The Junior Ninja Team: Part 2

Lloyd's P.O.V.:

I was in the training yard doing some practice sparring with Ryder. He was surprisingly picking it up easier than I thought he would. We had been at it for hours and I was starting to get tired, as was he. I was hoping that all this training would work to change his mind about becoming a ninja.

I landed a punch and Ryder fell down and caught his breath. I could tell he was already becoming frustrated.

"Come on bud, one more time." I offered my hand to help him up.

"Dad, we've been training for hours." He got to his feet. He looked tired.

"Why? You wanna quit?" I asked.

"I thought you said a ninja never quits?" He looked at me.

"Well you're just a ninja in training right now. If it turns out you don't want to be a ninja then I'll support you, but I want you to be able to protect yourself if need be and right now you don't even know Spinjitsu."

"I do to!" He claimed.

"Ok, then prove it."

I watched as Ryder charged up his powers and tried to spin around in a circle. He ultimately failed and fell flat on his back. It reminded me of me when I first started my training.

"Don't worry bud, you'll get it." I helped him up. "Let's try it again."

"Dad I... I don't think I want to learn this anymore." He frowned.

"Why not?" I asked, trying not sound as relieved as I was.

"I don't know it's just... the entire team is counting on me to be a good leader and what if I'm not good enough?" He turned away from me.

I sighed as I realized what I had done. I wanted to prevent him from becoming a ninja, not lose confidence in himself. My gosh I'm a terrible father.

"Ryder wait." I grabbed his shoulder and got him to look at me. "Spinjitsu takes a long time to master. Here let me show you how it's done."

I tried to use my powers to show Ryder how to it, but I couldn't get them to work. I tried again and they still wouldn't work.

"Oh yeah, real impressive stuff Dad." Ryder rolled his eyes. "I'm getting a lemonade."

"Good idea, take a break." I said as he was on his way inside.

I kept trying to use my powers, but I couldn't do it. As I tried to figure out what was happening, my father and uncle walked up to the monastery for a surprise visit.

Garmadon's P.O.V.:

"Hello son." I smiled.

"Oh hey Dad, hi Uncle Wu." Lloyd hugged us both. It was so nice that Lloyd and I were on good terms again. "What brings you by?"

"Oh, Kira told us what happened and we thought we would just see how you were doing." I said. "Are you feeling better?"

"Yeah, I feel better thanks to Ashley. For some weird reason I can't seem to make powers work." He frowned at me. "You don't think it has something to do with you giving up your powers do you?"

"Well Ryder still has his powers right?" Wu asked.

"Yeah, but now there's a new threat in Ninjago and I can't teach him how to use his powers if I don't have mine." He said.

I was worried about Lloyd. I had given up my power to save his family from having to fight me, but if he was losing his powers, that was not a good sign.

"Kira told us about what happened last night, do you think it could be that?" Wu asked.

"It's possible but not likely." Lloyd said. "Either way, it doesn't matter how I lost them, I need them back. Ryder has to learn Spinjitsu."

"Why not teach him the old fashioned way?" Wu smirked and flipped the golden dragon's head to reveal a familiar red button.

"Oh yeah, that's how Kai and the others learned Spinjitsu." Lloyd realized. "That's perfect! Thanks Master Wu."

"You're welcome." He said. "Now where are your little rascals? I haven't seen them in so long."

"They've grown up quite a bit, come on in and say hi."

Lloyd lead us inside the monastery and we ran into his family. He was right, everyone had grown up a lot. Ryder looked older and was drinking a lemonade at the counter. I saw a young girl who looked similar to Kira sitting at the counter too and I was sure this was the daughter Lloyd had told me about. Kira was making them some sandwiches behind the counter. I was wondering where Misako was.

"Oh hey you guys, what a nice surprise." Kira greeted us.

"Good to see you again Kira." Wu said to her.

"Daddy, who's that?" The browned haired girl looked up at Lloyd. She had never seen me before and I doubt she remembers Wu because she was so young when he left to help me.

