The Christmas Miracle (Epilouge)
Cole's P.O.V.:
I was at home with Kirby, Allison and Seliel, who was now pretty far along in her pregnancy. She was due in a few weeks and we were busy trying to make it through the holidays. It was Christmas Eve and we were so busy getting ready for tomorrow, we weren't really paying attention to getting all the stuff for the babies that were coming any day now.
"Dad I'm running out of wrapping paper." Allison yelled from upstairs.
"Alright, I'll get some while I'm out." I said. I walked into the kitchen. "Mmm Christmas dinner smells great."
"Yes, but you can't eat it till tomorrow bro." Kirby laughed.
"It's really nice of you to help us out with the holidays this year." I said to my brother. "With the twins coming right after Christmas, we could really use the help."
"It's no problem. I'm happy to help." Kirby smiled. "Hey where is Seliel anyway?"
"She's taking some time for herself. Christmas meant a lot to her and her father and this is the first Christmas she has to spend without him."
"I'm sure that's tough, especially with the babies coming soon." Kirby frowned.
"Yeah." I nodded. "Anyway, I gotta get some last minute shopping done. You wanna come with me?"
"No thanks, I'll hold down the fort here."
"Thanks Kirb."
I gave him a hug and walked out the door to my car. As I was going to the store, I couldn't shake this feeling that something big was going to happen today, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Oh well, I'm sure it was nothing.
Seliel's P.O.V.:
I was in my bedroom and I wasn't feeling well at all. I didn't want Cole to know yet, but I had been having contractions pretty much all day. They had gone from a few hours apart to twelve minutes apart so I knew I was in labor. They were definitely ready to come out, I just wasn't sure if we were ready for them.
We didn't even have a room set up for them, just two cribs in our bedroom. We didn't even have any of Allison's old baby stuff because we were sure we were done having kids. There was absolutely no way we were ready.
I tried my best to keep it together and walked into the kitchen with Kirby. He took one look at how sweaty and tired I was and he knew instantly something was wrong.
"Whoa Seliel, are you ok?" He asked.
"I'm fine, it's just the stress of the holidays." I lied and sat down holding my stomach.
"Are you sure? You look like your in..."
"Don't say it." I snapped.
"But are you?"
"Yeah, probably." I sighed.
"Well come on, we have to get you to the hospital."
"No, we're not ready for them yet." I said.
"But it's snowing outside. If we wait much longer we won't be able to get there." He said.
"But..." I screamed in pain as another contraction came.
"I'm sorry but I don't think the babies are going to wait." Kirby smiled.
"Mom? What's going on?" Allison came downstairs.
"Allison, grab your coat and call your father. Tell him to meet us at the hospital." Kirby said.
"Ok." She nodded and quickly ran back upstairs.
Kirby walked me to his car and Allison jumped in the backseat. We were on the way to hospital to have the twins, whether we were ready or not, here they come.
Cole's P.O.V.:
I was walking back to my car from the mall with the last few presents for my family. I had accidentally left my phone in the car and when I picked it up I had 22 voicemails and 3 texts from Allison. I knew something had to be wrong.
I clicked the first voicemail and heard my daughter's voice.
"Hey Dad, just calling to let you know that Mom is in labor and we want you to meet us at the hospital. Ok bye."
That message was sent over half an hour ago. I tried to call Allison, Seliel, and even Kirby but the snow was becoming so thick it was blocking my phone signal. I tried to start my car but nothing would work. The battery was totally shot.
"Ok Cole, time for an old school method of transportation." I said to myself.
I got out of the car and started using my powers to create my dragon, but as your kids get stronger with their powers, yours get weaker. My powers still worked a little bit, but my elemental dragon was a different story. I couldn't do it.
It was freezing cold so I ran back inside the mall to warm up. I saw a security guard over by the fountain so I tapped her in the shoulder, but when she turned around I recognized her.
"Wait, Skylor? What are you doing here?" I asked.
"Oh hey Cole. I'm just here as extra security for the holiday rush." She answered. "What are you doing here?"
"Look it's a long story but Seliel is in labor and I need to get to the hospital right now and my phone won't get any service and my car won't start and I'm going to miss it if I don't get there soon."
"Well I would love to give you a ride, but the road we need to take hasn't been plowed yet." Skylor frowned. "Sorry, but there's no way to get there from here."
"What?!" I panicked.
"Relax, it'll be plowed in a few hours. But we do have a pay phone in the security room I can let you use."
"Great." I nodded.
She took me to the security room and I used the pay phone to call Seliel. She picked up and I heard her screaming into the phone. Then I heard Allison's voice.
"Dad? Is that you?" She asked.
"Yes it's me. I'm so sorry I just got to a working phone. Are the babies here yet?" I asked.
"Not yet, but the doctor says any minute now." I heard Kirby say.
"Cole why aren't you here yet? Are you ok?" I heard Seliel yell.
"I'm fine, I'm at the mall with Skylor. There's a lot of snow on the ground and the car won't start, but I will find a way to be there in time, I promise."
"Please hurry." She said in between breaths. "I love you."
"I love you too." I frowned. "See you soon."
I hung up the phone and turned to Skylor.
"Did you miss it?" Skylor asked.
"Not yet, but there's not much time left." I frowned and sat at a table. "Those babies are going to be here any minute, and now have to explain to them why the worst dad in the world wasn't there on Christmas Eve, the day they were born."
"Cole, that doesn't make you a bad father. So you missed one moment, it doesn't mean you won't be there for the rest."
"I know but the first second they're on this earth, when they open their eyes for the first time and they wrap their tiny little hands around your finger, that's a moment I want to be there for." I stood up.
"You know what, I think I might just have an idea." Skylor said running to the pay phone.
I wasn't sure what she was doing, but a few minutes later she walked me back outside where I saw Kai landing our dragon Pebbles in the parking lot.
"Skylor, what did you do?" I looked at her.
"Well I called in a favor. Consider it your Christmas present." She winked.
"Thank you so much!" I hugged her. "Merry Christmas."
"Merry Christmas." She smiled. "Now you better hurry if you want to get there before they do."
"Thanks again."
I immediately hopped on top of Pebbles and flew to the hospital. I immediately ran into the delivery room and met up with Seliel and Kirby. Kirby left and I was able to coach her through the births of our two healthy baby boys.
The first one we named Cole Albert Brookstone Jr. or CJ for short. The second one we named Benjamin Lou Brookstone, or Ben for short.
"Should we take them home so we can all celebrate Christmas together?" I asked.
"Well we aren't really ready. I mean we barely have anything we need." Seliel frowned.
"I think we have everything we need right here." I smiled at my newborn sons.
We took Seliel home and we all had the best Christmas ever.
