Time With The Twins

Jay's P.O.V.:

It was in the morning and Nya was leaving to take her brother to the hospital for his back. She didn't tell me how Kai got hurt, but it sounded pretty bad. That meant that I would get to watch the kids for the day. It was always fun when I would have the twins to myself, but these little trouble makers were quite a handful.

"Are you sure you're ok with taking care of the twins today?" Nya asked me. "I can always tell Kai I'll take him another day."

"No way, your brother needs you right now." I insisted. "Trust me I have this all under control."

"Remember that Jax isn't allowed to climb any trees, and don't let Lily swallow anything." Nya said. "Oh and they might start showing signs of powers soon, so make sure you keep an eye on them."

"Relax, I've got this." I assured her. "If anything happens I'll be sure to call you."

"Ok, thanks." Nya smiled. "I love you."

"I love you too." I said.

We shared a kiss and she formed her dragon and left. Then I went to wake up Jax and Lily.

"Hey kiddos, who's ready for a fun day with Daddy?" I asked standing in the doorway of their bedroom.

They both lifted their blankets over their head and groaned. This was usually how they were in the morning.

"I got doughnuts." I said.

"Yay!" Both of them exclaimed as they jumped out of bed.

"Always works." I said to myself.

They went into the kitchen and grabbed their doughnuts out of the box on the counter. They set down on the table and started to eat them. I grabbed one and joined them.

"So what do you kiddos want to do today?" I asked them.

They looked at each other and shrugged. That usually meant they didn't know.

"How about we go to Mega Monster Amusement Park?" I suggested.

"We're too short to ride anything." Jax said.

"Ok then how about mini golf?" I said.

"Nah." Lily rolled her eyes.

"Then how about a trip to the arcade?" I said.

"Sounds fun!" My son exclaimed.
"Sounds boring." My daughter sighed at the same time.

"The mall?" I suggested.

"Sounds fun!" Lily exclaimed.
"Sounds boring." Jax rolled his eyes at the same time.

"Ok, what about the park?"

"The park?!" They both said at once, rolling their eyes.

"Come on guys, it'll be fun." I insisted.

"Daddy that sounds lame." Lily said.

"You know it's bad if me and Lily agree on something." Jax crossed his arms.

"Great you agree. The park it is." I said to them. "Now go get ready."

The twins sighed in defeat and reluctantly went into their room to get ready. I knew that if they went to the park they would be tired out by the time they get home. I piled the kids onto my dragon and flew them to the park.

First we went to the playground and I watched as the kids ran around on it. Jax was having fun on the monkey-bars while I was pushing Lily on a swing.

Me and Nya has always talked about having more kids, but I had a low possibility of being able to have kids in the first place. We got very lucky when we found out we were gonna have a baby, and we were even more excited when we learned they were twins. Honestly we were just happy we got so lucky with them.

"Daddy I want an underdog please." My daughter asked.

"Ok here it comes." I agreed. "Hold on tight."

I pulled her swing back and ran underneath it pushing it up in the air. Lily laughed as the swing went higher.

"See I told you you would have fun." I smiled.

I was so busy with Lily, I didn't realize Jax was starting to climb a tree. I turned around and noticed him reaching the top of it.

"Jaxon Fritz Walker!" I screamed and ran over to him. "You come down from there right now!"

"Relax Daddy, I know what I'm doing." Jax said as he continued to climb the tree.

"I don't care, get down from there or no video games tomorrow!" I threatened.

"Fine fine, I'm coming down." He rolled his eyes and began to climb down.

As he stuck his foot on one of the branches and it broke off. He dangled from the branch he was holding on to until he lost his grip and fell. Luckily I was able to catch him right before he hit the ground. Lily jumped off the swing and ran over to us.

"Jax are you ok?" I asked him as I checked him for injuries.

"Yeah yeah I'm fine." He answered catching his breath. "We don't tell have to tell Mom about this right?"

"I won't if you won't." I winked.

Jax was a lot like me. He was always trying dangerous stunts like I was that age, and he was stubborn like my wife. Not a very good combination if you ask me.

"Little brother, you really have to stop falling out of trees." Lily shook her head in disappointment at Jax.

"I know." My son sighed.

"You've got to be more careful son." I said to Jax as I put him down. "You could've gotten hurt."

"Coming from the blue ninja?" He snarked.

"That's different, I was highly trained and always prepared." I told him. "You're just a kid."

"So that's how you see me? Just a kid?" He screamed.

"No Jax that's not what I..."

I saw tears in his eyes and he ran off before I could finish my sentence. Lily ran away with him. I chased them through the park and they led me to an old hiking trail the park had shut down for being too dangerous. They ducked passed the rope and ran inside. As a responsible parent, I tried to run in after them but I was stopped by the park ranger.

"Halt! Who goes there?" He asked.

"Sorry sir, my kids ran in there, I have to make sure they don't get themselves hurt." I explained.

"I didn't see any kids run in there." The park ranger said.

