The Babysitting Job

Jay's P.O.V.:

Lloyd had just dropped his son off at our house, meaning that Nya had to watch Jax, Lily, Amber, Blake, Allison and Ryder. This was nothing new for us, Nya basically ran a babysitting service and she was so good with kids.

Nya and I love our kids and we wanted more, but I had a low chance of having children in the first place. It was a miracle that Nya got pregnant at all, and we were even more lucky when we found out they were twins. Those two were the best things that ever happened to us and we loved them.

Nya was playing with all the kids and I was talking with Cole and Seliel. Of course I offered to help Nya, but she said she didn't need it.

"So when are you guys heading back?" I asked Cole and Seliel.

"Well my father wants me back there tomorrow, but I don't know if I want to go back." Seliel looked at Allison and the other kids playing with Nya.

"What do you mean?" Cole asked putting his arm around his wife.

"I mean about Allison." She said to him. "When we go back, she'll will be miserable again just like she was before."

"But what about your dad?" I asked.

"I don't know, but maybe we should consider what's best for her." Seliel sighed.

"Are you insisting that we don't go back?" Cole asked.

"I don't know what to do, but I do know that I don't want Allison to be sad all the time when we aren't there for her."

"I don't want that either." Cole agreed. "Relax, I promise when we get back I'll figure out a way to make sure she gets more time with us."

"Thanks." She sighed.

"I think I'll go check on Nya." I excused myself.

I went into the play room and saw Nya playing with the kids. The kids looked happy but Nya looked tired. More tired than usual. I was really worried about her.

"How are you doing honey?" I said peaking my head into the room.

"Oh we're doing fine thanks." Nya said before she yawned. Her voice sounded a little horse.

"You look a little tired, do you want me to make some tea for you?" I offered.

"Sure thanks." She smiled. And then she sneezed. "Achoo!"

"Bless you." All of the kids and me said at once.

"Thanks." She wiped her nose on her sleeve.

"Nya are you feeling ok?" I asked as I walked up to her and placed a hand on her forehead. It didn't feel warm or anything, but Nya looked so tired. "Well it's not a fever but you should really go lie down for a bit. I would hate for the kids to get sick."

"But who's gonna watch them?" Nya asked.

"I'll do it, and I can get Cole and Seliel to help too." I answered.

"Jay it's fine, I'm ok." She said right before she coughed.

"Nya you need to rest!" I told her. "We can handle it."

"Well, ok. I guess I could use a little nap." She yawned and held her head in pain.

"Here, let's get you into bed."

I held her hand and helped her into the bedroom. I made her some tea and then she went right to sleep. I was going to try my best to make sure the kids stayed quiet so that she could get some sleep and get better, but I can't even do that with my own two kids, let alone six. This time I had Jax, Lily, Amber, Blake, Allison AND Ryder. I had the feeling I had bitten off more than I could chew.

I ran to the kitchen where Cole and Seliel were and I explained to them the situation. They agreed to help me with the kids and we ran into check on them all, and they were all running around all doing their own things.

Jax was trying to climb anything he could, Lily kept coloring on the walls and Amber and Blake were fighting as usual. Ryder kept running around pretending his stuffed dragon could fly and Allison was chasing him.

"Hey kids who wants to play a game?" I asked.

All the kids stopped what they were doing and set down on the floor. "This is called the quiet game. Whoever can be quiet the longest wins."

"I lose!" Jax exclaimed.

"Me too." Ryder stood up and started running again.

"Guess the game's over." Lily shrugged.

All the kids got up and started running around again. I didn't know what else to do.

"Hang on, I got it." Cole said running into the kitchen. I followed him.

He took a box of cookies out of the cabinet and set them down on the counter. He set out six plates and poured some cookies on each of them.

"Cookies!" He screamed.

All six of the kids stampeded into the kitchen and set down to eat. It never occurred to anyone that they would all get a massive sugar high from them when they were done. They were all twice as hyper and loud as they were before. We needed them to be quiet so Nya could rest.

"I have an idea." Seliel said. Then she walked into the living room and turned on the first Starfarer movie. "Hey kids, let's watch a movie."

All six of the kids ran in and snuggled in on the couch. All twelve eyes were glued to the tv.

"Good thinking." Cole said to her. "Now let's get this place cleaned up before Nya wakes up."

I started to follow them back into the playroom, but I turned around and saw the smiles on the kids' faces as they watched my birth father on TV. My kids didn't know that was their grandfather they were watching, but I did. It made me think that Nya was right, I should go see him. He deserves to know his grandkids. Maybe I would take them all to the set of his new movie tomorrow if Nya was feeling better, and maybe he wouldn't even recognize me, but he made my kids so happy on TV, why not in person?

"Jay, are you ok?" Cole asked me, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Yeah, I'm fine, just a little overwhelmed at the moment." I said. "I think I'll go check on Nya."

I peaked into the bedroom and Nya was asleep, so I didn't want to bother her. I went back to the playroom and started cleaning up with Cole and Seliel. We were picking up toys and scrubbing the crayon off the walls so Nya wouldn't have to worry about anything when she woke up.

