Home Free: Part 1
Kira's P.O.V.:
Kai came to pick me up from the courthouse. It was unusually fast and he was driving a car that I didn't recognize. I thought it was really strange.
"Kira, get in." Kai said with his window rolled down.
"Kai? You're here already? But Skylor just called you." I questioned.
"Yeah, I was on standby just in case anything went wrong." Kai said. "She thought it was a good idea to get a rental car too so Jett can't track us."
"Oh, alright." I said.
"Leave your phone here too, that way Jett won't hack into the signals and find you."
"Hang on, just let me turn my phone off and everything." I said.
I felt like that was a strange request, so I quickly grabbed a note pad and pen off the desk and wrote down the color, make, model, and license plate number of the car he was driving. I folded the note and hid it in my phone case and then I went out to meet Kai.
I got in the front seat and he started driving. The strange thing was that after a while, he started driving in the other direction. I've lived in that treehouse my whole life and not once did we have to go this way to get there. Something was very off.
"I don't think we're heading the right way." I said.
"Trust me, I'm going to take you somewhere where no one will find you." He said.
"Why does that not sound comforting." I said to myself.
He kept driving until we entered the birchwood forest. I had no idea where he was taking me, but I know for a fact that with Skylor's promotion on the line, Kai would never have disobeyed Skylor's instructions. Something was definitely wrong, and I knew I had to be careful until I could come back with Lloyd and Skylor. The only bright side was I know the kids were safe on that island and weren't anywhere near this nightmare.
Lloyd's P.O.V.:
Skylor was driving so fast back to the courthouse. I was frantically calling Kira's phone trying to get in touch with her, but she wasn't answering. I even tried the emergency tracking device on her phone, but that just led me back to the courthouse, meaning she left it there.
"Anything Lloyd?" Skylor asked.
"No, she won't pick up." I frowned. "I think she left her phone at the courthouse."
"I was afraid of that." Skylor sighed. "Usually a kidnapper will trick victims into leaving their phones behind so they can't be tracked."
"Oh man, that means we're right. Jett has Kira, and it's all my fault." I frowned.
"We can play the blame game later, right now we need to focus." Skylor said as we arrived. "Now remember, as of right now you're still in my custody, so behave yourself alright?"
"That guy has my wife and last time he almost killed her!" I yelled. "He's after my kids too, I can't lose anyone else to him, I just can't."
"And I will do everything I can, but you also have to remember what they teach us at the academy. Staying calm is key in any situation, it always leads to a better outcome."
"Yeah, you're right." I took a deep breath. "I promise I'll behave myself, let's just get my wife back."
Skylor nodded and we got out of the car. She grabbed two vests out of the trunk and put one on. She handed the other one to me.
"What's this for?" I asked.
"It's a bullet proof vest, just a precaution." She explained.
I nodded and put it on. We entered the courthouse and met up with Kai.
"Do you have anything?" Skylor asked Kai.
"I've asked around but no one can tell me anything. They're all too busy looking for Jett."
"We think Jett kidnapped Kira, we just don't know where he's headed." Skylor said.
"Wait, what is that?" I said looking at the desk. I walked up to it. "That's Kira's phone."
Skylor flashed her badge and took the phone as evidence. I picked it up and noticed the phone case was loose. I took it off and a note fell out. Written on it was a car description and a license plate number.
"Skylor, this is Kira's handwriting." I handed her the note. "She must've known there was something going on."
"Good eye Lloyd, we'll put an Amber Alert out the car right away." Skylor said as she went to make a phone call.
I waited with Kai and held my side. It was hurting even worse now.
"Lloyd, are you ok?" Kai asked.
"Not at all, I am trying my best not to be filled with rage right now." I said.
"No, I mean you're holding your side again." Kai pointed out.
"I'm not worried about this. I have to get Kira back." I said, still in pain.
"Whoa buddy, take a breath. I wanna save her too, but we're no good to Kira if you're not 100 percent. Ok?"
"I'm fine, the speed Skylor was driving just made it sore." I told him.
"Yeah, I know Skylor can be tough when she's in full cop mode, but she seems extra on edge." He said. "Did something else happen?"
"When I accidentally set Jet free, the judge gave us 24 hours to catch him and because she vouched for me, he put me in Skylor's custody and threatened to demote her back down to officer if we don't deliver." I explained.
"Oh, well that explains a lot." Kai said. "She worked really hard for that promotion. She's the only officer in the NCPD to make Sergeant with less than five years on the force, and she's the first female sergeant the department has ever had."
"Yeah, and now that by window is even shorter if we want him in custody before the kids get back."
"Oh ok, I see the problem now." Kai nodded.
"Ok, the Amber alert is out on the car, but it may be a while before we get any tips." Skylor came back.
"We don't have a while and neither does Kira. We have find her!" I yelled and coughed. The coughing made my side hurt even more.
