Truth or a Trap?: Part 1
Lloyd's P.O.V.:
I left the monastery without telling my wife where I was going. This was something I needed to do alone. After a long drive through the desert, I arrived at Kryptarian and I walked up to that cell and there he was with his smug, unapologetic face. I faced him.
"What do you want?" Jett crossed his arms.
"I want you to feel remorse about what you put me and my family through." I said.
"Well, good luck with that." Jett laughed.
"I wouldn't be laughing if I were held in jail for a murder charge."
"Actually it's just attempted murder. With a good lawyer, I'll be out of here by the end of the month."
"I wouldn't count on that."
"Why?"
"Because my wife was pregnant when you shot her." I said. "My baby didn't make it. Such an innocent life that could've been for that baby, and you took it away from us."
"I... I didn't know." He frowned.
"Would it have made a difference if you did?"
"I... I don't know."
"My other kids are who knows where right now and the only reason I'm not bursting into that cell and beating you to a pulp is because Kira needs me right now, and I don't want to get thrown in with you. Just know this, I will take comfort in the fact that you will never leave that cell or go outside ever again. You deserve to stay in here and rot."
I took one last look at him and walked back to my car. I drove back home and picked up some donuts for me and Kira on the way so she wouldn't be too upset. As I entered, Kira was waiting for me on the couch. She already looked pretty upset.
"Hey honey. What's wrong?" I asked.
"Where have you been? I've been looking for you all over the place." Kira said.
"Sorry, I just went out to get breakfast." I said, showing the bag of donuts in my hand.
"Are you sure that's all? You've been gone for hours."
"I just had a bad moment and had to visit my mom's grave. Don't worry about it."
"Oh, sorry. I didn't know." Kira frowned. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah, I will be. Thank you."
I sat down with her and sat the bag on the table. I handed her a donut with strawberry frosting and sprinkles because that's her favorite. She sighed and sat it in front of her.
"What's wrong? Not hungry?" I asked.
"No, I'm just distracted." She sighed and handed me a letter.
The return address was the Ninjago City courthouse. I opened it and read what it said.
"This is about Jett's trial." I said.
"They're asking me to give a witness statement." Kira frowned.
"That's great, you can tell our story to the judge and they'll put him away for life."
"I don't know if I can." She frowned.
"Why not? He deserves to be locked away. After what he did to you, me, Kai, Liv, Olivia, Ben and CJ, and our baby."
"I know, but the thought of being in the same room as him again... I think it'll just bring up all the things I'm trying to forget about."
"I know it'll hard, but there's gonna be guards there and he'll be in handcuffs. They won't let him anywhere near you."
"That doesn't make me feel any better." She sighed. "I just have a bad feeling."
"Instead of thinking about what might happen if you do this, think about what will happen if you don't." I frowned. "Without a good witness they might let this monster back on the streets. That will put us and all of our friends in danger, especially Olivia and her family."
"Yeah, I guess you're right."
"This says the trial's not for another two weeks. Take time to think about it." I said.
"Yeah, I will." She nodded.
She still looked a little freaked out.
"Anything I can do?" I asked.
"Yeah, tell me where you're going next time. You really had me worried."
"Ok, I'm sorry. Next time I promise I'll tell you."
"Thank you." She said.
I didn't feel right lying to her. This is like what happened the first time that led to the worst few days of my life where Kira and I were separated. Our marriage isn't perfect now like it used to be. We still love each other so much, but it's like there's an invisible distance between us and neither one of us has made any effort to break through it. I'm the one who started this, I had to make it right.
"Kira, I don't want to lie to you again." I took a deep breath and grabbed her hand. "I wasn't visiting my mother's gravesite, I was at Kryptarian."
"Kryptarian? Why did you go there?" Kira asked.
"I went to see Jett. I had to set the record straight, let him know what he did."
"Oh." She frowned. "Is that true?"
"Yes. That's the honest truth." I said.
"What did he say?"
"He just said he didn't know you were pregnant, but not much else. He didn't even seem that sorry for what he did, even when I mentioned the baby."
