Catching Up

Cole's P.O.V.:

It was morning and I came downstairs to get some breakfast. Seliel was already in the kitchen eating her breakfast, but I didn't see Allison. She was pretty tired when she got home the other day, so it was probably best we let her sleep in a little.

I made myself some cereal and set down next to my wife.

"Morning Cole." Seliel yawned and took a sip of her coffee.

"Morning." I replied.

As I was about to start eating when the doorbell rang. I got up from the table and opened the front door.

There was a man standing on my porch. He looked just like me minus the beard and mustache. It was like looking into a very weird mirror. I felt some kind of strange connection with him.

"Can I help you?" I asked him.

"Uhh yeah, does someone named..." He looked at the piece of paper he was holding. "...Cole live here?"

"Yeah, that's me." I nodded.

"Finally!" The man exclaimed as he pulled me into a hug suddenly.

I was so confused. Who was this guy? Why did he look just like me?

"Uhh I like a good hug as much as the next guy, but do you mind telling me who you are?" I said.

"Oh, I'm sorry." He let go. "It's just, I haven't seen you since we were kids."

"I'm sorry, I don't remember you."

"That's ok, I didn't remember you up until a few days ago either." He said.

I looked at him again but nothing stuck. I felt like I knew him somehow, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

"It's a long story, but my name is Kirby and I think we're brothers." Kirby looked at me.

"Umm, I think you got the wrong house buddy, I never had a brother." I told him.

Without saying a word, he handed me a piece of paper. I looked at it and he said that his parents' names were Emma Goldberg and Lou Brookstone and he was born three years before I was.

"Wait, why wouldn't my dad tell me I had a brother?" I asked him.

"My parents didn't tell me about you either." He looked at me.

"But it says right here that your dad is my dad."

"He is, but my birth parents were very young when they had me, so I was adopted and only found out recently when my adoptive father passed." He explained. "He said that he wanted me to find you."

I looked at the paper again. We definitely had the same dad, but different mothers. I wish I could've asked my father but he passed away a few years ago. I didn't have a lot family left other than Seliel, Allison, Seliel's Dad and step mom, and my uncle and cousin. But like my dad always said, it's called a family tree because trees don't shrink and they don't stop growing. Maybe having a brother would be kind of cool.

"It's a really long story, basically my birth mom died in childbirth and our dad couldn't raise me on his own, so he gave me to the Marrow family." He explained. "I have another brother named Casey, he was adopted too."

"So... you're really my brother?" I looked at him.

"I guess I am." He said awkwardly.

"Wow, this is so cool. I've never had a real brother before." I exclaimed.

"Yeah, I mean Casey is a great brother but there's always room for more." He smiled.

"You wanna come in and meet your niece?" I smiled.

"Wait, I'm an uncle too?" Kirby smiled.

"Yep." I nodded. "She's a master of Earth like me."

"Earth powers?" He said confused.

"Oh yeah, It comes from my mother's side." I told him. "You probably don't have them."

"That sounds pretty cool." He said.

"Dad?"

I turned around to see Allison rubbing her eyes and yawning. She still seemed really tired after her mission last night.

"Good morning cupcake." I said.

"Morning." She yawned again and noticed Kirby on the porch. "Who's that?"

"You must be Allison." Kirby smiled at her.

"How do you know my name?" Allison asked.

"Allison, this is your uncle Kirby. Kirby, this is my daughter Allison." I introduced them.

"Uncle?" She looked at him confused.

"It's a long story." I told them.

"Well Kirby, would you like to stay over tonight." Seliel asked him.

"That sounds great but I'm staying with my other brother Casey." He replied. "But I would like to get to know you all."

"How about you stay for breakfast then?" I suggested.

"That sounds great." Kirby smiled.

Kirby set down with us at the table and told us all kinds of stories of when he was growing up. Allison was a little iffy about him at first, but it didn't take long for her to came around to the idea of having an uncle. Maybe this having a brother would be pretty cool.

Pixal's P.O.V.:

I was on my way home from the forest. It was pouring down rain and I was trying to navigate through the storm. It was hard to determine the pattern of the lightning strikes. It was unpredictable.

It was becoming difficult to see outside the small vehicle my father provided. The windshield wipers needed a major tune up. I kept going until lightning struck a tree in front of me and fell on top of my vehicle...

I woke up and it was still raining. I looked out the window and all I could see was water. Being a robot, I didn't have to worry about drowning, but the water had damaged the vehicle to the point I couldn't get out.

I tried to open the hatch from the inside, but it was no use. My leg was also trapped underneath the tree and I was unable to move it.

I just hope I would see Zane and Alex again.

Zane's P.O.V.:

It had been pretty lonely around here since Pixal left for her mission. The team had gotten busy lately so Cass didn't come to visit as much as she used to. I was starting to miss Alex and Pixal.

I looked at the news on the TV. They were doing a weather report on a freak storm over Hiroshi's Labyrinth. They said that the weather conditions had caused severe flooding and possibly trees down from lightning strikes.

Out of worry, I called Pixal on my phone, but it went straight to voicemail. That's when I got worried and decided I had to go after her.

I knew my dragon would never make to Hiroshi's Labyrinth, but I didn't have time to think of anything else, so it would have to do. I formed it started the long journey.

It took hours but I was finally close enough to Hiroshi's Labyrinth to see the storm clouds hovering over the jungle. It was too dangerous to fly in, so I landed and continued on foot.

I found some tire tracks in the mud and I followed them until the I was led to a ditch that was filled with water. I looked inside and there it was. That was the vehicle Pixal had taken and she was probably still inside.

"Pixal?" I shouted. "Pixal can you hear me?"

I didn't hear her response.

There was a fallen tree on top of the vehicle and I lifted it off. I forced the hatch open and found her inside almost completely offline.

