Regaining Memories

Matt's P.O.V.:

"Come on Mom and Dad! Let's go!"

"Ok Matt, we're coming." Dad laughed as he and Mom were trying to keep up with me.

We were hiking through the woods and we were on way to... somewhere. I wasn't sure exactly where we were going. That part was a blank to me. Most of it was.

I woke up from the dream. Jax was still asleep. My head hurt a little, but that always happened when I had dreams about my parents. My memory is still mostly blank, and I could remember some little things about my parents but never very much.

I was going to go back to sleep, but it was already morning so I got up anyway. I got dressed and went downstairs where Mr Walker was sitting at the table and Mrs Walker was making pancakes. Lily must have been still sleeping too.

"Good morning Matt." Mrs. Walker smiled.

"Good morning Mrs. Walker." I yawned and held my head. I was a little dizzy.

"You ok?" Mr. Walker asked me.

"Yes sir, I just had another dream last night." I said. "I'm alright."

"You've been getting those headaches a lot lately." Mrs. Walker noticed. "Do you need some healing tea? It might help."

"No thank you, I'm fine." I said.

"How about some pancakes?" Mrs. Walker asked.

"I don't remember if I tried them or not." I said. "I don't know if I like them."

"Well then maybe trying them will jog your memory." Mrs. Walker said as she put a couple pancakes on a plate and set it in front of me.

I looked at the pancakes. They smelled really good, but I didn't remember how I liked them. Did I eat them syrup or fruit or both or neither? I didn't know. I shouldn't be stressing about something as small as my breakfast, but I was frustrated. If I don't remember anything about what I like to eat for breakfast, then how will I ever remember anything about my parents?

"Matt? Are you sure you're ok?" Mrs. Walker asked me. "Why aren't you eating?"

"I'm sorry, I guess I'm just not hungry that's all." I frowned. "May I be excused please?"

"Sure." Mr. Walker said.

"Thanks, I think I'll go take a shower."

"Alright." Mrs. Walker said.

Nya's P.O.V.:

Matt got up and went into the bathroom. I looked at Jay.

"Something is bothering him." I said.

"Give the kid a break." Jay continued eating his pancakes. "He's going through a lot right now. Just give him some time."

"I know it's gotta be rough on him, but he's barely eating and he keeps getting those headaches almost every morning. I'm worried about him Jay."

"Do you think he's sick?"

"I don't think so, but something is definitely going on."

"I think he's just having a little trouble adjusting to being here. I'm sure he'll come around." Jay said.

"I should really take him to the doctor, just for a check up to make sure he's alright."

"Sweetie I don't think we can." Jay frowned.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean I'm more than happy to let him stay here, but we're not his legal guardians yet. If they find out he's an orphan they'll put him in a foster home. Plus I don't think it's fair to become his guardians without Matt's permission and seeing how the twins feel about it."

"Yeah, I guess you're right." I sighed. "We should still have Kira take a look at him after her and Lloyd are feeling better."

"I heard they were pretty roughed up, but they both could leave the hospital later today." Jay said.

"Well at least that's some good news." I smiled.

"What is?" Lily came down the stairs. Jax was following her.

"Your Uncle Lloyd and Aunt Kira are gonna be ok." Jay smiled.

"That is good news." Lily said.

"Come get some pancakes kids." I said.

The kids smiled and set at the table with me and Jay. Then they both grabbed their breakfast.

"Kids, you're mom and I need to talk you about something." Jay said.

"I didn't do it!" Jax screamed.

"Relax sport, you're not in trouble this time." Jay laughed.

"Oops, sorry force of habit." Jax calmed down.

"Anyway, we wanted to ask you about Matt." I said.

"What about him?" Jax asked.

"Well his parents aren't really around anymore and he doesn't have anywhere else to go." I explained.

"You mean he doesn't have a family?" Lily frowned.

"Not that we know of." I frowned.
"But I was thinking that since he fits in so well with this family, that we could make him part of ours."

"What does that mean?" Jax asked.

"It means that your mom and I would become Matt's legal guardians." Jay smiled.

"You mean he would be our brother?" Lily asked.

"In a way yes." I said. "Now this would be Matt's decision to make, but we wanted to see how you two felt about it first."

"Does this mean, I'll have to share my room forever?" Jax asked.

"Actually, I think with Cole helping me it wouldn't be that hard to put up a few walls in the basement and give him his own room down there." Jay offered.

"Oh, well in that case, I think it would be fun to have a brother for once." Jax agreed.

"Lily what about you?" Jay asked.

"Absolutely." Lily smiled.

"Alright then, I guess we're all in a agreement." I smiled.

Matt's P.O.V.:

I finished my shower, got dressed and went to my bedroom. Jax wasn't there so I figured he got hungry. I sat in my bed and tried to get some sleep, but my head was hurting again. I definitely should have taken Mrs. Walker's offer for healing tea, but they went through the trouble of opening their home to me. They've already given me so much and I don't want to ask them for anything more or bother them with my stupid problems.

