The Forth Mask: Part 1
Kira's P.O.V.:
"Ow! Not so tight."
"Lloyd, hold still, I'm almost done."
Lloyd came back to the cell this morning in a lot of pain. He probably had a broken rib and he had hurt his wrist. I was honestly getting tired of the daily routine and us getting hurt all the time. If it wasn't for Zach bringing us all these supplies, our situation could've been ten times worse.
I was trying to wrap the bandages around Lloyd's ribs to make him feel better, but he wouldn't stop moving. He had been hurt before, but he's usually not like this. At least before he would reluctantly let me help him, but now it was like he was irritated by the tiniest of things. I thought it might have something to do with his recent concussion, so it was best to just deal with it for now.
"There. I'm all done now." I said. "How's that?"
"I'm good." He said catching his breath.
"Now let me see your wrist please. I wanna make sure it's not broken."
"Oh man, not this again." He rolled his eyes and held out his hand.
"I promise I'll be careful." I looked at his wrist. "I don't think it's broken, but I better treat it just to be safe."
He sighed as I got out the bandages again and began wrapping it. I could hear someone talking through the vents outside of the cell.
"Sir, I'm not sure your prisoners can take much more of this." I heard a man's voice say. I thought it sounded like Zach. "The green ninja is almost completely out of it and his wife is sick and..."
"I don't care. Until I have what I want nobody is leaving!" Another man said. He sounded like Akamu to me.
"Akamu, these are good people. They were willing to help your daughter even after everything she did. They..."
"They did what?" Akamu sounded upset. "Why would you let Maizy know where they were?"
"Are you seriously getting mad at me because I tried to get your daughter care for an injury that you caused?"
"Zach, the only reason I let you stay here is because you know too much already. Don't make me regret my decision."
"Don't try to change the subject Akamu. You can't forget she's also my niece and unlike you I actually care about her."
"I'm not going through this again. Maizy is my daughter, and now that she got me the key to what I need, this will all be worth it."
"And how do you think Zoey would feel about what you're about to do?"
"Don't say her name! Not another word!" Akamu screamed.
After that, all I heard was silence. I was concerned, but I didn't have time to be worried about them right now, I had to take care of Lloyd.
"What do you think that was about?" Lloyd asked me.
"Don't worry about it." I told him. I felt a sneeze coming on. "Achoo!"
"Bless you."
"Thanks." I sniffled.
I wasn't really feeling that well either. I was still sick, my knee still hurt and my neck was still bothering me. That wasn't as concerned about me though, it was Lloyd I was worried about.
"You know you should really get some rest." Lloyd said. "I'll be ok."
"No way." I shook my head. I was still worried about his concussion, so I asked him a few questions. "Lloyd, where did we first meet?"
"Your treehouse in Hiroshi's Labyrinth. On the night I fell into the ravine and sprained my ankle. Why?"
"Just testing your memory, just in case." I said, relieved he got the right answer.
"Oh, ok." He nodded.
"And what are Ryder and Ashley's middle names?"
"Wu and Rose." He answered.
"When are the kids' birthdays?"
"September twentieth and August twelfth. We called Ryder that because he loved my dragon and we named Ashley after your grandmother."
"Well it doesn't look like you're suffering from memory loss." I said relieved. "How is head feeling?"
"It hurts but it feels better than it did the other day."
"Ok."
Lloyd frowned. "Kira, how do you think the kids will do without us?"
"What do you mean?" I asked, not wanting to hear this answer.
"I mean if we... don't make it." Lloyd frowned. "What if we never see them again?"
"Lloyd don't talk like that."
"Kira I'm serious, what if they have to grow up without us? What if we're gone and they can't protect themselves?"
"I don't want to think of it." I sighed. "But if worse comes to worst, I'm sure our friends are going to take good care of them. I promise they'll be ok."
"But what if they're not?" He frowned.
"They will be, we just have to keep hoping."
I honestly wish I had believed what I just said. I didn't know if we were going to see the kids again or not, but we had to stay positive, no matter what happens.
After a few minutes, Akamu came into the room. Lloyd and I braced ourselves for what he was about to do, but we couldn't prepare ourselves for what happened next.
He just stood there with his sinister grin, and he pulled a green mask from behind his back. Lloyd looked afraid of it, like he'd seen something similar before. It scared me too.
"Recognize this?" Akamu smirked.
"T-That's impossible." Lloyd stuttered. "They were all destroyed."
"No, she missed one." Akamu Continued. "My sister always did her homework, but even she can make a mistake."
"If there's a forth Oni mask, why was she able to bring my father back with three?" Lloyd asked.
"Because the spell that she used only required three of the masks, but this one was the hardest to find." He explained. "This is the mask of concealment, it's power can make the wearer look and sound like anyone they choose."
