Searching for the Cure: Part Three
Lloyd's P.O.V.:
My dad had barged into the treehouse and he and Kira looked at each other. I had to make sure he didn't hurt her.
"Dad, this is Kira." I said awkwardly. "Kira this is my father."
"Oh so you're the wife I've heard so much about." He stared at her.
"Dad, Kira is my second wife. She's not the one who tried to kill me and Ryder." I reminded him, making sure that there was no misunderstandings.
"I know that." My dad said. "Thank you for saving him and my grandson."
"Of course." Kira smiled.
"Ow!" I yelled. My shoulder really hurt again.
"Are you absolutely sure you don't want me to heal your shoulder?" Kira asked me for the tenth time.
"No, you need to save your strength." I refused, even though it really hurt.
"You are a healing master are you not?" My father asked her.
"Yes but I can't use my powers as much when I'm..." She stopped and covered her mouth. She didn't know that I had accidentally told him about the baby.
"Kira it's ok. He knows." I frowned.
"You told him?!" She yelled angrily.
"I'm sorry, it just slipped out." I apologized. "But you have no reason not to trust him, he saved my life. If it wasn't for him I'd literally be sleeping with the fishes right now."
"Ok." She reluctantly calmed down. "I guess we do owe him for saving your life."
"Thank you." I said to her.
"What else have you told him?" She whispered to me.
"He knows about Ryder and what happened to him and me." I whispered back. "He also knows you have healing powers."
"Ok I trust you." Kira nodded to me.
"Not that I wish to ruin the moment, but we do have to get you to the hospital Lloyd." My father reminded us.
"Oh right we have to go." I remembered.
I stood up and started coughing bad and my ribs were hurting again. My fever had been getting worse by the hour. Kira helped me sit back down and felt my forehead.
"Lloyd you're burning up." She told me. "We don't have much time."
"Kira I'm... I'm..."
I was about to lie and tell her I was fine, but then I remembered the last time I told her I was fine.
**********Flashback**********
She grabbed my hands and pulled me out of bed against my will. I fell onto the floor and didn't want to get up. I felt like I didn't deserve to stand up.
"What did you do that for?" I exclaimed.
"I'm taking you to a therapist." Kira said.
"I don't need one, I don't have a problem." I stated.
"That's exactly what someone who needs a therapist would say." Kira said. "Come on, it'll be good for you."
"Kira I'm not going to see a therapist." I stated again. "I'm fine."
"It'll be fine, my patients at the hospital that struggle with depression always feel better after going."
"I told you I'm fine, I don't need a therapist." I stated again.
"Please? You're so depressed all the time and I don't want to see you like that."
"I'm not depressed all the time, I'm just mad at myself."
"That right there. That's exactly what I'm talking about."
"I TOLD YOU I'M FINE!" I screamed in her face.
I threw a punch and thankfully she ducked out of the way. I had no idea what I just did. Why did I almost do that to the women I love? I promised I would never hurt her, I promised I would protect her, and I made the same promise to Ryder. If I did that to my son, he would never forgive me. I would never forgive myself. I have to get out of here.
******End of Flashback******
"Lloyd? Lloyd snap out of it!" Kira yelled waving her hands in front of my face.
I took a few deep breaths and shook my head. Which was a bad idea because it made me dizzy and my head hurt.
"Are you alright?" Kira asked.
"Kira, I don't want to lie to you again." I grabbed her hand in mine. "I'm not fine. I don't know what's wrong with me. I almost hurt you and now I'm just as bad as she was and if Ryder sees me like that too, he wouldn't trust me again. I don't think I would be able to handle that."
"Lloyd you are nothing like Harumi." Kira looked me in the eyes. "I know that, Ryder knows that, and all your friends know that. Plus you heard Ryder on the phone, he can't wait to see you and we wouldn't want him to be disappointed."
"I guess you're right." I sighed.
"What's your plan?" Kira asked my father.
"We can take my dragon." He suggested.
"That'll draw too much attention." I said. "The people of Ninjago haven't seen you in years. They don't know you've changed."
"That's a good point, but I don't think there's any other way." Kira frowned. "We'll just have to fly now and explain later."
"Works for me." My dad said.
"Alright but go slow." I told him. "I don't want anything to happen to the baby."
"I'll be careful." My father agreed.
With that he formed his dragon and Kira helped me onto it. It was a giant three headed dragon with black and dark purple scales. There was no way we wouldn't get noticed on the trip to the hospital.