"Are you sure you didn't see anyone? They just ran by here." I grew frustrated. "Look I said something to my son that I really shouldn't have said and my daughter ran off with him. I need to find them and apologize."

"Look I've been at this job for 30 odd years, I think I would've seen a couple kids run passed me." He said.

All of a sudden I heard what sounded like Lily and Jax screaming from the trail.

"Hang on Jax and Lily! Daddy's coming!" I screamed past the park ranger. "Sorry about this, but my family comes first."

"Wait wh-?"

I used my Spinjitsu to knock him out. Then I jumped the fence and went to where I heard the screaming come from. When I finally found them, Jax and Lily were in a tree and our old friend Crabby was at the bottom of the tree trying to knock it down.

"Hey big guy, get away from my kids!"

I charged my powers and shot a lightning bolt at his head, then he turned around and started charging at me instead. I jumped on his back and picked a piece of fruit from a tree I reached.

"Go Daddy go!" My twins cheered me on from the tree.

"Alright Crabby, time for lunch." I smiled.

I threw the fruit in the opposite direction of the kids and crabby stood up on his hind legs so I fell off of him. He ran after the fruit and the kids were safe for the time being. I got up and my side kind of hurt from hitting the ground, but I ignored it and went to check on my kids.

"You guys ok?" I called up to them.

"We're fine Daddy." Lily called down. "That was awesome!"

"Why do you care? We're just kids." Jax crossed his arms.

"Forget what I said, you can throw your temper tantrum after we get out of here." I said.

Lily looked at Jax and shrugged. Jax just looked away, his arms still crossed. Then Lily worked her down the tree, but I had a better idea.

"Ok kiddos hang on, I'm coming to you." I said.

I formed my dragon and flew up to the top of the tree. Then I took both of the kids on it and flew them back home. When we got there my side was still sore, but bearable. Anyway I couldn't worry about that now. I set my kids down and had a talk with them.

"Alright look, what I said back there, I'm sorry." I told Jax and Lily. "I didn't mean to say you're just kids, you're so much more than that. One day you're gonna do something incredible with your life and your gonna find something you love and your gonna help a lot of people. But for now, you're my kids and you should enjoy being a kid while you can, because once it's gone, it's gone."

Jax and Lily came up to me and hugged me. My side still hurt from when I fell, but I was able to ignore it. I'm so happy we got so lucky with them.

"I'm sorry Daddy." Jax had tears in his eyes.

"It's ok sport." I smiled.

"We're not telling Mom about this, right?" Lily asked with a quiver.

"We'll see how you two behave." I said. "Now go take a nap you two."

"Yes Daddy." They said together before walking into their room.

I got a text from Nya saying that she was on the way home, so I had a little time to myself. I decided to take some pain medicine for my side but when I got up to get it and I realized how bad it was. It hurt a lot and I was barely able to walk, so I just set back down.

I had broken my rib once before in a round of scrap 'n' tap on Nadakhan's ship. Sometimes it would ache every now and then so I probably just triggered the pain when I fell off Crabby. This hurt worse than just a few aches though, but I couldn't go to the hospital or I would have to come clean to Nya and tell her about what happened. I've seen a lot of scary things in my life as a ninja, but nothing scares me more than Nya when she's angry.

Then Nya came home through the door.

"Hey sparky, how did it go with the twins today?" Nya asked me.

"It went fine. How's Kai's back?" I asked.

"They said he'll be fine in a couple days if he rests, but you know how he is about staying off his feet." She shrugged. "Where are the kids?"

"They're taking a nap right now." I told her. "We just got back from the park."

"Oh sounds like you guys had fun."

"We did." I said. Then my side started to hurt and I was holding it.

"Are you alright Jay?" She pointed to my side.

"Yeah it's just I was playing with Jax and I fell off the playground." I lied.

"Fine if you won't tell me then I'll just ask the twins when they wake up." Nya crossed her arms.

"Fine." I sighed. "When I took the kids to the park, we had a... a little adventure."

"What kind of adventure?" She asked, her hands on her hips.

"Well..." I began.

I ended up telling her everything. She was not happy.

"Jay! I told you to keep an eye on them!" She yelled.

"I was!" I defended myself. "Look the point is I got them back safe and sound and that's all that matters right?"

"You're right, I'm sorry." She took a deep breath.

"It's ok." I said. "I'm sorry Nya."

I gave her a hug and she hugged me back. Then she touched my side and I groaned. She stopped and looked at it.

"Are you sure you're ok?" Nya asked.

"I think I hurt it when I fell off Crabby." I admitted. "It's probably fine."

"Ok hang on, I'll go get you some ice for that." She said sitting me down on the couch.

"Nya you really don't need to do that." I told her even though she was already half way to the kitchen.

Nya ran back in with an ice pack and some pain medication. I took it and then she set the ice pack on my rib. It really hurt when she did.

"Ow!" I screamed.

"Sorry." She apologized. "You sure you're alright?"

"I'll be fine." I assured her. "What happened at the hospital?"

"Oh yeah, so we saw Lloyd and Ryder there along with Misako and Kira." Nya said.