The closest thing to a memory I have is that girl I saw from my dream, Lena. I knew where she was but she had the whole VKA with her. There's no way I could take them all by myself and I didn't want Jax and Lily to go in alone after that battle with them yesterday.

"Hey Matt." Mr. Walker looked into the room. "Is this a bad time?"

"No sir." I said. "What do you need?"

"Oh, well we have something that we wanted to talk to you about." He said.

"Am I in trouble?"

"No. It's nothing bad, I promise. We just want to ask you something."

"I'll be down in a minute." I told him.

"Ok."

He walked out and went back downstairs. I tried to get off my bed but my head was still spinning a little so I waited for a few minutes. I got bored of just sitting there and I started to close my eyes and drift off...

Me and my parents were at the park throwing a frisbee around. My dad threw it to me, but he threw it too far and it landed in a tree.

"I'll get it." I yelled.

I ran to the tree and started to climb it. I had almost reached the frisbee when I lost my grip and I fell off.

I woke up and caught my breath. My head hurt worse now and I was dizzy. I then remembered that the Walkers wanted to see me so I had to power through and go downstairs. I walked to the staircase, but I was so dizzy I couldn't see what was in front of me and I fell. I passed out after that...

**********

"Matt? Can you hear me?" I heard a voice say.

I slowly opened my eyes to see Mr. Zane in front of me. The Walkers were with me too. I set up and my head was still hurting.

"Easy buddy. You took a pretty hard fall." Mr. Walker warned me.

"He might have a headache for a while, but with a little rest he should be fine." Zane told the Walkers.

"Thanks so much for coming over on such short notice Zane." Mrs. Walker said. "I would have called Kira but I'm sure she needs to rest after what happened."

"It's not a problem Nya." Mr. Zane said. "Anything for a friend."

"How are you feeling Matt?" Mr. Walker asked me.

"My head hurts." I frowned.

"That's normal after a fall like that." Mrs. Walker said. "That's why we called Zane to make sure you didn't have a concussion."

"Oh, well thank you for taking care of me." I said.

"Of course, we're always here for you Matt." Mrs Walker smiled.

"He doesn't appear to have sustained any major injuries from his fall, but he does seem to be experiencing some memory loss from an earlier incident." Mr. Zane said. "That could also be contributing to his recent migraines."

"You still don't remember anything from before we found you that night?" Mr. Walker asked.

I frowned and shook my head. I got dizzy again and held my head.

"That's what's been bothering you lately, isn't it?" Mrs. Walker asked and I nodded. "Why didn't you tell us about this?"

"Because I... I didn't want to bother you." I stuttered.

"Look buddy, as long as you're staying with us you can always come to us with anything that's bothering you." Mr. Walker smiled.

"Yeah, we want you to feel welcome here." Mrs. Walker said.

"Thanks, that's very nice of you." I said.

"Have you been getting enough sleep lately?" Mr. Zane asked me.

I shook my head. "I've barely slept at all."

"Why?" Mr. Walker asked.

The Walkers have been so nice to me. It's time I tell them the truth.

"Because when I sleep, I dream about my parents, but they never have an ending." I sighed. "Every time I think a memory is coming back to me, it disappears. I know my parents are gone now, but it'd be nice to at least have some memories of them. However I can't even remember who I was before you guys found me."

"I'm sure they'll come back to you in time." Mrs. Walker said.

"What if they don't?" I asked her.

"Then you focus on the present, not the past." Mr. Walker smiled. "When do you think you lost them?"

"That girl casts a spell on me the night you found me. I don't remember anything before that."

"Maybe we can find her and get her to reverse it somehow." Mr. Walker suggested.

"There's no telling where the Villain Kid Alliance is after they got away." Mrs. Walker said. "We promise we'll do everything we can to help you get your memories back, but until then you need to be honest with us. Alright?"

"Alright." I sighed. "I'm sorry."

"Don't be sorry Matt, we're just glad you're ok." Mr. Walker smiled.

"Well I should really get going now. I told Pixal and Alex this would be a short trip." Mr. Zane said.

"How is Alex?" Mrs. Walker asked.

"He's doing great actually. We got his arm fixed up and he got his powers back." Mr. Zane smiled. "I just wish we could catch the one who hit him though. Me and Pixal are trying to track them down, but we haven't had much luck."

"Maybe I could help." I said.

"What do you mean?" Mrs. Walker asked.

"That robot kid is part of the VKA, which means wherever he is the others will be there too, including the girl who did that to me." I said.

"Matt I don't think that's a very good idea right now." Mrs. Walker frowned. "Maybe you should rest a little before you do that."

"Well I am tired." I yawned.