"Ashley, this is your great uncle Wu and your grandfather." Lloyd introduced us. "Ryder, you remember don't you?"

"I remember Great Uncle Wu but my grandfather has four arms." Ryder said looking at me.

"My brother's gone though some changes, but now he's changed for the better." Wu smiled.

"Where have you been?" Ryder asked me.

"Let's just say we had some issues to work out, but everything is ok now." I told him.

"So, he's my grandfather?" Ashley questioned.

"Yes sunshine, he is." Kira said to her daughter.

"I'm sorry I wasn't around to watch you grow up Ashley." I frowned. "Your father has told me so much about you."

Ashley got up from the table and gave me a hug. "Hi grandpa!"

"What a lovely girl you turned out to be." I smiled at her.

Misako came down the stairs and caught my eye. She was just as beautiful as I remember her and I could tell she was surprised to see me like I was.

"Garmadon?" She questioned.

"Misako." I said as she came downstairs.

"You're... you again." She smiled at me.

"I've always been me, I just needed a little help to figure that out." I smiled.

"Eww are they gonna kiss?" Ryder covered his eyes and then Ashley did the same.

"Kids, don't be rude." Kira told them.

Misako and I both laughed and gave each other a hug. I was glad to see her again, but I really didn't feel like starting things up again at that moment. I wanted to settle into the city first before we open that door.

"Don't worry kids, your grandfather and I are better off as friends." Misako said.

"Good friends." I smiled.

"Well you're looking better." Kira said to Lloyd.

"I am feeling better, but my powers. They aren't working and I can't figure out why." Lloyd frowned. "I can't form my dragon or even do Spinjitsu anymore."

"That's strange." Kira said. "Is your head still hurting?"

"A little but not as much as yesterday." He answered.

"Do you need my help Daddy?" Ashley asked him.

"Thank you sunshine, but you've already done more than enough." Lloyd dismissed.

"Here, I'll make you some tea." Kira said to him.

Wu and I looked at each other. I was wondering if giving up my powers could have somehow affected Lloyd's, but if that was the case then it should have been affecting Ryder's too. I had to find out for sure.

Lloyd's P.O.V.:

Kira gave me a cup of healing tea and I thanked her and took a sip. It honestly felt so nice to sit down and have a conversation with my family. Plus ever since we started training this morning, Ryder and I haven't fought with each other once and I felt so relieved.

"Thank you." I smiled. "I think I'm going to text Kai and make sure he's feeling alright. He was limping yesterday and I'm kinda worried about him."

"Alright." Kira kissed me on the cheek.

————{{{Lloyd's Phone}}}————

Lloyd: Hey Kai, how
are you feeling?

Kai: I'm doing alright. My
leg is still a little sore but
I'll be ok. Are you feeling
better now?

L: Much better thank you.
How are the kids' doing
with their ninja training?

K: Well Blake and Amber
are picking it up quickly,
but Trent is still really
upset. I love him, but
he's just not ready yet.

L: Well good luck
with that.

K: Thanks we'll need
it. 😩 How's Ryder's
training going?

L: It's going ok, but let's just
say it could be better. He's
starting to lose confidence in
himself and he doesn't think
he'll be good at leading the
team.

K: Reminds me of
someone I used to
know. 😉

L: Thanks but that
doesn't help me. 😩

K: Look, I'm sure you
were nervous when you
first started your training,
we all were. Just show him
there's nothing to be afraid
of.

L: I wish that were true, but
you know why I am afraid.
If he becomes a ninja, my nightmare might come true
and I can't let that happen,
I just can't. It would be so
much easier to train him
if I had my powers.

K: What do you mean?
What about your powers?

L: I was trying to show Ryder
how do Spinjitsu earlier and I
couldn't get them to work. I
can't figure out why.

K: Do you think it has
something to do with
your father and Wu
coming back?

L: Maybe, I just hope
I get them back soon.

