Rescuing Ryder

I know a lot of you still ship Lloyd and Kira, so I made her the elemental master of healing in this story. You're welcome Llira shippers.

Oh and you may cry. I'm sorry. Enjoy the chapter! 😉🎦🐉

Lloyd's P.O.V.:

Me and my wife Harumi were putting our two year old son to bed. You might find this shocking to learn I was married to Harumi, but what happened back there wasn't her fault. The masks corrupted her and caused her to do all of those horrible things to me.

She wanted my help to turn over a new leaf and I knew where she was coming from. I used to be evil once too, it didn't compare to the amount of damage she did, but if the ninja hadn't taken me in, I wouldn't be here.

Of course the others never talked to me anymore since Rumi and I got married. They never even showed up to my wedding. They didn't know I had a son either.

Once my son was asleep, then me and Harumi went to sleep. I was happy we had our happy little boy. We had named him Ryder Wu Garmadon and we loved him.

The next morning...

I woke up and everything was quiet and Harumi was gone. It felt weird. I got out of bed and ran into my son's room, but when I looked in the crib Ryder was gone.

I turned to the corner of the room by the window. Harumi was standing there, holding Ryder in one hand and a bomb in the other.  Ryder was pretty much unconscious.

"Thanks for the child Lloyd." She smiled evilly. "I'd love to stick around but now I have to go."

"Harumi, don't!" I screamed.

"Too late."

She took the baby and headed out the window and threw the bomb in the monastery blowing it to pieces. Then I blacked out.

Three years later...

"Ryder!" I screamed and set up. I was in the hospital with Nya and my mother.

"Lloyd you're ok!" My mom said as she hugged me.

"W... What happened?" I asked.
"How long have I been out?"

"Three years." Nya said.

"Three years? Where's Ryder?"

"Who's Ryder?" Nya asked.

"My son, the last thing I remember is Harumi taking my son and setting off an explosive device in the monastery before escaping." I explained. "I have to find her. I have to save him."

"You don't have a son." Nya said.

"Yes I do, I never told you about him because you all never trusted her and wouldn't talk to me after we got married." I snarked.

"You never told me." My mom said.

"Sorry, but I didn't want you to be mad." I said.

"I'm not." She smiled.

"Wait how did I survive that without any injuries?" I wondered.

"You broke, sprained and/or burned pretty much every part of your body, but lucky for you, there's a nurse that works here." Nya explained. "Her name is Kira and she's the elemental master of healing. She healed all your injuries but as hard she tried she couldn't get you to wake up so you've basically in a coma for the last 3 years."

"Well tell her I said thanks, but I got a son to save." I said as I set up on the bed.

I got out of bed and tried to stand up but I couldn't find my balance. My mom and Nya grabbed me by the shoulders and helped me stand.

"Take it easy son, you've been in that bed for 3 years. You gotta give it time." My mom said.

"Yeah she's right." Nya agreed.

"But I don't even know if my son's alive." I told them. "I have to find him."

"Then we're gonna help you." Nya smiled.

"Of course we will." My mom smiled.

"Ok." I said. "Let's go get my son back."

Narrator's P.O.V.:

Harumi was at the Oni temple on the south side of Prime Evils Eye. She was there because her son, Ryder, was part Oni and could give her access to any of the functions in the temple as he had been doing for three years.

Ryder didn't want to help his mother take over the world. Every time he would try to resist, his mother would hit him until he gave in. He knew what he was doing was wrong, but he didn't have a choice.

According to his mother, she saved him from his father when he was a baby because he was ten times worse than she was. Ryder didn't know if he could trust her or not, but he was only five. He had no where else to go, and if his mom was right, he was safer here anyway.

"Ryder, come unlock this door for me." Harumi demanded.

"Y-yes ma'am." Ryder stuttered.

Ryder tried to open the door and it wouldn't budge. He looked back at his mom.

"It won't budge." He told her.

"Yes it will, try harder." She demanded.

"I tried as hard as I could, it won't open." Ryder yelled.

Harumi kicked him in the knee and knocked him on the ground. He was struggling to get up but he couldn't. This wasn't the first time his mother had done that to him.

"Oh you're fine, get up." Harumi had her hands on her hips.

"I-I can't." He struggled to stand up.