"I don't know, maybe I deserve it." She frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"Where are our kids right now Lloyd? They're trapped on a deserted island and running out of food and water. Ashley and Ryder can handle themselves, but I didn't want Ethan going and we let him go anyway. Maybe it's for the best, I didn't deserve to be a mother again."
"Don't think like that. If they weren't on that island right now they'd be in the same position we were. Jett would've hurt them too. Sending them to that island was the best possible thing we could've done, but it wasn't our fault their ship crashed."
"Yeah, I guess I didn't think about it like that." Kira dried her tears. "I guess I just miss them."
"Would it make you feel better if I talked to Ryder again?" I asked.
"Yeah, I think it would actually." She smiled.
"Alright."
I walked her into the living room and made myself comfortable on the couch. I fell asleep and tried to contact Ryder. I entered the dreamscape with him...
"Dad?" I heard Ryder shout.
"Hey bud." I smiled. "How are you guys doing?"
"Could be better." Ryder said.
"What happened?"
"Allison's injury was too severe for her to survive without proper treatment. Amber took her to the hospital."
"What do you mean? I thought you all were stuck?"
"She borrowed some of Olivia's power and teleported there."
"What? They're here? Now?"
"They left half an hour ago."
"It's dangerous for Amber to absorb powers that haven't been fully developed." I warned. "It could have disastrous effects on her powers and herself if she uses it too much."
"I know, but it was an emergency. That's why she only took Allison. If she hadn't, she wouldn't have made it."
"I don't blame her for trying to help, but that won't work to get you all of you out of there." I frowned. "Are you any closer to finding a way back for everyone else?"
"I don't know, I've tried everything I can think of and nothing has worked."
"You said the VKA was there too. They must have a ship, right?"
"Yeah, but they refuse to leave until they have the scroll of airjitsu. Even if we offered them a deal, I doubt they'd keep their word or that tiny ship could fit all of us for the journey."
"Don't do that, that scroll is too important." I said. "There has to be another way."
"I've tried everything! It's no use. I guess we just live here now."
"Ryder, don't give up. Ninja never quit."
"Right, right. I know." He sighed. "We'll figure something out. Thanks Dad."
"Take care bud." I nodded.
I woke up and exited the dreamscape. I had to catch my breath. Kira was there holding my hand.
"What did he say?" She asked.
"It's a long story." I frowned.
We had a long conversation and I updated her on everything Ryder told me and how he was running out of ideas. Hopefully he could
figure something out before it was too late.
Back on the island...
Allison's P.O.V.:
Amber and I teleported back to the island. When we got there, they were all pretty upset with us.
"Allison, are you ok?" Ashley asked me.
"Yeah, I'm fine now." I nodded.
"I'm glad you guys are back, but we're almost out of food and water." Ryder frowned.
"The island's resources are depleting faster than anticipated. I am afraid if we do not find a way to get out of here in a week, you will all starve." Alex said.
"Maybe this will buy us some more time?" Amber showed them the box of supplies. "My parents got us a few things to make this easier on us."
She gave the box to Ryder and he started looking through it. He immediately started looking at the food my parents got for us.
"This is great Amber. This should last all of us at least another two weeks." He smiled.
"There's also medical supplies, new clothes for all of you, and a tarp in there." She said. "They kind of went a little overboard with the shopping spree."
"That's more than ok, you saved us Amber." Ryder smiled.
"It still is peculiar how the island's resources are depleting this rapidly." Alex said.
"Yeah." I nodded. "Let's see if I can figure it out."
I used my powers and slammed my fist into the ground. I closed my eyes and tried to feel the earth beneath me. I couldn't put my finger on it, but something definitely felt off.
"What is it Allison?" Amber asked.
"The Earth, something feels... weird." I frowned. "It's like the ground is weak, it's too unstable to support the flora and fauna the on the island."
"What does that mean?" Blake asked.
"It means the island is dying." I frowned. "That's why all the fish are swimming elsewhere and the trees are growing rotten fruit."
"Couldn't we save it?" Ethan asked.