"If you guys would like to help with the mysterious whereabouts of the Villain Kid Alliance, Pixal, Alex and I will be working on it tomorrow." Mr. Zane said. "You guys can come over then."

"Sounds great Zane, thanks again." Mrs. Walker smiled.

"Of course."

Zane got his things and left. Then Jax and Lily came back into the room.

"Is he ok now?" Lily asked.

"He's gonna be fine guys." Mr. Walker smiled.

"Great." Jax smiled. "Can we tell him now?"

"Tell me what?" I asked.

"Well Matt, we know that your old family isn't around anymore, but we'd be really happy if you'd like to be a part of our family." Mrs. Walker smiled.

She handed me a stack of papers and I realized they were forms for for them to become my legal guardians. I couldn't believe it.

"You all really want me here?" I asked.

"Of course we do." Mr. Walker said. The rest of them nodded in agreement. "I'll even put some walls up in the basement so you can have your own room."

I had to think about this. I really liked staying here and the Walkers were really nice people, but I didn't want to keep bugging them about the search for memories of my real parents. If they were going to be my new parents, then I feel like it would be weird to keep searching for answers.

"If I sign this, does this mean I have to stop trying to get my memories back about my real parents?" I asked.

"Of course not." Mrs. Walker said. "We're not trying to replace your family, we're just trying to welcome you into ours."

"Well in that case, am I allowed to call you Mom and Dad?" I asked.

They all nodded and I ran to my new family. They all covered me in hugs. I think I was gonna like it here with my new family.

Lloyd's P.O.V.:

After being discharged from the hospital earlier today, Kira and I were excited to be home with the kids and my mother, who insisted on taking care of us. I didn't mind though, all that mattered was that my family was safe and back together again.

I was feeling a lot better, especially because I hadn't had any more nightmares since they arrested Akamu. It was just so relieving knowing that I didn't have to fight Ryder. Most of my injuries were almost healed except my ribs would hurt whenever I would try to walk and my wrist still hurt every now and then, but at least I was home with my family.

As for Kira, she was feeling a lot better too. Most of her injuries had healed and her cold was mostly over, but she told me her knee was still hurting so me and the kids were trying to take care of ourselves so she wouldn't have to take care of us. But Kira's the most caring person in the world, so it would be a challenge.

My dad and Wu were coming over a lot more often. I never thought I'd say this, but it was actually nice having my dad around. He got along great with Ryder and Ashley and he was always there when I needed parenting advice, which was more often than I care to admit. It was nice of him to try and make up for all that lost time, with the kids at least.

With everything that happened recently, my dad and I haven't been able to spend hardly any time together. I know it sounds like I'm jealous, but I'm not. I'm glad he was getting along so well with the kids and that he was patching things up with my mom, but I just got him back and I don't want to lose him again. I just wish that he made more time for me.

I was in my bedroom just trying to stay off my feet when my mom walked in. She had some healing tea with her.

"Hey son, how are you feeling?" She asked.

"I'm doing better." I said. "How's Kira?"

"She's still asleep in the guest room." She said.

Kira had insisted on sleeping in the guest bedroom until her cold went away completely so she wouldn't get me sick. I didn't mind because it was on the main floor and she wouldn't have to climb the stairs, which because of her knee I didn't want her too anyway.

"Good, she needs to be resting." I said.

My mom sat down next to me and handed me some healing tea. I thanked her and started to drink it.

"What are the kids up to?" I asked.

"They're playing a video game with their great uncle Wu. I think he's losing though." Mom laughed.

"Oh, Wu and Dad are here?"

"Yeah, I'm sorry but I needed all the help I could get. I love my grandkids to pieces, but they can be a handful."

"I get that." I giggled. "Hey Mom, can I talk to you about something?"

"Lloyd, I think I know where this is going."

"You do?"

"Yes, and I know that things are different now and that it must be hard to see us together again, but you're dad and I are better off as friends."

"What? Ew! No that's not what I was gonna say." I said. "I meant that I love that Dad is back and that he's getting along with you and the kids so well, but now that I finally have him back in my life, it feels like he never has time for me."

"Well he's been feeling the same way lately." She said. "I know what might make you feel better, come with me."

She helped me up and lead me to the kitchen where I saw my dad sitting there. In front of him was a medium size box wrapped in wrapping paper and the tag said my name on it.

"Is that for me?" I asked.

"I understand I missed quite a few of your birthdays." He smiled. "I know this doesn't make up for everything, but I hope it's a good start."

I set down and ripped open the box. I took out the object and it was a brand new baseball glove. I've wanted one since I was seven, but back then I didn't have a father I could play catch with.

I looked at my dad absolutely speechless. I didn't know what to say.

"I think we're long overdue for a nice father-son game." He smiled.

I ran to him and gave him a hug. Even though I would have to wait till I recovered enough to use it, it was the best gift I had ever gotten. I couldn't wait to finally spend some time with my father.