Luckily Kira had spent most of her life going from the treehouse to work so she knew the best way to get there without going through downtown. We were still seen by a few people and gave a few of them a scare, but it's better than the whole town spotting us. Plus it didn't help that we had to go slow so Kira wouldn't get nauseous and so my shoulder wouldn't get worse.
Once we finally made it to the hospital, Kira took us through the staff entrance so we could get there easier and so no one saw my father. She led us to a small private hospital room where Zane and Pixal were waiting for us. They looked surprised to see my father and how awful I looked.
"Lloyd?" Zane looked at me. "What happened to you?"
"And what is Garmadon doing here?" Pixal looked shocked.
"Relax, he's here to help us." I said reassuringly. "I wouldn't have gotten here without him."
"We have the cure for you, but we have to give it to you by using an IV." Zane explained.
"If it means I won't go crazy around Ryder, then let's do it." I said.
"Ok, but I should warn you this is risky." Zane warned. "The extract should theoretically cancel out the venom in your system, but we have no actual way of knowing if this is going to work."
"Well it has to!" I snarled. "I can't put my kids in danger and I don't want them to grow up without me."
"Lloyd take it easy. You have a better chance of this working if you keep your stress level down." Kira explained.
"She is correct." Pixal nodded.
"I'm sorry." I frowned and took a deep breath. "I guess I'm just worried that I'm gonna turn into..."
"Me?" My Dad interrupted.
"No." I sighed. "I-I don't want to turn into Har..."
"Lloyd, you're overthinking this." Kira calmed me down. "You are nothing like her and you never will be. You have to believe that."
"Could it be fatal?" I asked Zane.
"I don't think so, but there is not enough time to test it before the venom takes full effect." Zane said. "By my calculations the great devourer's venom is accelerating at much faster rate than I thought. We may only have a few hours until he becomes a full blooded Oni."
"Then what are you waiting for?" I grew impatient. "Let's get to it."
"Lloyd are you sure you wanna do this?" Kira looked at me.
"Kira, if this doesn't work, I want you to protect Ryder and our future son or daughter." I looked at her and took her hands. "Also no matter what happens, I will always love you."
"I love you too." Kira kissed me. "I'll take good care of them."
"Thank you." I smiled.
I got in the bed and Kira hooked me up to the IV. She held my hand as I went under in a deep sleep.
Kira's P.O.V.:
I held Lloyd's hand as he went under. Being a nurse I knew that with that much venom in his body that there was a chance he wouldn't wake up. The fact that he was an Oni helped to increase his chances of survival, but it was still very dangerous.
"He should be under for a few hours." Zane told us all.
"Are you sure this is going to work?" Garmadon asked.
"In theory the extract from the staffs' venom should cancel out the great devourer's." He replied.
"I hope you got just the right amount of it Zane." I said. "Any more could..."
"I am a Nindroid, I do not make errors." Zane assured me.
While I was waiting for Lloyd to wake up, Garmadon explained to me what had happened in the treehouse. He told me how Lloyd had almost drowned in the river and that he hurt his shoulder when he fell out of the treehouse.
I remember the things Lloyd told me about his father. I honestly thought I'd never get to meet him, and for the longest time I hoped I wouldn't have to after what he did to Lloyd. Now that I met him he wasn't that bad. Of course he seemed a bit closed off, but that was understandable considering he'd been all by himself for years.
After a few hours I decided to change Lloyd's bandages and try to use my powers to heal his shoulder and his ribs, because he'd never let me do it while he was awake. I know he just wants what's best for me and the baby, but I couldn't bare to see him hurt like that.
"Kira what are you doing?" Zane asked me.
"I don't want him to be in pain when he wakes up." I told him. "He's not going to let me heal him otherwise."
"But will you not get tired?" Pixal asked.
"I'll be fine, I'm just going to heal him a little." I said.
I put my hands near his shoulder and started to use my powers. I could only hold it for a few minutes before I got too exhausted. I nearly fell backwards until Pixal caught me. She helped me into the chair and I had to catch my breath.
"Thank you Pixal." I said catching my breath.
"Are you ok?" Zane asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just need a second." I told him.
"Kira you really shouldn't be using your powers right now." Zane warned. "It could be dangerous to you and the baby."
"I know. I'm sorry but I needed to help him." I frowned.
"He'll be ok." Pixal said. "Do not worry."
"I wish I could stop worrying, but it's all I can think about." I sighed.
"Is she ok?" Garmadon asked Zane.
I was a bit surprised he was so concerned about me. Or maybe he was concerned about his future grandson or granddaughter.
"Yes they are both unharmed." Zane answered checking on me with his scanner.
"Good." Garmadon said. "Better not try that again."
