Return of the Overlord: Part 3
Garmadon's P.O.V.:
I was with Ethan in the treehouse. He was still pretty upset about what happened, but now that he'd had time to calm down he was feeling a little better. I was hoping I could talk some since into him because we were running out of options and out of time.
"Ethan?" I approached him. "I went to the nearby garden and picked you some grapes."
"Not hungry." He pouted.
"Ok, than do you want to take a hike with me?" I asked.
"No. I don't deserve to do anything fun." He frowned.
"I get it, you made a mistake and someone got hurt, I have made many mistakes myself." I said.
"I know, my dad told us the stories."
"I bet he didn't tell you this one."
Ethan turned around and gave me his full attention. A rare occurrence from a four year old.
"I... I once hurt your father. I hurt him so bad that he almost didn't make it." I frowned.
I saw him standing in the middle of Kryptarian Prison, he was all alone, vulnerable, easy prey. He didn't want to fight me, he was there to reason with me, but I refused to listen.
We fought. He was jumping all over the place trying to avoid my attacks, but I still found a way to hit him. I picked him up by the neck.
"D-don't do this." He struggled. "I'm your son!"
I looked him in the eyes. "I have no son."
I took him and threw him into the wall. He flew from room to room until he reached the outside of the prison. And once all was said and done, I just walked away.
"But he was ok, right?" Ethan asked.
"Yes, but the other ninja had to risk their powers to save him." I frowned. "If they hadn't, than your dad wouldn't be here."
"And you just walked away?" Ethan frowned.
"Yes, because afterwards I felt nothing. No remorse. No sympathy. Nothing. That's the difference between you and me. You feel bad for what you did for your sister and that means you're more human than I ever was."
"Ok but that was different. You wanted people to fear you."
"That's true I did, but I changed and now your dad and I are good. And if he can forgive me for that, I'm sure your sister will forgive you too."
"You think?"
"I know." I put out my hand. "Now the fait of the world is at stake, and you're sitting here throwing a tantrum. So are you going to fight like the ninja you're meant to be, or hide like a wimp for the rest of your life?"
Ethan thought for a minute, but then he stood up and grabbed my hand. We both smiled at each other. I knew he was gonna be ok.
Now I just had to take him back to the monastery, but the problem was how we would do so. Because I had given up my Oni powers, I was no longer able to form my dragon, and in his relaxed state, there was no way Ethan could run all the way home. We only had one option.
"Ethan, are you ready to form a dragon?" I asked him.
"What? You think I'm ready to form my own dragon?" He got excited.
"Yep, you wanna give it a try?"
"Oh yeah! Let's do this!" He smiled.
He was having trouble getting it to work at first, but once he figured it out a huge purple dragon appeared from out of nowhere. Ethan looked so happy.
"Look Grandpa! I did it!" He yelled.
"Great job my boy." I smiled. "Come on, let's get back to the monastery."
I hopped on the dragon with Ethan and helped him fly it back to the monastery. If he was strong enough to create a dragon at this age, hopefully he'd be strong enough to save the universe as well, because he was right about one thing, he is Ninjago's only hope.
Lloyd's P.O.V.:
I arrived at the monastery and all my friends were there with their families. Ryder took the kids outside in the training yard for some extra training. I stayed and talked to the parents about everything that had happened and what Harumi and Akamu had told me about the Overlord and his plans and Ethan's roll in the whole thing.
"So let me get this straight, the fait of all Ninjago rests on a four year old with uncontrollable powers that could potentially destroy it?" Jay summed it up.
"Pretty much." I sighed. "But let's not forget that four year old is my son, and I believe he can do this."
"Is Ashley ok?" Kai asked.
"Kira's at the hospital with her now." I said. "Last I heard they were about to hear from the doctor."
While we were talking, Jay got a phone call and stepped into the hallway to take it. Nya followed him.
"What was that about?" Cole asked Kai.
"No idea. They've been so secretive lately." Kai said.
"I wonder what's going on with them." Seliel said.
"Anyway, that's not our concern right now." I said.
"Axel said that the army would stop the ninja." Zane said. "Is that what he needs the vengestone for?"
"As far as I know." I said. "Akumu said he got the VKA to gather 300 tons of vengestone for him."
"And their powers will be rendered useless." Pixal frowned.
Jay and Nya came back into the room. They looked really excited.
"What are you guys so happy about?" I asked.
