The Wedding Part 3: Last Minute Jitters
Lloyd's P.O.V.:
*********Flashback***********
I had just rescued Ryder earlier that week. I didn't have any supplies or clothes for him yet because everything was destroyed in the accident. So my mom offered to take me and Ryder to the mall so we could get him everything he needed.
I know my mom said she wasn't mad, but she was overwhelmed with the fact that I had just woken up after three years. I guess I dodged a bullet there, but she also didn't know that Ryder was five years old at that time so I needed a chance to explain things.
We were at the food court in the mall and we had brought Nya with us because I wasn't feeling one-hundred percent yet, and I knew Ryder trusted her so she would protect him in case something happened and I wasn't able to. A bit overprotective I know, but after what he went through, I wasn't taking any chances.
"Come on Ryder, let's go get you some ice cream." Nya said.
"Ice cream?" He sounded confused.
"It's ok son, you're gonna like it." I told him.
"O-ok." He stuttered and went with Nya to the ice cream shop. I finally had the chance to talk with my mom.
"Mom, are you ok with this?" I asked her.
"What do you mean?" She asked.
"I mean about Ryder." I said. "He's actually 5 and a half."
"I was wondering why you two had gotten married so early." She said.
"Yeah, I can explain that." I scratched the back of my head awkwardly.
"I'm listening."
"First off, it wasn't entirely my fault." I said. "Harumi made me do a lot of things that I had no control over and it was always on her terms. So I understand if your mad and you can take it out on me all you want, but Ryder's innocent in all this. I want you to be a part of his life."
"I see." My mom said. "Well I'm sorry you had to go through that, but you got something pretty amazing out of it." She smiled and looked over at Ryder who was experiencing his first brain freeze.
"Yeah, and don't worry, that won't happen again." I assured her.
"Were you afraid of what I was going to say about it? Is that why you didn't tell me?"
"No, she wouldn't let me tell anyone about him, if I did she would threaten to hurt whoever found out. Even the doctors who delivered Ryder were sworn to secrecy." I frowned. "Kai knew about it, but he kept quiet because he knew what was going to happen if he told anyone and I never let her find out that he knew. I was just trying to keep everyone safe."
"You did the right thing." Mom nodded.
"And yet I still couldn't keep him safe." I looked at Ryder and I frowned. "I promised I would protect him, and I couldn't. I will never forgive myself for letting that happen to him."
"You couldn't be there for him back then, but now you have a second chance. And if you need any help, I'm always here for you and my grandson." She smiled.
"Thanks for being so cool about this mom." I smiled. "Your gonna be an awesome grandma."
We hugged and she forgave me. I have the best mom ever. Then Nya came back over to the table with Ryder, who was just recovering from a brain freeze, but he kept eating his ice cream so I figured he was ok.
"Do you like it buddy?" I asked him.
"It's sooooo good but it's sooooo coooold." He said holding his head and continued to lick his ice cream.
"I told you not eat so fast." Nya laughed and so did we. Even Ryder was laughing, and that was one of the first times I had seen him laugh since he was rescued. It made me know that everything was gonna be ok.
*******Flashback Ends*******
Now that the wedding was tomorrow, and I could not have been more nervous. I just hoped everything would go ok for my family's sake.
[A/N: I know it's out of place, but I had no where else to put that flashback. Sorry.]
Kira's P.O.V.:
"Hey Ryd, what are you watching?" I set down in the living room with him.
"It's about Daddy." He said as he turned up the volume.
"...And it was on this day, seven years ago, that the city was taken back by the ninja and the people of Ninjago City. This also marks the defeat of The Sons of Garmadon, led by Harumi, who supposedly died when a building collapsed during the Oni Titans stampede just days before..."
When the TV showed a picture of Harumi, Ryder frowned and hugged his dragon. I immediately grabbed the remote and turned it off and sent Ryder to play with his toys in his room.
When I saw that picture it jogged my memory of something that happened around the time that she faked her death...
**********Flashback**********
Seven years ago...
I had just heard about the damage to Ninjago City and I signed up as a volunteer to help clean up after all that damage Lord Garmadon did. I wasn't a resident of the city but I knew many people were left with injuries after everything that happened, so I wanted to help in any way I could. With four of the ninja missing, this city needed all the help they could get.
I was looking through the rubble and I saw someone moving underneath. I ran to them and pulled the person out. It was a girl with white long hair and a leather jacket. She was badly injured and barely hanging on for her life.
"Stay calm, I'm hear to help you." I told her.
"L- Llo..." She struggled.
"Shhh, it's ok save your strength." I shushed her. "You'll be ok."
I started to use my powers to heal her injuries. I was almost done and all I had to do was heal her left arm which was broken. I started to do it but then she pushed me away.
"Thanks but I can take it from here." She pulled herself back up. She was limping and holding her arm.
"Please sit back down ma'am. You still have some injuries I need to look at." I said.
"Nope, I'm good." She started limping away.
I was going to go after her but I still had a lot of people to help. Some people just didn't want to be helped I guess.
******End of flashback******
Oh my gosh how could I have been so stupid?! I'm the reason that Lloyd's ex was still alive, I'm the reason that Ryder was tortured and almost beaten to death by his own mother. Why did I have to be a such a nice person? Why didn't I just turn her into prison when I had the chance? And what's worse is that Lloyd still blames himself for what happened to his son, when he should be blaming me. I don't deserve a great guy like him, I don't deserve a son like Ryder. Maybe I shouldn't even have a family at all. I obviously can't handle it like I thought I could.
"Lloyd, I don't feel good about this." I said as I walked into his room.
"That's Just morning sickness, it's normal." He said.