"I won't." I sighed.
Five hours later...
It took him hours, but Lloyd finally started to wake up. I ran to his bedside and watched as he slowly opened his eyes.
"K-Kira?" He said weakly.
"Yes Lloyd, I'm right here." I held his hand. "How do you feel?"
"Better than I've felt in a long time." He smiled as I helped him sit up.
"Do you think you're ready to see Ryder again?" I asked.
"Absolutely." He smiled.
"Good, because he and your mom are in the waiting room right now." I smiled.
"What?" He questioned.
I opened the door and Ryder came bursting into the room and ran into Lloyd with a huge smile on his face. Lloyd smiled too and pulled his son into a big hug. I was so glad to have my family back together again.
"Ryder!" Lloyd exclaimed hugging him. "I'm so sorry I left like that. I promise I'm never leaving you again."
"I missed you Daddy." Ryder kept hugging Lloyd.
"I missed you too bud." I saw tears of joy in his eyes. "I love you son."
"I love you too Daddy." He smiled.
"Glad to see you again son." Misako walked into the room smiling.
"Hi Mom." Lloyd gave her a hug.
"Daddy, what happened to your arm?" Ryder looked at the sling on Lloyd's arm.
"He just got a little roughed up during his mission." I looked at Lloyd and winked. "That's all."
"Right the mission." Lloyd played along. "Don't worry bud, I'll be alright."
"You can still be my Daddy right?" Ryder asked with a frown.
"Of course son, I'll always be your daddy." He smiled. "And that's one promise I know I can keep."
"Good because I don't want you to go away again." Ryder leaned into him.
"Don't worry Ryd, I'm not going anywhere." He smiled and hugged him.
"Daddy can I ask you a question?" Ryder noticed Garmadon standing in the corner. "Why does that guy have four arms?"
"Well that's your grandfather." Lloyd said awkwardly. "He may look mean and scary, but he won't hurt you."
"We'll explain everything later." I said to Ryder. "For now let's just be happy your father's ok."
"Dad." He looked at his father. "Thank you. For everything."
"No problem." He smiled. "Stay safe."
"Thank you for saving my daddy." Ryder told Garmadon.
"You're very welcome grandson." Garmadon smiled.
With that we all went home. I was so happy to have Lloyd back home. Misako insisted on spending the night here to take care of Lloyd, so we let his dad stay in my old treehouse for a while so there wouldn't be any conflict between them. They didn't say two words to each other at the hospital earlier so I didn't want that tension around Lloyd and Ryder.
Lloyd and I were in the living room and I was running some tests to make sure that the cure had worked entirely. Ryder had already went to bed but not before Lloyd read him his favorite book, "Jack the Rabbit."
"Good news." I finished checking him out. "That cure worked perfectly and there's none of that venom left in your system."
"So I'm all done?" He asked.
"Almost, I want to look at that shoulder and your ribs." I said.
"Fine but don't use your powers. I don't want anything to happen to our baby girl or boy." He said as he gently put his hand on my stomach.
"Ok no powers. I promise." I said.
"Can I get that in writing?" Lloyd laughed.
I rolled my eyes and started to examine his shoulder.
"How has it been feeling?" I asked.
"My shoulder actually hasn't been that bad since I woke up." He said. "I take it you had something to do with that."
"Sorry, I didn't want you to wake up in pain." I apologized.
"It's ok. Don't worry about it."
"Do you think you can move it now?" I asked getting us back on track.
"Let me see."
Lloyd tried to move his shoulder and he could a little, but I could tell he was hurting him.
"Alright, it seems better than before but you better keep it still for a few more days and give it time to reset." I told him. "Just remember to ice it twice a day and don't, I repeat don't do anything too strenuous this time."
"Yes Ma'am. Whatever you say boss." He chuckled.
"You didn't seem to have any trouble walking around the house or at the hospital earlier so if your ribs start hurting again let me know, but everything else looks good."
"Thanks Kira, I'm sorry I keep getting myself into trouble." He frowned. "I'll try to be more careful."
"Thank you." I smiled.
"How is he doing Kira?" Misako walked in holding a a bowl of soup she made for Lloyd.
"He'll be just fine. No more of that nasty venom is anywhere to be found." I told her.
"Thank goodness." She smiled and put her arms around Lloyd. "I'm so happy to have you back! Don't ever scare me like that again!"
"I'm sorry for leaving like I did." He frowned. "I promise that won't happen again."
Misako handed him the soup. Lloyd thanked her and started eating it. Once he was done we iced his shoulder one more time and got him into bed. I was just so happy to have my family back together.