When we were done we were so tired and we all plopped to the floor. I heard the end of the movie coming up, so I went in to check on them. They were all looked like they were about to fall asleep on the couch.

"Wow, Fritz Donagon is so cool." I heard Lily whisper to Jax as she yawned.

"Yeah he's such a cool guy." Jax agreed.

They both yawned and drifted off to sleep. The other kids followed and fell asleep as well.

'Thanks Dad.' I thought to myself and smiled at the kids.

Then I heard a knock at the door. It was Lloyd here to pick up his son. I went and answered the door.

"Hey Lloyd." I whispered to him. "Here for Ryder?"

"Yeah." Lloyd whispered. "Did he behave?"

"Oh yeah, he was fine." I smiled. "How did the date go?"

"Well it didn't exactly go as planned, but it ended up being even better." He smiled.

"Well I'm glad you had fun." I said. "Let me go get Ryder up."

He nodded and watched as I woke up Ryder. He rubbed his eyes and yawned as I helped him up. Ryder was cuddling his dragon plushy as he spotted Lloyd. He must've been too tired to say much because he just ran to Lloyd and gave him a quick hug before he let him sleep on his back. It was so cute!

"Thanks for watching him Jay." Lloyd said. "How much do I owe you?"

"First time's on the house." I winked.

"Are you sure?" He asked. I take it he found out I was out of a job.

"Lloyd it's ok." I insisted. "We're going to be fine."

"Ok." He said. "Thanks again."

"No problem."

Then he formed his dragon and left with Ryder. Then I went back with Seliel and Cole, who were packing up their stuff and getting ready to leave.

"Well it's late so we better get going." Seliel said to me. "Tell Nya we said get well soon."

"Will do. I hope you guys work everything out." I said.

"I'll go get the kids." Seliel said as she headed for the couch.

"Oh right, I almost forgot." Cole took a piece of paper out his pocket.

It was a flyer for a job opening. It read 'Starfarrer XIII: Revenge of the Imperial Sledge. Equipment manager needed.' I had no idea what to say.

"Where did you get this?" I asked him.

"Well my cousin knows this guy, who knows this girl, who knows a girl who knows a guy and this guy knows a girl who's a makeup artist on the set." Cole explained. "He found out about the job opening and I thought I'd tell you about it. Working on a Starfarrer movie seems like something you would be interested in right?"

"Y-Yeah, right." I put on a fake smile. "Thanks for telling me about this."

"No problem buddy." He smiled

I smiled and I gave him a hug. I didn't know if I was going to take the job or not, but it would definitely help out my family, and that was more important to me than keeping myself away from my father.

Cole and Seliel said their goodbyes and paid for the babysitting. I was insisting that they keep it because I they helped out so much, but they gave me the money anyway. Then I loaded Amber, Blake and Allison in the back of the Earth Driller. Then they left for Kai's. Then I picked up my twins off the couch and tucked them into bed, giving them both a kiss on their foreheads.

Afterwards I went back into the kitchen and saw Nya sitting at the table. She still looked tired, but she seemed a lot better than before.

"Hey honey, how are you feeling?" I asked.

"Better, I think the last few days just caught up with me." She yawned. "Did the kids give you any trouble?"

"Everything went fine." I assured her. "Don't worry."

"Thank you for doing that." She smiled. "That was really sweet of you."

"Anytime." I blew her a kiss. "But please don't be afraid to tell me if you need a break next time so I can help you ok?"

"Ok I promise." Then she looked around. "Did everyone leave?"

"Yeah, all the kids were asleep when Lloyd showed up for Ryder and then Cole and Seliel left with the rest of them after that so I put the kids in bed."

"You got all of them to sleep?" She sounded impressed. "How did you do that?!"

"I guess I picked it up after watching you for so long." I winked and she giggled. Her throat still sounded a little scratchy, so I poured her and myself a glass of orange juice.

"Thanks." Nya smiled and took a sip. "You look tired."

"Oh I am, I had no idea how this babysitting thing was. No wonder you needed a break."

"So how's the job search coming?" She asked me.

"Well remember how you were saying that we should talk to my dad?"

"Yeah."

"Well Cole was telling me that my the new Starfarrer movie has an opening for an equipment manager." I sighed.

"Well you'd definitely be good at that, but are you sure you're comfortable working with your father?" She asked.

"Maybe it won't be so bad, he'll be on screen and I'll be behind the scenes. Plus he probably won't even recognize me anyway."

"I guess that's true." Nya said.

"And it's filming in downtown Ninjago City so it wouldn't be too far away from home." I added.

"Well it's up to you Jay." She said. "Whatever you decide, I'll support you."

"Thanks." I smiled.

I helped Nya back into bed and I slept on the couch, because I knew it would worse if I got sick too and I didn't want to risk it. I tried to sleep but all I could think about was the job opening. This was the right thing to do for my family, but was it worth meeting my father? I guess we're going to find out.