"We will Lloyd, but the city is huge, if we look without a lead it'll just waste time." Skylor tried to calm me down.
"Here Lloyd, sit down." Kai said.
"I don't want to sit down! I need to find my wife!"
"Lloyd, I would not tick off Skylor if I were you." Kai whispered to me. "She will handcuff you to the chair."
"He's not wrong." Skylor crossed her arms.
"Ok, fine." I reluctantly sat down and took a deep breath. "I'm sorry, I just can't stand the thought of her being alone with that monster after what he did last time."
"I know how it feels. When you and Skylor got kidnapped by Harumi, I thought you would never be seen again, but you were both safe."
"That's different, Skylor is a cop, of course they're going to make finding her a top priority."
"She's a good cop Lloyd, she's caught Jet once, and I know she can do it again."
"At least last time I knew Kira wasn't alone with him." I frowned.
"We'll find her, don't worry." Kai said.
"I know we will, but what I don't know what she's going to look like when we do." I frowned. "That's what worries me."
All of a sudden my phone started ringing. It was Zane.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Lloyd, we have received a GPS signal on Borg's cloaking device." Zane said. "They seem to be headed towards the Birchwood Forest."
"Thank the first Spinjitsu Master!" I exclaimed. "Thanks a million Zane."
"You are most welcome." He replied. "The immense cold of the forest makes the tech difficult to track once they enter. I will inform you if I get any more leads, however I would not get my hopes up."
"Well it's a good place to start. Thanks Zane." I hung up the phone.
"Lloyd, we just ran the plate on the car. We contacted the owner and he said it was stolen from a gas station right after the trial." Skylor said.
"Does it have a GPS tracker on it?"
"Unfortunately that model doesn't have one." Skylor frowned. "Jett must've known that."
"It's ok, Zane called me. He tracked down Borg's tech entering Birchwood Forest, but he can't track it any further."
"Ok, let's go. I'll call the precinct and have everyone searching by the time we get there." Skylor said.
"What can I do?" Kai asked.
"Kai, I need you to work with our friends and see if you can find out where that portal is going to open. We have to keep the kids hidden in case we can't catch him in time."
"Can't Lloyd just use that weird Oni communication thing to ask Ryder?" Kai asked.
"I wish I could, but we can only use it once a day." I frowned. "Ryder just learned how to do it and I don't want to overwhelm him."
"Come on Kai, I'm counting on you." Skylor said.
"Alright, I'm on it Serge." Kai gave her a salute.
I stood up and held my side again. It was really hurting me, but that was the least of my problems.
"Lloyd, are you sure up for this?" Kai asked.
"I have to find my wife above all else and no little setback is going to stop me." I said.
"Ok, let's go." Skylor said. "Good luck babe."
"You too. Be careful." Kai gave her a hug and kissed her.
Skylor helped me walk to her police car and sat me down in the front seat. She turned on the lights and siren and started a b-line for the Birchwood Forest. I was worried sick about Kira, I was so scared for her life being alone with that monster. I just really hope we can find her alive, for both her and the kids' sake.
Kira's P.O.V.:
Kai kept driving me and I noticed we were entering the Birchwood Forest. I thought that was strange because Skylor said to take to me the treehouse, a place that Jett didn't know about, so why were we going the complete opposite direction?
"Wait, I'm confused, why are we in the Birchwood Forest?" I asked him.
"Oh uh, Jett figured out where we were taking you, so Skylor and I decided to take you here instead." Kai said.
"Yeah, I'm sure way out here would be better than the monastery anyway." I said.
"Yeah, the monastery." Kai nodded.
I knew it, Kai was going to take me to the treehouse, not the monastery. My suspicions were correct and this wasn't Kai, but Jett in disguise. I couldn't let him know I was onto him yet, but I also felt very unsafe around him. He was after me and this was exactly what he wanted.
"So, where exactly are we going out here?" I asked.
"There's an abandoned laboratory out here a few miles north." He said.
"Right, where you discovered Zane was a nindroid." I remembered.
"Right." He nodded.
While he wasn't looking, I looked though the glovebox and found a pen and an old fast food receipt. I wrote down a note on the back and left it in the box. It's obvious this was a stolen vehicle, but I couldn't bring that up yet. I had a better idea to get him to reveal everything.
"You know, I kinda feel bad for Jett." I said.
"No you don't, you're just sad you lost your baby." He said. "How was I... I mean he supposed to know you were pregnant?"
"I am sad about it, but I also understand what it's like to lose someone. You already know I lost my parents when I was really young and my grandmother died when I turned twelve. I was all alone until I met my husband years later."
"Ok but what does that have to do with anything?"
"Skylor did some digging into Jett's past and I looked farther into it while I was laid up at the hospital. I found out he lost both his parents in a car accident when he was only 13, and had to take care of his little sister all by himself, she was only six at the time. Later in life, Emma got sick and..."
