through those licks of his, feel the texture of his hair, and whisper sweet nothings in his ear. But that isn't what I needed to do.
"I've been helping out for awhile as an assistant and...W-w-well, I was wondering if I could drive you to his studio." His words came put in a whoosh of breath.
"You have a car?" He grinned.
"Oh yah. And she's a beauty too. What, did you think I rode a skateboard everywhere like a certain someone?" He then processed to cough out my name as his eyes twinkled mischievously.
"For the record, Mister! I am going to get a car soon. You better watch it or I'll run you over." Yet I couldn't help but grin at his antics. He chuckled as he pulled out a book to study. We sat beside each other, pencils tapping on our chins and scratching across the paper. My back started to ache unfortunately though.
"Dang it," I mumbled as I arched my back, hand pressing towards the middle of my spine in an attempt to relive the pressure. A satisfying crack was heard and all eyes turned to me. Guess I didn't realize it was that loud. Concern was in Cole's eyes.
"You good?" I casually popped my neck as Cole flinched at the loud crackling sound.
"Ah...popcorn." I'm sure he thought I was crazy by now. "Yah. I'm fine." I leaned forward to grab my pencil that had dropped to the ground. "My scoliosis was just acting up. And-oh shoot-" A sharp pain seared through my chest by where my heart was, and I had to concentrate on breathing as I scrunched my face in discomfort. It felt like someone was stabbing me with a knife that was on fire when I tried to move. (And no, the pain wasn't from popping my back.)
"Hannah? Are you okay?" Cole desperately tried to help me but I shook my head as a small cry of pain came from my mouth.
"Don't touch. It'll only get worse-" After a few moments-which really felt like hours-the pain was gone. I panted quietly.
"What just happened?" I shakily smiled as I grabbed my pencil yet again.
"I-it's nothing. Just-" I think I screamed. Scratch that-I know I did. I had tried to sit up, only to feel the pain again. This time it was in my spine. Pain in my spine had never happened before, and I immediately knew something was wrong. The monitor stood from her desk as everyone whispered to each other. Ms. Jillian(the monitor)crouched in front of my chair, concern and sympathy in her grey eyes.
"Are you alright?" I nodded, trying to sit up again until I felt the pain.
"Ah...no. I don't think I am." She looked at Cole, who was bent over beside me, not sure what to do.
"Take your girlfriend to the nurse." He blushed and I felt my cheeks warm.
"He's not-we're not-"
"Yes, Ma'am." I was shocked by the intensity of Cole's voice. He was so serious and calm suddenly, that even the emotions clouding his eyes couldn't be told apart. I carefully stood, grabbing his hand for support. When my back straightened, I had to bite my lip hard enough to draw blood to keep myself from screaming in pain.
Cole picked me up when we realized I couldn't move. It hurt when he picked me up, even though his grip was gentle. But it was like I had been paralyzed. Paralyzed with pain. He had me in his arms bridal style as he walked through the halls. Some students stared but Cole didn't seem to care. His mind was set on the nurse's office, which happened to be on the other side if the school. Whenever I flinched in pain, it was like he shared my pain. His face clouded in sadness, and I wantedto reach up and reassure him that I was fine. But I couldn't.
When we reached the nurse's office, she looked up from her small desk. I swear, everyone has a desk here. Even the hall monitors have one. Nurse Lacy had her blond hair pulled back into a short ponytail, silver eyes darting to us. Cole laid me on the cot in one corner, and then explained the situation to the nurse. She immediately rushed over to us. I still hadn't let go of Cole's hand.
I hadn't expected the first time we held hands to be like this. I expected it to be some kind of cliche moment, with both of us blushing and giddily smiling. But no. Fate decided we would hold hands because I was practically paralyzed. Thanks fate! The nurse had to pry my fingers off of Cole's as she pulled my hoody over my head. He immediately grabbed my hand again. I took note of his hand. The fingers were rough and calloused, but they also held a special type of smoothness to them. The skin was a lightly tanned, pale brown. I had always liked to call the color rose-brown, since it was such a pretty shade. His nails were chipped from excessive biting and the hand was huge compared to mine. His hand nearly engulfed my small limb, and I felt safe and protected as I looked into his eyes. The nurse started prodding my rib cage, causing me to wince in pain nearly every time. I was glad I could still speak and breath though.