"Well, we were hoping to keep it a surprise, but..." Nya grabbed Jay's hand and smiled. "Jay and I are adopting a baby."
"What?!" Everyone shouted.
"And it's about to be born so we have to go." Jay said a little panicked.
"Wait guys, look." Kai said turning up the TV.
"This is Gayle Gossip from NGTV News reporting live from downtown Ninjago City where warriors made of stone are attacking the city. It is unclear what the warriors are after, but one thing is for sure, they do not come in peace. I'll be back with more details after these messages."
"Oh no." Cole frowned.
"Kira and Ashley are probably coming home in that right now." I frowned.
"We have to make it to the hospital before the baby's born." Nya said to Jay. "If we aren't there on time they could reconsider and give it to somebody else."
"It's ok Nya, we'll find a way." Jay said to her.
All of a sudden we heard something go down in the training yard. I ran outside and it was Ethan driving a giant purple elemental dragon with my father riding on the back. Before he could land it, he ran out of energy and his dragon disappeared. Luckily my dad was able to catch him before he hit the ground.
"Ethan!" I ran up to them. Ethan was all but unconscious.
"Daddy?" He said weakly.
"He formed an elemental dragon." My dad said. "It took a lot out of him but he should be alright after a while."
"Dad, we don't have a while. The invasion is starting now." I said.
"Anything we can do Lloyd?" Cole asked.
"Yeah, take Ethan inside and make sure he gets some rest. He'll need to be in fighting shape if the overlord finds him." I said.
I handed my sleeping son to Cole who took him inside with Seliel. Jay and Nya were looking frantic.
"Lloyd, we have to go now." Nya said. "That baby is coming sooner than later."
"I know Nya, but it's not safe right now." I frowned. "Look, Kira's still there so I'll text her and see what she can do. Ok?"
Nya and Jay nodded and I took out my phone:
—————{{{Lloyd's Phone}}}—————
Lloyd: Hey Kira, are
you guys ok?
Kira: Ashley's arm is sprained,
but we're doing ok. Might not
be home for a while because
the whole hospital is on lockdown
because of some kind of city
emergency.
L: Well I need you to
check on a patient for
Jay and Nya.
K: Why? Is someone hurt?
L: No but they're adopting a
baby and the mother went
into labor. It's being born
any minute and we have
no way of getting them
there in time.
K: I'll see what I can find
out. Who's the patient?
L: They said her name
is Olivia Benson.
K: Ok I'll check in on her.
Did Ethan come home?
L: Yeah. He learned how to use
his dragon. It wiped him out
but he's resting now.
K: Ok. I'm glad he's safe.
L: Me too, I just hope he
knows what's coming to him.
K: He can do it.
Stay safe Lloyd.
L: You too. Love you.
K: Love you too. Bye.

Kira's P.O.V.:
I put my phone down and looked back at Ashley on the bed. The doctor had confirmed that her arm wasn't broken, but it was sprained and it would be in a sling for about two weeks. Given how hard Ethan hit her, I was surprised it wasn't any worse than that.
"Mom?" Ashley looked at me. "Did Ethan ever come home?"
"Yes he did sunshine." I nodded. "I just got done texting your father and he said Grandpa brought him home."
"Is he ok?"
"Don't worry he'll be fine." I said getting up. "I'll be right back honey, I have to go check on something."
"Can I come with you? Please? I'm so bored in here." Ashley begged.
"Alright, but keep that sling on ok? The last thing we need is for you to hurt it again."
"Deal." She nodded.
I helped her out of the bed and we took the elevator to the reception desk on the maternity floor. I went up to the desk.
"Hello, how can I help you?" The receptionist asked.
"Hi, I'm looking for a patient who's in labor. Olivia Benson." I said.
"Ok." She typed it in her computer. "Oh, are you one of the adoptive parents?"
"No, but I'm friends with them. They're running late and they asked me to check on her." I said.
"Well I can't let you in unless you're one of the parents." She said. "Sorry."
"But I'm a nurse here, I'm just not on duty right now. See?" I showed her my badge.
"Alright, she's in room 465." She said.
"Thank you." I said.
Ashley and I made a dash for the room. I knocked on the door and used my key to get in. A young girl with a huge baby belly was sitting on the bed.
"Hello. Are you Olivia?" I said trying not to scare her.
"Yes. Who are you?" She asked.
"I'm Kira, I'm a nurse here. And this is my daughter Ashley." I said walking closer.
"Are Jay and Nya here yet?" She asked.