"It wasn't Emma! It was Emily." He yelled.
"Oh, and how would you know that?" I crossed my arms.
"I... uhh... Skylor told me. From her research files. Yeah." He stuttered. "You know how I like to get things accurate."
"Anyway, Emily got diagnosed with a terminal illness and she battled it for three years. During that time she was bedridden and revived at least twenty two times, and that's why she opted for a DNR, so she wouldn't suffer anymore."
"She only suffered because you didn't save her!" He screamed.
"She didn't want to be saved. I mean, she did, just not in the way he wanted." I frowned.
"My sister is gone because of you!" He yelled. "There is nothing you could say that can bring her back, and you deserve to have lost that baby. Maybe now you'll understand what I lost that day!"
"Your sister? What you lost that day?" I smirked. "That's weird, because I thought I was talking to my friend Kai, and he would never say those things to me, would he?"
"Well I... uhh..."
"Face it Jett, you're not as clever as you thought." I said.
He took off his mask and revealed his face, throwing it in the back seat. Seeing his face again drove all the memories back through my head, but I couldn't let him see I was scared.
"Whatever, you're injured. It's not like you're going to jump out of the moving car in the snow." He laughed.
"You're right, but I'm not worried." I shrugged.
"And why shouldn't you be?"
"Because you were stupid enough to kidnap the wife of the former green ninja. Lloyd will stop at nothing to find me and when he does, you'll be sorry."
"And your said husband was also the one who helped me escape." He laughed. "You said it yourself, you're having issues with your marriage. Are you sure he's coming for you?"
"He's working out some anger issues, but if there's one thing I know about Lloyd, it's that he always puts his family first. He will always find a way."
"We'll see about that won't we?"
"What are you...?"
All of a sudden he swerved the car off the road and crashed us into a tree. I hit my head on dashboard and passed out...
***back on the island***
Ryder's P.O.V.:
We were still trapped in that cave. I was doing my best to keep everything held together, but it was all falling apart. Alex and Matt were trying desperately to fix the portal, the lack of oxygen was causing Trent's asthma to flare up so Ashley and Blake were helping him, Jax's claustrophobia was making him have a panic attack and Lily and Olivia were trying to calm him down, and Amber and Allison were using earth powers to keep more tremors from happening, meaning the rest of the ceiling would come down on top of us.
"That's it Trent, slow breaths." Ashley said, trying to coach him through it.
"It's ok Ash." He said breathing. "It's not as... bad as last time."
"Are you done with that portal yet?" Seth asked angrily.
"We're working on it." Matt said. "I've never seen this type of technology before."
"How is it coming Alex?"
"The damage is more extensive than I initially thought, but I have full confidence we can fix it within the two hour timeframe I originally predicted." Alex said.
"Good, keep going." I said. I walked over to Allison who had her ear to the ground. "What are you doing?"
"The ground. Remember what I said earlier about how the ground was screaming?" Allison asked and I nodded. "Well it still is. It's like this whole island is rigged to break apart any minute."
"That explains the tremors." I frowned.
"I can feel the tremors coming. I can use my powers to counteract them, but I don't know how long I can keep it up." Allison said.
"Just as long as it takes us to get the portal open." I said.
"Yeah, and I'll be here as backup." Amber smiled, touching her shoulder and absorbing her power. "I got your back cookie."
"Thanks ginger snap." Allison smiled.
"Does anyone else feel like the walls are closing in on us?" Jax said panicking. "I mean that can't be just me right?"
"Jax it's ok, breathe." Lily said trying to talk him through it. "Just think about how good it would be to home."
"Yeah, I just need to close my eyes and think open thoughts." He closed his eyes and sat in the middle of the cave.
"Ryder, I can teleport Jax outside of the cave for a few minutes." Olivia said.
"Olivia, your powers are still uncontrollable, and we have no idea how deep these rocks go. You could end up teleporting yourselves under 100 feet of rocks." I said.
"Oh yeah, I didn't think about that." Olivia frowned. "Yeah, probably not the best idea."
"Don't worry sis, one day you'll be great at using those powers." Lily said.
"Yeah, I guess." She sighed.
"Ugh! Not again." Ethan screamed, holding his head.
"What's wrong Ethan?" I asked.
"The vision, it's back, and it's stronger this time." He held his head. "I... I feel like the time is getting closer."
"Ethan, I told you most visions are just a warning, you can still stop them."
"Not this one, I just know it's going to happen and I can't stop these thoughts. What if I end up doing something I can't turn back from?"
"It's all going to be okay." I said.
We felt the ground start to rumble again and Allison was struggling on the ground. Amber got down to help her and together they were able to stabilize the ground. Afterwards they were both exhausted.
"Great job you two." I said.
"Thanks, but... we don't know how long we can keep this up." Allison caught her breath.
"Hang in there guys, just one more hour and then we'll be home." I said.
I just didn't know what we were going to find when we got there.
