The New Mayor
Seliel's P.O.V.:
It had been two weeks since Cole and Allison left. I was in Nom staying with Donna until we found a new mayor to take over, which was proving harder than we thought. Plus it wasn't helping that I wasn't feeling well.
"Here sweetie, this should settle your stomach." Donna laid some tea on the table.
"Thanks." I said as I took a sip and continued looking at the files on the table.
"Lots of applicants ha?" Donna set down.
"Yeah, this is pretty much half of everyone in town. It's really hard to find someone to fill my father's shoes."
"I would do it myself but I'm not as young as I used to be."
"I know Mom, don't worry, I'll figure something out."
I kept looking at the files and got a headache again. I had been getting them since Cole and Allison left along with nausea and stomach aches. At first I thought it was because I was crying over losing my father, but it had been a while since the funeral so it couldn't be that. I couldn't figure it out.
"Another headache dear?" Donna noticed.
"Yeah, I don't get why this has to happen right now." I said.
"That's just the way life goes sometimes." Donna looked at me. "Are you sure you don't want me to take you to the clinic? You don't look well."
"No, I have to finish reviewing these." I said. "I think I'm just hungry."
"I can make you a sandwich."
"Thanks but I can do it."
I got up and started walking to the fridge. Before I could get there I lost my balance and almost fell over before Donna caught me.
"Seliel, are you ok?"
"I think so, I just got dizzy."
"Alright, let's go to the clinic."
"Fine, but just to prove to you there's nothing wrong."
I finally let Donna take me to the clinic and they ran a few tests to see what was going on. Technology in Nom wasn't as up to date as it is in other parts of Ninjago, so they took a bit longer than usual. We were there about four hours before the doctor came back with results.
"Well Seliel we have found the source of your problem." He looked at his clipboard. "It seems that you're pregnant."
"What?" I was shocked.
"Yep, by the looks of my charts, you're a little over two weeks along. Is there anyone you'd like me to call for you?"
"That's ok, my husband's in Ninjago City right now and I wanna tell him myself." I told him.
"Of course. Just make sure you watch what you eat and..."
"Yeah I have a daughter already. I know what to do." I told him.
"Well ok, you just stay and rest and then when you're feeling better you're free to go."
"Thank you." I nodded as the doctor left the room.
I looked at my stomach and frowned. I couldn't believe that I was going to be mom again, but why did it have to be right now?
"You don't seem happy about this Seliel." Donna frowned. "What's going on?"
"I am happy, it's just Cole and I agreed that we didn't want any more kids." I sighed.
"You don't think Cole and Allison will be happy about this?" She asked.
"No, I'm sure they'd be thrilled. Allison has been asking for a sibling since she was four and Cole is always saying that he misses having babies around now that Allison's all grown up."
"Then what are you worried about?"
"This is just really bad timing. Allison is going to be in college soon and we were ready to move on with our lives, but I guess destiny had other plans."
"Well that's the thing about destiny, it always has a way of outsmarting us." Donna said
"You got that right." I laughed. "I'm glad you're here with me Mom."
"Oh honey, you don't have to call me mom anymore."
"I don't do it because I have to, I do it because I want to." I smiled. "It doesn't matter how we're related, you're always going to be my mom."
Donna smiled and gave me a hug. I could see the tears in her eyes and I cried with her. It killed me that my father wasn't around to meet this new baby and that Cole wasn't here to share in this moment with me, but at least I had Donna here.
After a few hours I was feeling better so Donna took me home in her car. There was a storm coming in so I was watching the raindrops on the window. During the ride I got a text from Cole:
>>>>>•Seliel's Phone•<<<<<
Cole: Hey honey.
Seliel: Hey.
C: The insurance company
contacted me and said they
payed for your visit to the
clinic in Nom. Is everything ok?
S: Yeah, it wasn't for me it was
for Donna. Something came up
and she hasn't got all my dad's
insurance sorted out yet so I let
her use ours. The doctor said it
was ok because she's technically
family. I hope that's ok.
C: Oh yeah that's
fine. Is Donna ok?
S: Yeah she's alright, she had a
little cold and wanted to make
sure it wasn't something more
serious. That's all.
C: Ok, I'm glad she's
alright. Tell her I said
get well soon.
S: I will, I'll talk to
you tomorrow.
C: Ok. I love you.
S: Love you too. Bye.

I put my phone away and kept looking out the window. I put my hand on my stomach.
"Are you ok? Do you feel nauseous? I can pull over." Donna said.
"No I'm fine, I just can't stop thinking about how Cole is going to take the news." I sighed.
"I thought you said he'd be thrilled."
"He will be, but I know my husband. The minute he finds out he's going to come to Nom so he can be with me every second of the day, which is so sweet and everything, but I've got way too much on my plate with trying to find a new mayor and now this. Plus I know Allison wouldn't like it up here and I would hate to drag her into this."
