The Quiet One's Niece: Part 1

Blake's P.O.V.:

I got back into bed and tried to go back to sleep, but I still felt guilty. I felt so tired but I still couldn't sleep. I was even starting to make myself sick because of all the sleep I missed.

Before I knew it my alarm clock rang and it was morning. My mom came into the room to wake Trent and I up.

"Morning boys." Mom said.

"Good morning Mommy." Trent smiled and jumped out of bed.

"Morning Mom." I set up and coughed.

"Hey Trent, why don't you go downstairs and get some breakfast with your dad, ok?" Mom told him.

"Ok Mommy." Trent said leaving the room.

"Blake are you feeling ok?" Mom felt my forehead. "Well no fever, but you still don't look so good. Have you been getting enough sleep?"

"No, I haven't been able to sleep at all." I frowned and sneezed. "Achoo!"

"Well Mr. Lloyd said that Ryder got to go home yesterday and that somehow he's almost completely healed." She said.

"That's great, but I still feel guilty about what happened." I frowned.

"Blake don't worry about that. What happened to him wasn't your fault." Mom said. "Wait here, I'll bring you some medicine for that cold something to eat."

"I'm not hungry, and I'm not sick either." I said coughing. "I'm fine."

I tried to get out of my bed but I got dizzy when I stood up and held my head in pain. My mom had to help me back into bed.

"Easy son." Mom said. "You need to stay in bed today ok?"

"But I have to help Dad figure out who did this to Ryder." I lied.

"I'm sure your dad has that all under control." Mom said. "You need to stay in bed and rest."

"But I..."

"No buts!" She yelled.

"Fine." I grumbled.

"Now try to get some sleep ok?"

"Ok Mom, I'll try."

She left the room and still couldn't get to sleep. I just hope that Ryder wouldn't do anything stupid and get himself into trouble.

Ryder's P.O.V.:

I woke up and my ribs were still a little sore, but I got up and got myself dressed anyway. I went downstairs and my parents were already up, but Ashley wasn't. It made sense because she was pretty exhausted when we got home from the hospital.

"Good morning Ryder." Mom said to me.

"Morning." I said to them both.

"How are you feeling today bud?" Dad asked.

"I feel great." I told them. "It feels so good to wake up in my own home again."

"I'm glad to see you're feeling better." Mom smiled.

"Hey mom, do you mind if I meet someone in the park today?" I asked scratching the back of my head awkwardly.

"The park doesn't sound like a good idea, maybe we can do something less physical. Like a movie or something." Mom recommended.

"No I have to go to the park today my friend can't wait." I begged. "Plus I'm feeling better."

"Alright but just go easy on the playground ok? I don't want you getting hurt again." Mom said.

"Deal." I agreed.

Me and my sister got dressed and our parents took us to the park. The girl who wrote me that note wasn't specific on where to meet her so I had to figure that out.

I saw the woods from the playground and saw something moving in the bushes. It was a girl with white hair and she was wearing a black cloak. She spotted me and motioned me over. That had to be her, but I needed to distract to my parents.

"Ashley come here." I called out to my sister and she came over. "I need you to distract Mom and Dad. Can you do that for me?"

"I got this." Ashley cracked her knuckles and went over to our parents who were sitting on the bench.

If there was Ashley was good at, it was distracting our parents. She asked my parents where babies come from. That would buy me at least fourty-five minutes.

I started heading in her direction and when all of a sudden a gust of wind blew right past me, almost knocking me down. Then somebody caught me. I looked up and saw a girl with her brown hair tied back in a ponytail and shiny blue eyes.

"Sorry about that, I was going a little too fast there." She apologized. "Hey you're Ryder Garmadon aren't you?"

"I'm sorry have we met?" I asked awkwardly.

"Well not officially." She explained. "I'm Katie, Griffin Turner's daughter. I doubt you remember but you saved my life. On the day you unlocked your true potential."

All of a sudden it all started coming back to me. She was the girl that I saw being beat up by those thugs in the city the day I unlocked my true potential. It kind of surprised me because she looked so poor and weak back then, and now, even though I didn't know her that well, she seemed so brave and confident.

"That was you?!" I exclaimed. "But how?"

"I was young and stupid and thought running away from home was a good idea, but I was such a pushover back then." Katie said. "After seeing how confident you were it inspired me and I unlocked my true potential a week after that."

"Really? Cool!" I said.

"Hey I know it's totally weird, but would it be awkward to ask for your number?" Katie scratched the back the of her head.

"O-oh, yeah, sure, o-of course." I agreed.

I was nervous because no girl ever asked me for her number before. We exchanged numbers and then my ribs started hurting again. I think that Katie must've injured them when she ran into me.

"Hey are you alright?" Katie asked. "Did I hurt you when I ran into you?"

"No no, I'm fine." I said. "Something happened recently and..."

"Oh right, the fire at the bank." Katie guessed. "I heard about it on the news. I'm surprised that you were able to recover so quickly."