"Maybe, but I don't know how we stop this." I frowned. "At this rate, the island won't last much longer."
"Maybe we can..." Matt started.
"Ninja!" We heard screaming from the jungle.
We all turned around and saw Marcus approaching our camp. We all got in a fighting stance, but he looked worried.
"Wait, I'm not here to fight. I need your help!" He said out of breath.
"Is this a trick?" Ryder crossed his arms.
"No, it's not. We really need your help."
"What's wrong?" Allison asked.
"It's Seth, he fell off a cliff and we can't get to him." Marcus explained.
"He's the master of wind right? Can't he just fly?" Blake asked.
"He landed on a ledge, but he took a hard hit. He's not moving and I think he's hurt." Marcus worried.
"Can't Zera just use her time power to reverse it?" Lily asked.
"She only has the power to stop and slow down time, she can't speed it up or reverse it." He said.
"Interesting." Alex pondered.
"I wouldn't be asking if I wasn't desperate. Please?" Marcus pleaded.
"Ninja, huddle." Ryder said.
We all formed a circle and began to talk this out.
"What do you think Ryder?" Amber asked.
"Yeah, do you think he's telling the truth?" Trent asked.
"I don't know, should we help him?" Jax asked.
"Why should we? They're the ones who took out our ship and stranded us on this piece of sand!" Blake complained.
"Well, Marcus did save my life. I'd say it's only fair we do the same for his friend." I said.
"I think we have some rope in that box my parents sent back with me." Amber said.
"Are you seriously considering this?" Lily said.
"Ryder, it is highly likely that this is a ploy to get us to abandon the chest so they can obtain the scroll." Alex advised. "Proceed with caution."
"Guys, we are ninja. If someone is in trouble we help them regardless of who they are or what they did." Ryder said.
"Alright, fine." Blake agreed.
"Ok, Alex, Blake, Trent, Matt, and Olivia, you guys stay here and guard the scroll just in case. The rest of us will go help Seth." Ryder said turning to Marcus. "Show us where he is Marcus."
"This way." He said.
Amber grabbed the rope, Ashley grabbed the first aid kit and we followed Marcus into the forest. We got to the ravine and I looked over and saw Seth laying on his back on a small ledge. He was unconscious and wasn't moving.
"Please, you gotta help him." Marcus said.
"What do you think Ashley. Is he breathing?" Ryder asked.
"I don't see his chest rising but it's hard to tell from here." Ashley said. "I'd need a closer look to be sure."
"Allison, do you think you could climb down there?" Ryder asked me.
"Yeah, that's not that far." I said.
"Are you sure cookie? That ledge looks unstable." Amber said.
"I'll be fine. Don't worry." I said.
"Ryder, can't I just form my dragon and fly down there?" Ethan asked.
"No, the ledge is too unstable. The force of your dragon's wings might cause it fall." He said.
"Then what's the plan?" Lily asked.
"Amber and I will hold onto one end of the rope. Allison, you take Ashley and climb down to Seth." Ryder said. "Ethan, Jax and Lily, start building a backboard for us to pull him up with. The more flat the better."
"Ryder, you're forgetting that I don't have my healing powers anymore." Ashley frowned.
"That may be true, but you've been interning for Mom at the hospital for months. You have more medical knowledge than the rest of us put together." Ryder assured her.
"Ok, I'll do my best." Ashley nodded.
"Ok, come on Ashley." I said.
"Be careful." Amber said touching my arm and absorbing my earth powers. "I love you."
"I love you too." I kissed her cheek. "Don't worry, I'll come back in one piece."
"You better, you're my Yang now." Amber laughed.
"Um guys, Seth is still down there." Marcus said.
"Ok guys, let's get to it." Ryder said.
We put Ryder's plan into action and we got the rope ready. The others held it while Ashley jumped on my back. We repelled down to where Seth was. Ashley got off my back and started looking at him.
"Ok Ash, do your thing."
Ashley's P.O.V.:
I felt his wrist and put my hand under his nose to see if he was breathing. I felt air coming out and his pulse was strong.