"But I thought the Oni were already shapeshifters. Why would they need to create something like that?" I asked.
"They were shapeshifters, but not at first. This mask was created years before they learned to do it on their own. This mask was then considered obsolete, but it should give me all the power I need." Akamu explained.
"What are you gonna do?" Lloyd demanded.
"Don't worry, the mask of concealment alone can't bring any of your relatives back from the dead, but that's not what I need it for anyway."
He started laughing and put the mask on. He suddenly turned into a person that looked exactly like Lloyd. The real Lloyd looked like he just realized something.
"You won't be fooling anyone Akamu! Our friends will never believe you." I yelled.
"I'll take that bet." He smirked, his voice sounding exactly like Lloyd's.
He walked away laughing, this time going upstairs. I looked at Lloyd who seemed panicked.
"You ok?" I asked him.
"He... he's gonna kill him." He frowned. "That vision... it's not me that Ryder's fighting it's Akamu. Ryder's not ready to face him and if he thinks it's me, then he'll hold back and..."
"Then we need to escape before that happens." I said, trying to cheer him up.
"Look at us Kira, we're so hurt and exhausted that we can't even stand up. There's nothing we can do." He frowned.
"Come on Lloyd. Ninja never quit." I said to him.
"But I'm not one anymore." Lloyd sighed. "And now and I won't even get to see who our son and daughter grow up to be."
"Yes you will."
All of a sudden, the door was flung open revealing Zach. He had a large bruise on the side of his face.
"Zach?" Lloyd and I questioned.
"It's not fair what he's doing." Zach said. "We shouldn't have to tear your family apart to fix ours. I won't let him do it to anyone else."
Lloyd's frown turned into a look of relief and he forced himself to his feet. It was obvious he was in pain, but I knew that wouldn't stop him.
Zach and Lloyd tried to help me up, and although my knee was still hurting me, I didn't let it stop me and eventually we all got out there.
"Thank you Zach." Lloyd smiled at him. "We couldn't have done it without you."
"Don't mention it." He smiled. "Now go save your family."
"Wait a minute." I realized. "Lloyd's too weak to form his dragon. We'll need a way to get back to our friends."
"I'm sorry, this is as far as I go." Zach said. "I have to be here when Maizy gets home. I want to protect her."
"You've done more than enough." Lloyd smiled. "Maizy is lucky to have you."
"Last I heard they were headed for Sensei Yang's temple. That's where their base is so be careful." Zach said. "It's about a mile from here."
"I don't think we can make it." I frowned at Lloyd.
"We have to try." He said. I nodded.
"Good luck." Zach said.
Ryder's P.O.V.:
Me, Katie and Allison were at the temple preparing to see if this is where their base was. Uncle Jay gave us all com-links I could communicate with the rest of the team.
"Ok guys, I don't know what we're going to be up against in there, so stick together and watch your back." I said to them.
"Got it." Allison said.
"We won't let you down." Katie said.
We ran up to the temple and we hid behind the bushes in front of the windows. I looked inside and the place seemed empty, but there were pizza boxes all over the place and it definitely looked like quite a few people had been living here.
"I don't think they're home." Katie whispered to me.
"But look at that mess, someone's definitely been here." I said.
"Maybe this is the perfect time to see what they've been hiding." Allison smirked.
"Are you saying we break in?" I asked.
"Well you wanted to see what they've been hiding, and maybe we can find a clue to where your parents are being held." Allison said.
"Ok, but we have to be fast and we have to be stealthy. We can't risk anyone being seen."
"Fast? Did you forget who you're talking to?" Katie laughed.
"Ryder come in." Amber's voice came through my com-link.
"I'm here, what is it?" I said.
"We've reached the old Samurai X cave."
"What do you see?" I asked.
"There's signs that someone has been here but there's not anyone here now."
"Ok, keep looking and be careful. You might not be alone." I told her.
"Copy that." Amber hang up.
Once that was over with, Allison used her strength to break the lock and we entered the temple. Katie used her speed to take a quick around.
"As far as I can tell, we're alone for now." Katie said.
"Good, then let's start looking for anything that would tell us what their next plan of attack is. There may be a clue to where they're holding my parents too." I said.
"We'll keep an eye..."
Before Katie could finish her sentence, someone appeared from behind us. To my surprise it was my dad. He was limping and holding his arm.
"R-Ryder." He struggled before kneeling on the floor.
"Dad!" I ran to him, covering him in a hug. Katie and Allison followed me.
"Wait Dad, where's Mom?" I asked.
"I-I'll tell you everything later, right now we have back."
"Dad, where is Mom?" I asked again, more worried now.
"I said I'll tell you later!" He yelled.
I found it strange that my father yelled at me. That isn't like him at all. Maybe he was just stressed out.
"Ok ok. We'll take you back." I said. "Let me tell my team what's going on."
