The Perfect Date
Lloyd's P.O.V.:
Well, today was the big day. I was going on my first date with Kira and I was pretty excited about it, but it was also my first time away from Ryder since the whole Harumi incident. Don't get me wrong, I knew Nya and Jay would take good care of him, and it made me more comfortable knowing that Cole and Seliel were going to be there too, but I didn't want to leave him without me.
I tried really hard not to be one of those overprotective fathers like Kai or Cole, but after everything that happened with Harumi, I didn't want to take any chances. I made calls to the prison at least twice a day making sure Harumi was still there, which she was, but if I knew anything about her, it's that she was a tricky one. I may have been going a little overboard, but I would do anything to protect my son.
I was at Nya's about to drop Ryder off. Cole, Seliel and Allison, along with Kai's kids, were already there, so Ryder was running around with them and Jax and Lily too.
"Thanks again for watching Ryder tonight." I told Nya.
"It's no problem Lloyd. Anytime." She smiled.
"Just remember to call me if there's any problems. Oh and Ryder's still a little sensitive about the whole thing so try not to mention it. And be sure you keep an eye on him at all times, and make sure you..."
"Lloyd, calm down." Jay stopped me. "Nya's an expert at this. She does this all the time."
"Yeah relax." Nya said. "I promise nothing's going to happen to Ryder on my watch."
"I know, I'm sorry." I sighed. "This is just the first time I've left him since I got him back and I guess I'm just not ready."
"First time father jitters. I've been there buddy." Cole patted me on the back.
Then I looked at the clock. "Oh no, I'm almost late to meet Kira!" I turned to my son. "Ryder, I have to go."
Then Ryder came up to me and gave me a hug. "Good luck Daddy. I love you."
"I love you too son." I smiled. "Be good ok?"
"I will." He nodded.
He gave me one more hug before he went to play with the other kids. Maybe I was being too overprotective of him.
"Lloyd, aren't you going to be late?" Seliel reminded me.
"Oh right." I remembered. "Thanks guys."
I was about to run out the door when Nya stopped me.
"Lloyd, hang on a second." Nya said. Then she licked her hand and ran it through my hair. "There. Now you're ready."
I rolled my eyes and headed outside. I formed my dragon and headed for the restaurant. I was really nervous.
I arrived at the restaurant and met Kira out front. She was wearing a long green dress and a black jacket. She looked amazing.
"Hi." Kira said.
"H-hi." I stuttered.
"I guess I know where Ryder got his stutter from." She giggled.
"O-Oh yeah." I laughed. "You look beautiful tonight."
"Thanks." She smiled. "You look great too."
"Thanks." I said and put my arm out. "Should we go in?"
"Of course."
We linked arms and we walked into the restaurant.
"Table for two please." I told the man at the desk.
"Do you have a reservation Mr. Garmadon?" The man asked me.
'Reservation? Awe shoot! I can't believe I forgot to make a reservation! Way to go Lloyd.'
"Well I uhh..." I stuttered.
"It's under Yost." Kira interrupted.
'Yost?' I thought to myself. 'That name sounds so familiar. Where have I heard that before?'
"Oh I have your table right back here." He said. "Right this way."
The man showed us to our table and we set down. Then he gave us water and our menus and left. I was a little embarrassed that Kira had to make the reservation, but at least we got a table.
"I'm sorry about the reservation, I should've made one." I apologized.
"It's not a problem." She smiled. "I'm the one who asked you out remember?"
"Right." I said.
"Is everything alright?" Kira asked. "You seem a little distant."
"Oh sorry, I think I'm just a little worried about how Ryder's doing." I admitted. "This is my first time away from him since... well you know, and I just have this feeling that something bad is going to happen to him without me there to protect him."
"I'm sure he'll be alright, but if you need to call Nya and check up on him then go right ahead." She insisted.
"Are you sure? I don't want it to ruin our date."
"Of course, I know how important your son is to you."
"Thanks, you're the best." I blushed.
I walked out of the restaurant and took out my phone. I was contemplating whether or not to call and check on Ryder. On one hand, Nya and Jay would call me if there was an emergency, but on the other hand I couldn't shake this feeling that he could be in danger. I took a deep breath and decided not to call her, I just needed to trust Nya and Jay. Ryder is probably safer there he was here anyway.
I was about to walk back in the restaurant when I looked through the window and saw two men dressed in all black clothes and ski masks trying to rob the place. All the costumers were scattered all over the place. I hoped Kira was ok.
I burst into the restaurant and used spinjitsu on the two guys, but after three years of being in bed, I was out of practice and I tripped. One of the guys picked me up by the arm, dangling me off the floor.
"Some ninja you are." One of the thugs taunted.
"Hey! Put him down!" I heard Kira yell as she ran up to them.
"Kira stay back." I told her.
Then the thug that was holding me pushed me to the ground, forcing me to my knees. The other one picked up a knife off of a table and pointed it straight at my chest.
"Try anything, and the green one gets it." The thug with the knife threatened.
Everyone was too scared to move as the thieves emptied the cash register, still pinning me to the ground. I couldn't believe I let this happen, and with the first girl I actually liked too. I looked like a pathetic wimp.
"Keep your hands off him!" Kira yelled.
She ran up and kicked the guy with the knife, making him drop it. It left a really deep cut on my left leg, but my adrenaline was pumping so much I hardly felt it. I then tackled the other guy to the ground and we tied them to a post outside until the police showed up.