"What were they doing at the hospital? Are they ok?" I wondered.

"Well Lloyd and Ryder actually had a little journey of their own." She said. "You see..."

She told me the whole story.

"Wait, Garmadon saved Ryder's life?" I was so confused. "Am I thinking of the same Garmadon that made Ninjago a living nightmare for everyone, or does Lloyd have another relative I don't know about?"

"That was my reaction too." She sighed. "But he saved Lloyd's son. If it were one of our kids, we would be as grateful as he is."

"Yeah I get that." I sighed.

"Lloyd said he was gonna see to his father today and do him some big favor for saving his son."

"I just hope he knows what he's getting himself into." I said.

"Yeah me too." Nya agreed. "Are you sure you're alright?"

Nya touched my side where she knew I had broken it before and it hurt more than normal.

"Ouch!" I screamed.

"Ok Jay it seems really bad this time. We definitely need to take you to the hospital." Nya said.

"No way, we don't have anyone to watch the kids." I said. "Besides it's probably just hurting from when I broke it on Misfortune's Keep. No big deal."

"Oh you're right, I forgot about that." Nya admitted. "Well if it's not any better by tomorrow, I'll take you then."

"Deal." I agreed. Then I looked at the time. "Ooo that Starfarrer movie marathon is on. Hand me the remote please."

"Sure."

Nya turned on the TV and was about to hand me the remote, when we saw Lloyd on TV. He was standing in front of Kryptarian Prison with that news reporter girl that Dareth was married to.

"Wait am I seeing things or is that..." I started.

"Lloyd." Nya finished.

"Turn it up." I said.

Nya turned the TV up and I couldn't believe what was going on. Lloyd had told Gail that he was setting Lord Garmadon free. He said that the ninja would always be there to protect the people, but me and Nya knew that wasn't true. Our lives as Ninja were over now that we have families to take care of.

"Hang on." Nya took out her phone.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"Texting my brother to make sure he doesn't do anything stupid." She said.

"Oh yeah good idea, Kai shouldn't be doing anything too stressful right now with his back and the baby on the way." I agreed.

"You know how hotheaded he can be, especially about Garmadon."

"Oh yeah I remember." I rolled my eyes. "Remember that time he thought fighting Lord Garmadon would prove he was the green ninja?" I laughed.

"That's Kai for ya." She laughed along.

"What about Uncle Kai?" Jax asked walking on us, Lily right behind him.

"He's a hothead, that's what." Nya rolled her eyes and put up her phone as we all laughed. "Did you guys have fun with Dad today?"

"Yeah we did." Lily said.

All of a sudden I noticed that Lily looked really sweaty, and Jax's hair was sticking up like he had been shocked by something electric. Nya must've noticed it too because she was giving me looks.

"They were totally fine when we got home I swear." I threw my arms up in the air.

"Are you guys feeling ok?" Nya ran to them.

"Yeah, dad just shocked the game controllers so I wouldn't play it." Jax crossed his arms and glared at me.

"I would never do that." I said. "You're probably just inheriting my lightning powers. The same thing happened to me as a kid."

"So I'm gonna have powers like you?" He asked excitedly.

"Looks like it sport." I smiled.

"Lily dear, why are you so sweaty? Are you getting sick?" Nya touched her forehead.

"I feel fine Mommy." Lily said.

"You sure sweetie?" I asked my daughter.

"Yeah Daddy, I'm fine." She replied.

"Do you think she might be inheriting your powers too?" I looked at Nya.

"That would be my guess but I didn't get my powers till I was like fifteen so I don't know." Nya answered.

"Oh yeah I remember." I said.

"Am I gonna get powers too Mama?" Lily asked with excitement.

"That's what it looks like to me." She smiled.

"Yay!" Jax and Lily hugged each other and started jumping up and down.

"They might take a while to come in though." I reminded them.

"Awe." They both sighed sadly.

"Don't worry guys." I assured them. "You'll be able to use them soon enough."

"Your father's right." Nya agreed. "Your powers will come in time."

"Ok." The twins sighed.

"Hey, I was thinking Buddy's Pizza for lunch?" I suggested. It was the only place both of them could agree on without any arguments from the other one.

"Yay!" The twins cheered.

"Sounds good." Nya agreed. "Go get ready to go kids."

The kids rushed into their room to go get ready. Then I tried to get up from the couch but my side was still hurting.

"Ow!" I screamed and set back down.

"Are you gonna be ok?" Nya was concerned.

"Yeah, it's just sore. I just need a little help getting up."

"Oh of course." Nya helped me off the couch. "You sure you're alright?"

"Yeah, let's go." I said.

Nya helped me get ready and we took the kids to Buddy's Pizza. The twins had a great time and we did too. I won Lily a toy out of the claw machine and Jax had fun beating Nya on the racing game, even though she was letting him win. Overall it was a pretty fun day.

After a little while, my side was feeling better. It was still a little sore but I knew I'd be ok. I was just happy that I didn't miss out this time.