"Yes you can, you just don't want to." His mother scowled.

"That too." Ryder mumbled to himself.

"What was that?" Harumi took out her sword.

"N-Nothing Mother." Ryder said as he forced himself to his feet. He still looked tired and he was in pain.

"That's better." Harumi said. "Now let's keep moving."

"Yes m-ma'am." He stuttered.

Lloyd's P.O.V.:

We were on Nya's dragon on the way to Prime Evils Eye. We knew that there was an Oni temple there and that Harumi was probably trying to get my son to explore it for her, since he was an Oni too.

On the flight over there, Nya caught me up on everything that had happened while I was in recovery. Kai and Skylor had a little girl named Amber who was a year older than Ryder would be now, and they had a young three year old named Blake. Cole and Seliel also had a five year old girl named Allison and he had moved to Nom to be with them both. Jay and Nya had 4 year old twins, Lily and Jax and Pixal and Zane had built a nindroid son named Alex just a few weeks ago. It was nice to hear that my friends were doing ok.

We approached the temple and I lead them inside. When we got inside I saw Harumi and we ducked behind a rock. I saw a young boy with white hair and green eyes following her around. That had to be Ryder. He looked weak and he could barely stand up. I was really worried about him, but at the same time I was relieved he was alive after all that time.

"Is that him?" Nya whispered to me.

"It has to be." I answered.

"He looks like he's been through a lot." My mom pointed out.

"And it's all my fault." I sighed.

"It's ok Lloyd, we're gonna get him back." Nya said.

My legs were feeling better so we made a plan. My mother stepped out without being seen and called the police. Then Nya jumped out and threw herself on top of Harumi. She hit her in the head and knocked her out cold.

Ryder screamed and backed away. He wasn't sure what was going on so I put on my hood and went over to him.

"Hey kid." I said to him.

"W-who are you?" He stuttered.

"Hey, it's ok." I knelt down in front of him. "I'm one of the good guys. We're gonna get you out of here. What's your name?"

"R-Ryder." He stuttered.

"Ok Ryder, we're here to help you." I assured him. "Are you ok?"

"I-I don't know. Everything hurts." He whined.

"Ok be careful, don't move." I told him.

I carefully picked him up and he groaned in pain. His injuries were obviously worse than he let on. I guess for the first time in his life he felt safe and he was so relieved that he passed out in my arms.

The police showed up and took Harumi to prison. Then Nya, my mom and I went back to the hospital with Ryder on Nya's dragon. On the way there, I discovered how hurt he really was. He had bruises and scratches all over him, obviously a few broken bones in his left arm and right rib, a sprained ankle, and who knows what else. I would never forgive myself for letting this happen to him.

We arrived at the hospital and we ran inside. My son was breathing, but barely and his pulse was starting to slow down. I had to do something and fast.

"Help my son, please he's hurt." I told the lady at the check in desk.

"I can help him." I heard another lady say as she was walking in the room. She seemed to be a nurse and she had long brown hair and blue eyes with a green bandana in her hair.

"Kira!" Nya and my mom exclaimed.

"Who are you?" I asked her.

"She's the girl that saved your life." My mom explained.

"Set him down." Kira said.

I set Ryder down in a chair in the waiting room. Kira put her hand on his forehead and he started to glow a blueish-white color. Once she was done, Ryder woke up and he still looked tired and scared.

"Ryder are you ok?" I asked him.

"H-How do you know my name?" He said confused. He didn't recognize me without my mask on.

"Because I'm the one who named you." I smiled.

"What do you mean?" He asked.

"It's all gonna be ok now son." I hugged him.

He realized that I was his father and he hugged me back. Then I ran to Kira as I saw she was about to pass out.

"Are you ok?" I asked as Nya and I helped her up.

"Yeah, it just takes a lot out of me to heal that many injuries at once." Kira replied as we set her down in a chair. "I should be alright in a few minutes."

"Thank you so much. I could kiss you!" I exclaimed.

"Oh I uh..." she said awkwardly while blushing a bit.

"Oh I'm sorry it's just he's been through a lot lately." I looked at Ryder.

"It's ok." She smiled. "It's good to see you back on your feet."

"It's good to be back." I said. "Thank you so much, but I should really get Ryder home."

"Of course. Make sure he gets plenty of rest and that you call me in a week to let me know how you both are doing." Kira said.