"Has this ever happened before, Hannah?"
"No. I've never been this paralyzed before."
"Before?!" Cole nearly shouted. I sighed, knowing I would have to explain.
"It all started back when I was 10. It would be the occasional sharp pain in my robs by my heart, whenever I leaned in a certain position. If I breathed in that position, the pain would start. But it only lasted about 5 seconds. Whenever I was 12, we found out I had scoliosis. It isn't very severe, but it affected my posture. I can't stand straight without my back hurting. Then the pains started getting more frequent. Everyonce and awhile, I would get the pain in my back, but that wasn't very often." I winced as the nurse poked a certain rib. "Finally, we decided that I may have a few robs displaced, but we never got it checked out. It wasn't serious. As now, this has happened." The nurse clicked her tongue.
"I'm gonna have to take off your shirt so I can examine your ribs and spine better." My eyes widened as Cole's did the same. But I didn't want him to let go. I felt fear, and his presence secured me. I felt safe in his hold.
Ms. Lacy carefully say me up-oh the pain-and gently tugged my pink shirt off. Cole looked at the ceiling as she prodded my spine and ribs. I felt like crying. "Yep. Definitely a few ribs out of place. And...my goodness! Hannah, have you ever gotten a surgery on your spine?"
"No." I was so confused.
"Well...it's seems that you have an extra vertebrae at the end of your spine. A few actually, almost like a tail. It seems to e curved alongside your spine." Cole stopped staring at the ceiling, and I mentally screamed at him to look away as he followed the nurse's gaze at my back.
"W-what?", I asked.
"Yes. I think when you moved you put yourself in a certain position that had their vertebrae poking the others in a way." I deadpanned.
"How is that possible?", Cole asked.
"I don't know. Here, put your hand right here." I could feel the nurse point at a spot by my spine. Next thing I knew, Cole's hand was gently placed onto of where her hand was, and I felt to held down my spine. I blushed brightly. Good thing he couldn't see. "Hannah, how bad is the pain now?", the one haired woman asked as he grabbed a ruler from her desk. I carefully rolled my shoulders. There was only a slight pain now.
"It doesn't hurt as bad." She nodded in front of me, then walked to my back. I felt her place the wooden ruler on my back, measuring something.
"7 inches," she said as she moved the ruler. Cole took his hand off my back.
"Huh?"
"7 inches. The extra vertebrae are each about 3 inches long, meaning you have at least 3-4 extra. You wouldn't be able to see it, but because I got my PHD as a major in the spinal cord, I can see it. It's literally on top of your spine. Hannah, you basically have a tail." I blinked. Then burst out laughing hysterically. Nurse Lacy and Cole shared a concerned look.
"A tail! Ha! I'm a furry!" I wiped away a year with a laugh as I tugged my shirt back on. I slid off the cot, wincing at the soreness in my back. I tied my hoody around my waist quickly, starting to walk towards the door, still laughing. "A tail..." I tripped over my shoelace, mumbling about how tripping over shoelaces only happened in movies.
"Cole. I think you ought to take Hannah back home so she can rest. Here's a note that you can give to the principal. It'll excuse both if you from school so you can inform her parents." She handed a paper to Cole as I struggled up, wiping away a tear that had escaped my eye when I fell. The year wasn't from laughter, but from the jarring pain in my back.
"When will she be okay?"
"Just keep her on bed rest for the remainder of the day and if she can get a good night's sleep, she'll be fine and back to normal in the morning." I stood.
"Ah...can you please not tell anyone about the...tail thing?" The nurse nodded at me. I leaned against the doorframe as I waited for Cole to get over to where I stood. We walked down the hall in silence after giving our thanks to the nurse. We grabbed our belongings from Study Hall and anything else we needed from our lockers in silence. Once we handed the note to the Principal(who's office happened to be right by the nurse, and right by the entrance of the school)we walked outside. And then I spoke. "I can't be put on bed rest! I'm perfectly fine!" I winced at the pain in my shoulder blades as I threw my hands in the air. Cole raised an eyebrow. "I mean, doing nothing for the rest of the day? Did I say doing nothing? Did I mention doing nothing?!" Cole grabbed my hand, slowly walking me over to a more secluded area of the school. He sighed.
