Sacrifices
Narrator's P.O.V.:
"Come on Ryder, we have to hurry!" Blake yelled to his friend as they were running through the city.
"Alright, alright I'm coming." Ryder huffed as he tried to keep up with Blake.
Blake and Ryder were together while their little siblings had a play date. But then heard reports about a bank robbery in progress. They were going to tell their parents about it, but they were too busy with their siblings to notice, so they snuck out to handle the problem on their own.
When they arrived, they saw that most of the costumers were all frozen and glowing with a weird red light. It's almost as if they were frozen in time.
"What do you think happened here?" Ryder asked Blake.
"Wait, my dad told me stories about this." Blake said looking at the stopped people. "But That doesn't make any sense? How could they...?"
"Oh sorry, the bank is closed." A females voice came from behind them.
They both turned around to see a girl in a black hoodie and dark colored jeans with only her green eyes sticking out from underneath the hood. She had a huge sack of money behind her back. Blake and Ryder knew this had to be the robber and took a fighting stance.
"Drop the money!" Blake demanded lighting his hand on fire.
"Make me fire boy." The girl taunted.
"Ok, you asked for it." Blake smirked.
Blake yielded a fireball at her but then she took her hand out and hit it with a blue light, making the fireball slow down. Then she casually stepped to the side as the fireball started going at normal speed again and crashed into the wall behind her. It set the whole wall a blaze.
"Sorry, but I gotta run." The girl said before stopping the two in time and leaving the premises.
When she was far enough away, all the costumers along with Ryder and Blake were unfrozen and started to panic.
"What do we do?" Blake asked Ryder.
"Don't panic, we need to get these people out of here." Ryder said.
The two of them helped all the costumers and employees out of the bank, there was a huge beam that was aiming straight for Blake, but Ryder was the only one who saw it. With one full swoop, he pushed Blake out of the way, but the beam fell on top of Ryder instead, knocking him unconscious.
The room was filled with smoke, forcing Blake to go outside. He ran into his mom, his dad and Ryder's parents. Kai and Skylor immediately ran to him.
"Blake!" Kai yelled as he checked his son for injuries.
"Are you ok?" Skylor asked him.
"R-Ryder's still in there." Blake replied coughing and pointing back to the bank, still up in flames. "I-It's all my fault."
"Oh no!" Kira exclaimed.
"I'm going in." Lloyd said putting his mask up and running towards the blaze.
Once Lloyd was almost inside, an explosion sent him flying back he landed on the ground. They thought all was lost until they saw someone emerge from the fire, carrying an unconscious Ryder in her arms. Lloyd got up and took his son from the girl and checked his pulse. He was alive but he wasn't breathing. Kira ran up to them.
"He's alive, but we better get him to a hospital, now!" Lloyd told his wife.
Kira nodded and took Ryder to one of the ambulances lined up outside the bank. Lloyd turned around to thank the girl, but she was gone. He saw a quick glance of her running away, and Lloyd thought she looked similar to a person he met before.
"Lloyd!" Kira shouted from the ambulance.
Lloyd shook it off and turned his attention back towards his son and wife. Lloyd went over to the ambulance and rode with Kira and Ryder to the hospital.
Lloyd's P.O.V.:
We had just gotten Ryder to the hospital and he was still out cold. They took him upstairs and Kira and I were pacing the floor back and forth waiting for him to wake up. Ashley was back home with my mother so she wouldn't be worried about him.
"Do you think he's gonna be ok?" Kira asked me through her tears.
"If anyone can pull through, it's him." I told her.
"Mr and Mrs. Garmadon?" A nurse came up to us.
Kira and I immediately stood up and I put my arm around my wife. We were worried about what she was going to say.
"How is my son?" Kira frowned.
"Your son's awake and he's stable." The nurse said. "He's got a slight concussion, a dislocated shoulder, a few broken ribs, his left leg is fractured in a few places and his lungs are still a little weak from breathing in the smoke. He'll have to stay in the hospital for a few days, but the good news is none of his injuries are life threatening and he's expected to make a full recovery."
"Can we see him please?" Kira asked.
"Yes, but he just woke up so be very quiet and try not to stress him too much." The nurse said. "It could make his condition worse."
"Ok, thank you." I said.
We walked into Ryder's room and he was just staring at the ceiling. He had his right arm in a sling where his shoulder was dislocated, his leg in cast and elevated by a pulley, and his ribs and head were wrapped up in bandages. He was covered in burn marks and bruises too and he seemed to be worried about something.
"Hey bud." I whispered. "How are you feeling?"
"Everything hurts." He coughed.
"Easy son, you've been through a lot." Kira said.
"Do you remember anything that happened?" I asked him.