"I do... I mean uh... will do, thank you." I stuttered. Then I turned back to Ryder. "Come on son, let's go home."

I took him back to the bounty, because the monastery wasn't rebuilt yet, and got him settled in. He was a little tense at first, but I don't blame him for that. He lived with Harumi after all.

"Hey bud." I said as I walked in the room with a slice of pizza. "I thought you might be hungry. Do you like pizza?"

"What's pizza?" He asked.

"It's good try it." I said.

"I don't have to do anything to earn it?" He asked.

"Of course not." I said sitting next to him on his bed.

"Can I ask you something?" He said.

"Of course, you can ask me anything you want."

"So, if you're my father why did you leave me with my mother?" He asked.

I sighed and ended up telling him everything. How Harumi and I met, how she used me, how she tricked me twice, and how she took him.

"So do you regret it?" He looked at me.

"Regret what?" I asked.

"Regret trusting her the second time."

"No, if I hadn't trusted her, I never would've had you."

"Thank you sir." He said to me.

"You know you can call me Dad right?"

"I know it's just... a lot to take in." He said.

"I understand, you don't have to do anything until you're ready." Then I heard his tummy growling. "Are you sure you don't want to eat?"

"That does smell good." He pointed to the pizza.

"Here, try it." I said handing it to him.

He set the plate on his lap and picked up the slice and began to eat it. As soon as he took a bite his eyes lit up and he started eating faster. I guess that meant he liked it.

"Do you want some more." I asked.

"Yes please." He answered.

"Ok come on."

I took his hand and led him to the dining room where there was a big box of pizza on the table. He ate almost every piece of it. I guess he was starving.

"You know you're pretty smart for a five year old." I told him.

"Well you had to grow up pretty fast if you're mom was an evil villain." He said with his mouth full.

"I get that." I said. "I'm sorry I couldn't go after you sooner."

"It's ok Dad." He said. "You're here now."

"I promise I'll never let anything happen to you." I gave him a hug. "What did she do to you?"

"She tried to get me to do a lot of things in that temple that she wasn't able to do herself. She called me an Oni or something I don't know. Anyway, she said I was the key to some big plan."

"What big plan?" I asked.

"I don't know, one time I asked about it and she... well let's just say I ended up with a broken arm. I never asked her again after that." He said.

"No kid should have to go through that." I said. "Why didn't you run away?"

"She told me you were a worse villain than she was, but now I see that was just another lie so I wouldn't try to find you." He sighed.

"But what's important is that you didn't give up."

"She wouldn't let me. I didn't want to help her but every time I tried to refuse she..." He stopped.

"You don't have to say it." I frowned. "We cannot change the past, but we can effect the future."

"You're not going to beat me up too are you?"

Ryder flinched like he was preparing for me to hit him. I would never do that to my son, and I wish I didn't believe what he was telling me about how Harumi treated him, but I did. I made a huge mistake trusting her but in a way I don't regret anything. If I never would've trusted her again, than Ryder would've never been born, I just wished Harumi wanted to change like I did.

"Of course not. I would never do that, you're my son." I told him.

"C-Can I... hug you please?" He asked me nervously.

"You don't have to ask, of course you can."

He ran into my arms and hugged me so tight. I felt proud of my son for putting up with Harumi for so long, but I also felt so bad he had to go through that.

I remember how my father hurt me, but he wasn't himself. But with Harumi it was different, she was being herself and I'm an idiot for not seeing that.

"You look like you could use some rest buddy." I pointed out. "Why don't you go take a nap."

"Ok. Thanks Dad." He gave me one more hug and yawned. Then he headed to his room.

I was glad Ryder was safe now, and I was gonna do everything in my power to protect him. Then my phone started to ring, I didn't recognize the number so I answered it.

"Hello?" I said.

"Hey is this Lloyd Garmadon?" A women's voice came through the phone.

"Yes." I answered. "Who is this?"

"This is Kira from the hospital, I was just calling to check on you and Ryder." She said.

"Oh yeah we're doing ok, thank you." I said. "I'm actually really glad you called."

"You are?" Kira said.

"Yeah, I wanted to say how thankful I am about you saving my son earlier." I said.

"Of course, I'm always happy to help." She said. "If you have any questions or you notice anything wrong with you or Ryder just give me a call."