"No, that's not it." I sighed. "I mean that I don't think I can do this."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean... I did something a long time ago that I really shouldn't have done and I am so so sorry..."
"Wait, what did you do?" His eyes lit up.
"This was a long time ago before I met you, don't worry I never cheated on you or anything like that, I promise." I assured him.
"Then what?" He frowned.
"Ok please don't freak out but I think I'm the reason Harumi survived the collapse of that building." I flinched.
"I was wondering how she survived." Lloyd said. "When were you going to tell me?"
"I honestly forgot about the whole thing until I saw a documentary about her on the Ninjago history channel and then I started to recognize her. I had no idea it was her or I would have sent her to prison right away. I am so sorry and if you wanna call off the wedding I..."
"Kira calm down, it's alright." Lloyd tried to calm me down.
"No it's not! It's not alright!" I yelled. "Because of my stupid mistake, Ryder suffered and now we work hard to keep the baby safe and it's all my fault."
"Kira it's ok, I'm not mad." Lloyd said.
"You're not?"
"Of course not." He started massaging my shoulders. "Look, for every bad thing that's ever happened to me in my life, there's always been a silver lining. If you hadn't had saved her that day, Ryder would've never been born."
"Well I guess that's true." I dried my tears.
"And if she hadn't done what she did, I never would've met you." He kissed me on the cheek.
"Yeah." I smiled. "I still remember that day..."
**********Flashback**********
Three years ago...
"Help! Help!" I heard a woman screaming from the waiting room, which that's nothing new at my job, but the gasps from the other patients was unusually disturbing.
I ran down to see what had happened and there stood an older woman and the white ninja and the water ninja with her. I noticed the green ninja on the white ninja's back unconscious. His body was covered with burns and bruises and he was bleeding all over. I had to do something and fast.
I had only been working at that hospital for a few months, but the last time I used my powers to cure someone, my boss almost fired me for not doing things the "proper and expensive way". I knew that if I used my powers to heal him I would risk getting fired, but Lloyd risked his life for Ninjago so many times, it's only fair that I risk my job to save him.
I saw about four nurses get him onto a gurney and roll him into the elevator. The other ninja started pacing the floor and they looked panicked, especially the older woman.
"Is my son going to be ok?" The woman asked a nurse through her tears.
"I can assure you, we'll do everything we can for him but in his condition I would hope for the best but prepare for the worst." The nurse told her.
I immediately followed the other nurses to the intensive care unit where they were taking Lloyd. They hooked him up to life support, but I knew in his condition it was pretty much a lost cause. To be honest it was miracle that there was anything left to save. It was like he was refusing to leave this realm because he had a reason for him to go on. Maybe his friends or a family member?
My friend Ronnie was in there checking his charts and I turned to her.
"Is he stable?" I asked.
"Yes, but not for long." Ronnie sighed. "I'll go tell the family to say their last goodbyes. Man I always hate this part."
"Wait, Maybe I can save him." I put my hands over his heart. It was beating but barely.
"You know if you do that again Mr. Surly is going to fire you." Ronnie reminded me.
"My job is to help people, not charge desperate families thousands of dollars to keep their loved ones alive." I stated. "Those six ninja do so much for Ninjago, and I'm not about to let that number drop to five. So let him fire me if he wants, there's more to life than just making money."
"Ok but it's your funeral."
"Actually it'll be his if I don't do something." I stated.
"Fine but if you get caught, I knew nothing about this." Ronnie said as she left the room.
I closed my eyes and focused all of my energy and emotions on Lloyd. I located where all of his injuries were and he had the whole nine yards. Broken bones, 6th degree burns, internal bleeding, you name it. But he was not only experiencing immense pain but also devastating heartbreak and anger. My powers can't cure emotional pain, but they help me to detect it like a radar. He had been through something truly traumatic, but I didn't have time to figure out the details now, his life was at stake.
My hands glowed with my powers over his nearly lifeless body. I tried my hardest to heal him, but my powers were limited. I could only do so much at one time. I was able to cure his vital functions and life threatening injuries so I could keep him alive, but he was still in a lot of pain and I knew that he wouldn't be waking up any time soon.
I was so exhausted I almost fainted. As I nearly passed out on the floor I heard the sound of the heart monitor starting to beep steadily. He was alive! I knew it would be a long slow recovery for Lloyd, but if I know one thing about ninja, it's that a ninja never quits.
******End of flashback******
Now that there was only a few days left until the wedding, I was more nervous than ever. Not really about the small things because Nya was taking care of that, but I was worried about the one big thing. If Harumi found out about the baby, she might come after me. Usually I wouldn't be afraid of a little danger, but I didn't want anything to happen to the baby.
The problem was that the news crew had known about the wedding, so they were going to broadcast it live. When Lloyd found out I was pregnant, he pulled every string he could to call off the news crew, but they didn't believe any of the fake excuses that he came up with. It's just a good thing that they didn't find out about the baby. That would've been an even bigger story and the last thing we needed was more publicity.
We also thought it would be best to keep it a secret from Ryder for now, at least until after the wedding was over. He's adorable, but you can't trust a six year old with a big secret like that. We couldn't risk anyone finding out, especially Harumi. The less people that know, the better. The only people that knew about it were me, Lloyd, Misako, Nya, and possibly the other ninja if Nya told them. I was just couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen.
???'s P.O.V.:
I had been in this drab prison for a year and I hated it. The guards were keeping an eye on me 24/7. I overheard a conversation that they two idiot guards were having outside my doorway.
"Hey did you hear? The green ninja is getting married again." One guard said to the other one.
"Yeah, I heard that too." The other guard said. "They're getting married in the park tomorrow afternoon."
'Wedding ha?' I thought. 'Well we'll just see about that.'