"Last thing I remember was pushing Blake out of the way when that beam almost collapsed on top of him." He held his head. "Is he ok?"
"He's fine bud, you saved his life." I said.
"I did?" He questioned.
"You sure did." Kira smiled. "You saved a lot of people today. You're a hero son."
"Thanks Mom." Ryder smiled. "Wait where's Ashley?"
"She's with your grandma right now. Do you want me to call them?" I asked.
"Dad there's something you need to know." He frowned. "Do you remember that camping trip we went on last week?"
"I remember." I told him.
"Well during that hike Ashley and I took, we discovered that she... she..." He stopped.
"She what? What happened?" Kira asked.
"I... I can't remember." He held his head in pain. "Ow! My head hurts."
"That's the concussion son." Kira told him. "Just take it easy ok?"
"Alright." Ryder frowned.
"Do you want anything to eat?" Kira asked him.
"Not right now, thanks Mom." Ryder answered.
"That's ok, you just rest." I turned to Kira. "I'm gonna call my mom and tell her that Ryder's gonna be ok."
"Can you call Mr. Kai and see how Blake is doing please?" Ryder requested. "I need to know he's ok."
"Of course bud." I agreed. "I'll be right back."
"Alright." He nodded.
I went into the hallway and called my mother to update her on the situation. Apparently Ashley had found out about what happened on the news and she was really concerned about Ryder, so I talked to her for a while and eventually I was able to calm her down.
Then I kept my promise to Ryder and I texted Kai:
————{{{Lloyd's Phone}}}————
L: Hey Kai. How's
Blake doing?
K: He's still coughing
every now and then from
the exposure to the smoke,
but he'll be ok. He seems
really upset about what
happened to Ryder.
How is he doing?
L: He's pretty banged up
but he'll pull through.
K: Well tell him Blake and
I said get well soon and tell
him I said thank you for
saving my son's life.
L: Will do. Did Blake tell
you what started the fire?
K: He's resting right now,
but I was about to ask him.
I couldn't get him to talk
to me earlier.
L: Well the only thing Ryder
remembers is saving Blake.
He's got a concussion and he's
on a lot of medication right
now. He tried to remember
something that happened last week but he couldn't tell me
what it was. I hope that's only
temporary.
K: I'm sorry to hear that.
Well I'll see what I can
get out of Blake and get
back to you. Hope Ryder
feels better.
L: Ok thanks. See you Kai.
K: Bye.

I hung up the phone and went back in to check on Ryder and Kira. Ryder had fallen asleep so I tried my best to stay quiet as to not wake him up.
"Maybe I should stay here with him in case he wakes up." Kira suggested. I could tell she was emotionally exhausted from what had happened earlier.
"No, you should go home and get some rest." I insisted "I'll keep an eye on him."
"Ok, but if anything happens be sure you call me and I'll be back first thing in the morning." Kira said before kissing me on the cheek. "I love you."
"I love you too." I smiled.
"Sweet dreams son." She carefully kissed Ryder on his forehead before leaving the room.
I stayed by son all night. Every once in a while the nurse would come into the room to wake him up because of his concussion, but he was pretty out of it when he was awake so he didn't notice me.
I wanted to sleep in the chair next to him, but I was afraid he would wake up needing something and try to get it himself, so I didn't get any sleep at all. I was anxiously waiting for any news from Kai, because I desperately wanted to know who put my son in this condition.
I couldn't stop thinking about that girl who pulled Ryder out of the building. I was more than grateful that she saved him, but she looked a lot like someone that I used to know, and someone who I wish I never met. But no, she died long ago and she couldn't have any relatives left, could she? I don't know, and to be honest I didn't care about that at the moment, all that mattered was that my son was gonna be ok.
Kai's P.O.V.:
I was worried about Blake. He hasn't said two words to me or anyone else since we got home. He probably blamed himself for what happened to Ryder, but I didn't even know what exactly happened, only that Ryder saved Blake. I was so thankful that my son was ok, but he seemed really depressed. So I went to talk to him.
"Blake?" I said walking into his room. "I just talked to Ryder's dad, the doctors said he's gonna make a full recovery."
"That's good I guess." Blake sighed and rolled towards the wall.
"Mr. Lloyd said we can visit him tomorrow if you want." I offered.
"No thanks, I doubt he ever wants to see me again." Blake frowned.
"Blake it wasn't your fault." I said.
"Yes it was!" Blake turned to me, his eyes filled with tears. "It was my idea to go there, I started the fire, I put all those people in danger, I deserved to be crushed by that beam, but Ryder pushed me out of the way. I hate this stupid power! All it does it make things worse so many people."
"We can't pick our powers son." I frowned.