"Let's just say I have sort of a... secret weapon." I winked.

My parents told me the other day that no one was supposed to know about Ashley's powers outside of the other ninjas' families. If some villain knew that Ashley had this incredible power, they might use it for themselves and push her to her limits. Her powers aren't fully developed yet so if she over pushes herself, it could be enough to hurt her, or worse. I couldn't let that happen to my little sister.

"Katie, come on we're leaving." Her father called from beyond the playground.

"Oh sorry I have to go." Katie apologized. "I'll call you later, feel better."

"O-oh ok." I stuttered. "Nice to meet you... again."

"It was nice meeting you too. Hope you feel better." She smiled and ran to her father.

I watched her and her dad run off at lightning speed together. Katie was so cool and nice and awesome and a great person. I was definitely planning on calling her later.

As I was admiring her, I saw the figure in the woods again. This time the girl looked angry maybe because I was talking to Katie. I looked over at my parents and Ashley was still keeping them busy with all her follow up questions about where babies come from so I wasn't worried about them watching me.

I chased the girl into the woods and I lost sight of her. I kept looking around and all of sudden someone covered my mouth with their hand. I had the feeling that this was a bad idea.

"Shh, don't scream." I heard a girl's voice say. "I'm not gonna hurt you."

I nodded and she gently removed her hand from my face. I looked at the girl and she removed her hood to reveal her white hair tied in a bun.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"My name is Maizy." She said. "And you must be Ryder."

"How did you know that?" I asked.

"You're the son of the famous green ninja, you're not exactly that hard to find." She crossed her arms.

"Ok, I'll give you that." I said. "So why were you at the bank that day anyway?"

"I was there with my father." She explained. "Harumi's brother."

My eyes lit up at the mention of her name. My father had told me stories of the horrible things that she did. I started to slowly back away from her.

"Oh relax, not everyone turns out like their relatives." She smiled and rolled her eyes. "Take your grandfather for example."

"Well, you do have a point." I calmed down a bit. "Sorry."

"It's ok." She said.

"Wait, if you ran back in to save me, how were you completely unharmed?"

"Easy." She put her hand up and she formed a forcefield around herself. "My mother was the master of forcefields. Completely impenetrable."

"Oh." I said. "That's cool."

"So how did you heal so fast? After I saved you I thought you'd be in the hospital for at least a month."

"Uhh... it's a miracle I g-guess." I shrugged. "But speaking of that, I wanted to say thank you for saving my life back there. I really appreciate it and if there's anything I can do for you just let me know."

"Well there is a certain quest I need your help with." She winked and handed me a piece of paper with her number on it. "I'll give you a call later and fill you in on the details."

"I don't think I should go on any quests for a while until I..."

"But I thought you said anything you could do."

"Oh right." I sighed as I put the note in the pocket. "Thanks."

"Hey, stay out of trouble, next time I might not be around to save you."

She ran back into the woods until she was out of sight. Then I started to head back towards the playground and heard Ashley and my parents calling for me. It didn't help that ribs were still bothering me a bit. I managed to make it back to them.

"Ryder Wu, where in the world have you been?" My mom said pulling me into a hug. "You know your not supposed to run off like that."

"I know, I'm sorry but I... saw a squirrel that was... uh... stuck in a tree... and..."

"You can tell us the real story later." Dad said. Then he noticed that I was holding my sides. "Are you ok bud?"

"Yeah I'm alright, just tired." I said. "Can we go home now?"

"Alright let's go." Mom said.

My father formed his dragon and flew us back home. Once I got home I took a nap and felt so much better.

I thought about it a long time and I really didn't want to go on that quest with Maizy. Sure I trusted her because she saved my life, but after meeting with her, she had this weird vibe about her. But in the end I knew that I made a promise and I had to honor that.

"Ryder, can you come down here please?" I heard my mom yell from downstairs. "You're father and I want to talk to you."

"I'll be right down." I yelled back.

I took the original note that Maizy gave me and ran downstairs. I knew what this was about.

Lloyd's P.O.V.:

Kira and I had called Ryder down to the living room to tell us about what happened at the park.

"Ok bud, why did you wonder off in the park?" I asked.

"Guys there's something I need to tell you." He set next to us on the couch.

Ryder handed us a note in handwriting we didn't recognize. It said that it was from his lifesaver and to meet them in the park. He told us everything that happened. It all made sense now, but he should've told us about this sooner.

"This was the reason why you wanted to go to the park today, wasn't it?" Kira realized.

"Yeah." Ryder sighed.

"So let me get this straight." I said. "This girl pulled you out of the fire, flew a paper airplane through your bedroom window and told you to meet her in the park?"

"Yeah, pretty much." He frowned.

"I don't like the sound of this." I said.

"Dad if it wasn't for her I would've died." He defended.

"And we're all very thankful you're ok, but you never know who you can trust." I warned.

"What, I can't trust the person who risked her own life to save mind?" He said frustrated.