"So you've decided not to tell them?"
"I will tell them, just not right now. It's just better this way. They'll know when the time is right."
"Well it's up to you, and if you need any help I'll always be here for you." Donna said.
"I know." I smiled. "Thank you."
All of a sudden the rain became heavier and heavier. Donna couldn't see and she swerved off the road into a ditch. I was a little banged up, but luckily nothing hit my stomach so the baby was probably ok. Donna was still awake and didn't look that hurt either, but we were stuck and the rain kept filling the ditch. We were trying to kick the doors open but they didn't budge. The car started filling up with water.
I started looking around for something to break the windows, but before I could we saw a blurry figure walk to the car and use a crowbar to open the door. All the water spewed out of the car. It was raining so hard we couldn't see his face.
"Follow me." He yelled.
I took Donna's hand and we followed the man into his car. After we caught our breath, I realized who he was.
"Dillon?" I looked at him.
"Hey Seliel, funny seeing you around here." Dillon smiled.
"You know him?" Donna looked at me.
"It's kind of a long story, you see..."
"He's Cole's cousin." I interrupted. "Dillon, this is my stepmom Donna."
"Oh I see." Donna nodded. "Well thank you for saving us back there."
"Hey I just happen to be at the right place at the right time." He shrugged.
"The Dillon I know would've drove right past us." I said.
"I'm not that person anymore Seliel. Back then I was young and stupid, but I'm grown up now." Dillon said.
"That's great to hear." I smiled.
"Oh, Seliel are you ok? I hope the accident didn't hurt the baby." Donna worried.
"Nothing hit my stomach so I think it's ok." I said to her.
"Wait, baby?" Dillon questioned. "Your pregnant?"
"I just found out today and please don't tell anyone, especially Cole." I told him.
"Alright, do you want me to drive you to the clinic?" He asked.
"No just take us home." I said.
"Seliel, I think it would be a good idea to have you checked out, for the baby's sake at least." Donna said.
"Yeah, I guess that's best." I frowned. I didn't want to go, but I would like to be absolutely sure the baby was ok.
Dillon drove us back to the clinic and we walked back in. I set down and the doctor put his stethoscope on my stomach. His eyes lit up as he listened. I wasn't sure what to think of it.
"Is something wrong?" I asked.
"No no, your babies heartbeats sound pretty strong."
"Oh that's a relief cause I... wait did you say heartbeats? As in, more than one?" I asked.
"Yep, two to be exact." He nodded. "And there appears to be no lasting impact from the wreck since it's so early in your pregnancy."
"Two babies?" My jaw dropped.
"Yep, congratulations." He smiled.
I just set there absolutely speechless. Twins? How could we have twins? I didn't know how to feel. I was overwhelmed but also so happy at the same time. I only hoped that Cole would feel the same way.
Once they made sure we were ok, they let us go. Dillon agreed to drive us back home and even came inside and made us dinner.
"Wow you have really changed." I said.
"Yeah, I was sorry to hear about your dad." He frowned.
"Thanks, but it gives me peace that he isn't suffering anymore." I said.
"So I guess you're going to go back home now that you've got a baby on the way."
"I would but I can't just leave my whole village behind without a mayor." I frowned.
"Oh that's right." Dillon thought about it.
"You know Seliel, you don't have your village to worry about now, you also have the baby and you can't take care of him or her unless you take care of yourself first." Donna said.
"Actually they found something out at the clinic. I actually have two babies plus myself." I sighed.
"Well then you definitely need to go back." Donna smiled.
"I want to more than anything, but I can't. Not until I find a new mayor." I frowned. "I made a promise to Dad that his village would be taken care of."
"I promised my dad I would get a job, but no one is hiring in my village." Dillon griped.
"Really?"
"Yeah, after he found out I wanted to get married he said I wasn't responsible enough, so the only way he'll give us his blessing is if I get a job."
"You're getting married?" I questioned.
"If I get a job yeah." He sighed. "Charlie and I really love each other. I really want to propose but I would need my father's permission."
"He sure was in a hurry to marry us." I laughed. "What makes this any different."
"Well, you see, Charlie is... a guy." He blushed.
"Oh I see." I nodded. "And you're dad is upset by this?"
"Not exactly." He said. "I've known Charlie for years and my dad actually wants him and I to get married, but he thinks I'll react the way I did with you all those years ago."
"Well I'm sure we can find you a job in Nom, there's an opening for a new mayor." I winked.
"Yeah, your caring, have experience, you're a part of the family and you saved my life. You're the perfect person for the job."
"Me?" He questioned.
"Yes, you're perfect for it. Plus if you can get all of the paperwork done by Friday I can be back with Cole and Allison this weekend." I smiled.
"And once I'm mayor I won't need my father's blessing." Dillon smiled. "I'll do it."
I gave Dillon a hug and went to pack my bags. I was so happy that I was leaving the town in such great hands.
