The Real Villain (Edited)
Ryder's P.O.V.:
I went into the forest with Ethan behind me. We were trying to catch up with Ashley. I know she wanted to help Trent, but he made up his mind and she needs to accept that. I wasn't going to bring Ethan with me, but he insisted he could calm Ashley down if her Oni side started to show again.
Our dad always said that our Oni powers were masked by our elemental powers. If we loose our actual powers, the Oni powers have a chance to come out if we get too angry or upset. That's why Ethan's are always out because his power is pure destruction, which is in direct relation to his Oni power. Since this is the first time Ashley lost her powers, her Oni side is getting its chance to emerge and I know that feeling all too well, it's scary if you don't understand it. Hopefully we can find Ashley before it was too late.
We went the path they usually take to get to the camp but then we heard a scream coming from deeper in the forest. We followed the sound and found Ashley sitting on a tree stump and crying. There were purple burn marks on the surrounding trees and she seemed really scared.
"Ashley!" I screamed and ran up to her.
"Are you ok?" Ethan asked.
"No." She frowned. "I... I don't know what's going on with me."
"Explain to us what happened." I said.
"I... I don't know." She frowned. "I was running back to their camp, but I saw someone in the forest. I thought it was Trent, but they were so fast. It's like they were fast forwarding through time itself. I tried to head back, but I got lost and then I started thinking about Trent and how I couldn't help him. I was so angry that I couldn't control myself."
"It's because your powers were keeping your Oni side in check." I explained. "Now that you don't have them, it'll be harder to keep it under control."
"Ryder you said my powers would be back by now." Ashley frowned.
"I don't know when they'll return Ashley." I frowned. "Could be today, could be next month. There's no way to tell."
"But until then, I'll just be useless." She frowned.
"Stop saying that, you're not useless." I said.
"I don't feel very useful." She frowned.
"Come on, let's get you back to camp." Ethan said.
"No!" She looked away and hugged her knees. "I'm a danger to everyone."
"Look Ashley, I know what you're going through." Ethan frowned. "How you feel right now is how I feel every day trying to keep my Oni side under control."
"Yeah, I've had my fair share of Oni moments too." I told her. "They can come up when we get too angry, but if you try hard enough you can keep it from happening."
"But what if I can't? What if I hurt someone?" Ashley looked up at Ethan.
Ethan looked away from her and frowned. I remember that time Ethan lost control and almost broke Ashley's arm with one hit from his powers. He was lucky Ashley was Oni too, or it could've been a lot worse. I can't imagine being on the other end of his powers.
"Oh Ethan, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to bring that up." Ashley frowned.
"It's ok, it's just... hard to think about it." Ethan frowned.
"That wasn't your fault Ethan, it was an accident." I told him.
"Yeah, it all worked out." Ashley said.
"I don't want to talk about it." Ethan frowned.
"The point is, we can help you Ashley, you just have to tell us when you're feeling like this. Ok?" I said.
"Ok." Ashley nodded.
I helped her up and she ran into my arms. Ethan joined us in the hug and I could see tears coming from her eyes.
"I just want Trent back." She frowned.
"I'm sorry Ash, but he made his choice." I sighed. "Maybe in time he'll see what team he should be on, but we need to let him figure that out on his own. Ok?"
"Ok." Ashley frowned.
She wasn't happy about it, but we finally got her to come with us back to our shelter. Amber and Blake were really worried that we didn't have Trent with us, but they didn't seem surprised.
"You didn't find him?" Amber frowned.
"I thought I did, but it couldn't have been him." Ashley frowned. "I'm so sorry guys."
"It's ok Ashley." Blake sighed. "Thanks for trying."
"I just hope he's ok." Ashley frowned.
"Everything will work out." I said putting my arm around my sister. "You'll see."
Trent's P.O.V.:
Now that Marcus had fully translated the scroll, him and I were trying to learn airjitsu. Zera and Lena had gone off to get water from the stream and Seth was still recovering so he was watching us train.