"Whatever." He said.
I looked at Katie and Allison and they just as confused as I was. I called my team and told them all to return to Jay and Nya's place. My dad was too exhausted to form his dragon, so Allison called her dad to pick us up.
Lloyd's P.O.V.:
We were making our way to the temple as fast as we could. We were both hurt and exhausted, but we had to get to Ryder before Akamu did or else my vision would come true, and I couldn't let that happen.
It was a long journey, but we finally got there. Unfortunately, we were too late. We saw Ryder, Allison and another girl all get on Cole's dragon with Akamu and fly off. We tried to scream, but Kira's voice was horse from her cold and we were too far away anyway. It was no use.
"What do we do now?" I asked.
"Akamu took our phones the minute we were captured. Maybe we can find a pay phone." Kira suggested before she sneezed.
"Good idea." I agreed. "Are you sure you're gonna be ok?"
"Yes I'm fine." Kira said.
We kept walking until we finally came upon a little gas station by the side of the road. We walked in and asked the cashier to use his phone and she agreed.
I had to be careful about who I called. I figured they were all together so if they heard me talking on the phone, they would be confused and Akamu would know we escaped. If he finds out who knows what would happen. I had to call the one person I knew I could trust.
"Hello?" They answered on the other end of the phone.
"Dad this is Lloyd. I know what you're thinking and we have a plan but you can't tell anyone else that I called you. Got it?" I told her quickly.
"Yes." He said.
"Kira and I escaped, but we're pretty roughed up. My powers aren't working and we need help. I'll tell you where we are. Make up an excuse and come get us. Don't tell anyone where you're going or what you're doing. Do you understand?"
"Yes." Dad said again.
"Thanks." I gave him our location and hung up the phone.
I gave the cashier her phone back. Then I looked at Kira sitting on the bench and she looked upset. I set next to her and put my arm around her.
"It's all gonna be ok." I assured her.
"I hope so." She frowned.
Garmadon's P.O.V.:
Cole had told us that Ryder's team had found Lloyd, but then I got that phone call. I knew that he and Kira were in trouble, but I was also concerned for my grandson. There's no telling who he found in that temple, but I had to trust that Lloyd had a plan.
I needed to sneak out, but there was a problem. I was still on patrol in the car with Misako and Wu when I got the call from Lloyd.
"Who was that?" Misako asked me.
"Telemarketer." I lied.
"We should head back." Wu said. "It's getting late and we should be there when Cole gets back with Lloyd."
"I agree." Misako said.
"Maybe I should had back out." I suggested. "Maybe I can figure out where they're keeping Kira."
"Good idea." My brother said.
They both got out at Jay and Nya's house and then I got in the driver's seat and I drove to where Lloyd told me he was. I pulled up to some gas station in the middle of nowhere and Lloyd and Kira came out leaning on each other. Lloyd wasn't lying when he said they were roughed up.
"Lloyd, what happened to you?" I asked as he got in the front seat and Kira got in the back.
"Never mind that, we have to get to Ryder before Akamu does." Lloyd said.
"Akamu?" I questioned.
"We'll explain on the way, just go!" Kira yelled.
I drove the car as fast as I could back to where everyone else was. I was surprised when Kira and Lloyd told me about what Akamu, Maizy's father, put them through and why he wanted Ashley to help with his plan. I wanted him to pay for what he did to my family.
Ryder's P.O.V.:
Uncle Cole dropped us all off at the house and then we had Zane check him for injuries, which it turns out he was fine. My sister was very happy to see him again and ran into his arms the minute he walked in the door. It was like my dad was more excited to see Ashley than he was to see me. In fact he had barely said two words to me since I ran into him at the temple. He wouldn't even tell me what he was doing there in the first place. Something was definitely going on with him.
"Lloyd! I'm so happy you're ok." My grandma hugged him. "Are you ok? Did he hurt you son?"
"No Mom, I'm fine." He answered.
"Where's Kira?" Nya asked.
"He's holding her hostage." My father frowned. "The only way they'll set him free is if Ashley can use her powers to bring his wife back, whose in a coma right now."
"I thought you said I needed more training before I use my powers again." Ashley looked at her hands.
"But this is an emergency Ashley. Your mom is in danger." He said.
"Lloyd, are you sure you're ok?" Kai asked. "You don't sound like yourself."
"We don't have time for stupid questions Kyle, we have go take Ashley so he'll let Kira go." He said.
We all stopped and looked at each other. I knew what we were all thinking. My dad would want to put me or Ashley in danger, and he would never let Ashley get that close to someone who was after her, no matter what was at stake. He would always find another way.
We were about to question him, but then something weird happened.
"Get away from him!" Someone who looked exactly like my dad bursts through the door, my mother and my grandfather were behind him.
"Lloyd?!"
To be continued...