"Well my son's been through a traumatic experience lately, Maybe you could give me some advice on how to deal with that?"

"That's a bit out of my element, but I'll try." She said.

She said that the best thing I could do for him, is let him know that he has a safe place where he can go and let him know that there's someone he can trust and talk to. I thought that advice was great. I eventually started talking to her about other things and she and I became pretty good friends.

I wanted to do something to thank her for saving my son's life, and mine, but I didn't know how to do that. I'm not the best at doing stuff like this, so I decided to text Nya:

————{{{Lloyd's Phone}}}————

Lloyd: Hey Nya.

Nya: Hey Lloyd.
How are you and
Ryder holding up?

L: I'm feeling fine and Ryder seems to be settling in ok. I
actually wanted your advice
on something.

N: What is it?

L: You know that
girl Kira right?

N: Yeah. She's made
friends with all of us
during your recovery.

L: Well I wanted to do
something nice for her
to thank her for saving
us, but I don't know
where to start.

N: Does someone
have a crush? 😏

L: NO! not after what
happened with Harumi!

N: Oh right, sorry.

L: It's ok, it's in the past now.
I just feel like I should do
something special to thank
her for going through all
that trouble just for us.

N: Aww That's really
sweet of you Lloyd.

L: Yeah, I don't know
what girls like though.

N: So am I helping you
do something to say
thanks, or am I helping
you plan a date?

L: IT IS NOT A DATE! 😠

N: Call it what you will. 😏

L: Fine, if you won't help
me I'll just ask Kai.

N: No way! This is my
thing! Look, if you want
it to be special for her,
gotta know what she
wants.

L: Well you've known her
a long time, what is she
like?

N: Well, I know
she's single. 😉

L: Hey! I told you I don't
want this to be a date.

N: Ok, what about
a surprise party?

L: Yes! That's perfect! Then
I can invite everyone and
then it won't look like a
date! Thanks so much Nya!

N: No problem. If
you need any help
let me know.

L: Of course. I'm gonna
need your help.

N: Ok, I'll tell the
others and we'll be
there in the morning.

L: Oh great! I can't wait
to see them all again
and meet all their kids.

N: Yeah, they were all
relieved to hear you
were back.

L: Thanks, I owe you one.

N: Rest up Lloyd,
you need to save
your strength.

L: You're right. See
you tomorrow.

N: Bye.

As soon as I put away my phone and heard Ryder screaming from his bedroom. I ran in to see what was wrong.

"Ryder?" I yelled barging into his room. "What's wrong? Are you ok?"

"S-she was there. I-in my head, she was trying to h-hurt me again." I saw tears in his eyes. I set down next to him.

"Ryder it's ok, just breath." I comforted him. "It was only a dream, she can't hurt you anymore."

"W-when she saw me cry, she just made it worse." He stuttered. "She made my life a living nightmare."

"You're a very brave little boy." I told him. "Look at it this way, if you can survive that, you can do anything. There's nothing you have to fear anymore."

"Really? You think I'm brave?" He questioned.

"Of course you are." I smiled. "I wish I was brave like that at your age."

"Thanks dad." He hugged me. "I feel better now."

"I'm glad I could help." I smiled. "I'll stay with you until you fall asleep ok?"

"Ok." He agreed.

"Do you wanna hear a story?" I asked.

"No one's ever told me a story before." Ryder said. "Is it scary?"

"Don't worry, I think you're gonna like this one." I winked.

I looked around the shelves of the bounty and found the storybook I was looking for. I read Ryder the story.

"...and that is why Jack the rabbit never trusts a snake." I finished.

"Wow that was a great story Dad." Ryder smiled right before he yawned.

"I remember your great uncle Wu reading that to me when I was a boy." I said. "That's your middle name you know? Wu."

"I never knew that. I like it." He said yawning.

"Alright son, you need your rest. You've had a long day." I said tucking him into bed. "Good night son, I love you."

"I love you too Dad." He smiled and quickly drifted off to sleep.

It was at that point I realized that I had saved my son from going through a lot of pain and suffering and now I could give him the life he deserves. A life where he could be happy and well cared for.

I kept my promise and slept by him the whole night in the chair by his bedside. I was so happy that my son had a reason to believe again.