"Mom and Amber can." Blake sighed.
"Look son, you were given this power, it's your choice how you use it."
"Well it's also my choice to never use it again, and that's exactly what I'm going to do." My son stated.
"Buddy you can't be afraid to try again, your team needs a fire ninja." I encouraged.
"Then I hope Trent gets fire powers because it's not gonna be me." Blake screamed.
"Look let's just put a pin in that for now ok?" I gave up. "I need some information on that bank robber."
"Why?" Blake asked.
"So we can catch him the next time he strikes." I explained.
"It's not a him Dad, it was a girl." Blake sat up on the bed. "When we walked into the bank those people were frozen in place. Almost like they were frozen in time. When I threw my fireball at her, she somehow... slowed it down and that's when it hit the wall and set the bank on fire."
"Wait did you say frozen in time?" I was shocked.
"Yeah, that's how she got away."
"Did I ever tell you and your siblings about the hands of time?" I asked.
"Yeah, about Acronix and Krux and the four time blades." He remembered, then he got the picture. "Oh I see. Do you think she's a descendent of one of them?"
"That's the only thing I can think of, but it doesn't make any sense." I pondered. "Maybe somebody tracked down the time blades?"
"It's still a bit fuzzy, but I don't think she was holding any kind of blade." Blake said.
"Weird."
"Sounds like a mystery to solve." Blake said.
"What do you say we work on it together? Like those treasure hunts we used to do when you were younger."
Blake smiled, nodded and gave me a hug. "Thanks Dad."
"Of course buddy." I smiled.
I knew this would be a good way to take Blake's mind off of everything that happened today. He had always enjoyed cracking cases like this since he was seven and we needed to find out who that robber was.
Once Blake was calmed down enough, I left the room and let him rest. Then I ran into my daughter Amber in the hallway. She looked upset, and it wasn't hard to guess why.
"Don't worry princess, your brother's alright he's just a little shaken up right now." I told her.
"I should've been watching them like you asked me too." She frowned. "I'm the worst big sister ever."
"Amber don't say that." I said to her. "You're a great sister, you just made a mistake."
"A mistake that almost cost my brother and my friend their lives." She mumbled.
"Stop blaming yourself. It could happen to anyone." I put my hand on her shoulder. "Blake is doing fine and Mr. Lloyd said that Ryder's gonna be alright."
"I know, but if I only watched them maybe this wouldn't had happened."
"Amber look at me." I knelt down in front of her and we locked eyes. "None of this is your fault and nobody blames you for what happened. So don't go blaming yourself because it's nothing you did. Ok?"
"So you're not mad at me?"
"Of course not, no one is mad at you." I hugged her. "It wasn't your fault."
She let go and I dried her tears.
"Thanks Dad." She gave me a small smile. "I feel a bit better."
"I'm glad." I smiled.
"Do you think I should talk to Blake?" She asked.
"Maybe wait until morning ok? I just got him to sleep."
"Ok." She agreed yawning.
"You could probably use some rest too, it's been a long day for all of us."
"Alright." Amber yawned again. "Good night Dad. I love you."
"I love you too." I kissed her forehead. "Night princess."
She walked into her bedroom and shut the door. I continued the walk to my room and found Skylor already sound asleep. Trent was in the middle of the bed fast asleep too. I figured he got tired of waiting for Blake to calm down so he just crashed in here.
I was going to carry him back to his room, but Trent was not, and never has been, a heavy sleeper and I wasn't going to risk waking him or Blake. So I decided to get my pajamas on and go to bed and let Trent sleep with us. It had been a long day.
Maizy's P.O.V.:
"Did we rank in big?" I asked my friend Zera as she dragged this huge bag of cash from the bank behind her.
"Oh yeah, we got big money." She replied as she put the sack down. "I still don't understand why you had to save that boy though, you could've compromised the whole mission."
"Look he's the son of my Dad's arch enemy. He's the reason my aunt and grandparents are dead." I told her. "He needs to be alive for the plan to work."
"Whatever you say Maizy." Zera rolled her eyes.
All of a sudden a paper airplane flew into my hands. I opened it and it was a note so I read it:

I like your work. If you really want to exact revenge on your enemies, meet at Yang's abandoned temple tonight. No questions asked.

"Well that's not freaky at all." I said sarcastically.
"Well I for one and tired of the low level crimes, I'm ready for something bigger." Zera said.
"If this letter is real, then I'm in." I said.
"And if it's a trap?" Zera asked.
"Then we'll teach them a lesson about messing with us." I cracked my knuckles.
We both packed up all of our stuff and headed for Yang's temple on the south side of Ninjago on Zera's time dragon. Whatever this was, it was gonna be fun.