"Seth? Can you hear me?" I asked.
I opened his eyelid and his pupils were slightly dilated. I felt him over and checked his back. He definitely had a few broken ribs and his left leg was injured as well, but I couldn't tell if his back was hurt.
"How's he doing Ashley?" Allison asked.
"Well his pulse and breathing are strong. Definitely a few broken ribs, his left leg is at least sprained and he might have a concussion too but I can't rule out a spinal injury."
"Can you get him to wake up?"
"Yeah, let me try something."
I took the first aid kit out of my backpack and took the smelling salts out. I broke one right under his nose and it shocked him awake.
"Ahh! What are you guys doing here?" Seth looked at us.
"We're saving your life." I said.
"I don't need anyone's help!" Seth yelled. He tried to sit up but he couldn't move and held his sides. "Gah!"
"Oh, well if you're sure about that, we can leave." Allison said sarcastically.
"No!" He yelled. "Well, I mean you're already here, I might as well let you finish up."
"That's what I thought." Allison said. "Now hold still and listen to everything Ashley tells you."
"Ugh, fine." He rolled his eyes.
"Can you wiggle your toes for me?" Ashley asked.
Seth tried to move his toes and luckily was able to. That meant his spine was intact. I grabbed the bandages and started wrapping up his leg and his stomach. Once I got him stable enough, he was ready for transport.
"Ryder, we're ready!" I yelled up to my brother.
"We got it." Jax yelled back.
Jax and Lily lowered down a small raft made of long tree branches and leaves. It didn't look very pretty, but it would get the job done.
Allison and I grabbed it and started carefully sliding him onto it, but as we were almost done, the whole ground started shaking.
"What's going on?" I asked Allison.
She put her hand on the ground and tried to feel the Earth. She had a worried look on her face.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"The ground is unstable. It's as if the island is barely hanging on, like it's begging for help." She frowned.
"Is that really the biggest concern at the moment?!" Seth complained.
"It will be if this ledge goes." Allison looked down at the cliff.
"Hurry!" Seth shouted.
"We're working on it." I said.
"I'll try to stabilize the ground, you go with him." Allison said.
I nodded and finished getting Seth in the basket. I grabbed onto the side and told Ryder and Amber to pull us up. They started doing that and then the ground started shaking again. Allison tried her best, but she couldn't stop the quake. Luckily she was able to grab onto the rope before the whole ledge fell.
"Allison, are you ok?" Amber shouted from the top.
"Yeah, I'm good." She caught her breath.
Jax and Lily pulled us up in the basket and Allison climbed back up with the rope. Amber ran to hug her girlfriend and my brothers came to check on me. Marcus ran up to Seth.
"Looks like we got out of there just in time." Allison said.
"Are you ok Ashley?" Ryder asked.
"Yeah." I said. "That was close."
"Too close." Amber said, hugging her girlfriend.
"Ashley, will Seth be ok?" Marcus asked me.
"It doesn't look like he has any damage to the spinal nerve, so he should be fine but he'll need plenty of rest." I told him. "Those broken ribs aren't going to be easy to heal on the own, so tell him to take it easy."
"Ok. Thank you." He said.
He ran back over to Seth and tried to give him a hug, but Seth seemed really confused by it. Marcus backed away and I saw him blushing with embarrassment.
"I-I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that I..."
"Whatever, let's just get back to camp." Seth said.
"Thank you ninja." Marcus said.
Marcus took him under his shoulder and helped him walk away back in the direction of their camp. We packed up our stuff and started making our own way back, but when we arrived, we found Alex, Blake and Matt lying on the ground outside of the yurt. There were signs of fighting and our shelter was damaged.
"Oh no." Ryder frowned.
Olivia ran out from behind a tree and immediately ran to Jax and Lily. Ryder, Ethan, Amber and Allison ran to the others and tried to get them to wake up. I was looking for Trent but I couldn't find him anywhere.
"Olivia, tell us what happened." Lily said.
"They... They attacked us, and they took the scroll." She caught her breath. "And they... they took Trent."
To be continued...