K: Sorry I gotta go before
Blake sets the house on fire
again. Hope you figure it
out soon. Bye.

L: Ok bye.

I put my phone away and looked at Ryder next to me.

"Hey bud, you ready to get back to training?" I asked him.

"Can't it wait till tomorrow?" He complained.

"Remember bud, never put off till tomorrow..."

"What can be done today. I know Dad." He rolled his eyes as he finished my sentence.

"You've taught him well Lloyd." Wu smiled.

"Although he's as stubborn as you are." My father laughed.

"Ok you got me there." I admittedly agreed.

"Daddy's gonna teach me how to use my powers too." Ashley said proudly as she looked up at me. "Right Daddy?"

"I'll try my best sweetie, but there hasn't been an elemental master of healing master in so long I'm not sure if I know how to train one." I frowned.

"I've actually been looking into that." Kira said. "I was cleaning a few things last week and found this box that my grandmother left me before she passed. Turns out she had written a diary all about her adventures when she was training to be a healing master. It may not be a rule book but I think it could help."

"Really?" Ashley looked at Kira excitedly. "Can I see it?"

"Of course you can sunshine." Kira smiled. "I'll show you tonight."

I knew that Kira would have to read it to Ashley because she was still learning. Being the son and daughter of the green ninja, Kira and I thought it would be best to homeschool the kids. We did this so they would have time to explore their own interests and not get so caught up in school drama or anything like that, which is pretty much a guarantee if you're the only one in your class with a famous parent and elemental powers. In all honesty, we kind of stole the idea Kai and Skylor as did the rest of the ninja, but I think it works well for us to have a flexible schedule for our kids, especially now that they've started their training.

"What did it say?" I asked her.

"Well my grandmother started by bringing a wilted flower back to life, so maybe that's where we start." Kira said.

"That sounds too easy." Ashley said. "I've already healed Ryder and Daddy and unlocked my true potential, why do I have to start with plants?"

"One must start out small before they can grow." Wu lectured. "Every bit of progress you make will lead you to the ultimate reward."

"Not another riddle!" Ashley whined.

Kira and I let out a little laugh. I for one actually missed my uncle's riddles. It was nice to have him and my dad back in my life again, and not just in the dreamscape.

"Alright guys, you ready?" I asked them and they nodded. "Alright then, let's get training."

Kai's P.O.V.:

This morning Skylor and I called all the kids to the living and told them all about how we were going to start their training to become ninja. Amber didn't look interested, Blake looked nervous, and Trent looked so excited.

"But Dad I... I can't be a ninja." Blake frowned and looked at his hands. "All I do is hurt people with these stupid powers."

"Blake you can't just..."

"YAY!!!" I was interrupted by Trent's sudden outburst. "I'm gonna be a ninja!"

I looked at Skylor and frowned, she was just as sad as I was. The worst part of parenting is the part where you have to break your own child's heart.

"Actually Trent, there's something your dad and I need to talk to you about." Skylor told him.

"Amber and Blake, you guys go get your training armor on while we talk to your brother." I told them and they went to their rooms.

"What's going on?" Trent asked with a sudden change of tone.

"Trent we love you buddy, but we don't think you're ready to become a ninja yet." I frowned.

"But Amber and Blake get to be ninja, why can't I?" He frowned.

"Well they're a little older than you." I said.

"It's because I never got powers, isn't it?" Trent sighed.

"Of course not champ, your father and I just think that training will be too much for you." Skylor said.

"It's ok Mommy, I know it was long shot." He sighed. "Guess I just wasn't born to be a ninja."

"Trent, you just..."

Before I could finish my sentence, Trent ran up to his room and slammed the door shut, passing his siblings on the stairs. They both had their training armor on.

"What's with him?" Blake asked.

"Don't bother him guys. He's a little upset right now." Skylor told them. "Just give him some time."

"Come on kids, let's go train."

We all went outside training with the kids. My leg was still a little sore from yesterday, but that wasn't going to stop me from making sure my kids get the proper training. With that new threat in Ninjago, we need to be on the top of our game.