"Look. You're not in a condition to ride your skateboard back, and you for sure can't walk. There's only one way to get you home right now. And, we need to take you somewhere first." I tilted my head. He pinched the bridge of his nose, scratched his head, and scrunched his eyebrows. "You can't tell anyone though. But.." He turned to me, staring me dead in the eyes. He punched his fists together, and his arms became a glowing orange. Black lines ran along his arms in mix-match patterns, and I marveled at the spontaneous design. He wave his hands around, colors designating his element appearing in a large design in front of him. The ground beneath me slightly shook, a few stones rolling over to the boy in front of me. And then suddenly, a dragon appeared in front of us. He was huge, with brown scales, and large crests over his head. Under his rock like scales was a glowing green. You could see the green underneath the scales where there were racks. And the green wasn't just any green-it was a bright, neon green. His eyes were so bright and small, and he looked quite intimidating. But he also looked so sweet and kind. He made me think of Cole, which was probably why he was his electable dragon. I can't perfectly describe him-he was just too marvelous. The dragon padded over to me, sniffing me in a large breath. Then his eyes sparkled and he leaped forward, nuzzling his head into my stomach and hands. I giggled, looking from the dragon to Cole. Adoration pooled in his gaze, matching the green gaze of the dragon. "I'm the black ninja." I smiled as he looked away.
"I know." The dragon and Cole both have me a confused look.
"Y-you do?" Cole got into a fighting stance. I rolled my eyes. "How long have you known?"
"Since the first day of school. I figured it out. I thought the girls would have told you guys by now. Even Zane knows that I know." Cole's jaw dropped.
"You can't tell anyone though!"
"Of course. I knew that, Cole. And I don't plan to tell. I understand how important that is." He visibly relaxed. His smile returned, and his arms turned to their normal color. I bit my lip. Is it bad that I thought the orange hands were hot? And those lines...Oh yah. I was obsessed. Cole hopped onto his dragon. They both turned to me.
"You coming?" I grinned, carefully stepping around the dragon's wing. If done my research-the fact that their elemental dragons were a part of their powers was widely known. But I didn't realize how in tune the dragons were to their master's feelings. Gently, I pulled myself up, ignoring the pain to the best of my ability. I sat atop the dragon. My legs weren't nearly long enough, and I ended up spooning him in a way. He blushed. "I think you should sit in front. That way I can hold onto you so you don't gifting off on accident." I wasn't sure if he was joking or not.
I swung myself around to his front, placing myself in between his legs. It was an awkward position, but downtowns you just gotta deal with it. He instructed me in wrapping my legs around his calves-can I take this moment to mention how large he is compared to me? I mean, this guy was basically all muscle, and his arm may cels were about as wide as my head. Not that I had a problem with it or anything...
I instantly realized that he was a dominant person in a relationship. He needed tht sense of control. That wasn't good, because it just so happened to be that I liked to be dominant when it came to relationships-my way or the highway. But luckily, I had learned to let others take the lead. But that didn't stop me from having my way sometimes. I was a little suborn at times. Okay, more than a little. He wrapped his arms around me, his large hands grabbing the reigns. He had me place my hands on his after wrapping them around his arms. I would prefer not go flying off the dragon. (Haha get it? Flying, dragon? No? Okay-)
The dragon's wings beat into the air, giving me a good look at the large, bony wings. The brown bone-like structure was the only thing holding the thin, almost white membrane; the wings also had large holes in them. Cole controlled the dragon easily with his mind and a large chain. It was kind of like riding a horse. A very large horse. An extremely large horse. A gigantic horse. A dragon-sized horse.
We sat in silence for a little while, before I spoke up. "So, where are we going?" I leaned into him, soaking up his scent. He made me think of autumn leaves, and thin grease from cars. I loved the strange aroma. Me? I probably smelled like I needed more deodorant. My Aunt says I got it from my dad.
"I'm taking you to the monastery. We need to erase the memory of that nurse, and have Zane and Pixal edit the cameras."
"Is the tail thing really that serious?" He nodded grimly.