"The whole hospital is on lockdown." I frowned.
"What? How are they going to be here in time?" She frowned.
"Relax, I'm a friend of theirs and if I know Jay and Nya, they always find a way." I smiled.
"But the baby's coming any minute." She panicked.
"Hey don't worry, I'll stay here with you until they get here ok."
"Ok." She nodded. Then she started screaming.
I grabbed her hand and talked her through the contraction. Having given birth to three kids, I knew what I was doing. After a few minutes the contractions were over.
"Ok, I think it stopped." Olivia said catching her breath.
"How many centimeters have you dilated?" I asked.
"Only three. The contractions are 12 minutes apart." She said.
"Then we still have a while until the baby gets here." I said.
"Do you think Jay and Nya will make it on time? I really want them to be here when it happens." Olivia looked at me.
"Don't worry, if I know Jay and Nya, they wouldn't miss this if the world was ending." I smiled.
I told Ashley to stay with her and I went into the hallway to call Jay and tell him what was going on. Hopefully I was right about this.
Nya's P.O.V.:
I was pacing the floor of the monastery trying to figure out the best way to get to the hospital. I know there's crystalized warriors all over the city, but our baby was about to be born. There had to be a way to get there on time. There just had to be.
"Ok, thanks Kira. We'll try to be there soon." Jay said into his phone. "Bye."
He hung up and looked back at me. He seemed a little on edge, but I think we all were at the moment.
"What did she say?" I asked.
"She said she's only dilated three centimeters so we still have some time, but with those soldiers down there it won't be easy." Jay frowned.
"Jay we have waited so long to have another baby and we may never get the chance again."
"I know, I feel the same way, but I don't think there's anything we can do." Jay frowned and hugged me.
"Mom? Dad?" We heard Jax shouting as he entered the room. Lily and Matt weren't far behind him.
"What are you doing?" Matt asked.
"Well kids, your dad and I have to go to the hospital."
"Did Dad hurt himself again?" Lily asked.
"No, your adoptive brother or sister is about to be born." Jay said.
"What?!" They all shouted.
"We have to get them to the hospital." Lily said.
"No, you kids are about to face the biggest battle of your lives. That's the only thing you guys should be focused on right now." I said.
"Yeah, with the Overlord at large they need all the hands they can get." Jay agreed.
"This isn't about numbers, it's about family." Jax said.
"Yeah Mom, you can't give up." Lily frowned.
"Wait, the vehicle I created!" Matt said. "It's strong enough to defend against the vengestone warriors. We could use that to take you there."
"No guys, you should use it to fight the Overlord. We'll find another way." I said.
"Why can't we do both?" Lily shrugged.
Jay and I looked at each other. We knew there was no way the kids were going to let us miss this, and there was no way to talk them out of it either.
"I just got another text from Kira." Jay said as his phone dinged. "Olivia's now at 5 centimeters."
"That's half way there." I frowned.
"Please Mom, let us take you." Lily begged.
"Come on, it's now or never." Jax said.
"Ok, but once you guys drop us off, then you go save the world." I said.
"Deal." All of them said.
"Come on let's go!" Jax yelled.
Matt took us outside where he had a big vehicle parked. We sat in the back and the kids took us to the hospital. The streets were crawling with those vengestone warriors, but the vehicles were pretty good at taking them down.
After fighting enough of them off, we finally made it to the hospital. With a little help from Kira, she was able to get us in and take us to Olivia's room.
"Did we miss it?" Jay asked her as we ran in.
"Nope, you're just in time." The doctor smiled.
We held Olivia's hands. A few minutes later, she had given birth to beautiful baby girl with brown eyes and blonde hair. She was exhausted, but she looked relieved.
The doctor wrapped her up in a little pink blanket and handed her to me.
"She's beautiful." Jay said.
"Thank you so much." I smiled at her.
"I know you guys will take great care of her." Olivia smiled with tears of exhaustion in her eyes.
"What are we going to call her Jay?" I asked him.
"How about Olivia?" Jay smiled.
"You... you wanna name her after me?" Olivia smiled.
"Sure, if you're ok with that." I asked her.
Olivia nodded with a big smile. Even though it wasn't exactly how we wanted to expand our family, we get to give this baby a home, and in some ways, that's even better.
Ryder's P.O.V.:
Jax, Lily and Matt left to take Jay and Nya to the hospital. They had dropped them off and were already down there beating down the vengestone warriors. The rest of us were training while waiting on Ethan to wake up.