I knew how to do spinjitsu already, but Airjitsu was another story. It was hard to get it, especially because I was never as good at it as my siblings were.
I did my spinjitsu and hoped off a ramp we made. I tried to get the right position, but I couldn't do it fell to the ground. That was my fifth try. I sat up and spat the dirt out of my mouth.
"You're getting closer." Marcus said.
"Yeah, but not close enough." I frowned and headed back to start.
"You're a descendant of master Yang, shouldn't you already know Airjitsu?" Seth asked Marcus.
"My mother left the temple when Cole sat them free." Marcus said. "That's when she had me and when she passed, that's when I got the temple. I never met Master Yang and none of his teachings said anything about Airjitsu. Now I understand why."
"I still wonder how the scroll got here in the first place." I said. "I know it was stolen from the museum, but no one caught whoever it was."
"Isn't your mom a cop?" Marcus said.
"Yeah, she was shown the security footage, but she said it was like the footage was stuck in fast forward, and no amount of editing could slow it down." I shrugged.
"That's weird, but it still doesn't explain how it got here." Seth said.
"It's probably my grandfather playing tricks on me." Marcus said.
"I don't know, when I was a junior ninja, Allison said the island was dying. Do you think someone is doing this on purpose?" I said.
"Not sure, just try again." Marcus said.
"Ok."
I did spinjitsu and jumped off the ramp. I was able to position myself this time and a bubble formed around me. I flew upward for a few seconds and tried to land on my feet, but I landed on my back instead. Once I got up, I realized I had done it.
"Trent, you did it!" Marcus smiled.
"Yeah, just gotta work on the landings." I laughed, rubbing my sore back. "But it is pretty cool I was the first to learn Airjitsu."
"The girls are taking a while. I wonder if they got lost." Seth said.
"I'm sure they're fine." Marcus said.
Zera's P.O.V.:
I was walking through the woods with Lena going to the stream to get some water for our camp, but when we got there the stream was all dried up.
"Oh no." I frowned.
"That's strange." Lena said. "This stream was flowing so strongly yesterday."
"It's like someone reversed it." I said. "We need to investigate this."
"Do we have too?" Lena complained. "That sounds like a lot of work."
"Do you wanna drink seawater instead?"
"Ugh, fine." She rolled her eyes.
We kept looking around the stream and found a trail of footprints. We followed them to a small hut hidden in the forest. We approached it and I knocked on the door. All of a sudden I was surrounded by a yellow time bubble and it reversed me back and I landed in a bush. Lena ran to help me up.
"Was that... time powers?" I got up.
"I think so, that wasn't you was it?" Lena asked.
"No, I can't reverse time like that." I told her.
"Then, who did?" She asked.
We kept looking around and saw a figure hiding behind some bushes.
"Come out! We know you're there!" I said.
He came out of the bush and showed himself. He had long slick black hair and green eyes. His clothes were ripped and tattered and he looked skinny, he had definitely been here a long time.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"I'm Wyatt. Who are you guys?" He asked.
"I'm Zera and that's Lena." I said. "We got trapped on this island about 3 weeks ago."
"How long have you been here?" Lena asked.
"Almost 8 years." He frowned. "But I've never seen you before."
"That power you used, was that time?" Lena asked.
"Yeah I'm the master of time."
"Haha, that's impossible. I'm the master of time." I said.
"Prove it." He said.
"Fine."
I picked up a pebble and threw it far up in the air. I threw a small blue time bubble and made it slow down. Then right when it hit the ground, I made it stop with a red time bubble. Once it disappeared, the rock hit the ground.
"Do you believe me now?" I crossed my arms.
"That's nothing, watch this."
Wyatt took his hand and picked up a dead leaf on the ground. His hand glowed yellow and the leaf turned green and lively again. Then his hand turned green and the leaf turned brown again.
"What? T-That's impossible... I'm the only one here who can do that!"