"Throughout all my years as a ninja, that is one of the most unusual things I have ever seen. And there's only one other person who might know what is going on."
|>••<|
"I'm sorry, Cole. I don't have the answers to your questions." I looked back and forth from Cole and his Sensei. His Sensei was named Master Wu. He was a friendly man who liked to hit you on the head with his bamboo staff, and had a serious addiction to tea. I could relate-Rubius tea is the best.
"But Master! You know everything! Surely you can give us some clue!" Sensei Wu ran a hand down his beard-a move you only see on tv-and stood up from his seat on the floor. He stared at me, eyes scrutinizingly looking at my back. His eyes traced over me, and his gaze locked on mine. He hummed.
"I see. Well. The answers you seek cannot be found from my knowledge. I am sorry. Now, Cole. Please give Hannah some refreshments. I'm sure she must be worn out from the events today." I smiled with a shake of my head as I slipped my shirt back down.
"No, sir. I'm not tired at all." Cole walked over to the door. I leaned closer to the old man. "Um...you guys don't by any chance have a weight room do you?", I whispered. "I haven't gotten to do weights today-"
"Hannah. For even try to get out of bed rest." I groaned.
"Stinkin' heightened hearing..." Master Wu just smiled as he sat back down, sipping his tea.
I walked out the door to where Cole was leaning against the wall. He raised an eyebrow. He had changed into his gi when we got here, and my eyes traced over him. It hugged his muscular body tightly, and allowed his arms to be bare. The gray, black, and orange suit fit him perfectly. I had to will myself not to fangirl over the fact that I was this close to a ninja. "So...what do we do now?" He shrugged, eyes lost in thought.
"I don't know. Not even Master Wu knows anything about this-"
"Cole? I may have someone who could be of help to you and Hannah." We turned to Master Wu, who had walked out of the room. I cocked my head.
"Who?" Wu held his hands behind his back.
"He will be here soon. For now, why don't you contact your family and tell them you are staying for dinner at your friend's house? You can stay the night since you are supposed to be on bed rest." I groaned at the thought of bed rest, but then smile when I realized I would get to have dinner with my friends.
"Yes, Sir." Cole pulled out his phone, opening up the black device and handing it to me. I dialed the number of my Aunt, knowing she would pick up for sure.
"Hey, Aunt Lee."
"Hannah! What's wrong, honey?"
"Umm...I had a little accident and I'm staying the night at Nya's house." I knew I couldn't say Cole's because my Uncle would freak if he found out.
"Oh my goodness! Are you alright?"
"Yah. It's nothing major." Cole gave me a look that said "Liar-liar-pants-on-fire". "It's just that the nurse told me to rest. Could you call my boss at the bakery? I'll be there tomorrow for work, and then Cole's dad wants to talk to me afterwards. I'll explain later." I could almost hear her nod.
"Alright, Hannah. Just be careful, alright?"
"Yes, Ma'am. Love you."
"Love you too!" The line beeped and I handed the phone back to Cole. He slipped it Ito a pocket and then grabbed my hand. At this point, it felt natural to do so.
"Alright, Princess"-I blushed at the nickname-"You are going to rest on the couch for now. Everyone will get here in about...1 hour. And then dinner will be at 6:30. I want you to obey the nurse's orders, understood?" I smiled at his concern.
"Yes, Cole." He walked me into a room where a large tv was set up, and a couch was. A dart board was on one wall. I settled onto the couch as Cole handed me a spare blanket. I wrapped myself in the fuzzy cloth, wincing at the slight pain in my back. He tucked me in, making me blush. For a moment he looked like he was debating whether or not to do something, and then he finally seemed to come to the conclusion to just "screw it imma do it".
So he leaned down, and kissed my forehead.
My face must have been on fire. But a giddy smile was on my lips as I turned to Cole. He was blushing madly. "I-I should go do some training-bye!" And then he rushed out. I burst into a fit of giggles, blushing like a mad woman. And then a few minutes later, I fell fast asleep.
~•~•~[---/---____***] Hi, welcome to Chilli's
I was rudely awoken by the sound by the sound of laughter. The sound was coming from down the hall, and I heard the monostery doors closing. "Did you see the way Mr. Lucas looked at him? He was all like 'You better get back here sonny-'." The conversation was a jumbled mess.