Nya's P.O.V.:

We were all outside teaching the kids how to use the training course. They already had full control of their powers and knew Spinjitsu, Jay and I were just making sure that they were fully prepared. I didn't like the idea of getting the kids to be ninja, but Jay was right, we couldn't stop destiny. The least we could do was make sure they were ready.

We offered to teach Matt how to use the ninja course too, but he had more interest in just watching us train the kids. I was kind of hoping that he would have interest in learning to use my Samurai X suit, but I wasn't going to pressure him if he didn't want to.

To be honest, I wished someone would carry on the legacy of Samurai X, but I guess after me and Pixal, there wasn't a need for my suit anymore. I gladly accepted becoming the water ninja when I got my powers and I'm very happy with how my life turned out, but Samurai X is still a big part of who I am, and after Pixal gave it up to raise Alex, I'm having trouble letting go of the fact there would no longer be a Samurai X.

We were still training when there was knock at the door followed by Bolt's barking. I was curious so I told Jay and the kids to keep training and I went to open the door. To my surprise it was my youngest nephew wearing a bike helmet. His bike was parked out front.

"Trent?" I questioned and brought him inside. "What are you doing here?"

"Mom and Dad said I couldn't be a ninja." He frowned.

"Do your parents know you came over here all by yourself?" I asked.

"No, they probably just ignored me like they always do." He crossed his arms. "I'm so useless."

"I'm sure that's not true buddy, let me text your dad and get to the bottom of this." I took out my phone and texted my brother.

————{{{Nya's Phone}}}————

N: Hey Kai, are you
missing something?

Kai: uhh what? 🤨

N: You wanna explain
why Trent just showed
up at my house all by
himself? 🤨

K: He did? Oh man I guess
was so busy training Amber
and Blake I didn't notice he
snuck out. I feel so bad! 😩
Is he ok?

N: He's fine, but he feels
like you forgot about him.

K: He was really upset when
we told him he couldn't be a
ninja, but I didn't think he
would run away like that.

N: He was born without
powers Kai, you've got
to be careful when you
tell him things like that.
The poor kid thinks he's
useless.

K: You and I both
know that's not true.

N: Yes, but he believes it
is. I'm saying you need
to make sure he has a
way to help the team.

K: I'd like Trent on the team
more than anything, but with
his asthma and everything
Skylor and I are worried
about him keeping up with
the others.

N: I understand that but
you can't just tell him to
do nothing at all.

K: I know, we just need
more time to get think
of a place for him.

N: Well I do have one idea...

K: Are you sure he
can handle that?

N: Absolutely. I promise
it's completely safe, plus
the suit will do all the
work so he won't get
overworked.

K: Well I guess it would be
a good way to keep him busy.
And it would be pretty hard
for him to get hurt that way.

N: Exactly my point.

K: Ok you've convinced me,
but good luck getting Skylor
to agree to this. Remember,
the granddaughter of Clouse
is out there too.

N: I know, that's why would
need all the help we can get.
I'm sure you can get her on
board.

K: I'll try but I make
no promises. We'll be
by to get Trent in a
minute.

N: See you soon.

"Ok, your parents are on their way." I put my phone away and turned back to my nephew. I saw the tears in his eyes.

"They forgot about me didn't they?" He looked at me.

"They didn't forget you, they just thought you were still in your room." I told him as I ruffled his brown hair. "You're quite a sneaky one."

"Yeah I get that a lot." He giggled.

Kai and Skylor arrived at my house and they were pretty mad at Trent for running away. But somehow my brother did convince Skylor to let him try out my idea, so we lead him to the shed in the back of the yard.

"Why did you bring me here Auntie Nya?" Trent asked.

"Well, we know how much you wanted to become a ninja..." I opened the doors to the shed, revealing my old suit. "...but would you settle for a Samurai?"

The biggest smile appeared on my nephew's face. I think this was gonna work.