I was sitting on the steps watching the others train because my power still hadn't returned, I didn't know if they ever would. My dad said I don't have to use them because the vengestone warriors corrupt my power anyway, but I was too weak to use my Oni power too because of my broken ribs. It would all be up to Ethan now.
"How are things going out here?" My dad asked coming outside and sitting next to me.
"Well I think my team is ready, but I still don't have my powers." I frowned.
"Instead of focusing on what you don't have, focus on what you do." He said and I looked at him. "You have your family, your skills as a leader, and a great team to back you up. That's all you need, isn't it?"
"Yeah, I guess it is." I smiled. "Thanks Dad."
I gave my dad a hug and then Ethan ran out of the monastery. He practically jumped into my dad's arms.
"Hey tiger. What's this for?" He laughed.
"Just because." He kept hugging him.
My father couldn't help but smile. I don't know what my grandfather said to him, but whatever it was it must've worked.
"I'm so sorry dad. I didn't mean to hurt anyone." Ethan frowned.
"I know you didn't son. Don't worry, Ashley is going to be fine." Dad said. "Are you feeling better?"
"Yeah, all I needed was a nap." Ethan nodded.
"Great, because we're going to need you." I stood up. "Do you think your ready?"
"You bet! The Overlord won't know what hit him." Ethan said throwing punches in the air.
"Alright, then here's the plan." I got my team's attention. "Jax, Lily and Matt aren't going to hold them off forever, so Amber and Allison, you take the Earth driller and help them out. Blake and Trent, take your Samurai X mech and get as many as you can from the air. Alex and I will take the jet and get Ethan up to the temple. Got it?"
I put my hand out and the whole team put theirs on top.
"GO JUNIOR NINJA GO!" We all screamed together as we let our hands went up.
We all jumped into the vehicles and the others went to do their tasks. Alex and I were taking Ethan up to the temple.
"You sure you're ready to face him by yourself Ethan?" I asked him.
"Wait, you're not coming with me?" He frowned.
"I'm sorry Ethan, I can't." I frowned. "My powers aren't back yet and I can't use my Oni powers on command like you can."
"But I don't want to go by myself." He cried. "Please be there to protect me. Please?"
The way he was looking at me with those big sad eyes. I couldn't bring myself to say no.
"Fine, I'll go with you but only as a backup." I agreed. "Alex, can you get us to the temple and drop us off?"
"Affirmative." Alex said.
Alex drove us by the temple and Ethan and I jumped out of the helicopter. We saw a dark skinned, four armed figure sitting on the throne. We were ready to face him, or at least Ethan was.
"How dare you two enter my temple?" The Overlord stood up.
"Come out and face me!" Ethan yelled.
"You have a death wish? So be it!" He yelled.
The Overlord morphed into a giant Centaur type creature. Ethan sparked up his powers and was able to get a few hits on him, but the Overlord slapped him and he almost fell off the temple. Luckily I was there to catch him.
"You ok?" I asked.
"Yeah, but he's strong. I gotta try something else." Ethan said catching his breath.
He took a second, but then he stood up and created a giant purple dragon and turned into a four arm figure with horns. He hopped onto the dragon's back and used a giant blast from his mouth. It seemed effective, but it wasn't enough.
"Ryder, you have to transform too." Ethan yelled as he continued to blast him.
"But I can't. I don't have powers remember?" I yelled back.
"Please, I can't... hold it..." He struggled.
I knew I had to do something. I got angry and my Oni side came out. I jumped and blasted a big beam at the Overlord. After a minute, he was gone, we had won.
Ethan's dragon disappeared and he passed out from exhaustion. I turned back to normal, ran over to him and picked him up. The temple was starting to fall out the sky.
"Alex, we need a pick me up." I said into my com link.
"Flying by now. Be ready to jump." He said.
I took Ethan in my arms and ran to the side of the temple. I saw Alex's helicopter and jumped in with Ethan. We made it just as the temple was falling down. The rest of the vengestone army disappeared along with the temple.
Alex flew us back to the monastery and on the way, Ethan started to wake up.
"Ryder?" He sat up holding his head. "Did we win?"
"We sure did little bro. We won." I smiled.
We all regrouped back at the monastery and celebrated the Overlord's defeat with a huge party the grownups planned for us. The party was also to celebrate the arrival of Jay and Nya's new adopted baby, Olivia. Finally, everything was back to normal.