"Son, all we're saying is that you don't know this girl that well." Kira clarified. "Meeting a stanger like that could be dangerous."

"Not for a highly trained ninja." He bragged.

"A highly trained ninja would never do something so foolish." I said crossing my arms.

"It wasn't foolish, I just met up with her to thank her for saving my life. That's all." He said again.

"The fact is that you saw her period." I said.

"Boys stop it." Kira yelled over us. "Now Ryder, you know better then to do something like that without backup, and Lloyd you've made plenty of mistakes of your own at that age. All that matters is that he learns his lesson."

"The question is has he learned his lesson?" I looked at Ryder.

"Sorry, but I didn't think I was doing anything wrong." Ryder shrugged. "All I did was meet a girl in the park."

"How much do you really know about this girl? Do you even know her name?" I asked.

"Yes her name's Maizy and she's Harumi's niece!" He screamed and then covered his mouth.

I stood there in shock. I had no idea that Harumi had any relatives that were still alive. It was possible that the girl was lying, but why would she?

At the very mention of her name, all the memories started coming back to me, bad memories, horrible ones. I couldn't think straight, so much that my head was starting to hurt.

"Lloyd?" Kira said concerned. "Are you ok?"

"How in your right mind did you think this was ok? After all the stories I told you about her."

"You know dad, not everyone turns like there relatives. I figured you of all people would do understand that." He crossed his arms.

"Ryder, go to your room." I said sternly.

"But Dad I..."

"Don't make me say it again. Go!" I yelled.

He ran up to his room without saying another word. I could tell Kira was still concerned about me.

"Lloyd?" She looked at me.

"I'm fine Kira, I just don't understand. How could she possibly have any relatives left?" I pondered. "She didn't have any other family, not that I know of anyway."

"Well we don't know that for sure, maybe she was lying." Kira suggested.

"If someone was trying to be friends with my son, they wouldn't lie to him about that." I said. "In fact why would she tell Ryder that at all? It's like she knew he was my son and is just trying to get into my head."

"I think you're overthinking things a little." Kira said.

"Well if you knew what she did to me you would be considering all the angles too." I told her. "Harumi tried to take everything away from me. People had to give their lives to get my friends back. I can't let Ryder go through that."

"I don't want him to either." Kira agreed.

"I think I need to lie down."

"Migraine again?" Kira guessed.

"Yeah, my dad's probably trying to contact me again." I told her. "I'll be right back."

Kira helped me walk to my room and fell asleep to contact my father. He and I often talked like that when he knew something was bothering me.

"You rang father?" I said as his misty image appeared in front of me.

"Actually I believe you did." He said. "Is there a problem."

"Well it's just that Ryder got this weird message from a girl who claims to be Harumi's niece."

"I was unaware she had one." My father said.

"You and me both." I said. "I'm not even sure if she's telling the truth, but she saved Ryder's life so she hasn't given us a reason not to trust her."

"Then you should be thankful." He said.

"And I am, but now I'm scared." I admitted. "I don't know what she wants with him, but what ever it is I have a feeling it's not going to be good."

"Have you met this girl?" My father asked.

"No, all Ryder told us was her name." I shrugged. "He met up with her in the park and he didn't even tell anyone. He could've been kidnapped or worse."

"The best way to learn a lesson is through experiencing mistakes." He lectured.

"So you're saying that I shouldn't do anything?" I questioned and he nodded. "But what if he gets hurt again? After what happened to him I don't think he can take much more. Plus Ashley's powers aren't fully developed yet so I'm sure she'll be able to heal him again."

"Ashley has powers?" He asked.

"She's starting to get healing powers from Kira's grandmother. She discovered them last week but she didn't say anything to us until a few days ago." I explained. "Kira says it'll take a while for them to come in all the way, but they've worked on Ryder twice before. It tires her out though so I don't want her to use it too much."

"Give it time, soon she'll be a wonderful elemental master." He said.

"That's the thing though, she doesn't want to a ninja, she wants to be a nurse." I told him.

"What's the problem with that?"

"Nothing, I'm always supportive of want she wants to do with her life, I'm not going to force her to be a fighter." I said. "Although I do want her to learn basic training when she's older. With a power like that she'll need to be able to be defend herself at least a little."

"Good thinking." Dad said.

"How is Wu?" I asked. He had left a little over a month ago to visit my father in the realm of madness.

"He's doing fine." He answered. "A little more time and we will both be able to return to Ninjago."

"I can't wait." I smiled. "Tell him I said hi."

"Will do." He said. "Good luck."

"Thanks Dad." I smiled.

I woke up and exited the dreamscape. Talking to my father was a way to get stuff off my chest. Sometimes he has good advice and other times he doesn't. It depends on the situation really.

I knew that no matter what happens, I wasn't going to let Ryder get hurt again.

"Lloyd!" Kira ran into the bedroom out of breath. She looked upset.

"Kira what's wrong?" I asked.

"Ryder ran away."

To be continued...