"Guys, we need to do our homework then training." I heard the voice of Kai next.
"Yah, yah, Greenie." They all ran past the opening of the living room and down the hall, laughing and yelling.
"Hey, wait..." Soon enough they were at the door, curiously peering in. I groaned from being woken up from my glorious nap as I threw the blanket over my head.
"Who's there? I know Spinjitzu!"
"Shut up, Jay!" I rolled my eyes. Like an attacker would cruelly tell them who they were.
"A grumpy napper," I answered. I sat up, rubbing a hand over my face. They were all in a fighting stance, and my groggy mind finally realized that there were some faces I didn't expect to see-Griffin, Neuro, Ash, Shade, Tox, Camille, and Morro. Shade, Ash, Camille, and Tox all left upon realizing that I was not an attacker.
"Is that a dragon species?" Kai bonked Jay on the head. "Ow! You can't hit me! Only Wu can do that!" I felt the blanket fall of my head, leaving behind frazzled and staticky hair, which I quickly smoothed down.
"Hannah?!" The boys tried to cover their faces-except Zane-to which the girls rolled their eyes.
"She's known for a while, guys," Nya explained. Skylor looked at me.
"Hannah, you look like you just went through a tornado."
"The tornado of sleep!" Kai rolled his eyes at Jay's joke. I groaned, falling back down onto the couch.
"And I don't care." I wanted to fall back asleep but I knew it would be useless.
"What are you doing here?", asked Lloyd.
"My sensors pick up traces of pain in the spinal region."
"I concur with Pixal." The sound of running feet came towards us, and a mess of shaggy black bangs appeared in the doorway. By now they had all crowde around the couch.
"Leave her alone everyone. She needs to rest."
"Ah, Cole." I dug back under the blanket, my eyes peering out from underneath the cloth. "My savior."
"Cole? Why weren't you in Math class?" Cole pointed towards me.
"That's why." I groaned again with a dry sob. I just wanted sleep.
"Is she sick?" So once again, Cole ah to explain the situation to them. Jay's eyes sparkled.
"Wow! Can I see?"
"I am not showing everyone my stinkin' tail!" They all stilled at my outburst. "Sorry. I get crabby when I'm woken up."
"I'll say," Kai mumbled. Skylor elbowed him with a "be quiet".
"And now Hannah's on bed rest," Cole concluded. Everyone nodded in understanding. Everyone but Morro. He seemed to be lost in thought as he peered at me. And then something seemed to click.
Morro hurried over to me. "Hannah, I need to see your spine."
"Did I mention the part about rest?", Cole asked sarcastically, even though he couldn't hide the shock in his voice at how urgent Morro was. None of us could. I awkwardly pulled my shirt off, holding it at my front like a pillow. His dark green eyes examined my back as his hands counted my vertebrae. His hand fell back in shock, and I shrugged te sort back on as he placed a hand on his forehead. He had a hand out to steady himself. "Morro? You good man?", asked Lloyd, who had rushed to his friend's side. Morro pointed at me, eyes flashing with different emotions. "I-I thought I was right but this confirms it...My gosh you're nearly the spitting image of her...!"
"Of who?" We were all so confused. Morro leaned against the wall as Neuro cast a flame between us. I could almost feel him reading my mid, sifting through my memories. But I didn't care: I just wanted to know what Morro meant. Said person covered his face, mumbling one word that nearly had me fainting.
"Lillian..." I gasped, holding onto Cole for support
"What's wrong?"
"Who's Lillian?" Questions were fired as I tried to clear my head. But there were too many emotions going on in my mind...and I couldn't seem to control them. I've always been bad at controlling my emotions, but this felt like I couldn't control nearly anything anything I did.
"Hannah?", Cole asked me urgently. All eyes turned to me. My voice was barely above a whisper as I answered. All thoughts of sleep left me, and my back was forgotten as I stuttered out my sentence.
"That-that was m-my mother's name."
AN-So...that happened. Yah, umm...Chapter 7 should be up soon-I've got moat of it written and planned. It'll probably be a week by the time it's done.