After they took the thugs away, the restaurant was closed for the rest of the night. Kira and I were sitting on a bench outside looking at the city lit up in the night. I tried my best to ignore the pain in my leg from where the knife had cut me, and it was easy with Kira beside me.
"Hey we actually make a pretty good team." I smiled.
"Yeah, I guess we do." Kira smiled. Then she noticed the cut on my leg and how much it was bothering me. "That looks bad. Here, let me help."
"No I'm really ok." I lied. Last time she used her powers she almost passed out, so I didn't want that to happen again.
"You're bleeding Lloyd please let me help before it gets any worse." She insisted.
Despite how much I refused, she put her hand on my leg to heal me. Her hand glowed a bright whiteish-blue color and then I almost instantly started feeling better. The cut was almost completely gone.
"There." She said catching her breath. "Is that better?"
"Yeah, it feels alright now. Thanks." I said. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah, healing a small scratch like that is nothing." She shrugged. "Can you walk now?"
"I think so."
Kira helped me off the bench and I was able to stand up fine. Then we decided to take a short walk around the city, since we never really got to the romantic part of the date. We were standing on a bridge in the city and found ourselves looking at the stars.
"I'm sorry this date has been such a disaster, but where a ninja goes, trouble usually follows." I sighed. "I understand if you don't want to..."
"Are you kidding? This is the most fun I've had in years!" Kira exclaimed.
"But I thought that you wanted a nice quiet dinner?" I said.
"Sure that may have been more relaxing, but this was a million times better!"
"It was? I almost died." I laughed.
"Oh right, sorry." She apologized. "Well I guess I just didn't know what it felt like to do the whole ninja thing. It feels so good to help people like that."
"But you work at a hospital, you help people everyday."
"I know, and I love my job, but this was way more fun." She said. "My whole life I just wanted to make a difference, I just never knew the right way to do it."
"Well, you seem pretty skilled at it already." I smiled. "Where did you learn how to fight like that anyway?"
"Well I got bored so I taught myself how." She explained.
"Wow you are awesome! Although your technique could use some work." I teased.
"Says the guy who I just saved from a couple thugs." She snarked.
"In my defense, I'm a little out of practice." I laughed.
"Whatever you say greenie." She gently punched me on the shoulder.
We both smiled blushed and leaned into each other. We looked each other in the eyes and then we kissed. I know this wasn't my first kiss, but this one felt real.
After our date I flew Kira back home on my dragon. She lived in a treehouse she built herself just outside of the city. It was so run down and she seemed so lonely there. I tried to invite her to spend the night on the bounty, but she said she had to work in the morning. So we kissed each other good night and I rode my dragon to Nya's to pick up Ryder.
When I arrived all the kids were napping on the couch so I tried to be really quiet.
"Hey Lloyd." Jay whispered to me. "Here for Ryder?"
"Yeah." I whispered. "Did he behave?"
"Oh yeah, he was fine." Jay smiled. "How did the date go?"
"Well it didn't exactly go as planned, but it ended up being even better." I smiled.
"Well I'm glad you had fun." Jay said. "Let me go get Ryder up."
I nodded and watched as he woke up Ryder. He rubbed his eyes and yawned as Jay helped him up. He was cuddling his dragon plushy as he spotted me. He must've been too tired to say much because he just ran to me and gave me a quick hug before I let him sleep on my back.
"Thanks for watching him Jay." I said. "How much do I owe you?"
"First time's on the house." He winked.
"Are you sure?" I asked. I knew that Jay lost his job so I wanted to do what I could to help them out.
"Lloyd it's ok." He insisted. "We're going to be fine."
"Ok." I said. "Thanks again."
"No problem."
I flew Ryder home on my dragon and got him straight into bed. I can't believe how amazing this date went and I was looking forward to seeing Kira again.
The next morning...
I woke up early because my mom came by to visit me and Ryder. She was in the kitchen making us some pancakes and I told her everything that happened on my date with Kira.
"So you really like this girl ha?" My mom asked.
"Oh yeah, Kira's great." I smiled. "She's smart and adventurous and she can fight. When I'm around her I feel this connection that I never felt with anyone before."
"Sounds to me like my son's in love." My mom smirked.
"I don't know about in love, but I definitely feel something. I can tell she likes me too."
"Of course she does, who wouldn't fall head over heals for my little boy?" My mom ruffled my hair.
"Mom stop it." I laughed.
"Sorry." She giggled. "I'm just so happy for you."
"I appreciate that, but I don't want to rush into anything after what happened to Ryder." I sighed.
"I understand. Take all the time you need."
"Thanks."
As my mother finished making the pancakes, Ryder woke up and met us in the kitchen.
"Good morning Ryd." I said. "How did you sleep?"
"Morning Daddy. I slept good." He stretched and sniffed the smell in the air. "What's that delicious smell?"
"I made breakfast." My mom said.
"Oh good morning Grandma." Ryder set down at the table.
"Good morning Ryder." She smiled as she finished putting the last of the pancakes on a plate. "Are you hungry?"
Ryder nodded and my mother set the plate of pancakes on the table and set down with us. I put a couple on his plate and cut them up so he wouldn't choke. Then I poured syrup on them and added blueberries, just how he liked them.
"Here." I said handing him his plate.
"Thanks Daddy. Thanks Grandma." He smiled as he took a bite. "My favorite."
"No problem Ryder." My mom said.
"So did you have fun at Lily and Jax's house last night?" I asked.
"Yeah, it was fun." He said. "How did your date go?"
"It went great bud." I smiled. "In fact it was perfect."