I pulled her out and swam her to safety. Her leg seemed damaged from the impact of the tree.

"Pixal? Pixal wake up. Can you hear me?"

She opened her optics and looked at me. I sighed with relief as she woke up.

"Zane?" She looked at me. "What happened? How did you get here?"

A crash of thunder came from above us.

"I'll fill you in later. We have to get you out of this rain." I insisted.

She nodded and I helped her to her feet. I walked over to a small ledge of rock that would serve as shelter from the storm. I helped Pixal sit down and took a look at her leg. There was a huge cut through her exoskeleton and some of the wires had been disconnected, but it was nothing beyond repair. However I lacked the tools necessary to fix her at the moment.

"Is it bad?" She asked me.

"Nothing I cannot fix, but we have to wait until we get home." I told her. "Are you damaged anywhere else?"

"Negative." She answered. She checked all over for something but she couldn't find it. "Oh no, the sap! It must still be in the vehicle."

Pixal set up and tried to stand but her leg was still hurt. I carefully set her back down.

"Pixal, you can't go out there in your condition." I said.

"Zane, I have to get it back. Alex needs it." She insisted.

"We can get more sap when the storm passes."

"But we can't. The tree was on its last legs and the sap was almost completely gone. I got the last of it."

"Then we'll find another way." I insisted. "But we can't let you go out there again."

"Zane if we don't repair Alex's heart soon there's no chance of getting him back to normal." She frowned.

"We'll figure something out. I promise."

I set down next to her and we heard another crash of thunder. She cuddled next to me and cried on my shoulder. I hoped that I would be able to keep my promise, but at this point I didn't know how.

Zach's P.O.V.:

Maizy and I were outside Kryptarian Prison waiting to go inside. I could tell Maizy was nervous about being there and she was like that the whole way over. I didn't blame her though, I was nervous myself.

"Are you ready?" I looked at Maizy.

"Ready as I'll ever be." She shrugged.

"Hey don't worry." I grabbed her hand. "I'm not gonna let him hurt you again."

"We're just gonna tell him about my mom and get out of there. That's it."

"That's all you want to say?"

"That's all he needs to know. If he wants to know anything else we don't tell him."

"Ok." I nodded. "Let's go."

I took her hand and we went inside. We talked to the warden and he let us go to the visiting room to see Akamu. We set down across the table from him.

Even though Akamu was handcuffed and we were surrounded by security, I was keeping my eyes on Maizy the whole time. The last thing I wanted to do was let him near her again, but this was her decision. The least I could do was protect her.

"Maizy? Zach? What are both doing here?" Akamu asked.

"I... I thought you were lonely." Maizy stuttered.

"I missed you." Akumu smiled at her.

"Me too, but Uncle Zach has been taking care of me, more than you ever did." She crossed her arms.

"Maizy, I..."

"You lied to me!" She yelled. "All those years I thought she was gone, and you left her suffering in a room by herself and you didn't even think to tell me!"

"How did you know about...?" Akamu looked me dead in the eyes, like he was about to snap. Luckily the security guards noticed this and their gazes were enough to get him to calm down for now, but I could tell he was still furious with me.

"You killed her didn't you?" He yelled.

"Akamu, we both know that's what was best for her." I said.

"But I was so close! This was my one chance to bring her back and now it's too late. You ruined everything!"

"Dad, it was me!" Maizy yelled. "It was my call. I'm sorry but I couldn't stand to see her like that."

"You were never supposed to see her like that." Akamu looked at her.

"For years and years you didn't want me to see her at all. I didn't even know she was alive until Zach told me what happened." Maizy frowned.

"I was going to surprise you when I got her to wake up. If I had just gotten that girl's powers I could've..."

"You would've killed her." I interrupted him. "You don't care about that do you? The only thing you care about is yourself."

"I was trying to put this family back together and I thought you were on board with it too. Didn't you want her back?"

"Of course I did, but it wasn't worth risking another life in the process." I frowned. "You took that risk and look where it got you. You let the rest of us go while trying to save the one person you knew you couldn't be saved. You knew she didn't want to be saved. If she did, she wouldn't have saved Maizy that day."

The whole room fell completely silent. It felt like everyone was watching me, but that didn't stop me.

"Our family was torn apart but I was not going to let you risk another family losing someone because of you." I yelled. "Zoey was a hero, and you failed to keep the one promise you made to her. You promised to protect Maizy but you neglected her, abused her and lied to her. What does that make you?"

"A terrible husband and an even more terrible father." He sighed.

He looked into Maizy's eyes, but she didn't seem interested in what he had to say.

"Maizy, I... I know this doesn't even begin to make up for anything, but I'm sorry." Akamu frowned. "I know that you are never going to forgive me and I'm ok with that because I don't deserve it, but I should've given you the life you deserved. The life your mom wanted for you. I know it's too late, but I hope that we can start over someday?"

Maizy looked at Akumu with tears running down her face. Never in a million years did I think the words "I'm sorry" would come out of his mouth. I haven't heard him sound that sincere since the day Zoey was in the car accident.

"Father, I... I don't forgive you." Maizy looked down. "I don't think we can start over either. I like living with Uncle Zach now and I don't really want you back in my life. Maybe in time I'll come to forgive you but, I don't know if I ever will."

"I understand." Akamu sighed. Then he looked up at me. "Take care of her the way I never did."

"We'll be ok." I nodded. I looked over at Maizy.

"He's been taking really good care of me." Maizy said.

"Are you still in that club?" Akamu winked at her.

"I'm actually going to quit so I won't end up like you." Maizy stood up.

Maizy marched out of that room like a champion. She had said everything she needed to say. I followed her out and we got in the car. She didn't say a word the whole way home. I was just so glad that our visit didn't end any worse than it was.