"Wait, according to Ninjago history books, there were two original masters of time." Lena said. "Krux and Acronix. One could stop and slow down time, and the other speed it up and reverse it."
"Yeah, I know." I said.
"What are you saying?" He asked.
"I'm saying that both of you are the elemental masters of time, just in different ways." Lena said.
"Does that mean we're..."
"Related?!" We looked at each other.
"Not necessarily, but this is something that should be explored." Lena said.
"Do you know anything about your past?" I asked him.
"I don't remember anything about my parents." Wyatt frowned. "I was raised by a band of pirates since as long as I can remember. They forced me to work on their ship and reach into small spaces they couldn't to find treasure. When I was eleven, there was this big storm and the ship went down. I was the only one who made it and I've been surviving on this island ever since."
"And I was raised by a monk in the forest, but he disappeared when I was ten." I said. "I don't remember what happened before that."
"Well if you'd like, I think I have a spell that can answer your questions." Lena said.
"Really?" I asked.
"Yeah, it's a memory spell that reach down deep into the depths of your brain and uncover any memory you've ever had, even from right after you were born."
"What are you? A magician or something?" Wyatt crossed his arms.
"No, I'm a master of dark magic." Lena explained.
"Ok, you can try." Wyatt said. "But I don't think it's going to do anything."
"We'll see." Lena said.
She started to perform the spell and we saw a beam form out of my head and it projected onto a magic window. We looked through it together...
**********flashback**********
Narrator's P.O.V.:
Two newborn babies wrapped in rags were hiding behind some crates in an alleyway in a waterside village. There was canon fire coming from the ships off the bay and the villagers were evacuating farther inland.
One monk running inland and tripped and as he was getting up he heard the babies crying and started going towards the noise. He found them, picked them both up and tried to carry them to safety, but one of the invading pirates jumped in front of him and pulled out a sword.
He tried to fight him off, but it was hard with two babies in his hands. The monk dropped the boy baby and the pirate managed to catch him. The monk ran away with the girl baby and the pirate brought the boy baby back to the attacking ship.
********End of Flashback********
Zera's P.O.V.:
Lena had to stop it because she was exhausted. Wyatt and I looked at each other shocked out of our minds. We weren't just related, we were... twins.
"Wait, are you saying you're my... sister?" Wyatt asked.
"And that would make you my... brother." I said awkwardly.
We just stared at each other, not sure what to do. We couldn't think of anything else to say.
"Well, I'm going to head back and let you two catch up." Lena said getting up. "See you later?"
"Yeah, sure." I said, still in shock.
Lena started heading back and I looked back at Wyatt. How have I gone all these years without knowing I was a twin? My master never told me he existed, the question was why?
"Nothing to say?" Wyatt said.
"I... I don't know what to say." I frowned. "Why wouldn't Kisho tell me?"
"Who?"
"The monk from the memory." I said. "Kisho raised me as his own and we lived in a small hut in the forest. I grew up there, he trained me to use my powers, but one day he went out for food and never returned. I wandered off alone, met my friend Maizy, and she helped me for years until we joined the VKA. But we lost touch after she quit and we're on opposite sides now."
"I spent pretty much my entire life either on a pirate ship where no one talked to me unless they needed something done, or on this island all by myself. You're the first people I've seen in years."
"Well once we find a way to get out of this place, you can join our team and we can take you with us."
"No thanks." He refused.
"Why not?" I asked.
"Because I don't want to be on any kind of team again. Those pirates made me do all kinds of things for them, but out here I finally had the freedom to think for myself. I don't want to go back to that life."
"You don't understand, the island is dying. If you stay here, you're going to starve." I said.
"No, I don't think so." Wyatt said picking up a rotten coconut. He used his reverse powers on it and it turned ripe again. He threw it to me and I caught it. "Here, take one for the road. I'll see you around."
"Yeah, ok." I frowned.
I took the coconut and started walking back to camp. I hoped my brother would come to his senses, but I wasn't expecting that to happen any time soon.
